Genre:Organic Grooves, Electronic / Dance
Contrary to the songs name, this interpretation of a traditional Afro-Brasilian candomble song, appears to be forged from mythical lost amazonian gold.Recorded in Sao Paulo with an allstar cast of Arteria FM (on vocal duties), Salvador Araguaya (caressing the Viola Caipira) & Spaniol (stroking the Baixo), steered by Nicola's production prowess, this quartet delivers a melodic enhancement to the summer sun.As if the sun wasn't shining bright enough already, the single comes backed by a remarkable remixer ensemble procured from their duties as fellow sun-worshippers:Xique-Xique's Dragonfruit Mix is a wondrous journey full of surprising leaps and bounds, alternating between hypnotic electronics and organic song structure. Saving the best 'til last he raises the energy whilst keep the beats low and the vibes ecstatic. HIT !Crussen's creamy cocodub raises the energy whilst concentrating on a dubbed out groove, (that) classic Crussen bassline and carefully sliced & re-appropriated vocals. Finally in-house poster-boy Carrot Green's Granola mix combines disco, deep grainy bassines, juicy bells and signature flourishes into a bowl of magical mind-whirling hip-spinning edible sex.

Music From Memory's final compilation of 2017 sees the release of the double album “1 by 1”, which brings together the works of American experimental musician Geoffrey Landers. During a period spanning from 1979 to 1987, this Denver, Colorado based multi-instrumentalist, composer, record producer and engineer, conceived several solo albums. Only two of these, “The Ever Decimal Pulse” and “Habitual Features” along with the single “Breedlove” were ever released on vinyl. .Being heavily involved in the local industrial/punk/new wave scene and wanting to create a recording studio “available to record artists regardless of their financial circumstances” Landers set up “The Packing House Studio” in 1981. This analog 8-track recording facility was located in a former slaughterhouse in the stockyards of Denver and was a place of significant activity for the next three years with the studio releasing recordings from numerous artists most notably Allen Ginsberg. It was here that Geoffrey Landers also started his own aptly named “Cauhaus” label. Indicative of the underground/DIYculture, “Cauhaus” was a subsiduary of a label called Local Anaesthetics which was started as an in-store label by independent Denver record store Wax Trax. Typically Cauhaus releases were only pressed up in small quantities and independently distributed, making Lander's music essentially elusive to a wide audience. After relocating in 1984 to an art district of Denver Landers opened the “Cauhaus Institute of Recording” studio where he continued to produce music for soundtracks, art and multi media projects for the next three years, after which Landers stepped out of the music industry entirely. He currently creates and exhibits mixed-media glass art.Throughout the twenty tracks of "1 by 1", of which six previously appeared on CD only, we are submerged into a wide diversity of musical approaches from Geoffrey Landers. From the proto-house track “Logarhythms” and the heart breaking New-Wave Boogie/Funk of “Say You’ll Say So” to the more contemplative pieces such as the oriental insprired “Nisei” and the drenched in sunshine dub/reggae track “Mack” Landers shies away from musical expectations again and again; searching continually for innovative and new forms of expression.

Yoshimura was involved in a wide range of fields, such as sound design for public installations, graphic design, visual poetry, free improvised performance (using his own body) and inventing his own instruments, right up until he passed away in 2003.The seven songson this album were created for a fashion exibition held at a warehouse in the Tokyo bay area. He released it on cassete tape on Japanese label ‘Fukusei Gijutsu Kohboh” ran by Yoshio Ojima who produced the album.Referring to the Loft: "As the time goes by, the Loft that was swept away ( forgotten) from the City but it somewhat has a look of a " City of Ruins" that reminds you of something you have forgotten. Something nostalgic. Sounds from the City and the vast landscape gave me a great opportunity to take a fresh look at Tokyo." says Yoshimura.Referring To the Pier: His look towards Tokyo bay takes on the shape of sonic particles....tickling down gently while tinged with change. A landscape of Seven Sounds. This is the first-ever vinyl release, 34 years after it's recording. The sleeve image is the same as on the original cassette release.

Fresh from wowing us with that crazy limited promo 45, Parisian Krikor Kouchian delivers 11 tracks of expertly executed boogie funk. BIG TIP!.Think of the neon lights of the boulevard or a late nite drive through the lonely hills, Krikor Kouchian’s "Pacific Alley" propels you to a world of sleaze and excitement, where passion, money, and illicit substances take precedent and the sun beats down in a relentless unforgiving fashion.Spending time as a youth in Southern Cailifornia, the French-born Kouchian developed an obsession with this Americana and the magic of everything California. The music on the radio, from pop, to funk, to hip hop fueled his impressionable mind, later on taking influence in his own music.Pacific Alley is a snapshot of this lost period, full of juicy low slung basslines, slow bpm cruisers, Linn drum crashes, and ride or die melodies. The elements all meld together through this 11 track lp, it's equal parts uplifting and melancholic, downtrodden, yet not without rays of light; the soundtrack for days hanging in front of the corner stores and nights on the strip, both a naive love affair and backstabbing doublecross. This is boogie funk for the grift, a dollar here buys a bottle there so step into the shade, pop the tape in the deck and enter into the concrete dreamworld.

The most obscure and sought after italian electronic release, but also another extraordinary 70s output from the legendary Regson Studio of Milan remembering in 1976 "Funky Bump" and a year later "Disco Shitan", both produced by Pino Presti. The eclectic brother of Vangelis chit> he was playing keyboards like him, helped by Yorgos Pentzikis for the "vocoder" vocals, reached the right sound for one of the craziest electronic disco song now available for for the first time on 12, containing also the unreleased instrumental version. Nikos Papathanassiou in 1976 achieving success with the disco-hit "U" by Chrisma, but Maurizio Arcieri cousin of Pino Presti and Chrisma's leader, moved towards new-wave and punk. So for the orchestral conducting of a new cosmic-disco project titled MoreI Like It he involved Rodolfo Grieco who later produced in the emerging genre of Italo-Disco great classics like "Going Crazy" by Lily Ann."

Miraculously, he has brought this style of music to Europe's major big room clubs and huge festival stages worldwide, pleasing crowds in the habit of being hypnotized by homogenous house music.Espìritu de Protección opens as a revelation, two seconds into the groove and you're deep in the tribe. You're dancing, everybody's dancing, things dub out, melt down, and a haunting vocal wisps through the room, tickling the crowd from their tailbones to their pineal glands. Just as you recover from that spell, in fly the flutes. Every yogi in the vicinity sways into the front and all of a sudden, you KNOW you're getting laid tonight. That's the kind of power we're dealing with: CRUZ CONTROL.It's so potent we had to carefully extract the Flute-A-Pella and serve it up separately to use as a cult DJ tool.On the flip side, not one but two slamming remixes of Tzantza from Disco Halal-defekting Russian duo: Simple Symmetry. Strictly Classified - July 2017, Amsterdam, NLWe Write To You With The Conclusions Of Our Investigation Into The Synthesized Audio Transmissions Picked Up By The Deep Space Telescope At Irregular Intervals Since 1986.After Many Years, We Pinpointed The Source Of The Ear-Pleasing Frequencies. They Were Being Transmitted From A Secluded Building In “Kawasaki”, Japan. A Key To Their Origin Was Found On The Video-Sharing Site, “Youtube”.When We Visited The Building, We Discovered Identical Twins, Huddled Around A Synthesizer Manufactured By The Casio Cor-Poration. The Twins Told Us That Their Names Were Satoshi And Makoto, And That The Synthesizer Model Number Was Cz-5000.We Were Still Puzzled About The Music We Had Heard, Which Was Largely Ambient In Nature, Positive In Tone, And Possibly Extra-Terrestrial In Origin. Under Interrogation, Satoshi And Makoto Claimed That They Had Created Every Melody, Drumbeat And Musical Phrase Using This One Piece Of Japanese-Made Musical Hardware. We Doubted Their Version Of Events, So Asked For A Demonstra-Tion Of Their Working Method. Once They Had Shown Us How They Shaped, Played And Sequenced Sounds, We Accepted That The Transmissions We Had Received Were Indeed Created Entirelyusing The Cz-5000. Satoshi And Makoto Said That The Audio Transmissions We Were Investigating Had Been Mostly Been Created Throughout The 1990S, Under The Influence Of Early Japanese Techno, The Orb, Ymo, Kraftwerk And “Lots Of Soul”.We Asked To Be Provided With A Collection Of These Trans-Missions, Which Had Never Before Been Made Available To The Public. Satoshi And Makoto Kindly Provided Us With A Compact Disc, On To Which Was Scribbled The Code “St006”.We Believe It Is In The Public Interest To Make These Remark-Able Synthesizer Compositions Available For Wider Research. We Have Therefore Passed Them On To The “Safe Trip” Organisation. They Will Make Suitable Arrangements For Public Release

Multi Culti's lucid-lifestyle dreamer Peter Power takes us on a free-wheeling trip to the motherland on AFRO DAMBA.The Irish-born Voodoohop resident has returned from the jungles of Bahia with a fresh ep of primal party tracks sampling voices and rhythms from across Africa and it's neighbouring islands, producing what is easily his most club-oriented work to date.Whereas his tracks for Voodoohop were spiritual flute-heart-openers, these are neo-pagan mating-ritual floor-fillers. The rhythm is set to tribal chug, with rollicking percussion, reverb-soaked vocals, and all the fun jangly bells & bits you expect to be hanging off such a well-traveled producer. If that weren't enough, we enlisted Romanian-dance-duo Khidja to rework Adama Waro Resident mix-lord Dreems also weighs in with a subtle remix of Dansakoni, gently upping the tempo and tweaking the knobs in selfless service of the original groove.

Music From Memory’s final 12" for 2017 is a reissue of Dub Oven's self released, and sadly one-off, 1983 EP 'Skin N Bones’.Pioneers in the Post Punk Industrial and New Wave scene in 1980’s San Francisco, Gary Miles (Voice Farm) and Blaise Smith (Minimal Man), met at San Francisco’s notorious 181 Club in December of 1982. This straight/same sex/swing-both-ways late night dive bar was tucked away in one of the city's most risky, drug riddled neighbourhoods. Stationed near the SF Museum of modern Art it attracted a wild audience of local patrons, aspiring young artists and music heads. In the thick of all this the duo felt impartial to a lot what was going on musically and set out to produce electronic music that could break through the "somewhat exhausted post disco sound that was then competing in the local San Francisco clubs". Enlisting soul vocalist Celeste Miller, the duo were also inspired by Lee 'Scratch' Perry / Upsetters dub tracks being produced in Jamaica and created a unique breed of avant guard hybrid New Wave/Electronic Funk. With it's influences seemingly as much rooted in the past and the present as it was focused on the future; Dub Oven formed a distinct, mystical approach to music intended for the dance floor. All three tracks on this 12" embody a signature groove and an inventive synthesized abstraction to express a languishing urban unsettledness and spiritual awareness. Recorded at L7 Studios in San Francisco with the assistance of the the studio’s in house producer Marco Perry (who currently now works with Bjork) the record was unfortunately overlooked by A&R at several major and even local labels and was finally self-released in very limited quantities. Utilising analog electronics and instrumentation, the record draws on elements of dub, new wave, soul and funk to create a sound that is uncategorizable and one that was perhaps simply too forward thinking for it’s time.

Reuniting the best session musicians Japan had to offer to make an album that would evoke the atmospheres of South Pacific islands, the kind of places Japanese people spend their vacations in. Pacific (1978) is a treat to the ears; its theme of the southern Pacific ocean and its warm cerulean waters relax its listeners with a fusion of city pop, soft jazz, and that good old 1970’s funk while remaining surprisingly fully instrumental throughout all contributions from artists Haruomi Hosono, Shigeru Suzuki, and Tatsuro Yamashita. A true cult LP and an inspiration for a lot of, so called, “vaporware” music.

Release:2017 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Istanbul-based Tolga Büyük started his solo project Islandman in 2010 and has already built quite a name for himself with a slew of self-released EPs & albums. Already prominent in Istanbul’s psychedelic scene as part of live-performance band Farfara, as Islandman he builds his unique style off the rich history of Turkey’s psychedelic rock movement, taking it further in his own direction. The Anatolian tradition of fusing the country’s folk music with Western influences has produced a unique legacy of sound, as evident by the discographies of Erkin Koray and Baris Manco for instance, with the guitar long the sound weapon of choice. So too for Islandman, but apart from mastering this instrument quite eloquently, he also orchestrates it into a new and different context than merely providing hippie nostalgia. By re-framing the murky and somewhat dusty Anatolian psychedelic sound with a cool Mediterranean vibe and a very Balearic-friendly production, Islandman’s music is the next step in the progression of Anatolian music. On “Rest In Space”, his first full length outing for Music For Dreams, the LP keeps a steady pace of around 90-95 bpm, but never gets repetitive with Islandman taking us on a rich and ever surprising journey, full of quirky turns and mysterious instrumentations. The opener “Rest In Space” treats us to a funky percussion-thick rhythm that lounges into a pool of playful & jazzy horn & flute arrangements. This is followed by the epic “Night Wind” which sweeps across cinematic desert landscapes of synth layers and falls into a dark night time groove reminiscent of Nicolas Jaar & Dave Harrington’s Darkside project. “Seikleos” centers around a motorik electronic rhythm pattern (not unlike the classic electro-pop classic “Popcorn”) that develops into a chugging balearic house jam while stand out track “Future Days” brings in a female guest vocalist to complete the album with a breezy full on groover that echoes of both Sheila Chandra and Tom Tom Club. Also included is the previously released digital single “Agit” as well as a remix by Berlin-based M.RUX, toning down the heavy guitar of the original in favor of a more bouncier interpretation. The stunning “Ikaru” wades in through chunks of jungle ambiance and watery percussion to lounge along on a rubbery funk bassline, coupled with a heavy laid back beat and wobbly derelict synth figures. “Tawhid” is an odd mix of new wave brilliance and prog momentum that breaks into a cascade of pouring rain and surprising percussion breaks. Lastly comes gorgeous Eastern guitar opus “The True Word of the Wind” and the warm vibey dreamscape “Following”. As a whole, Islandman delivers a delicate buffet of influences - spanning the spectrum from hazy balearic pop to tropical new age flirts to deep spiritual psychedelic jamming.

Joe Claussell joined the MUSHROOM HOUSE series! The New York City DJ and music originator made one of his rare remixes. For the Toy Tonics series. Claussell is a pioneer. Blending African and Brazilian rhythms with Disco and House since the early 1990ies. Inspiring the music world with his labels Spiritual Life Music and Ibadan records and with his legendary Body & Soul parties that he run for 6 years with Francois K and Danny Krivit in NYC. For Toy Tonics he remixed an obscure afro funk song by German Afro - Kraut Band Karl Hector & The Malcouns and Nicolas Tounga, singer from Burkina Faso. The original song was released on a limited 7″ on Now Again records/ L.A. in 2008. Sold out for a long time. Claussell's remix is an amazing 11 minutes afrotechno jam. A great journey though styles. Also on this EP: Night Masquerade by Vito & Druzzi. Again: NYC guys. You might know the boys also for beeing part of The Rapture/ DFA. Since a few years they produce electronic music under the name of Vito & Druzzi. Part of New York's Throne of Blood crew. Some might remember their vocal contribution for Joakim's Bring Your Love. On their track for Toy Tonics they go tribal. Somewhere between Steve Reich inspired Gamelan pattern, smooth flowing over a 4/4 beat top by a nasty, 1970ies Funk synth solo that turns the whole track into a new direction. Third track is by Kapote, man behind Toy Tonics and owner of many great records with hot samples. His Besamo Fly is a 110 Bpm slow house jam - makes you think about Mexican beaches or Paris Filter House nights of the 1990ies..

Isle Of Jura’s second longplayer reissue is an album from Ingleton Falls that touches upon Ambient, Dub, House and Balearic styles and was originally released in 1991 as a limited run of 100 self distributed cassette tapes Ingleton Falls are Andy Hannam Seymour and Andy Eardley from Tyne and Wear in Newcastle. Having come from a more traditional band background originally, Ingleton Falls was their electronic project and the result of a love of acts like Dub Syndicate, African Headcharge, Gary Clail, The Orb and The KLF. Andy Hannam Seymour remembers “It was a very creative time musically, there was a lot going on around us that used new technology. I was excited by the possibilities. Up until then I'd been playing guitar with a more traditional drums/bass/guitar/vocal band with all the 'musical differences' that entailed (the two bands ran side by side for a while). I also liked the idea that you could write and record a piece of music that was ready to release yourself, rather than it being a demo or having to pay a lot of cash for studio time. That DIY aspect was a lot of fun.”The album is split into 2 parts, ‘Aware’ and ‘Unaware’. Andy explains “We decided that 'side1' and side2' were pretty dull and came up with the aware and unaware division based on a kind of enlightened and unenlightened mind kind of idea. The unaware side had the tunes with themes like necrophilia and samples of christians and the aware side was more expansive mindful themes.”Equipment used the make the album included a Cheetah SX16 sampler, Alesis HR16 Drum Machine, Yamaha FG440 Acoustic Guitar, Tokai Stratocaster Guitar and an Atari ST computer running a Steinberg Pro 24 sequencing program (from floppy disk!). Due to a lack of sampling memory sounds were added live from cassette into the final mixes. 25 years later these songs finally reach a wider audience, initially via a limited cassette release followed 6 weeks later by the 180 Gram Heavyweight LP.

One copy per customer!'Break at Home' is the collected recordings of the mysterious group '2 Katara' which was formed in Athens, Greece in 1978 by George Theodorakis (keyboards, percussion, vocals) with his close friend Dimitris Papangelidis (bass, guitars, percussion, vocals). TIP!.This musical-duo recorded quietly over a decade between Theodorakis' family idyllic home studio in the Philopappou hill of Athens and the nearby studios Theta and SR. For some part, the tracks seem like adventurous experiments or even unfinished samplers or riffs the band starts to develop, but at the same time there are productions that are clearly meant to be the backbone of an album that never came out.Into the light proudly presents 14 sun-soaked productions from the above-mentioned sterling material from 1981 until 1991 where the band split. This sixth installment is meant to be enjoyed as a journey from proggy pop to TR-909 drum driving compositions to Mediterranean disco-not-disco and further futuristic synth-scapes.The many elements from the Greek traditional folk music - especially in 'I Can Not' which is an ambient take on a folk lament song from Epirus area and the reverse play recording of a Greek orthodox priest chant on their last ever recorded epic 17min track 'Greek lady' -, the unusual but clever combinations of colorful styles and the intense improvisation put the group in the first line of Athens' best kept secrets

For the label's 50th release, Emotional Rescue returns to the music of Woo to close a trilogy of reissue collaboration albums, in A La Luna. Following Whichever Way You Are Going 1982) and Into The Heart Of Love 1990), their opus A La Luna 1991) was the last of the bands song based albums and represents a wonderful way to close this association. Reworked, re-ordered and remastered especially for this first time vinyl release, brothers Mark and Clive Ives again present their unique, ground-breaking and at the time, heart-wrenchingly overlooked music, that seems to fit the folk-new age-electronics of today as well, if not better, than when first released. Across 20 plus songs Mark's guitar, clarinet and vocals are as ever drenched in Clive's mixing desk mastery. Echo and reverb shimmer as the short pieces rise and fall like the wind blowing across nighttime trees. With no song going much beyond three minutes, A La Luna flows as one piece. The unmistaken sound of Woo wraps itself around you in an essence, warmth and glow that is addictive, meditative and uplifting. Featuring the original vocal performance of Mark's love ode, Magic In The Dark stands as a centerpiece where, as with all their albums, vocals appear at a minimum, as part of the musical journey. The underlying somber nature of the album comes as the band ended more than a decade of recording with little critical or commercial success. The fact they did not release a full album again and moved towards a more meditation outlook was a loss, however, their recent rediscovery and the excellent releases by Drag City and Palto Flats included, has finally given the Ive's brothers not just a place in appreciation, but has shown that there really is no one like Woo. Enjoy the magic.

Young Marco mines deep into the 90s era Italian house underground and strikes absolute gold... Part 2 of 2...This spring, Safe Trip will release Welcome To Paradiso, an expansive retrospective of the Italian dream house sound co-compiled by label founder Young Marco. At the tail end of the 1980s, a new take on deep house began to emerge from Italian studios. 'Dream house' drew inspiration from key U.S deep house records of the period – the spacey melodiousness of Larry Heard's productions, and the rich jazziness of tracks originating in New Jersey in particular – but sounded distinctly different. Its' 'head-in-the-clouds' feel – all rich chords, tactile basslines, fluid piano lines and starry electronics – made 'dream house' a uniquely Italian proposition.First and foremost, the style echoed the wavy, glassy-eyed positivity of the period more than any other. While music in the UK and the low countries was getting faster and heavier, Italy's 'dream house' producers continued to create music shot through with warmth and colourful musicality until 1993. While few 'dream house' records were made after then, its' sounds and loose aesthetic influenced subsequent styles such as trance and progressive house.During its' peak, dream house – or, as it was tagged by leading Italian label DFC, 'ambient house' (echoing the similarly minded work of UK pioneers such as The Orb and The KLF) – could be heard blaring from club sound systems across Europe. The style's popularity was fuelled, in part at least, by the runaway international success of "Sueno Latino".Welcome To Paradiso gathers together some of the finest examples of the style for the first time since the turn of the 90s. It includes a smattering of scene anthems – Key Tronics Ensemble's peerless "Calypso of House", Morenas's "Sonnambulism", the ambient mix of Last Rhythm's Italo-house classic "Last Rhythm" – alongside a swathe of hard-to-find, in-demand and forgotten gems. There are cuts from key players in the movement – the likes of Don Pablos Animals, Sasha (later to find fame with a strong of bouncy, piano-heavy Italo-house cuts), and Dreamatic – plus a string of lesser-known names whose contribution to the evolution of the sound should not be overlooked. Young Marco has also found space for Leo Anibaldi's "Elements", a rare deep house outing from a producer who later helped define the sound of Roman techno.Over the course of two double-vinyl compilations (and one extended digital download package), Welcome To Paradiso celebrates one of the most evocative and imaginative musical styles of electronic music's golden era. Kick off your shoes, turn your gaze skywards, and immerse yourself in the music.

The LP was originally released on the German „Reflektor Z“ label and is nowadays impossible to find. A dope electronic album that was almost entirely produced with a Roland 808 drum computer and musically ranging between minimal synth and instrumental Kraftwerk styled beats. The lyrics by Vera Vanessa De La Palma pouring on the charm and playing around with a lot of equivocation. After launching with a killer reissue of a private press gem from MorrisonKincannon, Spacetalk presents its’ first compilation: a superb selection of soul, disco and boogie obscurities curated by noted Parisian crate-digger and DJJeremy Underground.Beauty has its’ origins in a chance encounter between Jeremy and Spacetalkco-founder and Psychemagik Danny McLewin at Maceo’s, Glastonbury’srenowned backstage bar. Having completed his regular festival set – keepingthe dancefloor moving with his more familiar house and U.S garage sound –Jeremy was treating the Maceo’s crowd to a tasty selection of soul, disco andboogie obscurities. Danny was impressed, introduced himself to the My Love IsUnderground label founder, and several hours later the duo had hatched a planfor Spacetalk’s first compilation.Jeremy Underground is well regarded within the record collecting community, and counts a number of high-profile “diggers” amongst his friends. He famouslyplayed alongside Red Greg at Floating Points’ first You’re A Melody party atPlastic People back in 2013, the four-hour recording of which is still available onthe Eglo website. The Parisian is also no stranger to putting together high qualitycompilations, having previously mined his house collection for two volumes ofMy Love Is Underground on Favorite Recordings. Beauty, though, is the firstcollection to showcase the depth and variety of his record collection. Stuffed fullof rare, hard-to- find and little-known gems, it confirms the Frenchman’s statusas one of Europe’s most open-minded record collectors.Amongst its’ 15 tracks you’ll find the Creative Arts Ensemble’s spiritual soul-jazzgem “Unity”, the samba sunshine of Leila Pinheiro, the folksy, Latin-tingedbreeziness of Ron Rinadli’s “Mexican Summer”, and the dewy-eyed, late nightsoul of Nu-Cleus’s ridiculously hard-to-find “Needing A Woman”.The beating heart of the compilation, though, is a selection of heady, heartwarmingcuts that blur the boundaries between Philly soul, disco, jazz-funkand boogie. These include the sparkling, synth-laden 1981 boogie of “Do YourDance” by Shades Of Love (whose members included future ‘80s soul/discostar Meli’sa Morgan), the jazz-funk inspired library grooves of Christer Norden’s“Lay Back”, and the smooth, post-boogie soul of Richardi Mac’s superb “Told YouSo”. Oh, and “Let Love Flow” by Jamaican singer Sonya Spence, a deliciouslysweet and loved-up disco-soul shuffler infused with the distinctive swing of theCaribbean. These are just some of the highlights; repeat listens will uncover new favourites, hidden gems, and impossible-to- find cuts from the crates of one of Europe’smost celebrated DJs.

Making a debut appearance on our own Invisible EP #6 compilation last year we're very happy to at last feature a full 4-track EP from the mysterious Immaculate Rivombo. Again the music is filled with that signature sound of live African percussion and 303s but this time with additional thumb pianos, hypnotic vocals and spacey synth lines. Purporting to be from Burundi (for all we know this could be the product of an elaborate ruse emanating from Berlin tbh) the enigmatic producer (he? she? they?) has once again excelled and produced an EP that manages somehow to sound uplifting and spiritual at the same time as it is deep, dark and dubby. Whatever, the music's great and that's what matters. Definitely one to watch out for.

This 12" sees two classic tracks by the world music collective Suns of Arqa take pride of place. Incorporating elements of raga and dub, "Brujo Magic" is a much more straightforward dancefloor number than its description would suggest, with its rolling bassline and vocoder effects fusing irresistibly with its psyche-rock styles. On the B-Side, "Ananta Snake Dance" combines traditional Indian percussion and harmonium with conventional drumming to create something completely unique. A strong start to what will no doubt be an indispensable label.

Turkish mystery man Ali Kuru is fast becoming one of our go-to artists. Since joining the label in early 2016, he’s released two superb EPs, with a debut album of evocative musical blends – think dub, disco, downtempo grooves, humid exotica, and authentic middle eastern instrumentation – dropping in July.Ahead of the album release, we have decided to hand over the parts to a clutch of Kuru’s tracks to a hand picked team of remixers. Predictably, all have delivered, serving up versions that retain the essence of Kuru’s atmospheric productions, whilst taking the tracks in a variety of beguiling new directions.First to feature are cosmic disco pioneer Daniele Baldelli and production partner Dario Piana, fresh from dropping an inspired EP of their own on Leng. Their version of “Ashoka” successfully wraps feverish Persian instrumentation and vintage synthesizer chords around a rock-solid rhythm track and bold electronic bassline. The result is not so much ‘Afro-cosmic’, as ‘Arabic-cosmic’.Next up is long time friend of the label Craig Bratley, whose hypnotic, chugging interpretation of “Zurna” – all crispy snares, dubbed-out electronic motifs, exotic vocals and snaking lead lines – recalls the finest moments on his essential Magic Feet label. On the flip, you’ll find a pair of revisions from artists who made their name on Multi Culti, a label specializing in the kind of global dancefloor fusions that are near impossible to pigeonhole. First up is Nicola Cruz, who successfully transforms “Return To Paradise” via an intoxicating blend of loose cumbia rhythms, dub bass, lilting guitar lines and deep space effects. If Ali Kuru met Adrian Sherwood in Columbia for a jam session, it would probably sound a little like Cruz’s fabulous rework.Peter Power travels further towards the atmospheric depths on his version of “Lost Bedouin”. More horizontal and clandestine in town, the producer makes great use of Kuru’s haunting flute lines and evocative field recordings. The resultant remix is gentle in tone and tempo, but also ethereal in its’ druggy, early morning outlook. Like the other three tracks, it’s a very fine remix.

The Antinote guys have always been keen on introducing new names to you and this addition to the label’s catalogue makes no exception to the rule: they are pleased to present Sfarot, the debut EP from Alek Lee, a musician currently living in Tel-Aviv..The geographic origin of the artists on the Parisian imprint has never been felt as much as on Alek Lee’s debut 12”. In a very “fourth world” manner, Alek Lee brings together middle-eastern influences in his music with ease and without ever having it sounding cliché: on Harabait and Sfarot (and its dub version), his friends and him play the violin, the bass clarinet and the accordion in a way which reminds of Klezmer music, putting the three songs on the EP in line with both his musical education and his cultural background. This seems strikingly true when taking into account the process Alek Lee went through to record the tittle-track: the original material used in Sfarot comes from a recording Lee did a few years, and on which were recorded traditional songs Israeli children used to learn at school, performed by a choir of very young kids. Both conceptually and musically hypnotizing, Sfarot and its dub version take the listener on a slightly psychedelic tripas the haunted voices from the kids loose themselves in long reverbs and are backed by a wide range of instruments played by the Israeli musician including an electric organ, percussions, etc.And if you are still in need of more dubby excursions, the closing track is the one for you.

Solo album displayig a collection of foggy electronic dub meditations recorded between 2000 and 2005 by Berliner Ring member Alexander Christou under his Al Chem guise. He has previously released for Tummy Touch and was part of the Elecdrones formation on the Berlin Katzensonne label. Further output include theater and radioplay compositions. Limited 1st pressing 500 numbered 180gram tip-on sleeve. Check! In 2009, the label Art Yard sent a probe into the outer regions of contemporary electronic music, releasing Berliner Ring's "Orbital" album, a dub techno hymnal for Berlin’s orbital ring road. Drawing together the disparate elements of invented instruments, modified keyboards, customized rhythm and string machines, it was built around moods and themes drawn from the Berlin landscape. One member of the Ring, Alexander Christou, also a part of the Berlin electro rock group Elecdrones, recording for Katzensonne. The band were “not interested in the crafting of chunks of music ready to be consumed”. Christou has since been recording under the moniker Al Chem, crossing analogue and digital realms, synthesizing a kind of philosopher’s stone. As Al Chem, he released on Tummy Touch Records, and now follows with a collection of foggy electronic dub meditations recorded between 2000 and 2005 in a full album. In the battle to harness the elements, ancient mists permeated Chem’s music. A murky, mercurial humidity saturates the project. A distinctly north European descendant of dub, a kind of Seventh Seal that Bergman could have made, if provided enough hydroponic infusions. No Hopper is a rework of the Ras Michael song No Hoppers, from his legendary album, Rastafari Dub, Chem's version shuffles the pack of electronic percussion with organic, Moondog-like rhythms and hazy atmospheric chords; The Prophet pinpoints Chem's GPS firmly in Berlin, just as The Red Tower blurs that kick-drum parallelbetween reggae and house music; Baudelaire sputters digital delay, piling on the pressure, a clatter of surgical implements performing an operation out of Dead Ringers, the patient storming out of the theatre with loosely fitted mechanical body parts; the instrumental No Hopper only serves to highlight the distant gathering storm. Ladder of Perfection rounds off the set with a drone, creaking with bubbling digital mud pools

Music For Dreams is proud to announce the new album by Danish legend Dub Tractor. One of the founding fathers of electronica in Denmark in the early 90s, Anders Remmer has remained a reluctant beacon of Copenhagen’s scene ever since, with his musical legacy still a work in progress. As well as being a member of Future 3, Remmer has released material under a number of different aliases, but his most frequent guise dating back to 1994 has been Dub Tractor. Under this name, he gently crafts complex yet warm and organic electronic music that flirts with ambient, dub and IDM. With “Hello Ambient Wash”, the first Dub Tractor album since 2009, Remmer explores further the possibilities of Dub Tractor after the more pop-oriented & shoegaze-flavoured approach of his last album "Sorry". In addition to new material, the second half of “Hello Ambient Wash” presents a retrospective of hand-picked tracks from his first three albums on Flex Records (the label which Music For Dreams founder Kenneth Bager ran with Ole Mortensen from 1994 to 2007). Two "Discrete Recordings" tracks from 1994 highlight the atmospheric dub origins of Remmer’s sound, while the two tracks from the 1996 album "An Evening With.." see Remmer at his most accessible and funky. The four cuts from his seminal 2000 album "Delay" still sound as vibrant and fresh today as they did then, and perfectly add weight to this unique collection. Back on the new material, we see Remmer experimenting further with the style he has become synonymous with. On tracks like "Wow" and “Flutter”, he plays with elements of distortion and layers of sound to create an atmosphere of fragility and nostalgic haze. Loops trapped in reverse over the delicate but intense humming of lo-fi ambient noise create a sense that these tracks could fall apart at any given moment, but still push forward at a cautious pace. The melodic side of Dub Tractor shines through on the opening track "C8 90", the title track "Hello Ambient Wash", and "A7 94". Coming off as crackly old cassette recordings of some lost Southeast Asian folk music filtered through the high-tech dub engines of Remmer, the sound of the new Dub Tractor proves a heady stew of influences that still sound wholly their own. “Stay Home” echoes more the shoegaze direction Remmer took on "Sorry" with a melancholic sway which layers ghostlike vocals over muted lingering chords. While on tracks like "SIne Song" and "Ltl" Remmer truly gives cause to the name Dub Tractor, as he ploughs down tight rhythms over sub-bass frequencies and a myriad of trickling effects. Like walking through a dense rain forest of sound, drum clicks stick to your body like moist leaves - these tracks conjure the sensation of a cannabis high or an ASMR episode (google that if you don't know it). Remmer must have tapped into some masterful technology of sine wave manipulation to push the listener into these mind altered states. Bonus info: Nils Frahm is a fan.

Lovefingers heard The Atmospherian years ago on Milk Beach Settlers, a promo-only mix CD comprised solely of Australian artists, mixed and released by seminal Melbourne DJ duo and good friends Hey Convict! (Tamas Jones & Jason Evans). Tamas explained that Warp Factor 9 was a one-off project by John and Russell Kilby of esoteric post-rock bands The Crystal Set and Bhagavad Guitars respectively, and who are brothers of Steve Kilby (frontman of The Church, a prolific Australian band we’ve adored since adolescence). We had an immediate epiphany and this project was set into motion.Tamas, now living in Sydney and working with Melbourne producer Harmon under the name Carpentaria, sought out the Kilbys in an attempt to collaborate and license The Atmospherian which originally appeared on their self-released 1993 album Five Days In A Photon Belt. The idea was to unearth this lost cosmic noodle and repackage it with a couple contemporary remixes by the ESP’s Australian family members but, as is often the case, there were no usable multitrack tapes in existence. This wouldn’t be Tamas’ first time at the rodeo however, it was the same situation with Hey Convict!’s collaboration with Dominik Von Senger entitled No Name 2009, on Golf Channel Recordings. Being limited to a single stereo mix and no remix stems to play with, Carpentaria had to edit linearly and replay certain elements from scratch along with some re-recorded vocals from John. During this process, Tamas and Paul generated elements that would subsequently be used for a remix by fellow Aussie producer and prodigy Tornado Wallace. Now finally, after three years of obstacles, the ESP Institute is proud to announce this beautiful release, The Atmospherian — a celebration of a lost tune that originated, was re-discovered and re-imagined down under, but sits far left of center.

Jules Etienne is back on Cocktail d'Amore Music with Triangle Des Bermudas. Referencing the legendary region in the Western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, this EP opens up to a mysterious space of adventure and discovery. The title track is a down tempo, balearic, and mystical ballad. Sounding like a ship moving slowly, but fiercely toward unexplored territories. The toms resemble a voice coming up from the depth of the sea, the pads like fluffy clouds reflecting off the waves. Massimiliano Pagliara is on remix duty, blowing on the sails and taking the ship into a cosmic expedition. This is deep and dreamy house music with cascading string lines combining effortlessly with hypnotic drums. A driving arpeggio melts sweet and delicate with celestial strings, dreamlike vocals and breezy percussions in Cuban Omelette. While John's Job is a vivid dialogue between hand percussions, echoed toms and a sturdy baseline.

Whispered words from the ancient earth. The biosphere metaphorically battered by dusty drum machines, synth swept landscapes, industrial hooks that ring out from the barren outback. Was is das? Die Orangen are Australian-expats Kris Baha and Dreems, and together they have crafted a genre: "Krautback." Rooted in indigenous psychedelia, resonating the vast expanses of the island of Gondwanaland, turnt up by progressive cultures, and multiplied by the logic of the German mind. Hear the sound of the Southern sun melt genres, feel it flow downstream into a languid ocean of sound. Beware the punch of the red kangaroo, a bite from the deadly taipan, the neon stare in a tree-frogs eye, and the bleached siren call of the coral reef - these wild sonic reveries ominously soundtrack the future that nature has in store.

New LP from Gigi Masin, Jonny Nash and Young Marco. Highly Recommended! In the spring of 2016, Gigi Masin, Jonny Nash and Marco Sterk got together in the studio for the first time since they recorded Clouds, the critically acclaimed debut album from their Gaussian Curve project.By the time they reconvened in Sterk’s new studio in Amsterdam, a stone’s throw away from the temporary, second-?floor space where they recorded Clouds, much had changed. When they first got together in March 2014, it was for a spontaneous, weekend-?long exploration of shared musical passions. They were merely three new friends expressing themselves, and having huge amounts of fun in the process.By the time they got together again last year, the album they recorded on that famous weekend had taken on a life of its’ own. To their surprise and delight, Clouds had become one of the most admired ambient albums of the 21st century. They’d initially reconvened in the studio to rehearse for their first live performances. It soon become clear that all three members were brimming with ideas for new Gaussian Curve material. Over the four days that followed, and fuelled by the same spontaneous working method that drove Clouds, a new album began to take shape. Although their methodology remained the same, the inspirations were different. Whereas Clouds was intimate by design, The Distance reflects more on spaciousness, distance and time. It is instantly recognizable as a Gaussian Curve record, but feels different in scope and tone. The Distance is a different musical beast to its’ predecessor, but shares the same timeless, emotion-?rich feel that made Clouds such a hit. While the fundamental ingredients remain the same – Masin’s masterly piano and synthesizer work, Nash’s blissful, meandering guitar

Spending time amidst the insects, rice fields and scorching sun, the pair gathered a library of found sounds which were then taken back to a studio space to be stretched, mangled and manipulated alongside a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments. The outdoor studio itself became a living instrument, with the duo setting up multiple microphones for durations of up to 12 hours around the space, layering and processing the results in tracks such as “Fauna Mapping” and “A Series Of Small Frogs”.

An alternate version ‘Anambra River’ appears for the first time on the same 12”.

Artist Susana Estrada was during the late 70s and early 80s one of the leading figures of the “Destape”, a period in Spain when sexual openness and freedom of thought exploded just when the country was coming out of a dictatorship. Besides acting in lot of movies and musical plays, Susana as a singer also released a few 45s, cassettes and one LP, “Amor y Libertad”, produced by the great Josep Llobell, which is now regarded as a Cosmic Disco classic. From that album, we’ve selected two tracks for Side A of this 12”, “Gózame ya” and “Quítate el sostén”. For the B Side, we’ve included three edits in a nu-disco & cosmic vein by producers James Rod, Javi Frías and Mr. Absolut aka Sergio Peña.

Emotional Response starts 2017 with a mini-album of ambient-equatorial enlightenment by Australia's mysterious Tropical Hi-Fi. The final record from an artist appearing on the label's first SchleiBen series, this also points to the future. Based somewhere in the far flung Northern Territories, the music of Hi-Fi's pre-incarnation Electric Egypt was first discovered via the note-worthy airwaves of L.A's outstanding Dublab radio station. As the wonderfully diverse internet shows and project's dense, hip-hop inspired collages came to fruition with 2012's Exotica release, a dual awareness and sporadic contact was maintained whenever a signal could be established with Hi-Fi base camp. As the SchleiBen series was formed, the studio-DJ-cut-up-mix of Oceanic Mythology was warmly received as an inspired counterpoint to the dense offering from Don't DJ. These first real solo recordings from the Hi-Fi crew - whoever he/she/they maybe - moves on from the cut'n'paste of Electric Egypt to seek a meditative vision. Ambient, drone and field recordings are all part of a drifting tropical flavour that encompasses the listener. Music truly inspired by it's surroundings, this is not some music journal, flying in to sample a life and it's sounds, but the real, living entity and it can be heard deep across the 8 short pieces. None is more typified than Tahiti Blue, where fellow traveler Mike Cooper layers his ubiquitous steel blues over simple, lilting drums. Mixed by Leaving Record's Matthewdavid (with whom more to come on the label in 2017), photography by Native Finger and the ever-present encouragement of friend and neighbour, Ariel Kalma, this is conceptual album to lay back, drift off on undulating swells and simply, let go to.

The eye of the storm: welcome to Tornado Wallace’s debut album! The accumulation of about four years of work, with tracks written in Berlin and Melbourne, ‘Lonely Planet’ is nothing like you may have expected from the Australian expat. No stranger to fans and followers of ESP Institute, Beats in Space and Music From Memory’s sister Label Second Circle, Tornado Wallace’s strain of releases so far merged functionality with a musical playfulness that led him to find himself as one of the producer’s behind José Padilla’s International Feel album. Here, he leaves the needs of the dance floor behind in order to create a magical mystery tour de trance into his and our inner jungle. How about some references? New Age sounds meet new wave melodies, Grace Jones runs into the Dire Straits at Compass Point, while a Korg Mini Pops and a Roland CR78 make amends for Sly & Robbie’s absence, Michael Mann pictures Joseph Conrad’s ‘Heart of Darkness’, Robert Rauschenberg tries his luck at naturalism and an imagined Wally Badarou echoes through all of it. Sandwiched between the title track and the yearning beauty of the album’s final point ‘Healing Feeling’, you get all of that as well as collaborations with and contributions of NO ZU, David Hischfelder and the voice of Sui Zhen on ‘Today’, who would easily make Anna Domino take her proverbial hat off. Tornado Wallace created an album that supersedes the requirements and expectations of a debut. Like a lost Island Records or a never released Made to Measure album, ‘Lonely Planet’ soundtracks notions and ideas that recall the nostalgic future in the past as much as it looks ahead.

ADESSO, the new sublabel of Disco Segreta, is proud to open his catalogue debuting with the first Gino Pavan album in 40 years! 2017 has been a very important year for italian multi-instrumentalist Gino Pavan: the first ever 12" vinyl re-release (Disco Segreta DS M 003) of his lost 1980 "Magico" 45 has been an indie-dance success, marking his decision to finally step out of the shadow and open his vaults, where the music that he keeps on recording since then still sits, but never saw the light of the day until now."Absolute" is a full-on contemporary electronic "concept album", entirely written, composed and played by Gino. Eight tracks, where Gino explores the multiple dimensions of the concept of the absolute, experimenting on guitars, synthesizers, electric sitar and percussions, on a 30 minutes journey into darker territories. With every sound originally crafted by Gino in his studio, and a compilation of videos created as a visual companion for each track, "Absolute" sheds a light upon the music he always wanted to release, revealing his erudite background as a musician/composer.

With the label’s 10th anniversary celebrations now done and dusted, Claremont 56 returns to action with something rather special: a magical debut single from a previously unknown talent. There’s not much we can tell you about Ferdi Schuster, other thanthat he is a talented young producer from Augsburg in Germany. As Claremont 56 is one of his favourite labels, he speculatively submitted some tracks for consideration. Label founder Paul Murphy was astonished by what he heard and believes the two tracks showcased on this 12” are amongst the best things the label has released for some time.A-side “Little River” is breathtakingly good. Opening with the sound of a babbling brook, it sees Schuster wrap plucked, sun-kissed acoustic guitar licks and jaunty vintage synthesizer motifs around a languid, samba-influenced groove. As the track progresses, further magical musical elements come to the fore, including blissful electric piano solos and more mazy synthesizer solos, seemingly played on battered old equipment from the turn of the ‘80s. Schuster’s love of the acoustic guitar is explored further on similarly impressive B-side “Befreit”. Here, gently strummed chords and fluid Spanish guitar motifs catch the ear, as hushed cymbals and gentle hand percussion lap at your feet like the sea at sunrise. The German producer adds atmosphere through a combination of leisurely Hammond organ solos and a touch of Jew’s Harp. When all of these immaculate elements combine, the results are little less than spellbinding.Schuster may be taking his first steps into releasing music, but his compositional, playing and production skills are already finely tuned. We can surely expect to hear more inspired music from him in the years to come.

For starters: to pin down and value Andrew Weatherall's musical deed takes more space than available in a press release text but here is some of many highlights. As a producer, Weatherall has since he first shook the foundation for modern pop music with ground breaking and genre bending remixes of Primal Scream (Loaded), My Bloody Valentine (Soon) New Order (World In Motion) and many other influential acts, continued to push sounds in to unknown territories. His importance as a musician is as big, with bands like the iconic Sabres Of Paradise and Two Lone Swordsmen in the 90's and top quality solo records from the 00's up till today. With the above In mind, Hoga Nord Rekords are proud to announce the release of Andrew Weatherall new album Qualia! This album fits perfect in to the Hoga Nord - Catalogue, which shows clearly already from the opening track Evidence The Enemy. This song is a monotonous yet uplifting piece of music, a case that holds for the album in full; Weatherall lets the melodies, built on a deep tradition of classical music and later developed by bands such as Kraftwerk, go in major scales, which lets fresh air in and creates a feeling of freedom. The music put you on top of Mont Blanc to overview the complete European music history. Qualia is soothing, harmonic and transporting.Within his framework, Weatherall knocks those frames out of place from time to time. When a song goes to much in one direction a new melody or a new instrument steps in to redirect and surprise the listener. This album is the perfect soundtrack to a road trip inside your own, ever-changing inner landscape.Andrew Weatherall contributed strongly to form the music of the nineties; club music got an injection of rock and roll and vice versa. Now the legacy continues with the release of Qualia on Hoga Nord Rekords.

Stefan Schwander aka Harmonious Thelonious is definitely not a newcomer. He has been around for a long time and has already released lots of amazingly varied music on labels such as Emotional Response, Italic, Meakusma and Diskant. He’s also an integral part of the infamous Duesseldorf / Salon Des Amateurs axis that is an obvious hotbed of talent. He describes his style as "American minimalism vs. African drumming vs. European sequencing", a heady mixture which is clearly evident on this EP though with a definite Middle Eastern twist. Here at Versatile HQ we were introduced to this clutch of tracks by one of the members of Acid Arab and we were totally blown away. Stefan has a very unique production style, fusing all of the above elements with a hint of Gamelan, a dash of tweaked FM synthesis type sounds with a dose of warm ambience and finally his own singular touch on the mix. We are very happy to present you these 4 tracks to you, an essential EP from one of European music's true originals.

After a couple of releases for the label, including notable remixes, plus the excellent recent 7 for Hoga Nord Rekords, Jamie returns to warm glow of Especial for a collective vinyl only EP of 4 unreleased remixes brought together for limited release. Opening is his dark, brooding rework of See You In The Dark from Sexy Merlin's 2012 cassette only release Heater. Taking the 2mins + plus original and feeding it through modular and space echo environs, this long form remix has been alighting dance floors whenever aired. Throbbing bass and phased, twisted vocals pull the track deeper, all with that neu-wave touch that has become Jamie's hallmark whether sought or not! Next Jamie turns to the Eastern melodies of Guy Schalom. The drummer and percussionist first came in to Paton's orbit via his partnership within Cage & Aviary and his remix here strips the original to his affinity with dub and bass. Horns rise and fall, driven by snare and guitar in a unique reversion of a version in the truest es)sense. Roots and vulture y'all. The B-side heads back deep with his wonderful remix of Gatos Negros's Overdrive. Taken from the bands 7th Life album on Spain's Rotten City, the interplay with arpeggio, bass and vocals shows why Jamie has his own unique following. Closing the EP sees a return to a relationship first seen via Cage & Aviary's remixes of Blancmange in 2014. A mutual admiration achieved, the band requested a special remix of their rerecorded 1982 classic Feel Me. Jamie rebuilds the track with a nod to it's past, his own sound and also, as a final homage to nights remembered at the Brixton HQ years of World Unknown, where the original was such a highlight. Here comes a love song.

Emotional Response continues it's fifth year celebrations in welcoming two of the label's long held favourite artists Jefre Cantu Ledesma and Alexis Georgopoulos coming together perfectly for an album of laconic story-telling and atmospherics. Over the past decade, Cantu Ledesma and Georgopoulos have been frequent collaborators. With one another Jefre's recent ""On The Echoing Green' (Mexican Summer), Arp's The Soft Wave (Smalltown Supersound) and The Alps Le Voyage (Type) and with others. Jefre has worked with Grouper (aka Liz Harris), filmmaker Paul Clipson and has released music by Harold Budd, Oneohtrix Point Never and Keith Fullerton Whitman on his Root Strata imprint, while Alexis has worked with visual artists Tauba Auerbach and Doug Aitken, scored dance for Merce Cunningham, choreographer Jonah Bokaer and made liminal classical music with Canterbury composer Anthony Moore (FRKWYS 3 / RVNG Intl.). In all of their projects, the two have always been masters of atmosphere. Veering between romantic abstraction, filmic ambiguity and suggested narrative, their music draws on personal and collective memory, letting things surface. Fragments Of A Season represents a new and distinct chapter in their ongoing work together, continuing this lineage of understated but resonant work. Arising from conversations wherein each revealed that they'd been working on tracks with a similar feel in mind, the two quickly realized their songs fit together quite effortlessly. The goal was to do something immediate and spare most songs simply use an old drum machine and a few chorused guitars, featuring live performances with minimal editing. The result, and indeed the goal of the project, was not to make an album that would simply sounds like what one would expect of the two there are no modular synths or sequenced basslines, no motorik rhythms or overdriven distortions. Rather, to pursue a tangent of simplicity and clarity. The result is an album of warmth and cool, sparse but evocative, earthy and luminous, narrative and abstract, taking influence from Les Disques Crepescule and early Cherry Red artists the duo also cite Eric Rohmer's A Summer's Tale and the photography of Luigi Ghirri, whose image graces the cover. Song titles provide narrative hints. As does New York-based writer Leigh Gallagher's short story enclosed within. Each song finds the story advancing on the beach (""Marine""); at a discotheque (""Madagascar""); sleeping in the afternoon (Mirror The Sky). Memory of cobblestone streets and a recent relationship (""Cleo"", The Streets Are Filled With Rain). A sense that this temporary idyll will end casts a shadow. Ultimately, for reasons unclear, it does (""Lost Summer""). There is the sense that a distinct arc has taken place. On some faraway beach, the buildings are white, the skies and sea turquoise. Waves rise and crest. A shaft of light crosses an empty room. A discotheque can be heard in the distance. A mist burns off. Over the course of the ensuing astral summer weeks, an encounter sets the world known previously in relief. Days stretch out and the nights hum.

Following celebrated compilations from Motor City Drum Ensemble and Young Marco – and with the second edition of its limited-capacity festival in Croatia right around the corner – Dekmantel’s Selectors series now continues with an edition curated by Marcel Dettmann.Although he’s now known as one of the world’s most celebrated techno artists, even Marcel Dettmann had to start somewhere. Long before he ever held court at Berghain (or its predecessor, Ostgut), he was just another young boy in Eastern Germany, one whose earliest encounters with capitalism involved spending every penny he could scrape together down at the local record shop. In those days, it wasn’t techno that got him excited, but new wave, post-punk, industrial and EBM acts like Front 242 and Depeche Mode“It’s music from my childhood,” says Dettmann. “It’s still relevant and still inspires me.” That inspiration can be heard across this edition of the Selectors series, as Dettmann has put together what he describes as a “pre-techno compilation.” Much like the previous Selectors editions, the compilation is not a mix CD, but a collection of tracks hand picked by Dettmann from his own vinyl archives. Freshly remastered – and occasionally reworked or re-edited by Dettmann himself – the songs here are undoubtedly vintage gems, but they also represent a very personal journey into Dettmann’s past.“It was a great opportunity to dig deeper into my own musical outlook,” he explains. “The tracks come from a time before Marcel Dettmann became a DJ.” Simply put, the songs here are some of the building blocks upon which he’s built an incredibly storied career, and now he’d like to entrust them to future generations.

Oliver Ho's Broken English Club project delivers 12 tracks of decayed electronics and metallic techno finding a very fitting home on Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. imprint. TIP!Titled, "The english beach" the album is a sonic portrait of the strange and barren east coast town in england, called dungeness. Known as the only desert in the uk, abandoned buildings and wreckage litter the landscape. Overlooked by a nuclear power station, it feels lost in time.Created during time spent staying in a converted old fog singal building, situated right on the seashore of this desert landscape, this new album is the next step in the project, following the suburban hunting lp released on veronica vasicka's label cititrax.Exploring the empty concrete soul of this english beach, the Twisted metal ruins and crumbling buildings are drenched in dread and drip with a very english desolate romance. Dungeness is almost the physical manifestation of the broken english club sound. To compliment the album, oliver has compiled a book of Photographs of the area that also features burroughs inspired cut up word collages.

Over the years, Phil Mison has become the go-to selector for those looking for Ibiza-themed compilations. None of his previous collections, though, have been quite as personal as Out Of The Blue, a compilation inspired by his first spell behind the decks at the Cafe Del Mar in 1993 - and the remarkable chain of events leading up to it.Mison made his first trip to Ibiza in the summer of 1991 and quickly fell in love with the magical music being played by Cafe Del Mar resident DJ, Jose Padilla. On his return to the UK, Mison began to cultivate his own take on the laidback, open-minded style, recording mix-tapes of Ibiza style chill out tunes to give to friends. In November 1992, Mison was hanging out in Tag Records, Soho, when Padilla walked in. He plucked up the courage to speak to the Spaniard because earlier that summer Mison had given one of his friends some tapes to take out to Jose in Ibiza so he wanted to see if he had got them. During the conversation Mison invited him down to his next DJ set at Nicky Holloway's club, the Milk Bar and less than three months later, and clearly impressed by what he'd heard on the tapes, Padilla invited Mison to fill in for him at the Cafe Del Mar, beginning in April '93.It's that first trip to DJ in Ibiza - a crazy six-weeks spent dividing his time between spinning records at Cafe Del Mar, hanging out in Jose Padilla's house in the hills, and meeting some particularly eccentric White Isle residents - that proved the inspiration for Out Of The Blue. The compilation contains a mixture of records that Mison played in his earliest Ibiza sets, those that remind him of that period, and recent discoveries that boast a similarly warm, loved-up vibe. Mison is at pains to point out that it's not a track-for-track representation of his first sets, but rather a collection inspired by this most momentous of experiences. As you'd expect from a selector of Phil Mison's standing, Out Of The Blue is an outstanding collection. Some will no doubt hear the influence of his mentor - the man he credits with effectively turning his DJing career around - in the undulating rhythms and new age melodies of Kamasutra's Sugar Step, the meandering synthesizer solos and Spanish language vocals of Congarilla's sublime Sacred Tree, and the lilting flamenco guitars of Gambarra, an unreleased mix from Mison's popular Cantoma project.Elsewhere, listeners can marvel at the starry ambient bliss of Belgian legend Frank De Wulf's The End, recline to the saucer-eyed fusion jazz of the Christoph Spendel Group, shuffle along to tactile, hard-to-find period deep house from Language, Moodswings and Don Carlos, and marvel at The Cactus Rose Project's ridiculously rare Jelly, a sparkling, disco-era jazz-rock outing partly inspired by the Doobie Brothers' Long Train Running.Out Of The Blue may well be a very personal selection of tracks celebrating a moment in time, but it's happily one that we can all enjoy.

Fellow earthlings, cast your gaze skywards. If you’re quick, you might see Earthboogie’s intergalactic cruise ship coming in to land. While they’ve been DJing around London and beyond with their custom built Quod sound system for some time, the Mr Mystery EP marks their debut appearance on Leng Records. It’s the first time the fruits of their studio labours, recorded in the space they call The Control Room, have made it onto vinyl.Izaak Gray and Nicola Robinson’s musical vision is delightfully hard to pigeonhole, but is arguably best summed up by their self proclaimed dedication to all things “intergalactic, cosmic, tribal and terrestrial”. Some may draw clear parallels with the Afro-cosmic work of Italian pioneers Daniele Baldelli and Beppe Loda, where rock guitars, disco riffs, vintage synthesizers and heavy African drum rhythms are all thrown into the musical melting pot. On the A-side, you’ll find “Mr Mystery”, a bongo-laden chunk of hypnotic, low-slung voodoo disco full of haunting flute lines, flanged funk guitars, heavy drum machine kicks, impassioned yelps, cascading chords and crunchy clavinet lines. It’s an intoxicating, early morning trip that achieves a near perfect balance between thrusting danceflooor heaviness and head-in-the-clouds daydreaming. Things get even steamier on the flip, where the intergalactic, Afro-disco hustle of “Route Ten To Interzone” ushers aboard Earthboogie’s star-bound cruiser. Built around an irrepressible groove – think restless electronic bass, hard-wired disco-funk guitars and layered tribal drums – the track surges forward on a wave of chanted vocals, spacey synth solos and irrepressible disco flourishes.“The E.B Theme”, a kind of aural call to arms, completes a fine first foray into music production. A little looser, hazier and deeper than the rest of the EP, the tracks is propelled forwards on waves of dreamy chords, lilting trumpet motifs, spacey electronics, tumbling disco guitars and a bassline that recalls the early days of Chicago deep house. It’s a wonderful end to a notably impressive debut 12”.

Infusing south egyptian singing, laid on endless percussion grooves, Violins, Sax and more. Jakam produced a track that both echoes the past and forsees the future, making our linear concepts and understanding of time irrelevant and obsolete, letting the dancer drift away in his mind to a world where ancient Aswan songs and drum-machine beats complete each other in harmony .... Pinkman stoke the furnaces of despair, fuelling them with Black Merlin. Conveyor belts grunt out resentment, cold chords curl, synthlines sneer and pallid percussion punctuates. Noise echoes above, hammered clanks exploding into shards. Below the work continues, sweat smeared stains and hissing airless gasps. In the end, all is swallowed; gulped into the gaping assembly line.

Despite a discography that stretches right back to the late noughties, little is known about Turkish producer Ali Kuru. Perhaps he’s publicity shy, or simply wants to let his music do the talking; either way, the music he makes is magical, and undoubtedly worthy of wider acclaim. Kuru came to the attention of Leng late last year, releasing the Luna 12” – his first vinyl release for six years – in January 2016. That EP boasted two typically exotic and fragrant tracks, both of which effortlessly joined the dots between dub disco, hazy house, gentle downtempo movements and snaking, Middle Eastern instrumentation.

Danish label Music For Dreams releases another winner with the debut album from Danish artist Emil Breum aka The Swan And The Lake. "Moments" showcases Breum’s talent for creating exquisite and sensitive soundscapes whose timeless atmosphere echoes contemporary classical composers as well as some of the more New Age-minded artists of the Berlin School. Although mostly known as a spiritual movement, New Age also spawned a musical ideology that lives on past the clutches of cults and communes: a purity in sound, and a longing for music to reflect the sounds of nature. "Moments" captures this essence perfectly, its compositions seeming to suspend time and prolong a sense of clarity, like staring out over a beautiful landscape at sunset - both a sobering and healing experience.Opening both sides of the album are collaborations with guitarist Anders Brandt who provides a beautiful groove alongside Breum’s motionless ambient states and "Dive" has become an established favorite in many DJs’ sunset playlists in Ibiza this summer. Also included is Moonboots’ (of Manchester’s Aficionado) pick "Moments of Lost Swans", a gorgeous modern Balearic track full of melodic marimbas. Another highlight is the string-based "Bright Lights" which plays out in in three parts - an electronic intro glides into Breum’s moody piano chords and finally drops into an emotional string ending that feels like a cross between Michael Nyman and Nils Frahm. The New Age upbeat feel of "Waiting For Spring" gives it the air of a forgotten Cafe Del Mar classic - emotive keys, reverbs, marimbas, pianos make a memorable and unique track. Breum also supplies the photo for the front cover of the album, an image borne of his desire to capture special moments of day and night, just as he has done with the mesmerising musical landscapes on this stunning debut. Limited vinyl edition.
