Release:2012 / US – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
You've waded through the thousands of MC5 live recordings and outtakes, retread and re-released every Zenta New Year with different artwork, different names but the same old audio. Are you looking for something new to quench your high-energy Detroit rock and roll thirst? Try this on for size. Rumored to be the original demo reel JOHN SINCLAIR mailed off to Elektra Records back in 1968, this collection of live material is 100% unheard since then! Hard to imagine why as these explosive renditions hold up to the best of the 5's catalog. If ripping versions of "Borderline" and "Come Together" aren't enough, also included are THREE songs NEVER heard of before from the band. "Softly in Love" is an original that starts softly and slowly builds to a droning eruption while "What's a Matter Baby" sizzles along like John Lee Hooker's original and while "Slow Down" trumps the Beatles version tenfold. Once these are gone...they gone.

The “Fresh Cream Deluxe Edition” is a collector’s dream and essential for every Cream fan! This limited-edition set includes 6x180-gram heavyweight black LPs housed in a rigid slipcase. The release also includes a 64-page perfect bound LP sized book and download code. New sleeve notes edited by Rolling Stone writer David Fricke.“Fresh Cream” is the debut studio album by Cream released in 1966. It was the first LP release of producer Robert Stigwood's new "Independent" Reaction Records label, released in the United Kingdom as both a mono and stereo version December 1966, the same time as the single release of "I Feel Free". The album was released a month later, in January 1967, in the United States by Atco Records in both mono and stereo versions. Laid down at the height of the UK blues boom, Fresh Cream covers the kind of territory you might expect from three of the most respected players on the scene at the time. With Clapton fresh just from his time with John Mayall, Ginger Baker leaving behind the R'n'B backwaters of Graham Bond Organisation, and a woefully under-employed Jack Bruce hightailing it from the increasingly pop-leaning Manfred Mann, the electric blues was their natural turf.Highlights include the racing harmonica work-out, and the call and response excitements on Muddy Waters’ “Rollin’ and Tumblin’”, a spine-tingled vocal on the Willie Dixon classic, “Spoonful”, as well as the self-penned “Sleepy Time Time” which gives Clapton a free hand to wake up all and sundry. The traditional standard, "Cat’s Squirrel" is given a rousing treatment, showing how well these players meshed.Albums contained:LP 1: FRESH CREAM Mono Album (Reaction 593001)LP 2: Session recording - mono mix, The Mono Singles and The Mono French EPsLP 3: FRESH CREAM Stereo AlbumLP 4: Session recordings - stereo mixes and new stereo mixes:LP 5: FRESH CREAM Early versions, outtakes and alternate mixesLP 6: THE BBC SESSIONS (November 1966 – January 1967)

As the Soft Machine's first bassist and original principal songwriter, Kevin Ayers was an overlooked force behind the group's groundbreaking recordings in 1967 and 1968. On the LP he is accompanied by his Soft Machine colleagues Robert Wyatt, Mike Ratledge and Hugh Hopper.180g vinyl.

With top of the range studio facilities and musicians at hand, founders David Paich, Bobby Kimball, Steve Lukather and the Porcaro brothers know how to craft a song or two.Their fourth album, released in 1982, was aptly titled IV and contains world hits "Rosanna" and "Africa".Noteworthy contestants for est songs' on this legendary album are "Make Believe" and "I Won't Hold You Back", both of which have proven chart success. The band was unarguably at its peak. After recording IV, Toto's members returned to the studio in order to help write and record Michael Jackson's Thriller (MOVLP014).

Limited edition for Record Store Day 2017! Formed in the Manchester suburb of Middleton in 1981 The Chameleons were one of the more influential post-punk groups of the early to mid 80s. Recorded in early 1983, several months before the release of their acclaimed debut, Script of the Bridge, this live recording, from Manchester's Hacienda club, features early, raw versions of a handful of tracks from their debut album as well as the timeless debut single, "In Shreds", and two tracks only available here ("Men Of Steel" and "Years Ago"). The Chameleons are a hugely influential group that bridged the gap between early 80s UK post-punk, and the swirling brit-pop of early 90s Creation Records. Catch them here at their earliest and rawest. Live At The Hacienda is pressed in a numbered limited edition splatter vinyl version exclusively for RSD 2017.

Genre:Rock / Indie
Heavy UK hard rock album from 1972, produced by Deep Purple’s legendary frontman, Ian Gillan, originally released on the Decca/Deram label. It was Gillan who said of them: “Not many bands really excite me. But this one’s so raw and completely unpretentious. They make the biggest, bloodiest noise you can imagine, tempered with moments of extreme emotion.” And, of course, he’s right—the music is a menacing combination of over-the-top vocals and screaming lead guitars that could easily pass for something from the early British heavy metal scene—or something from the emotional hard core scene of the mid-1990’s (‘Primitive Man’). A favorite among vinyl collectors, the album is presented here in its ultimate glory, with all tracks direct from the original master tapes, housed in a high quality old-style gatefold cover; insert has liner notes written by bassist Paul Dean and rare photos. Stickered to indicate that this is the purple vinyl edition. Rough, raw, and doomy!

Though this live radio broadcast was recorded several months before their debut release, Suck On This, Primus were nonetheless a full formed band, having played locally, honing their chops, around Bay Area clubs for nearly 5 years. Les Claypool and crew rolled into the studios at KZSU in Stanford, CA in May of ’89 to perform their unique blend of funk-punk-metal for the college crowd. Featuring mostly tracks from their debut but also the fantastic “Sgt. Baker” which would not be officially released for another two years on their major label debut, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese, this live broadcast captures the band at their raw, early peak.

For the first time, Eric Woolfson’s 'POE More Tales of Mystery and Imagination' (released in 2003) has been re-mastered at Abbey Road and is being released on 180gsm vinyl with a gatefold sleeve and printed inner bag. Its release on 2nd December 2016 commemorates the 7th anniversary of Eric’s loss on the same date in 2009. It is also being released to coincide with Universal’s 40th Anniversary Box Set release of the original Alan Parsons Project Tales of Mystery and Imagination album, which will include a double vinyl, 5.1 BluRay and 60 page book. ‘If you remember me, I am immortal’ - Eric Woolfson 1945-2009. Eric’s sleeve notes when this album was first released in 2003: "My fascination with the world of Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) began more than thirty years ago. It led to the creation of the Alan Parsons Project and the first album ‘Tales Of Mystery And Imagination – Edgar Allan Poe’ in 1976. At that time, I already had in mind a volume two of ‘Tales’, but a change of record labels took the APP in other directions. Some years later, I decided it was time for me to revisit my hero, Poe, or “Eddy” as his friends called him. The first result of this was a stage musical and a concert version of ‘POE’ which tells the story of his extraordinary life and works. I realized that half of the songs in the musical contained the basis for a possible follow-up to ‘Tales’ and after preliminary work in my own studio, I went back into the legendary Abbey Road Studios where ‘More Tales Of Mystery And Imagination’ was completed. During the recordings, I had the immense good fortune to be introduced to Steve Balsamo. His remarkable voice lifted the tracks to a level I had not previously experienced and I pay full tribute to him and the many other talented and dedicated musicians, singers and studio engineers without whom I could not have fulfilled my dream of making a worthy follow up.This current work includes many of Poe’s most famous tales and poems but also includes glimpses of episodes in his life. A life, in many cases, even more bizarre and tortured than his literary works. The supreme irony of this literary giant surely lies in the fact that though constantly in poverty or debt for nearly all of his life, a copy of his first published poem ‘Tamerlane’ would sell at auction today for over half a million dollars. It is probably the highest priced item of classical American literature. In death he also achieved world-wide success and acknowledgement as the genius who devised the genres of the ‘Detective Novel’ and ‘Science Fiction’. To me, the greatest compliment that has been paid to recordings of my work is that they are ‘Cinematic’ and while listening, if you close your eyes, you can see pictures. Without wishing to intrude into the creative imaginations of the listener, I have included a brief reference to the literary work or event in Poe’s life that originally inspired my work. The instrumental ANGEL OF THE ODD is the title of one of Poe’s quirkiest stories. WINGS OF EAGLES expresses the way he saw the world. The commonplace becomes distorted into fantasy. Reality assumes an overwhelming intensity, creating an emotional roller-coaster for his turbulent emotions. Poe as an infant was introduced to gin and laudanum (an opiate), by an exhausted, though well-meaning nanny. Little wonder that this led to problems throughout his life. Shortly before his death, Poe was found badly beaten and left for dead outside a tavern which had served as a polling station in a local election. TRAIN TO FREEDOM was inspired by the atmosphere of the political campaigning that might have prevailed in that bar. Untimely death was a recurring feature of Poe’s life and works. Possibly, his inability to come to terms with the death of his mother when he was three years old, found an outlet in so many of his stories of premature burials and the beautiful, though ghostly heroines of his poetry. All of this is reflected in SOMEWHERE IN THE AUDIENCE. It was the sound of words even more than their meaning that enthused Poe. His poem THE BELLS is an outstanding example. To me, the most graphic of Poe’s tales is THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM, which tells the story of a helpless victim of the Spanish Inquisition. THE MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE is the first detective novel and Poe’s fictional sleuth. C. Auguste Dupin was the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes some sixty years later. TINY STAR is a further reflection on the mother who died when Eddy was three years old. The song is a remembrance of a lullaby that she might have sung. His marriage to his young cousin Virginia inspired GOODBYE TO ALL THAT. She, like his mother, was to die at age twenty four. Rufus Griswold was a jealous rival. Although he was Poe’s literary executor, when Poe died, he wrote a poisonous obituary and did everything he could to bury his works along with the man. Despite Griswold’s efforts, Poe eventually took his rightful place as one of the greatest literary geniuses of all time. The song, IMMORTAL is a reflection on the presence of Poe’s everlasting spirit.”

DIG! Records presents the archival reissue of The Strand’s debut album “Seconds Waiting” originally released by Wasp Records in 1983. An unlikely piece in the underground Rock’n’Roll puzzle – as much so then as it is now – The Strand hail from Old Town, Virginia, a city known more for its Presidential Masonic temple than an original independent music scene. Situated on the Potomac River across from D.C. and its much-lauded hardcore scene, it’s no surprise that with the exception of diehard music nuts the The Strand recorded output has remained an obscurity until now. By design, pop back-catalogues are a mess of two-or-so minute sides: one-hit-wonders, near misses and flat out failed attempts. “Seconds Waiting”, recorded in ’82 at Hit & Run Studios (yeah, like the early Void demos), makes good on Pops Promise with a full album worth of hits – take your pick! It’s a rare instance of the power pop gestalt fully realized. This is a true classic power pop reissue from ’83 with an unreleased studio track.

By the time The Second Album was released in 1966, the Spencer Davis Group had exploded onto the British music scene thanks in no small part to the incredible talent of its young organ player and singer, a kid named Stevie Winwood who had already begun drawing comparisons to some of the greatest R&B singers in history of music. The LP, again produced by Chris Blackwell, included their first No. 1 hit, a version of Jamaican singer Jackie Edwards' 'Keep On Running', which allowed the young Stevie to finally purchase his own Hammond. Featuring 5 bonus tracks, including their 1966 hit single, 'Gimme Some Lovin' b/w 'Blues In F', 'Back Into My Life Again', the Hammond-heavy 'Trampoline', and their version of Roy Orbison's classic 'Oh! Pretty Woman'. Limited edition of 500 copies on 180 gram clear vinyl.

LP with silk-screened cover and a 2-page insert. Having unfortunately fallen into the pits of oblivion, The Velvet Illusions were never given the honour of releasing a full LP. Hailing from the American north-west, the young fellows (aged 14-17 at the time) soon moved to Hollywood in the hope of finding glory and success, but thanks to a shady manager (their lefty girlfriend) their 7-inch EP was plagued by bad luck. Between 1967 and 1968, three A-sides and respective B-sides gave the band a legendary aura, with their angelic faces, their Vox amplifiers and their weird double-necked guitars. Now their ten rare gems are finally available on LP format! Featuring organ, saxophone and an unbridled fury, it's a bizarre trip through garage music, ranging from acid beats to anti-pot ballads (!!!). Limited to 1.000 copies.

Psychedelic Garage & Heavy Psych From The Golden Voice Label'. If you think that all the cool & obscure U.S garage-psych 45s have been already exhumed, please listen to this! Golden Voice was a custom label and state-of-the art studio based in Pekin, Illinois. In the 1960s-'70s, countless garage bands from the area recorded there, releasing custom-made 45s in very limited quantities. This vibrating scene had not been documented, 'til the release of this 15-track compilation. The music here is prime cut hard psychedelia, punk-a-delic sounds and proto hard-rock from the late '60s-early '70s with lot of fuzz-wah guitars, groovy organs and effects. All tracks are taken from obscure 45s and previously unreleased master tapes.

Lead by the charismatic voice of flautist and guitarist Gert Raabe, the band counts as one of Austria's most versatile bands of the 1970's, often likened to Jethro Tull, YES and ELP. Digatone restored their demos for the previously unreleased second album which were declined by the label at the time for being too weird, but today sound superb and very worthy of release. The band disbanded 1977. Original copies of the album very rarely come up for sale these days and when they do command a price of several hundred euros. The Eindhoven-based Mr. Albert Show may be considered one of the ultimate Dutch jam bands of the late sixties, combining elements from rhythm & blues, rock, soul and psychedelia. The five-piece, led by saxophone player Bertus Borgers (later a member of highly rated bands s.a. Sweet d'Buster, Golden Earring, Groove Express) was truly a sensation for anyone who witnessed one of their gigs in the period 1969-1973. The band recorded two albums, both of which now fetch high prices amongst international record collectors. This double-LP, pressed on 180-gram audiophile vinyl, features excellent sounding highlights (remastered from the original tapes!) from their farewell live-show, that took place in their hometown in 1973. Includes are renditions of band classics s.a. 'Electronic Baby' and 'Let It All Hang Out', as well as cover versions of 'Can't Find My Way Home' (Steve Winwood), the classic Beatles-song 'Things We Said Today' and the Stones-original 'Jumpin Jack Flash'. This release is presented in a great, heavy gatefold sleeve with artwork by well known cartoonist Joost Swarte, and including rare photos and liner notes by Wouter Bessels.

Non-hippie devastating guitar-psych and PCP induced hard-rock!! ANGEL DUST PSYCHEDELIA is a "100% killers, no fillers" compilation featuring obscure and unknown 45s / unreleased acetates from the US, most of them released on private labels. Many local underground bands of the late 1960s-early 1970s lacked the money and/or material needed to make a full-length album, and would put out a self-released 45 instead. Record collectors and writers have been slow to understand this treasure of vintage private press singles, with music that is every bit as good as hallowed underground LPs like Mystic Siva or Boa. 14 tracks including the monster acid-punker "Time gone to waste" by Local Traffic, post-Stereo Shoestring band Red House with an unreleased track, the mega rare acetate by Matchbox from Houston, tremendous acid-psych by Dick St John and Ragweed Patch, raw hard-rock by Masque and Zoo and more. The perfect companion to those legendary 80s psych comps like Brain Shadows, Acid Dreams, Endless Journey. Remastered sound for a stunning in-your-face heavy guitar experience. Limited to 500 copies.

An early seventies Swiss band that showcases heavy blues-rock in fusion with the psychedelic influences of other swiss bands like Krokodil or Country Lane. With excellent guitar playing. The Spot LP is one of the rarest from the European underground scene for sure; it was pressed across the border in France under contract like the Splendid label stuff was (Pacific Sound, Aftershave, etc.), which makes it highly unlikely that it ever made it past an initial order of a few hundred copies for their local fan base. If you like heavy rock with searing distorted wah-wah guitar, this has it. If you like the juxtaposition provided by the short acoustic numbers on the Tractor LP, Spot does that as well.

Now for some Japanese psyche and experimental music of the mid 1970s. Do not expect any lush pop harmonies from this music collective formed in 1974 which was at least active up to the early 90s. Geinoh Yamashirogumi approach psychedelic music with from a rather krautish point of view and their first album from 1976 about which I write this review is rather a collage of strange noises, screams, a few rhythms patterns and wide open structures that seem to be borrowed from late 1960s psyched out free jazz. And you can bet, this is an ever flowing freak out but definitely an intense and mind bending experience. I recall German oddities like Organisation (pre Kraftwerk), Faust and others but there is another aspect in the music that is more difficult to trace down. Funk and jazz rock with a breathtakingly smouldering atmosphere you would rather expect from English groups emerging from the Canterbury scene like Soft Machine or some of the rather jazz oriented Italian progressive acts. But all in all Geinoh Yamashirogumi find an even more radical way to express their feelings and make their inner visions manifest in sound despite a sweet smoothness coming with these rocking jazz elements. Oh dear, this is definitely far from being ordinary. Choirs with typical Japanese chants add some wicked exotic tinges to the whole musical picture. If you dig progressive, krautish psychedelic jazz rock, this is exactly what you are looking for. The whole album is divided into two parts of which „Osorazan“ comes closest to rock music while „Doh no kembai“ seems to be a live performance of a stage play by this music and theatre collective based nearly entirely on vocals. Open minded lovers of truly progressive music from the 1970s will go nuts.

Release:1969 / UK – Reissue

Complete recordings (1969-1974) of a legendary US Acid-Punk band, famous for appearing on the seminal psych compilation 'Endless Journey' back in the '80s. Nevertheless, Unsettled Society were a total mystery until now. The band came from the New York suburbs and were famous locally for their powerful stage shows, full of strobe and psychedelic lights. In 1969 they released their first 45 for the Charm label, '17 Diamond Studded Cadillacs', which is pure acid-psych, lo-fi basement insanity. It was coupled with 'Passion Seeds', a killer moody, atmospheric psych ballad. Between 1972 and 1974 they released two more 45s in a fantastic heavy psych vein, the last one recorded as Thunder Head. All of these recordings are included here with sound taken from the original tapes. The release includes a fold-out insert with lot of amazing unseen photos and detailed liner notes by Charm Records boss Pete Huntley.

The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions, when David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason played freely together at Britannia Row and Astoria studios. This was the first time they had done so since the 'Wish You Were Here' sessions in the seventies. Those sessions resulted in The Division Bell, the band's last studio album. In 2013 David Gilmour and Nick Mason revisited the music from those sessions and decided that the tracks should be made available as part of the Pink Floyd repertoire. It would be the last time the three of them would be heard together. The band have spent the last year recording and upgrading the music, using the advantages of modern studio technology to create The Endless River. The Endless River is a tribute to Rick Wright, whose keyboards are at the heart of the Pink Floyd sound. It is a mainly instrumental album with one song, 'Louder Than Words', (with new lyrics by Polly Samson), arranged across four sides and produced by David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Youth and Andy Jackson.
