Departed in May from the nebula of synthesizers, passed through the prepared piano and a symphony orchestra, and after immersion in the depths of the minimal and liquid pieces of the most recent UNDERWATER, we have reached the fifth and last volume of the One Man Sessions by Massimo Martellotta. JUST COOKING is a collection of grooves cooked in total freedom by Martellotta, in tribute to two great passions of Italy, music and cuisine, for an association of the most classic and well-chosen of all time: the one between composing music and cooking a plate. Let's move from the Italian sound groove of "Carbonara" with which the album opens, to the "Spicey Kudu" acrobat; from the hypnotic minimalism of "Hummer milkshake" to the different funk / jazz declinations: the one enriched by the clapping of "Big Burger", the spatial one of "Midnight snack" or à la carte of "Foie gras", the psych of "Pasticciotto" and "Zighinì". A record of pure instinct, in which once again we try our hand with all the tools, which intersect like the ingredients in the hands of a chef; aMedeski Martin and Woodin one person, winking at the sunniest episodes of theBudos BandandHeliocentrics, withMaestro Umilianialways in mind. After 4 chapters of increasing intensity of an often introspective journey, "JUST COOKING" arrives as a closing after-party, informal, but rich and without brakes, in which we find many elements of that Italian funk that has brought itsCalibro 35, here however turned into barbecue sauce. Between afrobeat cues, library music and creative cuisine from last-minute guests, "JUST COOKING" closes the circle.
