A Dream Sails Out To Sea (Get At The Wave)
LP | 1987 | EU | Reissue (Lag Records)

Release:1987 / EU – Reissue
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Recorded in 1987 as promotion for a luxury air conditioning line, Takashi Kokubo’s Balearic gem A Dream Sails Out To Sea gets first ever official release from Lag Records, complete with previously unheard music.Originally only available as a sought-after promo by the name of Get At The Wave, Takashi Kokubo’s mini-masterpiece of halcyon mastery finally re-emerges for the first time since 1987 with a remastered vinyl edition courtesy of UK label Lag Records.A Dream Sails Out To Sea (Get At The Wave) comes not only with a new title, but also a brand new B-side as taken from Get At The Wave’s original recording sessions. Never-before released, the epic Ocean Breeze makes the perfect companion for the sonic world Kokubo created with his original release, imbued as it is with the same serene sense of understated beauty. The original story of A Dream Sails Out To Sea is as interesting as Kokubo’s own backstory as a musician and sound artist. Originally composed to ‘soundtrack’ a high-end air conditioning line from Japanese electronic giant Sanyo, the album was meant to transport the consumer into a paradise far away from the heat and hurry of urban life. One listen to something as splendorous as Underwater Dreaming, and it’s mission accomplished.Takashi Kokubo meanwhile is a musician whose work, without many knowing it, has perhaps touched the most lives in Japan. Composer of environmental music such as nationwide phone alerts to warn of oncoming earthquakes, and the fruitful jingle of a standard contactless payment, Kokubo’s oeuvre also includes anime soundtracks and works in the avant garde realm. It is with Kokubo’s blessing and original masters that the Lag Records release has been made possible, with a remastering courtesy of Jerome Schmitt at the AirLab. A Dream Sails Out To Sea (Get At The Wave) also comes with new artwork by Ella Mclean in a standard sleeve on clear blue vinyl LP.

Only one copy per customer! The late Hiroshi Yoshimura, a pioneer of Japanese ambient music. Yoshimura was involved in a wide range of fields, such as sound design for public installations, graphic design, visual poetry, free improvised performance (using his own body) and inventing his own instruments, right up until he passed away in 2003.The seven songson this album were created for a fashion exibition held at a warehouse in the Tokyo bay area. He released it on cassete tape on Japanese label ‘Fukusei Gijutsu Kohboh” ran by Yoshio Ojima who produced the album.Referring to the Loft: "As the time goes by, the Loft that was swept away ( forgotten) from the City but it somewhat has a look of a " City of Ruins" that reminds you of something you have forgotten. Something nostalgic. Sounds from the City and the vast landscape gave me a great opportunity to take a fresh look at Tokyo." says Yoshimura.Referring To the Pier: His look towards Tokyo bay takes on the shape of sonic particles....tickling down gently while tinged with change. A landscape of Seven Sounds. This is the first-ever vinyl release, 34 years after it's recording. The sleeve image is the same as on the original cassette release.

Contrary to the songs name, this interpretation of a traditional Afro-Brasilian candomble song, appears to be forged from mythical lost amazonian gold.Recorded in Sao Paulo with an allstar cast of Arteria FM (on vocal duties), Salvador Araguaya (caressing the Viola Caipira) & Spaniol (stroking the Baixo), steered by Nicola's production prowess, this quartet delivers a melodic enhancement to the summer sun.As if the sun wasn't shining bright enough already, the single comes backed by a remarkable remixer ensemble procured from their duties as fellow sun-worshippers:Xique-Xique's Dragonfruit Mix is a wondrous journey full of surprising leaps and bounds, alternating between hypnotic electronics and organic song structure. Saving the best 'til last he raises the energy whilst keep the beats low and the vibes ecstatic. HIT !Crussen's creamy cocodub raises the energy whilst concentrating on a dubbed out groove, (that) classic Crussen bassline and carefully sliced & re-appropriated vocals. Finally in-house poster-boy Carrot Green's Granola mix combines disco, deep grainy bassines, juicy bells and signature flourishes into a bowl of magical mind-whirling hip-spinning edible sex.

Release:2017 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Copenhagen’s Music For Dreams comes with yet another strong release - a double album of personal favourites compiled by Jan Schulte.According to all maps and witness accounts, Germany does not officially have any tropical forests. This is of no concern to Schulte however, who has unearthed many stunning examples of tropical drum music recorded there. Perhaps the number of botanical gardens and palm houses in Germany confused musicians into mistaking the climate, or maybe it was just a happy blend of escapism and multi-cultural integration within musical scenes that spawned such a curious output of undefinable tribal folk jazz. Most of the tracks picked by Schulte were released on small labels in the late 80's. The musicians involved were mainly traditionally schooled, born and raised in Germany. At that time to be interested in foreign folk music might have seemed a gimmick to some, what with the emerging "world music boom" already snowballing into the mainstream. But these songs, while they may be based on musical traditions from foreign lands, deal much more with introspection than exploitation. Schulte himself points to his "generalfascination for music that describes places where the artists have never been. Songs about the jungle or the rainforest made by people that know the rainforest only from television and books. Somehow I think you can hear their mythical imagination and fantasy in those tracks," he explains. We certainly hear it in the extensive use of wildlife samples on both "Tagtraum Eines Elefanten" by Argile and on "Wuhan Wuchang" by Total Art Of Percussion. Or on the repetitive and trace-inducing drum circle re-enactments of Ralf Nowys "Akili Mali" and Bob Moses’ & Billy Martin’s "Boat Song Part II". And while Austrian band Sanza stands out with their interpretation of the traditional folk song "Sounouh", many of the inclusions take an avantgarde stance towards their visions of the tropics. The works of Om Buschmannand Trimopen seem to convey the stark and feverish nature of the jungle and its dangers, without relying on clichés. And while there is certainly a European approach in the production techniques on many of these recordings, the artists created something beyond all templates. In fusing folk music traditions from various corners of the world with avant-garde jazz improvisation and a distinctly European sound, they carved out a path of their own.Düsseldorf-based Jan Schulte has been following this path with his own productions in the past years. During the present resurgence of tribal influences in underground dance music, his recordings under the alias Wolf Müller and Bufiman have stood out as the most interesting, funky and mindblowing within this niche. With the compilation "Tropical Drums Of Deutschland" for Music For Dreams, Jan Schulte re-traces this path to its origins. With the inclusion of two exclusive edits he also engages and re-examines thesetracks and incorporates his own musical expression into the mix.

Jindřich Parma originally created this record as a studio project on his own 'Parma Productions' label in '91. The release was the debut of the musician 'Karya', and although the singer has become fairly prolific, 'Muž Ze Skla' (The Man Of Glass) remains an anomalous release in her catalogue. In fact, the song never actually featured the singer we know as 'Karya' today, and was solely the experiment of Jindřich and Company. With a balearic house sound that never really had a parallel in the country, this remains a truly unique Czechoslovakian record. Reissued for the first time on a 12".

The new album from George Clanton is finally here. Even though the new Esprit LP just came out November 2017 (ESPRIT 空想 is another moniker of George Clanton), this album "Slide" has been in progress for over 3 years. Pulling from a much larger cache of influences, "Slide" effortlessly slips between genres throughout, even multiple times per track, while still sounding grounded. "Slide" is proof that George Clanton cannot make an experimental album. This is a new form of pop music - simple and nostalgic, and at the same time fresh and exciting. -Written by George Clanton about himself

For the third volume of compilations curated by confirmed crate diggers, Spacetalk invites you to take a trip to the magical Mediterranean resort of Club Meduse in the company of Beachfreaks Records co-founder Charles Bals. A creative director, designer and curator by trade, Bals spends the majority of his spare time searching for superb, unknown, small-run music releases made between the 1970s and 1990s. While some of these are made available for other enthusiasts to buy via Beachfreaks’ mail-order service, many more make it into the racks of Bals’ private collection. With Club Meduse, Bals is sharing rare, hard-to-find and just plain brilliant gems from his personal stash for the very first time. For Club Meduse, Bals was inspired by countless magic childhood summers spent playing amongst the rocks, beaches and warm seas of the Cote D’Azur. The compilation, then, is a soundtrack to the greatest soft-focus, sunlit teenage summer holiday you’ve never had, with a gaggle of forgotten musicians and overlooked artists for company. Take a barefoot stroll from the campsite to the beach with Ara Macao, whose warm and lucid “Canyon” is a softly-spun delight, before splashing in the crystal clear waters to the accompaniment of The Clean-Hands Group and their 1984 Balearic blue-eyed soul gems “Night Fly” and “Shake It On”. As the sun comes down, clamber across the cooling rocks with the tumbling, sun-kissed guitar solos and sparkling analogue synthesizer motifs of The Keyboys’ leisurely “Savannah” ringing in your ears, before using the words of Gemini’s “Take A Chance” – undoubtedly the most Balearic record to emerge from Sweden in the last 50 years – to get flirtatious under the moonlight. Should you fancy a dance down the camp disco, Bals’ selections will gently ease you onto the dancefloor and into the gaze of the boy or girl of your dreams. The fuzzy Italo-boogie of the C.V.Q Band’s “Whatever You Do (Instrumental)” will get you going, while Miss’s 1984 French electro gem “Hip Hop” should guarantee a celebratory conclusion to the night’s party. No perfect holiday evening is complete without a stolen kiss in a secluded cove, and happily Bals has it covered. Check the seductive, dub-powered Balearic synth-boogie of Gigi Flag’s brilliant “Nymphomaniac (Instrumental)”, the steamy sweetness of Bals’ own edit of The One “O” Ones “Radio Cosmo 101” – possibly the greatest tune recorded to promote an Italian radio station – and the undulating electronic rhythms and exotic synthesizer lines of Eddy La Viny’s overlooked ‘80s zouk classic “Havan’ Havac”. Another essential Compilation from Spacetalk records!

Finally, this great record gets a nice re-press!Music From Memory’s latest release in their 12” series focuses on the little known UK band The System. A project masterminded by Bob Lamb, a somewhat cult figure in Birmingham's music history; the short lived group released only one album ‘Logic' and a single in 1983 on the somewhat obscure French label ‘Romantic Records’. This distinctively forward thinking new wave/synth pop album met with poor distribution and with almost no promotion to speak of at the time and quickly dwindled into obscurity. The albums sense of technological exploration, outstanding production value coupled with the band’s gift of writing deeply emotive, yearning pop tunes, make it sound though perhaps more relevant today than many other far more successful albums of its time.

For each release, Kay Suzuki works alongside one co-curator to reinstate and repackage the music they hold dear into perfectly restored historic artifacts. For the first release, brilliant corners regular and Meda Fury signing Ryota OPP curates the reissue of Il Guardiano Del Faro’s 1978 album Oasis.Born 1940 in Milan, Federico Monti Arduini was a child prodigy who studied piano and was already performing at concerts from the age of eight. He composed pop songs for other artists which sold millions of copies, but his own solo success came after he encountered synthesizers in the early 70s. Viewed as a precursor of New Age sound art, Arduini was one of the first producers in Italy to use the Moog synthesizer and a meeting with Bob Moog in New York only added to this obsession. He was also an early adopter of the tradition among electronic producers to use a moniker to disguise his identity. Il Guardiano Del Faro (translated as “the guardian of lighthouse”) is a nod to the small Italian fishing town Porto Santo Stefano, where Arduini created his studio in the mid-70s. He produced a number of albums from this seaside idyl of electronic instruments and tape recorders, but Oasis stands out from the pack. Released in 1978, it became a cult classic for its experimental sounds and emotional expressions. Spiritual synth sounds cover the album in a dreamy haze, oscillating between ambient and psychedelic. Sparing deployment of the Roland rhythm box gives dance floor favourites ‘Disco Divina’ and ‘Oasis’ touches of space disco and even teases proto-house elements like the great Sun Palace.“The passionate and dramatic sound of Il Guardiano Del Faro made me fantasise about so many romantic aspects of Italian culture. Oasis is sonically more interesting than his other albums and these exotic, eccentric rhythms sound quite familiar to the modern music fans.” Ryota

The Idjut Boys and Laj (one of Ray Mang man Raj Gupta’s lesser-known aliases) were once regular studio partners, laying down a series of now legendary dubbed-out disco and deep house releases on the former’s U-Star label during the mid-to-late-90s. Now one of the trio’s lesser-known gems is returning to record stores for the first time since 2002, courtesy of Claremont 56. “Slateo” first appeared on the 2002 Session Recordings label compilation Solidsession Vol. 2, the CD version of which was mixed by the Idjuts and also contained a fine cut from Akwaaba, a band whose members included future Claremont 56 founder Paul “Mudd” Murphy.Built around undulating bongo beats, fireside-warm dub bass, outer-space chords, delay-laden guitar flourishes and spacey jazz-funk synth solos by regular collaborator Pete Z, “Slateo” sits somewhere between warm-up gold, late night bliss and early morning release. In true Idjuts and Laj fashion, it boasts epic amounts of reverb and dub delay, as well as the kind of enveloping production that’s always been a hallmark of their collaborative work.16 years after the track first slipped out, it’s appearing on a single-sided 12” single, pressed to gorgeous green and white vinyl. With only 350 copies available worldwide, pre-orders are recommended.

The spiritual and uplifting music of Clifford White is highlighted with two of his most sought after songs, taken from his 1989 album The Lifespring, and presented here in a special extended 12" for the first time. Starting in music production at just 15, White could be described as a protegee, however his take is that they were part of a music journey that continues today. With a centre found in electronic music and spirituality, his progress, from simple home use 4-track stereo to working in professional 16-tracks studios was swift, but matched by a deeper appreciation, greater confidence and wider palette of music styles. Utilising his love of early samplers, his first use of the Akai S612 to accompany and expand his keyboard recordings saw continued development from his debut album at just 17 with Ascension1985), to the follow up Spring Fantasy1987) and on to The Lifespring1989). A small review in the local paper literally led to a knock at the door and offer of a deal from the StartState Of The Art ) label to record his next album. With a subsequent advance, professional studio equipment was hired and out of these sessions his sound expanded to include ambient, orchestral, synth pop and even ballads. From this both Lifestream and Rain Trek emerged. With a love of Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene in mind, Lifestream's smooth beginning soon gives way to the pulse of an arpeggio driven groove. Aiming for "relaxation with an edge", the track has become a secret play for the more Balearic minded DJ in the decades since and now sees the LP trade for dizzying sums. However, the original is achingly brief, gracefully fading as part of the album's journey. Here though, with DJs and collectors in mind, White returns to the song to craft a specially extended version that completes the song and will be appreciated at sunsets across the globe. Seeking to take the music and listener to another place, Rain Trek took White's interest in Sci-Fi and the mystic powers of water to a rightful conclusion. The healing nature of his music is apparent, the mystery, yearning and travelling, all emotions evident, but with a kick that will grace the more enlightened dance.

New LP from Gigi Masin, Jonny Nash and Young Marco. Highly Recommended! In the spring of 2016, Gigi Masin, Jonny Nash and Marco Sterk got together in the studio for the first time since they recorded Clouds, the critically acclaimed debut album from their Gaussian Curve project.By the time they reconvened in Sterk’s new studio in Amsterdam, a stone’s throw away from the temporary, second-?floor space where they recorded Clouds, much had changed. When they first got together in March 2014, it was for a spontaneous, weekend-?long exploration of shared musical passions. They were merely three new friends expressing themselves, and having huge amounts of fun in the process.By the time they got together again last year, the album they recorded on that famous weekend had taken on a life of its’ own. To their surprise and delight, Clouds had become one of the most admired ambient albums of the 21st century. They’d initially reconvened in the studio to rehearse for their first live performances. It soon become clear that all three members were brimming with ideas for new Gaussian Curve material. Over the four days that followed, and fuelled by the same spontaneous working method that drove Clouds, a new album began to take shape. Although their methodology remained the same, the inspirations were different. Whereas Clouds was intimate by design, The Distance reflects more on spaciousness, distance and time. It is instantly recognizable as a Gaussian Curve record, but feels different in scope and tone. The Distance is a different musical beast to its’ predecessor, but shares the same timeless, emotion-?rich feel that made Clouds such a hit. While the fundamental ingredients remain the same – Masin’s masterly piano and synthesizer work, Nash’s blissful, meandering guitar

After launching with a killer reissue of a private press gem from MorrisonKincannon, Spacetalk presents its’ first compilation: a superb selection of soul, disco and boogie obscurities curated by noted Parisian crate-digger and DJJeremy Underground.Beauty has its’ origins in a chance encounter between Jeremy and Spacetalkco-founder and Psychemagik Danny McLewin at Maceo’s, Glastonbury’srenowned backstage bar. Having completed his regular festival set – keepingthe dancefloor moving with his more familiar house and U.S garage sound –Jeremy was treating the Maceo’s crowd to a tasty selection of soul, disco andboogie obscurities. Danny was impressed, introduced himself to the My Love IsUnderground label founder, and several hours later the duo had hatched a planfor Spacetalk’s first compilation.Jeremy Underground is well regarded within the record collecting community, and counts a number of high-profile “diggers” amongst his friends. He famouslyplayed alongside Red Greg at Floating Points’ first You’re A Melody party atPlastic People back in 2013, the four-hour recording of which is still available onthe Eglo website. The Parisian is also no stranger to putting together high qualitycompilations, having previously mined his house collection for two volumes ofMy Love Is Underground on Favorite Recordings. Beauty, though, is the firstcollection to showcase the depth and variety of his record collection. Stuffed fullof rare, hard-to- find and little-known gems, it confirms the Frenchman’s statusas one of Europe’s most open-minded record collectors.Amongst its’ 15 tracks you’ll find the Creative Arts Ensemble’s spiritual soul-jazzgem “Unity”, the samba sunshine of Leila Pinheiro, the folksy, Latin-tingedbreeziness of Ron Rinadli’s “Mexican Summer”, and the dewy-eyed, late nightsoul of Nu-Cleus’s ridiculously hard-to-find “Needing A Woman”.The beating heart of the compilation, though, is a selection of heady, heartwarmingcuts that blur the boundaries between Philly soul, disco, jazz-funkand boogie. These include the sparkling, synth-laden 1981 boogie of “Do YourDance” by Shades Of Love (whose members included future ‘80s soul/discostar Meli’sa Morgan), the jazz-funk inspired library grooves of Christer Norden’s“Lay Back”, and the smooth, post-boogie soul of Richardi Mac’s superb “Told YouSo”. Oh, and “Let Love Flow” by Jamaican singer Sonya Spence, a deliciouslysweet and loved-up disco-soul shuffler infused with the distinctive swing of theCaribbean. These are just some of the highlights; repeat listens will uncover new favourites, hidden gems, and impossible-to- find cuts from the crates of one of Europe’smost celebrated DJs.

A joyous, uplifting ode to love in all it's forms, the trials and tribulations and ultimately the triumphs are all encapsulted in Woo's unique soundscapes. Of all the myriad of released and unreleased Woo recordings, Into The Heart Of Love is without a doubt their most complete and cohesive body of work. Full of Woo's quirky analogue dub electronics, there is also a very English sense of folk. With more vocals then their other albums, the structure and softness of mood quintessentially comes from the Mother Isle. Mark's guitar craft is at its most expressive, entwined with subtle bass, a breadth of clarinet and touches of piano. This is all mixed and merged beautifully with Clive's now recognisable desk and synthesiser mastery. As individual as anything you'd hear coming from the Black Ark. More peaceful and uplifting than Whichever Way You Are Going, You Are Going Wrong and encompassing than It's Cosy Inside, the album presented as Into The Heart Of Love is exactly that. Drawing you into it's swirls and layers upon layers, slowly wrapping you in it's own special, spectral soundcape. It is love indeed that permeates throughout. Again and again the titles lead the way, but it's more than that. The lilting hopes, joy, optimism and peace expressed in songs like When Your Find Your Love, Sarah and The Heart Of Love show Woo in all their glory. Of all Woo's songs and craft, their best is all included. The simplicity but detailed interplay between the two brothers is as telepathic as imagined. Pushing and pulling together to represent a wondrous album. Of course, it had to be. It's Love.

Claremont 56 continues to champion new, previously unheard talentwith “Ready To Die”, the stunningly beautiful and catchy debut fromBel AKA Charlie Bell – a young, Liverpool based singer-songwriter,musician and producer who has a huge future ahead of him.“Ready To Die” is an emotion-rich chunk of catchy, loved-up Balearicpop with heart-aching, gut-wrenching lyrics about unrequited love,Bell’s debut is as catchy, infectious and heartfelt as anything the labelhas released to date – as proved by Lauren Laverne’s decision tochampion the record on her BBC 6 Music show.Such was his love for the song, Murphy decided to remix it for release, completing extended vocal and instrumental versions that enhance thetrack’s sun-kissed, glassy-eyed appeal. Both mixes are magical, withthe vocal version in particular capable of making the hairs on the backof your neck stand to attention.Bell’s impassioned vocal and breezy acoustic guitar playing naturallytakes centre stage, with the track’s sweeping synth-strings, toastybass and a few trademark Murphy flourishes – think well placed delaysand fluid electronics – on hand to amplify the song’s bittersweet mood. The beautiful and beguiling quality of Bell’s musicianship and Murphy’ssubtle remix comes to the fore on the equally beautiful instrumentalversion.

Almost exactly a year after his first EP on Byrd Out (the Kiyadub EP), the legendary Andrew Weatherall returns with new material for a second release. Andrew invited a mate round to his studio to try out a Les Paul his friend was looking to buy. As it turns out, his mate was Ride's (and Oasis') guitarist Andy Bell. Anyway, Andrew suggested he test the guitar out over a track he was working on, and ‘Making Friends With The Invader’ is the resulting track, which Andrew paired with the EP’s title track ‘Blue Bullet’. Both tracks plough the trippy, cosmic dub furrow, and come in at a weighty 8 and 9 minutes plus. 1000 vinyl only, and 200 cassettes. Grab them while you can! Mastered by Noel Summerville. It's time for magaritas. Dresden's master of the sampler Alexander Scharf chops up cheesy germanness for greater good and varying experiences: Schlager-upcycling it is. »Nur mit Dir« is a lovely summer day's theme, the anthem of freshly found or long lasting love, the hymn for the night with your loved one. »Ode an die Fröbbe« is the morning after. The morning after the morning of too much togetherness: Honestly weird and weirdly lovable. In the end »Grünalge Christian« keeps it all together.

Following on from Angophora's beautiful long player, Ken Oath is back with another full length LP from Low Flung. Friends of the label will note that this is his third release for Ken Oath, and it's a fittingly mature and expansive statement for a debut LP. Perhaps mature is the wrong word here, as all his brilliant ideas are backed up by a sense of whimsy that betrays his playful side. The music strikes a balance between styles and spaces that could perfectly soundtrack moments at home, in the club, and in the liminal spaces between.Danny's efforts at writing dance music still contain the idiosyncratic approaches of his ambient works: The deadly deep subs and endless echo spirals on "Rising Damp" sounds like someone trying to piece together a Drum & Bass track after an off-hand conversation about the genre. He's transmuted the propulsive energy of jungle into something no less dynamic, full of stops and starts and sonic pressure but flush with space. "Tarp Climber" is at heart a rollicking digi-dub.The more ambient moments of the LP are equally captivating - the glassy tones of "Frozen Coat" sound like a space-age ensemble soundtracking a floating lounge on a suite of glass instruments, while "Ocean Grove" blends field recordings and dreamy synthesizer melodies to create an uncanny sense of place that unroots you from wherever you're listening. There's a heavy emphasis on Danny's collaborators as well - the Cold Emotion duo is reprised on the spacey ‘Hills Hoist’. Closer "Bacchus Marsh" is a collaboration with Prophets, a cross-state ensemble that defy any easy categorisation. The music here flirts with jazz and minimalism but with a dubwise production aesthetic to produce something that recalls Khan Jamal's visionary "Drum Dance to the Motherland" in spirit and practice, but this whole album sounds as otherworldly and one-of-a-kind as the aforementioned LP.

Spoki (Ghosts) is the sound of an artist putting their private world to tape. Of exploring and pushing the limits of themselves and technology to realise the music in their head. Recorded in Riga between 1988-2011. As Ingus Bauskenieks himself explains: My own world differs a little from my friends' tastes. And - as my father said - the collective art is not art at all.The music of Ingus Baušķenieks is both deeply private and completely alien. Experimental yet happy to celebrate pop influences such as Engelbert Humperdinck, Simon & Garfunkel or Fleetwood Mac. It is shaped by the artist’s engagement with technology and his strive to put to record his ‘own world’. As Ingus explains, it is the sound of him: “doing what I like to do.

Compilation of the works by MJ Lallo, weird harmonizing mantras layered with drummachine rhythms.. Very psychedelic compositions where she uses her voice to create all kinds of sound(scapes)Take Me With You is a revelatory voyage through the captivating universe of voice artist and poet MJ Lallo. The works on this 2LP compilation were all recorded in her home studio between 1982 and 1997, primarily using drum computer, synth and her own voice processed through a Yamaha SPX 90 digital effects unit. They range from wordless harmonizer mantras and primitive drum computer meditations, to psychedelic latin dance-floor anthems and synth-drenched end-of-the-nighters. Lallo has created her own inimitable galaxy of sound where the human voice, liberated from the constraints of language and abstracted using digital technology, is able to explore the outer realms of human expression, like Joan La Barbara with an Eventide and a new-age sensibility. Although Lallo’s flight path is distinctly her own, her journey converges with other travellers as diverse as Jon Hassell, Laraaji, Stereolab, William Aura, Laurie Anderson, Meredith Monk, Gertrude Stein and even Terry Gilliam (whose film Brazil was a big influence on Lallo). Like something beamed in from another planet, Lallo’s work is both fascinatingly strange and strangely familiar, and will leave a lasting impression for lightyears to come. Double gatefold LP, remastered DDM pressing.

Last time we heard from the Growing Bin, Basso sat at the water‘s edge, trousers rolled up, toes in the tide, savouring a Falanghina while Eleventeen Eston went with the wave. Now we move from the shoreline to the ocean shelf, led on an underwater adventure by young Parisian Shelter. Where previous releases have seen the synth-obsessed Frenchman take his inspiration from Caribbean rhythms or Balearic attitudes, this marine missive sees Shelter turn to the lavish world of the library, creating an alternate score to Jean Faurez’ 1960 documentary short.More submersible than snorkel, our journey begins in the very dark of the deep, mystical harp trills echoing through the inky blackness, picking up the bioluminescent shimmer of an Abraliopsis Squid. Gradually we make our way into the light, cruising past shoals of silver scales and underwater forests. ‚Immersion’ offers a placid, percolating rhythm and billowing pads, providing sonic symmetry for the dancing leaves, while the spheric soundscape of ‘La Vie A L’Ombre’ bubbles away like an underwater volcano. The optimistic ambience of ‘Plenitude Azotee’, brimming with delicate melody and glistening sequences, perfectly captures the wide-eyed wonder of a reef dive, before drifting into the serenity of ‘Parade’, an aquatic acquaintance of A.R.T. Wilson’s ‘Overworld’. A brief foray into shark fin funk sees out the A-side, before we’re back amid the beauty of the ocean floor; ‘Variation Abyssale II’ echoing the album opener but with even more poetry. The exotic and otherworldly sine waves of ‘Dans La Jungle De Varech’ simultaneously sound like a rainforest canopy, alien landscape and coral microcosm, expanding our horizons nicely ahead of the adrenaline rush of ‘Hors D’Haleine’. Shelter then sets us at ease with the tidal tonality and subtle shuffle of ‘Fumeurs Noirs’, a sublime synthetic suite, then leaves us to marvel at the soft focus splendour of ‘Synthii Outro’.This is Jules Verne by way of Vangelis, just grab your goggles and take the plunge...(Patrick Ryder)

Bad technology. Missed calls. Broken languages. International timezones. Fourth world fantasies. Late night conversations - these are just some of the elements that combine to make 'Elixir Of Immortality' one of the most compelling records you will hear all year. It's 'ambient', it's 'jazz', it's 'electronic' - but not as we know it. In fact, it's everything all at once, in one huge psychedelic, synthesised burst of colour and sound. Distant rhythms jostle for position in the dense fogs of melody and dub, dislocated voices and instruments weave in and out of the mix and we eventually find ourselves surrendering to the sheer sonic beauty and complexity that greets us when the smoke clears. There's no point in trying to studiously navigate the verdant, psycho-geographic terrain that the cosmonaut Mårble is busy terraforming with his unique blend of musical expressionism, it's better to let the winds carry you further downstream and open yourself to possibilities. Dip your toes in. A truly special collection of music from the furthest reaches of the other side of St.Petersburg, curated with love and care by the ears and minds behind Nummer. In our most private moments, we have often thought of Multi Culti as an educational enterprise: as you listen to our music and stare at our artwork, you are absorbing information in a way that might conceivably be defined as "learning." Our latest release brings this theoretically reasonable fantasy one step closer to fruition, as we welcome Hamburg-based musician and composer Andi Otto (Ph.D) to our roster of artists.A deep listening experience focused on repetition and timbre, Bow Wave was made using rare and unique instruments such as a special sensor bow for cello (and other string instruments) known as the "Fello," which Otto developed during his residencies at the STEIM research centre in Amsterdam. The album also features vocals from award-winning Indian playback singer, actor, and TV anchor M.D. Pallavi, a frequent Otto collaborator, recorded while the two were touring Japan. The digital edition of Bow Wave includes 10 tracks, while the six-track vinyl adds remixes by Ecuadorian folklorica wizard Nicola Cruz and Parisian "adult disco" purveyor Golden Bug, both of which will be released separately in a digital remix pack alongside reworks from Brazil's Ricardo Vincenzo and Norway's Center of the Universe. Uji spins a hypnotic spell of sounds on his debut solo release; “Alborada”, joining the canon of recent producers re-imaging world sounds within the realms electronic music – think Auntie Flo, Nicola Cruz, Clap! Clap! And Populous. Yet his music has thoughtful nuance and textural depth, exploring a rich organic palette of sounds that will easily appeal to fans of Nicolas Jaar, Pantha Du Prince and John Talabot too.“Alborada” pays homage to the moment where the darkness and the mysteries of night transform into new possibilities with the first light of daybreak. Electronic production and alchemy never felt so close; creating an infectious enchantment that feels ancient at its core while exuding a futuristic quality.Having been born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised throughout Latin America – the album reflects his experiences in both the Latin American and Afro-Latin diasporas, Uji´s enchantment seems to suspend time, encompassing the present while drawing from primal essences ingrained in our collective unconscious, enrapturing us in the ritual of dance. On tracks like “La Descarriá” featuring Corina Lawrence and Miss Bolivia, Uji skillfully crafts scenes from the high plains of Bolivia in their yearly carnaval celebrations before transporting us to Colombia’s tropical “pueblos” (villages) - dancing into the sweaty night on his remix of Petrona Martinez’s “Mariangola/Milagros” and then to daybreak in a Berlin warehouse on “Kiok” featuring Barrio Lindo. Nothing of Uji’s experimentation feels arbitrary, rather carefully woven into multi textured landscapes of sound, where a thought out process is palpable behind each track. Most of the sounds on the album are field recordings done by Uji himself, compiling a vast sound bank over the years on his global travels, including a wide array of instruments from his collection such as; congas, cununo, marimba, balafon, charango, bombo leguero, sonajas, as well as analog drum machines, samplers, synthesizers and vocals. A multi layered assemblage with deep and rich textures from around the world.

Limited edition vinyl! Only one copy per customer! Growing Bin burst into 2018 with a bang, crash and symbol splash, uniting a premier pair of percussion obsessives for a supernatural mission into the heart of the rhythm.Dressed in the pitch black of Dusseldorf stands Wolf Mueller, master of the tropical drums and seven time Salon Des Amateur breakdance champion. Repping Cologne and Berlin is Niklas Wandt, Germany’s funkiest drummer and a mixed musical artist as adept in experimental jazz as demented Eurodance. Standing toe to toe in a no holds barred, no drum unstruck groove contest, these two titans will make you swing your pants like a Crash Bandicoot victory dance... so stretch out and step into ‚Instrumentalmusik von der Mitte der World‘.Taking to their task with the joyful abandon of two big kids getting creative with the Kindergarten music tray, Müller & Wandt marry dripping electronics, Froesean pads and rubber-limbed basslines with tribal polyrhythms, C2 claps and Indonesian shakers - and that‘s only on the A1. Comprising of three trance-inducing epics, a handful of medium-sized movers and a couple of freeform interludes, this dynamic double pack could almost pass as a lost Library masterpiece; but our mind guides go Furthur, fusing esoteric funk and free-jazz freak-out a truly transportive experience. Prepare to enter a world of techno totems and neon skulls, shades of Yello and excellent birds. Within these grooves lies a transdimensional pathway between the Temple of Doom, the Twilight Zone and De Palma‘s Paradise, brought to life in a shamanic rite.Forget the healing frequencies of Growing Bin‘s ambient outings, this time we‘re dancing for mental health.

Music From Memory's final compilation of 2017 sees the release of the double album “1 by 1”, which brings together the works of American experimental musician Geoffrey Landers. During a period spanning from 1979 to 1987, this Denver, Colorado based multi-instrumentalist, composer, record producer and engineer, conceived several solo albums. Only two of these, “The Ever Decimal Pulse” and “Habitual Features” along with the single “Breedlove” were ever released on vinyl. .Being heavily involved in the local industrial/punk/new wave scene and wanting to create a recording studio “available to record artists regardless of their financial circumstances” Landers set up “The Packing House Studio” in 1981. This analog 8-track recording facility was located in a former slaughterhouse in the stockyards of Denver and was a place of significant activity for the next three years with the studio releasing recordings from numerous artists most notably Allen Ginsberg. It was here that Geoffrey Landers also started his own aptly named “Cauhaus” label. Indicative of the underground/DIYculture, “Cauhaus” was a subsiduary of a label called Local Anaesthetics which was started as an in-store label by independent Denver record store Wax Trax. Typically Cauhaus releases were only pressed up in small quantities and independently distributed, making Lander's music essentially elusive to a wide audience. After relocating in 1984 to an art district of Denver Landers opened the “Cauhaus Institute of Recording” studio where he continued to produce music for soundtracks, art and multi media projects for the next three years, after which Landers stepped out of the music industry entirely. He currently creates and exhibits mixed-media glass art.Throughout the twenty tracks of "1 by 1", of which six previously appeared on CD only, we are submerged into a wide diversity of musical approaches from Geoffrey Landers. From the proto-house track “Logarhythms” and the heart breaking New-Wave Boogie/Funk of “Say You’ll Say So” to the more contemplative pieces such as the oriental insprired “Nisei” and the drenched in sunshine dub/reggae track “Mack” Landers shies away from musical expectations again and again; searching continually for innovative and new forms of expression.

Few artists can claim to have their own distinctive “musical voice”: a style of composition and production that listeners instantly recognize. For starters, it takes years of experimentation to perfect, and most people simply don’t have the patience, talent or skills to pull it off.Ali Kuru is one of those rare producers whose music sounds like nothing else around. The Istanbul-based artist has spent the best part of a decade honing his trademark style – a fragrant and intoxicating aural brew that combines a myriad of influences with atmospheric field recordings and snaking, mind-altering Middle Eastern instrumentation – via releases for the likes of Luxa Flex, Kalisah, Sound Architecture and, most recently, Leng. It’s to the latter label that the publicity-shy producer returns with his most ambitious release to date, Egzotik. 15 tracks and 70 minutes deep, it’s not so much a debut album as a statement of intent. From start to finish, it feels like a humid, sweat-soaked saunter through the winding streets of Istanbul in the company of a musician who draws more inspiration than most from his immediate surroundings. Those surroundings come to the fore on opener “Bazaar”, where tipsy horns and gently strummed electric guitar passages slowly rise above the sound of a harbourside market. They’re present, too, within the souk rhythms and cascading pianos of “Zorba The Greek”, beneath the gentle throb of “Lost Bedouin”, inside the spaced-out, stargazing pulse of “Hiyar”, and around the chiming melodies and mournful strings of hushed ambient closer “Adios”.Kuru’s genius lies in his ability to take familiar musical tropes and twist them into unique, Ottoman-inspired shapes. So, while “Tangerine Dream” doffs a cap to the stretched-out hypnotism of the legendary krautrock band of the same name, its reliance on backwards drum hits, locked-in grooves and psychedelic sample loops is a far more contemporary proposition. Some may hear the influence of Detroit beatdown in the slow and dubby house grooves of “Le Voyage De Space”, while others could describe the drowsy “Ashoka” as being Weatherall-esque. Yet none of these tracks, layered as they are with traditional Balkan, Persian and Arabic instrumentation, sound like anything other than Ali Kuru productions. The result is an album that surprises and enthralls in equal measure. Highlights come thick and fast, from the bubbling, dub-house psychedelia of “Mount Damavand” and haunting deep techno humidity of “Sacred Vallley”, to the Augustus Pablo-in-Ankara shuffle of “Jungle Flower” and potent hookah hit of “Return to Paradise”, where sampled voices rise above a typically tactile groove.

From two releases, they’ve been described as “pared back 1980s comfort pop for all occasions”, having “a whole lot of criss-crossing rhythm”, containing “swirling synth flourishes, languid wistful vocals and strutting drum machines".The album’s songs explore the theme of “house or home” and what that means in present day Australia for different people. They journey from an aboriginal tent embassy on the south coast of New South Wales, a retirement village, a one room flat in Ringwood and a sleepless 17 hour stop over in Malaysia.

He released a handful of dancefloor-focused EPs (mostly on local label National Techno) at the dawn of the decade, before retreating to the shadows to experiment further in order to develop his own trademark sound. Last year he resurfaced via a track on a two-part vinyl compilation It’s this exotic new direction – inspired, Denis says, by his desire to join the dots between psychedelic disco, Balearica and tribal rhythms – that’s showcased on the producer’s Claremont 56 debut, which also marks his first solo vinyl excursion. Both tracks are underpinned by gentle, undulating tribal rhythms, and include sounds and melodies crafted by the producer on kalimba, vargan and some of the small native instruments that form part of his growing collection of such items.A-side “Sunset Sparks” is a thing of rare beauty: a dreamy, humid and tropical excursion in which fluttering flute melodies and delay-laden African vocals gently rise above slowly-shifting chords, psychedelic electronics and a synth bassline so squeezable that you could use it as a stress ball. Denis’s love of bold synth basslines is also evident on flipside cut “Boma”, a slightly bolder and more polyrhythmic excursion whose sparkling melodies, fuzzy guitar motifs, Jew’s Harp lines and foreboding aural textures create a quietly trippy mood. Some may note the influence of Jan Schulte’s Wolf Mueller project, but Denis has crafted a mesmerizing signature sound all of his own.

Almost three decades after he put out his first record as one half of Tummy Touch twosome Tutto Matto, Paulo Guigliemino continues to produce effortlessly brilliant music that joins the dots between vintage disco, boogie, proto-house and sun-kissed Balearica. For proof, just check the heavyweight dancefloor sunshine that is “Bella Topa”, his first release on Leng Records.Slow, sensual and blessed with all manner of delay-laden drum machine percussion hits, the track fixes the producer’s usual colourful, boogie-era synth flourishes and ear-pleasing instrumentation (think fluid electric pianos, fluttering flutes, eyes-closed jazz guitar solos, lilting saxophones and spacey electronic chords) to a chugging, head-in-the-clouds groove reminiscent of Lindstrom and Prins Thomas’s early collaborative work. “Bella Topa” cleverly shifts shape several times throughout, utilising jazzier rhythms and bolder melodies to light up key moments.Remixes come from Guigliemino’s old pal Federico Marton, a producer best known for being one half of sometime Get Physical, Superfiction and Snatch Recordings artists Italoboyz. He lays down two distinctive revisions, starting with a “Slow” club reconstruction that adds additional percussive heaviness and sparkling electronics to Super Paolo’s twinkling, sun-baked original. His other version, a “Fast” club reconstruction, drags Guigliemino’s track towards peak-time dancefloors kicking and screaming. Making the most of his friend’s killer groove and finding sufficient time and space for each life-affirming musical element to sparkle, his mix bobs, weaves and eventually soars for 12 mesmerizing minutes. The mix, like his slow version, makes use of additional percussion and wisely gives more prominence to the A-side’s spacey electronics and boogie-influenced synthesizer flourishes. The results are little less than breathtaking.

One per customer please! Seemingly drawing from a slightly different well of influence from that seen across their prolific back catalogue, the Aarhus duo – going by the less common shroud of Palta & Ti – have hereby woven together a stylistically varied yet tonally concentric 3 track EP. Having produced a wealth of some of the most lovingly referential and consistent music of recent times, the tracks making up “Palta og Ti på den Tolvte Ø” are slightly harder to pin down to exact genre markers. Each song is busy yet never overcrowded with elements; building concise and playful grooves which if forced we would say positions them somewhere in the ambient space between jazzy-improv-house and dubby, hypnotic electronics. That’s as absolute in adjectives as we would ever care to be...Expertly crafted both technically and musically, we are more than excited to be able to present this to you as our fifth installment

Five years ago, while on tour in Japan, Claremont 56 founder Paul “Mudd” Murphy heard Pan Electric featuring Pops Mohamed’s “Sweet as Rain” for the very first time. It was, he says, one of those “moments” that only music can provide. Over the years that followed, Murphy found himself returning time and again to the dreamy and alluring composition, which had been released on a couple of CD only compilations. So, at the tail end of 2017, he got in touch with Pan Electric producer Matt Coldrick to see if he could give the track a vinyl release for the very first time. Happily, Coldrick agreed, and the magical original version – backed by an extended remix set to appear on the next Pan Electric full-length – will finally be appearing on wax.“Sweet As Rain” can trace its roots back to a trip Coldrick made to Ethiopia in the late 1990s to work on the soundtrack to a charity film, Teme-T-Teme, which was made to raise awareness of problems surrounding “street children” in Ethopian cities – often orphans who had fled the countryside for a better life. While out there, Coldrick set up a temporary studio and made field recordings of local musicians performing traditional songs. These naturally made it onto the film’s soundtrack, but also into a new composition Coldrick was working on some years later following a visit from legendary South African musician Pops Mohamed. During Mohamed’s visit, the pair jammed ideas around an acoustic guitar riff; Mohamed provided kalimba and percussion, with Coldrick adding rich electric piano parts and typically tactile production. With the addition of elements of Coldrick’s Ethiopian field recordings, “Sweet as Rain” was born. Today, it sounds every bit as magical, loved-up and dreamy as the day it was recorded. For this Claremont 56 vinyl edition, Coldrick has also delivered a fresh Album Version that stretches out the track’s sunrise-friendly majesty to ten marvellous minutes. Naturally slower to build with greater emphasis on showcasing the track’s various instrumental elements, its arguably even better than the near peerless original version. Certainly, Murphy approves – after all, who wouldn’t want to bathe for longer in its vivid aural colours, horizontal dreaminess and life-affirming Ethiopian vocals?Since “Sweet as Rain” was first released, Coldrick has donated half of all royalties generated from the track to Charity: Water, a voluntary organisation dedicated to improving access to clear water in some of the world’s poorest countries. Coldrick will continue to donate royalties from the vinyl release of “Sweet as Rain” to support the charity’s work in Ethiopia.

When No Pussyfooting was released in 1973 by two great pioneers like Eno and Fripp, that first whisper of their artistic association surprised many critics and fans. Yet, that kind of minimalist ambient sonority carried out by the two appeared in the ear like something absolutely new and innovative. Although nowadays we might be more accustomed to creative operations of this type, we are still fascinated, while listening, by the still possible achievement of relevant moments of musical epiphany, however distant we might be from that first eminent combination between keyboards and guitar which concerned electronic experimentation. Something similar occurred in this new collaboration between Riccardo Sinigaglia and Maurizio Abate; two generations in comparison, whose research developments unfold in the handful of different conceptions and experiences. Their music does not own a pre-defined structure; it receives its ultimate reason from the progressive and continuous metamorphosis of sound. It’s all the result of spontaneous sessions, during which a predisposition towards an active trance procedure, sustained by complementary flashes of lucidity, prevails. The dominant atmosphere is entirely oneiric, perpetually doubtful, still not linked to the passive remote unconscious: it rather reminds of lucid dreams, of phosphenes, of eidetic visualizations that belong to Tibetan tradition.

After more than 30 years Early Sounds and Halfway Ritmo are finally releasing unpublished recordings (1982-1989) from former Tangerine Dream and Iggy Pop's drummer Klaus Krüger.Advanced Dance combines a sweeping mix of Krüger's handcrafted acoustic drums and distinctive electronic sounds of the late Berlin-School years, creating a unique blend of advanced polyrhythms. Krüger achieved a balance between creativity and classic drum patterns giving birth to an unconventional and avant-garde type of music that could be easily defined as a precursor of techno. His progressive mentality led him to delve further into the tape collage technique and unique ways of triggering his drums. It was a whole new world of music - sustained by his artistic surroundings, which included collaborations as well as friendships with other influential artists such as David Bowie, Martin Kippenberger and Helmut Newton. In the time of German division, the pulsating West Berlin became a melting pot of creativity and international encounters. Advanced Dance is the result of the blazing heat feeding the unstoppable thirst of discovery which characterized that generation, creating tunes that transform the listener's experience into one blissful moment amidst beautiful confusion.

Inoue Shirabe, Raphael Top-Secret and more... Gatefold Sleeve. TIP! .Made of 14 sketches - each reflecting one of the many shades of the label’s catalogue - Five years of Loving Notes features new names as well as those of artists who have been involved with the label since it’s very beginning, like Geena or Iueke - responsible for the first 12” released on Antinote. The music on this compilation covers a wide spectrum of moods and atmospheres, from the dark and raw excursions from Tolouse Low Trax or Iueke to the lush instrumental crafted by Nico Motte and Syracuse’s Antoine Kogut; however as the listener gets deeper into the compilation, the whole of the tunes, sitting side by side on the records, start to make sense as they all seem to point towards the same direction. If one should try isolating a common trait from all these songs, one might come to the conclusion that it lies in the way they all speak directly to the listener’s emotional receptors, unvarnished and without abusing of producer’s “tricks”.We’ll let the tricky question mentioned before in your hands once you will have been through this 63-minute long testimony of exclusive music by the artists who have been shaping Antinote’s sound for five years; from the opening Latvian arabesques from Domenique Dumont to the Pink-Floyd-ian ending from the latest addition to the label, Alek Lee, via Leonardo Martelli’s smoggy electro and Raphael Top Secret’s ominous talk-over.

This is warm, friendly, relaxed music, very “understandable” and yet intriguing, sure to appeal to fans of electronic ambient, dub and chill-out music, as well as artists like Haruomi Hosono, Captain Ganja, La Monte Young, Equiknoxx and Tapes. The Osaka-based 7FO combines groovily sparse electronic percussion with similarly sparse dub-feel synth bass, as well as pentatonic synth and steel pan melodies, the latter with an intriguing Okinawa/Sunda/Malay feel. Sparkling dub-influenced processing and thoughtful mixing gives us a music which is trans-oceanic, warm, and enveloping. Following releases on RVNG, Bokeh Versions and Metron, 7FO's new album Ryu no Nukegara is available on LP and CD, featuring a suite of four tracks and the 20-minute title track, whose titular dragon is Asian: a potent symbol of water, strength and good luck. “Subtle, playful. Softly spoken yet speaks volumes. This is powerful stuff! The absence of music like this is what made me start producing...” —Jackson Bailey/Tapes “Fairy-tale of dub new-age heaven. It turned out there was another matter that he wanted to discuss: finding a final resting place for the Bruce Haack archive. We were shown test-pressings of The Electric Lucifer board mixes from his Columbia studio sessions, countless pieces of written music, a large number of personal photos, an invitation from Raymond Scott inviting Bruce to play his newly created Electroniuminstrument (now owned by Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh), poems, press clippings, and, most importantly, a heavyduty shelf containing 213 reel-to-reel tapes. All of the chosen material on The Preservation Tapes is unreleased, has only been heard by a handful of people and showcases a relatively unknown period in Bruce’smusical career where Bruce was recording for Sparrow Records (who billed themselves as "America's best Christian music record label”). Bruce’s signature Farad vocoder continues to feature prominently, but the lyrical content is decidedly more religious. The Bruce Haack archive is now resting in the Provincial Archives of Alberta, in Edmonton,Alberta, Canada.

The story begins in 2006. That summer I developed somewhat of an obsession with Tonto’s Expanding Head Band after having seen them perform at the Big Chill festival that year. The music blew my mind. Later upon my return to civilisation and the ensuing 'research' which then began in earnest I became as much blown away by the enormous T.O.N.T.O. (The Original New Timbral Orchestra) modular synthesizer that had created the music as I was by the music itself. Built in the early '70s, it's still the largest synthesizer around today. With the live show still resonating in my head I tracked down everything Tonto had ever recorded. One of these tracks was an obscure outtake from the time T.O.N.T.O.’s creators, Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff, were producing and engineering for Stevie Wonder in the ‘70s(https://youtu.be/wuaSzFf7yq0). The track, Bittersweet, only ever appeared on a highly limited self-released CD put together to coincide with their appearance at the Big Chill. Consequently I featured it on a few mixes I did over the years and invariably I’d be asked “what’s that track?” by those with an ear for something unique. And invariably these same people, many of them DJs, would turn away disgruntled when I informed them it was CD only. Although I didn't know it at the time, the seed was definitely sown for this vinyl compilation that you now hold in your hands.I first contacted Malcolm Cecil in 2015 not long after Invisible, Inc. had launched with a proposal to putting the track out. There was always the question of what else would go on the record alongside Bittersweet? More Tonto tracks? Tracks by other artists? Other reissues? New material like the Invisible Family series? Or should it be just a single sided colour vinyl 12” celebrating the majesty of this wonderful piece of otherworldly yet emotive downtempo synthesizer funk?As time rolled steadily onwards I realised at the end of 2017 that the 20th Invisible, Inc. release (a fair landmark for a small independent label) would soon be upon us.I’d always thought of celebrating reaching the 10th, 20th, 30th release with a mix CD using tracks from the back catalogue.....but by the time INVINC 10 came around I'd missed the boat. I decided I wouldn’t let commemorating the 20th release slip me by and a compilation seemed the most fitting way to do this...and why not go the whole hog and spread it across two discs, house it in a gatefold sleeve and turn it into something rather special? It took three years. From first contacting Malcolm in 2015, until shortly after his 81st birthday in January 2018, that we agreed to reissue the track on vinyl! The timing was perfect. The hunt then began for other music to compliment Bittersweet. I'd heard some remixes legendary cosmic DJ Daniele Baldelli and Marco Dionigi had done of '80s synth pop/electronic founding father Richard Bone that had appeared digitally that I immediately thought would fit the bill. Likewise I'd heard an astonishing collaboration between psychedelic techno/dub duo log(m) (formerly Legion Of Green Men) and ambient pioneer Laraaji that seemed greater than the sum of its parts (keep an eye out for a double album from this melding of minds in early 2019). K. Leimer was another hero of mine, active since the '70s, who I'd been in touch with for a few years. We'd never managed to get a full album off the ground so I was thoroughly over the moon to get a contribution from him for this compilation. Many emails and Skype calls later and the rest all fell into place. I'm so proud to be able to also feature the music of Baikonour (another long time favourite), Eva Geist with Epsilove, Randweg, Causa, Ulysses, and of course those that have already appeared on Invisible, Inc. previously: the inimitable Secret Circuit, Sordid Sound System, Komodo Kolektif, Higamos Hogamos presents Spacerocks, Bal5000, Natural Sugars and Bronze Savage. I couldn't have done it without these people, many of them on board from the very beginning and who I love and respect all the more for it. Invisible, Inc. wouldn't be what it is now if it weren't for them. That being said, “Lost Transmissions From The Off-World Territories” is just a tiny fragment of some of the amazing music available to us today. I urge you to further explore the artists represented here. Some of them have a body of work surprisingly different from the piece of music you are listening to right now. I'll let you go down the rabbit hole yourself. This process is fun if you like a good dig....but beyond that is that every so often you'll find something, as I have done, that'll completely take your breath away and move you to marvel at what an incredible world we're living in; where music can express our most abstract thoughts and deepest feelings in a way that words could never do. Enjoy!Peace and loveGK Machine

Since 2012, Niklas Rehme-Schlüter aka Cass. has released albums of varying styles, from the rather organic and loop based ambient pieces on 'Loops & Farewell Sketches’ and the 'Red Atlantic' EP on Throne of Blood in 2017, influenced by 80’s pop sonics, to the more balearic and percussive recordings on 'The Sound of Glades' together with Wolf Müller in 2016. On his new record 'Postclub Prism’ Cass. explores his affinity to calm and atmospheric ambient music at the threshold to the reverberant sound of club music.

Respuesta Alternativa or the Alternative Response was the project of Spanish musician Jesus M Catalan, created with the help of Julián C. Pérez. As the title implies the music was generated in response to traditional music notions of the time, and reflects how Jesus Mª Catalan would challenge these traditional ideals using a fusion of styles and his unique vision. Jesus laid out his synths and drum machines, while other musicians played traditional instruments over the top. This unique approach worked to create atmospheric tracks capturing simple themes, with each influence being carefully thought of in the joint result. As he explains “each instrument weaves independently throughout a passage in a curious game where the listener’s attention goes from focusing on a keyboard, guitar to bass or percussion. Previously only released on a cassette album in Spain, Left Ear have polished 5 choice cuts for a 2018 12”.

For the final part of SchleiBen 5 - 8, Emotional Response welcomes two Scottish based artists to close out the series. In Jon Keliehor you have a world and music traveler with history from psychedelic rock to fourth world exposure, alongside one of the best electronic producers of the last decade, Lord Of The Isles. As the drummer of West Coast folk rock / psychedelic band The Daily Flash, Keleihor spent much of the mid-60 based in and out of Seattle and Los Angles, playing alongside the likes of Jefferson Airplane, Cream and The Doors, before an increasing interest in meditation and philosophies outside of the 'rock' realm led him to England in the early 70s where he become involved in dance theatre. Teaching Advanced Rhythmic Music Studies at the London Contemporary Dance School, his music composition style became influenced by his studies of world music. Finally settling in Glasgow for over 20 years, while running the Luminous Music label and Gamelan Naga Mas, his earlier recordings for labels like Indipop, Touch and Bruton have seen a recent revival, with music appearing recently on contemporaries Optimo Music and Invisible Inc. The wonderful recordings included here span over 3 decades, from sessions at the Luminous Studio at The Diorama Theatre, London in the early 80s, through to recent field-work based recordings in the Cairngorms. Reconfigured and updated, a common thread appears through the pieces - a sense of longing and appreciation - as Jon's knowledge of outer-national instrumentation alongside equally extensive travels around the globe gives the recordings a seamless blend of organic craft. The tonal consonances within unlikely combinations of instruments, with tuned glasses (tarang), tabla, jaw harps, clay flutes and ocarinas, Chinese instruments that include Xiao-Bo and Xiao-Ping, large Noah bells, small and larges gongs all employed, the recordings have been reconstructed, edited and updated via sampling and digital processing. Featuring the playing of John "Jhalib" Millar - the extraordinarily gifted musician and tabla player - who has appeared with an EP on sister label, Emotional Rescue (ERC029), sadly recently deceased, the contribution acts as a tribute and more. To close, the music of Lord Of The Isles is an excellent companion to Jon's work. Neil McDonald's list of club-based releases on labels CockTail D'Amor, Ene, Firecracker, Permanent Vacation, ESP Institute and Phonica is comprehensive and exemplary, however within his productions has often been an other-worldly element, a space between the beats and occasional fully ambient pieces. Approached originally for series one of SchleiBen, the 7 pieces included were worth the wait, a journey in themselves and the perfect completion. Spanning almost 5 years, the majority were written during an extended exile in the Cairngorms. The lifting, ethereal, but melodic nature of the music fits that aesthetic. Blue skies, snow, long walks, space to think, but with a longing and appreciation of family and friends. The solitary nature found in SchleiBen 8 and the geographical incidence of both artist's recordings including sessions in the Scottish Highlands fits the series ideals and is a nice closure. Enjoy and listen.

The people at Antinote are always excited to introduce new names to its roster and Sign Libra, its latest addition, makes no exception to the rule.Released under the moniker Sign Libra, Closer to the Equator is the work of Latvian artist and composer Agata Melnikova. Composed for a contemporary ballet at Latvian National Opera in Riga, the music on this record strongly relies on Melnikova’s appreciation of BBC-produced nature documentaries. Projecting the life of each creature that inhabits the British TV-program into her very personal and highly synthetized world, Sign Libra lends these microscopic beings her own voice. Each song works like a musical “tableau” in which the main protagonists – plants and animals – come on stage to play their part in a ballet carefully choreographed by the Latvian artist.Sign Libra’s mental and musical incarnations of the microcosm of the rainforest have something to do with Software’s album populated by exotic insects and crawling plants, a “Carnaval des Animaux” released on Sky by a MIDI-addicted Hector Berlioz. These microscopic beings incarnate themselves in resonated melodies that echo through a technicolour rainforest, while winds blow through holographic ferns, vines and palms.Closer To The Equator synthesizes visions panning treetops as the sun’s rays pierce through clouds nearby. Sign Libra takes you into a harmonic world that shines brightly wherever you stand, and offers a genuine synesthetic experience.
