The fantastic soundtrack of the new Tarantino comes in a double gatefold sleeve with inlay and poster.

A phenomenal soundtrack to a phenomenal movie. Tarantino once again proves that he not only has a great taste when it comes to music, but he also takes a good amount of time to dig through record collections to pick gems for his soundtracks and arrange the 22 songs 9 era-specific radio advertisements.
This should become a movie soundtrack classic.

When Light In The Attic released _Pacific Breeze: Japanese City Pop, AOR & Boogie 1976-1986_ in 2019, it was the first collection of its kind to be released outside Japan. It proved to be just what music fans had been waiting for—a compilation of sought-after tracks that had been nearly impossible to obtain unless you were well-connected with dealers and collectors, or traveled regularly to the countless record stores in Japan. _Pacific Breeze_ included Minako Yoshida, Taeko Ohnuki, Hiroshi Sato and Haruomi Hosono among other key players of ‘70s-’80s Japanese City Pop, the nebulous genre that encompassed an “amalgam of AOR, R&B, jazz fusion, funk, boogie and disco, all a touch dizzy with tropical euphoria,” as we described it the first time around.

With _Pacific Breeze 2: Japanese City Pop, AOR & Boogie 1972-1986_ we dig deeper into those sounds of bubble-era Japan. From the proto-City Pop funk of Bread & Butter and Eiichi Ohtaki to the crate-digger favorites Eri Ohno and Piper, the latest entry in Light In The Attic’s Japan Archival Series brings another set of sought-after tunes, most of which have never before been available outside of Japan. Tomoko Aran and Anri, also included in this compilation, are just a few of the artists who have gained popularity in recent years thanks to Vaporwave, the meme-genre that heavily samples Japanese City Pop to create its particular aesthetic.

_Pacific Breeze 2_ once again feature the artwork of renowned Tokyo-based illustrator Hiroshi Nagai, whose iconic images of resort living have become synonymous with City Pop. Nagai’s urban tropical imagery is a perfect match for the expertly curated tunes, evoking a certain sense of nostalgia for the leisure lifestyles of ‘70s-’80s Tokyo, while simultaneously being perfectly in tune with the current zeitgeist.

The Dutch progressive rock group Drama comprised a number of individuals who had already made their marks in the past in several different bands: Polle Eduard (Tee Set, After Tea), drummer Ton ‘Shell’ Schellekens (Brainbox, In Crowd), Ulli Grün (Boots, After Tea), and the young guitar virtuoso Frank van der Kloot (Bobby’s Children). In 1972 they released their only album Drama, including their massive hit Mary’s Mamma, written by musician Peter Koelewijn. This song is not representative for the rest of their music, which is much more experimental. After some arguments with the record label the band fell apart, leaving this wonderful record as their only album.

This debut album by America (1972) is considered as a
folk-pop classic, filled with a great collection of memorable
songs that proves their influence on acts as The Eagles and
Dan Fogelberg. Using vocal harmonies on “Sandman” and
“Children” and an intricate interplay of acoustic guitars is for
the period of time highly ambitious. The hits of this album
are of course the widely known “A Horse With No Name”,
“I Need You” and again “Sandman”. But also the buoyantly
charming “Three Roses”, the yearningly lovely “Rainy Day”
and the quietly ringing “Clarice” make this album as one of
their best and recommendable for any kind of music fan. A
classic to own and a stepping stone into the world of folkpop
music.
Available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered
copies on flaming gold coloured vinyl.

Some albums are certainly a kind of holy grail for music lovers and collectors of a certain genre, style and era. FAR OUT with their eponymous debut and unfortunately also farewell album from 1973 have created such a sacred gem. Original copies in good condition change hands for up to 2000 USD and there are certainly a few not so official reprints on vinyl and CD out on the market which do not even come close to do justice to the greatness of the old original black gold. But here we go with the first ever official vinyl reissue taken directly from the original mastertapes supplied by Nippon Columbia. EVERLAND MUSIC did a brilliant job as usual with their reissue. The coverart with a white glove hanging on a washing line to dry comes on an awesome heavy gatefold sleeve. Including 2 inserts with live photos from back in the day when the band was going wild on stage.
Now for the most important part, the music. There are certainly not too many wild moments here since both long tracks „Too many people“ and „Nihonjin“ have a melancholic, dreamy approach with a desperately howling and sighing lead guitar that spouts some utterly intense melodies. These two tracks are epics in the pure sense of the word. They start both with a rather gentle part which develops into a journey of sound that bring either vast landscapes of enchanting beauty untouched by modern human life or quite dramatic scenes to your mind’s eye. The lead guitarist often uses some strange instrument which is a kind of electric sitar to add the atmosphere of eastern mystic. So while falling into a state of deep trance while letting the music rush through my ears into my brain my spirit that has left my body embarks on a trip from the smokey volcanic hills around Pompeji to the icy permafrost wastelands of the Northeastern lands and arrives somewhere in the East Asian jungle on a gold plated pyramid of an unspeakable age where laughing demons dance around mystic fireplaces. Yes, this is the real journey to the center of your mind and despite having no really abstract freak out parts, tricky instrumental runs and twisted rhythm figures this music will capture your whole existence for the next 38 minutes. The end of „Nihonjin“, the second tune, shows an ambient like section with synthesizer background, echoing atonal sitar, a brightly squeaking flute, organ carpet and some percussions. This is indeed a rather extreme part, due to the pointed tone of the flute but quite soon the music stops and leaves the listener back in reality. This second track later on got a kind of reappearance on the FAR EAST FAMILY album „Nipponjin“, also retitled as „Nipponjin“. Mastermind behind both acts is multi instrumentalist Fumio Miyashita, so there is no wonder. The later version has more space rock elements and electronic sounds than the original FAR OUT tune and is a little bit shorter all in all. But I digress.
This is the real thing for those who still miss the melodies and atmosphere of the late 60s and very early 70s when people had a dream of a peaceful world and who enjoy early German cosmic kraut rock like AMON DÜÜL II, ORGANISATION (later to become KRAFTWERK), the debut album by TANGERINE DREAM and more obscure stuff but also international bands like GONG, TWINK and HAWKWIND just as an East Asian version. A real gem and finally available with the real sound and package again.

Erkin Koray –Aşkımız Bitecek Türküola releases another pearl from his veteran catalogue once again. The German pressing of Erkin Koray’s “Aşkımız Bitecek” which was previously released in Turkey as Erkin Koray’s debut album. The cover is parcelled with high quality visuals of Erkin Koray exclusively from Türküola achieve. The album focuses on oriental psychedelic singles of Erkin Koray in the era between 1967-1973. The ultra-energetic cover of “The Land of 1000 Dances” named “Sana Birşeyler Olmuş” with its killer organ, “Mesafeler” with its aroma of LSD, “Yağmur” with its psychedelic effects on an oriental piece, “Kızları da Alın Askere” as Erkin Koray’s first beat folk hit, “İstemem” with its killer guitars and drums are the special pearls of this album. We should also not forget to mention “Aşkımız Bitecek” with its electric bouzouki performance which is a rare thing to hear in Turkish psychedelia. Last but not least Koray’s Altın Mikrofon arrangement “Çiçek Dağı” is a great beat piece with hard touches which is still covered by bands like Boom Pam. All these songs were performed by Erkin Koray with his several different bands such as Erkin Koray 4, Yeraltı Dörtlüsü, and Super Group.

Pacific Breeze documents Japan’s blast into the stratosphere. By the 1960s, the nation had achieved a postwar miracle, soaring to become the world’s second largest economy. Thriving tech exports sent The Rising Sun over the moon. Its pocket cassette players, bleeping video games, and gleaming cars boomed worldwide, wooing pleasure points and pumping Japanese pockets full of yen.

Japan’s financial buoyancy also permeated its popular culture, birthing an audio analog called City Pop. This new sound arose in the mid ’70s and ruled through the ’80s, channeling the country’s contemporary psyche. It was sophisticated music mirroring Japan’s punch-drunk prosperity. City Pop epitomized the era, providing a soundtrack for emerging urbanites. An optimistic spirit buzzed through the music in neon-bathed, gauzy tableaus coated with groove-heavy strokes.

Pacific Breeze is an expertly compiled collection of choice cuts that range from silky smooth grooves to innovative techno pop bangers and everything in between. Long-revered by crate diggers and adventurous music heads, this music has never been released outside of Japan until now. Including key artists like Taeko Ohnuki and Minako Yoshida, as well as cult favorites Hitomi Tohyama and Hiroshi Sato, the long-awaited release also features newly commissioned cover painting by Tokyo-based artist Hiroshi Nagai, whose iconic images of resort living have graced the covers of many classic City Pop albums of the 1980s.

Many of the key City Pop players evolved from the Japanese New Music scene of the early ’70s, as heard on Light In The Attic’s acclaimed Even a Tree Can Shed Tears: Japanese Folk & Rock 1969-1973, the first release of the ongoing Japan Archival Series. In fact, you could say City Pop set sail with a champagne smash from Happy End, the freakishly talented subversives who included amongst their ranks Haruomi Hosono and Shigeru Suzuki, both featured on this compilation. As Michael K. Bourdaghs noted in his book, Sayonara Amerika, Sayonara Nippon, this music was, “Deconstructing the line between imitation and authenticity.” Some of the best City Pop teeters in this zone—easy listening with mutant exotica, tilted techno-pop, and steamy boogie bubbling beneath the gloss.

Randy Holden is an American guitarist best known for his involvement with the West Coast blues-rock group Blue Cheer on their third album, New! Improved! (1969).
Holden obtained a sponsorship deal with Sunn amplifiers. Through this, he received his legendary sixteen 200 Watt amplifiers. His new band was dubbed “Randy Holden - Population II which was a reference to the fact there were only two members in the band as well as being an astronomical term “Population II that defines a special kind of Star Group cluster type, having Heavy Metal in its composition. An appropriate description of the original style of the music attributed to Holden’s new band. The band recorded its only album, Population II in 1970. “(...) These guitars sound not like heavy metal falling from the sky, but like black holes disintegrating chunks of the earth’s core (...)” The album has become a much-sought-after collectors’ item over the years.

With future David Letterman band members drummer Anton Fig and bassist Will Lee backing him up, Frehley shows that he is more than a songwriting match for bandmates Simmons and Stanley. In fact, the album yielded a Top 20 hit in "New York Groove."

LP | 1982 | EU | Reissue (Mental Experience)

Release:1982 / EU – Reissue
Genre:Organic Grooves, Rock / Indie, Electronic / Dance
Debut album from 1982 by former Lounge Lizards bass player & founding member STEVE PICCOLO, featuring bandmate EVAN LURIE plus G. LINDAHL. A hidden gem of minimalist beauty, mixing a post-punk/DIY/lo-fi aesthetic with art-rock & spoken poetry.
Steve Piccolo has been in active since the mid-1970s in music, theater, performance art, sound installations, video and film soundtracks.
In 1979 he started with the Lurie brothers the “fake jazz” / No Wave band Lounge Lizards.
“Domestic Exile” was recorded one year after the seminal Lounge Lizards debut, at a time when Steve was living a kinda schizophrenic existence: working at Wall Street by day and going to clubs and art spaces almost every evening (he was one of the artists filmed for the No Wave documentary “135 Grand Street New York 1979”).
Early on, he was influenced by Mose Allison, Tom Lehrer, Randy Newman and “people who put thoughtful witty lyrics onto rather standard pop music”. In just two weeks, Steve wrote the collection of songs which would form “Domestic Exile”. Somebody described them as “Neurotic City Folklore” - as the lyrics dealt with living in NYC, urban angst, isolation, yuppies, nuclear paranoia…Titles like “Young and Ambitious”, “Modern Man”, “Businessman's Lament”, “Bleecker Street”, “Superior Genes”… The idea was to use these songs for a sort of “side project”, originally conceived more like a soundtrack for performance art and less like a band.
The recording took place at the ZBS Foundation in New York, engineered by Bob Bielecki (a collaborator of Laurie Anderson and La Monte Young). Steve sang, played electric guitar, bass / double bass and percussion. He was joined by Lounge Lizards bandmate Evan Lurie on Farfisa keyboard (the same one he used on the first Lounge Lizards album) and G. Lindahl on synth.
The trio even played live a few times, including a benefit concert for Public Access Synthesizer Studio at CBGB.
After “Domestic Exile” was finished, Steve played the tapes to some record labels in New York and although one of the tracks, the catchy “I Don’t Want To Join A Cult”, was an underground hit in Manhattan - even Debbie Harry (Blondie) wanted to do a cover version - no one expressed interest in releasing the album.
Soon after, Steve went to Italy and “Domestic Exile” was finally released on a local label, housed in a cover very similar to the first Lounge Lizards album.
The result was a minimalist art-rock masterpiece which could be described as a lo-fi version of John Cale’s “Music For A New Society”.
Sadly, the quality of the original pressing was not very good (cheap, noisy vinyl) and there was a mistake with a couple of song titles / running order on Side 1. These issues have been fixed for this new reissue.

This 1972 BBC Live recording is the perfect proof of what a band like Matching Mole could do in concert during their too short existence. The quartet playing was way more free and adventurous than in studio and the tunes were often stretched out and built to dense instrumental climaxes. Dave MacRae - electric piano, Phil Miller - guitar, Bill MacCormick - bass, Robert Wyatt - drums, vocals. A great live session from a key group in the Canterbury rock scene and an essential companion to the band's historical studio albums

Ear-splitting hard-rock / proto-doom-metal from the early 70s! Electric Funeral were a pioneering Swiss hard-rock band who sadly never registered any studio recordings at the time. Formed in the late 60s by Edi Hirt (drums), Pierrot Wermeille (bass), Alain Christinaz (guitar) and Dominique Bourquin (vocals), they were influenced by bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. Famous for their loud (they played behind gia nt stacks of Marshall amps) and powerful shows, their sound was too heavy-sounding for a regular label to offer them a contract.
“The Wild Performance” is made of private live & rehearsal tapes recorded in 1970, very raw and lo-fi but it’s the only testimony of their brutal sound. First released in 1991 as a very limited (now heavily sought after) LP, here’s an expanded edition with newly remastered sound and four killer bonus tracks, taken from reels and tapes recently found in the band’s archives. These tracks were also recorded in 1970 except for “My Destiny” (1973). Sound is still lo-fi but slightly better than the original “Wild Perfomance” tracks, especially on the killer “You Can Help” (proto-punk á la Electric Eels!), “My Destiny” and the alternate version of “You Can Help”.

The year 1967 is when The Jimi Hendrix Experience took the world by storm releasing their first two albums to universal acclaim. Though the group would release their swansong, and perhaps masterstroke, Electric Ladyland, in October of 1968, Jimi was already prone to jamming with all sorts of other musicians and this classic set at Café Au Go Go on Bleecker St. is arguably the most legendary jam session of his all to brief career. Featuring such stalwarts as Buddy Miles, Elvin Bishop, and Paul Butterfield, this set features bluesy, raw, and stone cold brilliant playing from all involved, but it is Jimi that shines brightest. If you’re gonna own one Jimi Hendrix live set from early in his career, this is the ONE.

Coalmine Records is pleased to relaunch ‘Land of the Crooks,’ the collaborative extended play project from the late Sean Price and Melbourne’s go to producer, M-Phazes. The project finds the longtime underground legend lending his distinctive, Brownsville-bred grimy vocals over Phazes’ rich tracks full of dramatic pianos, rich bass-lines, swinging horns and hard drums.

Guilty Simpson).” For this special edition rerelease, Coalmine has also added the Divided Souls Ent. & DJ Pain 1 Remix of “Land of the Crooks,” which was only previously made available on the label’s remix compilation, ‘Remineded,’ which first dropped back in January of 2015.
The B-side includes the instrumental passes of all of the original tracks, as well as the Small Pro Remix, in addition to the “Crookapella,” which includes various scratch stems taken from the EP, in addition to various isolated drum sounds, sound effects, and acapella of the “Land of the Crooks” single.

This limited edition splatter vinyl LP includes recordings from February, March, April, and October of 1967 and include killer versions of Hendrix classics like "Foxy Lady", "Manic Depression", "Stone Free", and "Purple Haze", as well as two great performances featuring the brilliant Stevie Wonder on drums. Makam madness gives way to instrumental prog on this burned-out last album, released in 1976, by Turkey's Anadolu Pop heroes.

Mogollar was the band that never had a singer attached for long, and yet even more than Baris or Erkin, they consciously highlighted what was different about the new sounds of the era.

Incredible fusion of ancient Anatolian melodies and instruments with prog/psych including ocassional piercing fuzz guitar.

Recommended to anyone into John Berberian, Devil's Anvil and vintage Turkish psych.

Recorded in 1973 during a series of acid-fuelled all-night jam parties held at producer Dieter Dierks’ studio near Cologne, Cosmic Jokers was the work of a veritable krautrock supergroup that included Dierks himself, Manuel Göttsching (Ash Ra Tempel), Klaus Schulze (Tangerine Dream), Jürgen Dollase and Harald Grosskopf (both of Wallenstein). This free-form freak out—consisting of two epic tracks, the 22 min “Galactic Joke” and the 19 min “Cosmic Joy”— was first of five albums by the group to be released on Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser’s Cosmic Couriers label in the coming months. In 1978, Kiss simultaneously released solo albums from all four members. Gene Simmons, most associated with Kiss's heavier side, is revealed to be a closet Beatles fan as evidenced by "See You Tonite," "Always Near You," "Man of 1,000 Faces," and "Mr. Make Believe." But the surprises don't stop there: choirs and string arrangements, 70s funk, and good time rock n' roll also appear alongside heavy rockers like hit single "Radioactive." This eclectic mix of material is supported by guests like Aerosmith's Joe Perry, Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen, Bob Seger, Donna Summer, and Janis Ian.

“Three thick LPs of hot jellied kraut-prog heavies coming at you from 1970s Swiss-German based Kedama: three LPs of ‘live’ in-the-studio and actual live recordings—unbelievably telekinetic drums, keys and guitar. Vision quest soundscapes, a total gem lost to the ages here, y’all. The first LP was reissued by Geurrson Records a while back, the other two LPs are unreleased on wax as of yet: rarities and live oddities. It’s been a real pleasure to work with these guys, as they were as excited as we were and provided us with a plethora of recordings and photos and press clippings to sort through, to pull together this nice little set.
“It’s raw, like you like it after a few. It’s heavy, so you can nod as you sway along the path. It’s beautiful, so you can reminisce. It’s winding, so your imagination is blindfolded. It’s far-flung space jams so you can fry out. It’s screwed-down genius so you can be inspired. This shit is far out and a real-deal old school fuse lighter and its limited to 1000 copies. Nice, never seen before photos of the gurus, so come and get it nerds!

Château d’Hérouville is a residential recording studio in Hérouville, France made famous by Elton John, who recorded three albums at the studios, (Honky Château, Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player and Goodbye Yellowbrick Road). Marc Bolan, Gong, David Bowie, Bad Company, Iggy Pop, Fleetwood Mac… there is a long, long list of groups who have recorded there. It was once home to Chopin and Vincent van Gogh apparently painted part of the building.
The Grateful Dead did not record in the famous studio, per se, but they did perform a locally legendary impromptu gig there on June 21, 1971. In The Dead Book: A Social History Of The Grateful Dead, Hank Harrison (Courtney Love’s estranged father), briefly a manager of the group, wrote: “The Dead started to play just before the sky got dark, but their entire set was illuminated by bright lights from the Paris socialized television station Link Two, which rebroadcast the event the next week. Their film technique was flawless, as one would expect from a French film team; the camera people were completely unobtrusive on the musicians; the lights bugged Phil a little. Pig Pen just barely recovered in time to sing after downing his two bottles of duty free Wild Turkey… Weir was in fine primal scream voice, and Garcia settled into his trancelike lassitude from which emanates the famous electronic genius that is particularly his.”

The absolute king of lo-fi basement psychedelia, originally released as a private pressing in 1974 by this duo from Ohio. From dreamy melancholic tracks to insane fuzzed-out heavy psych ones.
“Two multi-instrumentalists creating a melancholic dreamlike state with songs fading in and out of the speakers, cavemen drums, primitive electronics and murky fuzz lurking in the background. The best tracks go into places no other albums reach”– Patrick Lundborg (Acid Archives).
‘Emerges’ as in slowly from the primordial sludge of the universe. 'Emerges' like a slow, slouching spectre hauling itself out of the swamps. But then what's a boy to do?
It's 1974, you're young and have a head full of Hawkwind and Roky and the Elevators, old brutalist blues in the Hound Dog Taylor / Fred McDowell backwoods whisky-fucked mode, freakfolk and LSD; you're stuck in Hicksville, USA - that's Youngstown, Ohio to you lot; the music scene sucks; glam's dead or dying slowly; punk a good year of so from even starting to get itself born. Town's too damn small to even muster up a band in. It's just and your buddy and that's it, man.
So you grows your hair and wear satin, wander wide-eyed and tripping across small town railway tracks and hang loose at the weekend in your basement. You gather a bunch if cheapo instruments on the never-never and you start cutting low-fi bedroom demos. Slowly, slowly Stone Harbour emerge.
Stone Harbour were Ric Ballas - electric, acoustic and slide guitars; organ; piano; synthesizers; bass guitar percussion and voice - and Dave McCarty - lead vocals, drums and percussion... and out of nowhere and nothing, at entirely the wrong time, they cut an LP that will blow your head clean off. This is a trip into the true dark heart of psychedelia.
The music? What can I tell you? ‘You'll be a star’ shimmers and aches in the midnight; cymbals wash over you, Dave McCarty's vocals emerge from some subterranean cave and the keyboards flicker, flicker, flash across the periphery of the song; ‘Rock & Roll Puzzle’ is dark, twisted fried garage punk blues brutality in the same mould as 'White Faces' or 'Cold Night for Alligators', pre-empting The Gories and Pussy Galore by a good ten years!!
"Who invented rock & roll? And who invented soul? Was it you or was it me?" Indeed. Songs fade in and out; finger-picking blurs into screaming squeiching synths; guitars melt in the mid-summer heat. ‘Grains of Sand’ frazzles like The Stooges through a fucked-up amp and filtered through a transistor radio with the valves burning out.
‘Thanitos’ is the freak-out ending of ‘Julia’s Dream’ lost in suburban downtown US of A with the taillights cutting on the freeway .. . whilst ‘Summer Magic is Gone’ is the most haunted, haunting song I've heard in many a long strange moon. Shimmers like stars in the 2am fug and haze and bleeds lost and lonely and bruised into the heat-warped dawn. You're still awake though the brain don't work like it used to. Blurred and bleary and exhilarated and stoned the very core of the soul. Best record I've heard all year. - Hugh Dellar (Shindig!)

Trippy '60s-styled psychedelia from Australia!
Originally issued as a 12” mini-album in 1986, Tyrnaround's 'Colour Your Mind' has become a touchstone of 1980s Neo-Psychedelia and almost certainly one of the best records of the second psychedelic era.
Influenced by classic '60s British Psychedelia it was also inspired by The Dukes of Stratosphear's ‘25-O-Clock’ and perhaps exceeds that record's trip factor with the acid infused title track (featured on Amorphous Androgynous ‘Wizards of Oz’ Compilation and also famously covered by Vibravoid) blending searing acid fuzz guitar, swirling keyboards, surreal lyrics and sumptuous early Floyd like harmonies.
Now expanded to a full length LP, including all the bands singles as well as the rare Freakbeat Magazine 45 'Paragon-Smythe' (featuring the never released before unedited version), this could be seen as Tyrnaround's perfect debut album.

Argus were an obscure British outfit with connections to Rare Amber and Julian’s Treatment. Their sound was hard-hitting bluesy hard-rock, similar to Hackensack or Killing Floor. It is included here along with a few live tracks from post-Argus underground psych-prog outfit Anaconda.
