Instrumentalmusik Von Der Mitte Der World
2LP | 2018 | EU | Original (Growing Bin)
23,99 €*
Release:2018 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Limited edition vinyl! Only one copy per customer! Growing Bin burst into 2018 with a bang, crash and symbol splash, uniting a premier pair of percussion obsessives for a supernatural mission into the heart of the rhythm.Dressed in the pitch black of Dusseldorf stands Wolf Mueller, master of the tropical drums and seven time Salon Des Amateur breakdance champion. Repping Cologne and Berlin is Niklas Wandt, Germany’s funkiest drummer and a mixed musical artist as adept in experimental jazz as demented Eurodance. Standing toe to toe in a no holds barred, no drum unstruck groove contest, these two titans will make you swing your pants like a Crash Bandicoot victory dance... so stretch out and step into ‚Instrumentalmusik von der Mitte der World‘.Taking to their task with the joyful abandon of two big kids getting creative with the Kindergarten music tray, Müller & Wandt marry dripping electronics, Froesean pads and rubber-limbed basslines with tribal polyrhythms, C2 claps and Indonesian shakers - and that‘s only on the A1. Comprising of three trance-inducing epics, a handful of medium-sized movers and a couple of freeform interludes, this dynamic double pack could almost pass as a lost Library masterpiece; but our mind guides go Furthur, fusing esoteric funk and free-jazz freak-out a truly transportive experience. Prepare to enter a world of techno totems and neon skulls, shades of Yello and excellent birds. Within these grooves lies a transdimensional pathway between the Temple of Doom, the Twilight Zone and De Palma‘s Paradise, brought to life in a shamanic rite.Forget the healing frequencies of Growing Bin‘s ambient outings, this time we‘re dancing for mental health.

2LP | 2017 | EU | Original (Music For Dreams)

Release:2017 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Copenhagen’s Music For Dreams comes with yet another strong release - a double album of personal favourites compiled by Jan Schulte.According to all maps and witness accounts, Germany does not officially have any tropical forests. This is of no concern to Schulte however, who has unearthed many stunning examples of tropical drum music recorded there. Perhaps the number of botanical gardens and palm houses in Germany confused musicians into mistaking the climate, or maybe it was just a happy blend of escapism and multi-cultural integration within musical scenes that spawned such a curious output of undefinable tribal folk jazz. Most of the tracks picked by Schulte were released on small labels in the late 80's. The musicians involved were mainly traditionally schooled, born and raised in Germany. At that time to be interested in foreign folk music might have seemed a gimmick to some, what with the emerging "world music boom" already snowballing into the mainstream. But these songs, while they may be based on musical traditions from foreign lands, deal much more with introspection than exploitation. Schulte himself points to his "generalfascination for music that describes places where the artists have never been. Songs about the jungle or the rainforest made by people that know the rainforest only from television and books. Somehow I think you can hear their mythical imagination and fantasy in those tracks," he explains. We certainly hear it in the extensive use of wildlife samples on both "Tagtraum Eines Elefanten" by Argile and on "Wuhan Wuchang" by Total Art Of Percussion. Or on the repetitive and trace-inducing drum circle re-enactments of Ralf Nowys "Akili Mali" and Bob Moses’ & Billy Martin’s "Boat Song Part II". And while Austrian band Sanza stands out with their interpretation of the traditional folk song "Sounouh", many of the inclusions take an avantgarde stance towards their visions of the tropics. The works of Om Buschmannand Trimopen seem to convey the stark and feverish nature of the jungle and its dangers, without relying on clichés. And while there is certainly a European approach in the production techniques on many of these recordings, the artists created something beyond all templates. In fusing folk music traditions from various corners of the world with avant-garde jazz improvisation and a distinctly European sound, they carved out a path of their own.Düsseldorf-based Jan Schulte has been following this path with his own productions in the past years. During the present resurgence of tribal influences in underground dance music, his recordings under the alias Wolf Müller and Bufiman have stood out as the most interesting, funky and mindblowing within this niche. With the compilation "Tropical Drums Of Deutschland" for Music For Dreams, Jan Schulte re-traces this path to its origins. With the inclusion of two exclusive edits he also engages and re-examines thesetracks and incorporates his own musical expression into the mix.

Ecuador's rising son, Nicola Cruz, returns to Multi Culti with Cantos de Vision, a truly visionary EP backed by remixes from Jaja, Argentinian Uji, and Multi Culti's own Thomas Von Party. One of the core artists in Multi Culti's diverse catalog of globally-inspired dance music, Nicola Cruz is deservedly becoming the poster-boy for a new wave of producers that fuse indigenous sounds with internationally professional production, creating something entirely new, sonically. It's a genre that Multi Culti ambassadors Dreems & Thomas Von Party refer to as 'Folklorica,' a psychedelic replanting of folkloric roots, and nowhere is it more skilfully executed than on Nicola's tracks.

Reuniting the best session musicians Japan had to offer to make an album that would evoke the atmospheres of South Pacific islands, the kind of places Japanese people spend their vacations in. Pacific (1978) is a treat to the ears; its theme of the southern Pacific ocean and its warm cerulean waters relax its listeners with a fusion of city pop, soft jazz, and that good old 1970’s funk while remaining surprisingly fully instrumental throughout all contributions from artists Haruomi Hosono, Shigeru Suzuki, and Tatsuro Yamashita. A true cult LP and an inspiration for a lot of, so called, “vaporware” music.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
For the second in its new special collector series, Music For Dreams has asked long-time friend of the label Moonboots to pick out a selection of songs with the power to encapsulate moods of calm and moments of contemplation. The result is the exquisite “Moments In Time”Moonboots has been a fixture of the Manchester scene since the Balearic boom in the late 80s. He runs the prolific vinyl label Aficionado Recordings together with fellow DJ Jason Boardman, a project that started out as a Sunday club night. Since 2012, they’ve dished out more than a handful of 12” releases with an ever-surprising selection of underground acts at the fringes of what might be called Balearic. Some of these artists turn up on this album, with exclusive material culled from various demos and unfinished tracks. Swedish-based Farbror Resande Mac for instance, with the brooding, glacial and Carpenter-esque “Janne”, an old fave of Moonboots which featured on their (now defunct) website.“Names In The Sand” by Begin starts off as a similar story: a forgotten demo track Moonboots came upon a few years ago and has been spinning in digital form since. The version on the compilation is a tweaked and finished version.Another exclusive is the extended version of “Från Andra Hand Till Stränderna I Nice” by Gryningen, previously released in 2015 on Aficionado but here extended by Salta to six minutes instead of two.Aside from digging through the outputs of Aficionado affiliates, Moonboots also unearths a cover of Lesley Duncan’s eternal masterpiece “Love Song”. As Moon runs an Instagram account called onehundredlovesongs highlighting his collection of Lesley Duncan cover versions, this is clearly an obsession that bears fruit. “The Natureboy version came about in a weird way”, says Moon. “I was DJing at Spiritland (London) and playing this obscure Canadian xian version when the owner Paul came over to ask about it. He then told me his brother had recorded a version, put me in touch and next thing you know it’s on the comp!”Many of the selections have never previously been available on vinyl, only issued on CD or digital. For instance, the track which gives the compilation its title is a crisp and loungy Paul Hardcastle production from 2005, only ever released on CD. The same applies to the new age epic “Cello Blue” by David Darling from 2001 filled with field recordings of birds and water while Denmark’s own new age maestro Rishi contributes with the track “Simple Trust” from his 1993 album “Notes From The Inner Stream”.Another track seeing its first vinyl release is the contribution from world-jazz trio Bombay Hotel, featuring Kenneth Knudsen as well as Ole Thiel and Mikkel Nordsø who recently released new material for Music For Dreams - the Cafe Del Mar classic “Between Leaves”. Fact – label boss Kenneth Bager gave a copy of the original Bombay Hotel CD in 1993 to Phil Mison at Cafe Del Mar and told him about the “Between Leaves” track. Phil started to play it and the rest is history. The exception to the rule of vinyl premiers is the sample-heavy “Gissningsleken” by Ben Morris - previously released on a limited run 7” from 2012 - as well as dreamy July Skies track “The Softest Kisses” – the 7” version of which has never been issued elsewhere.New Moonboots faves German duo Blank and Jones are included with the summery “My Island” alongside new Danish artist “The Swan And The Lake“ with the exclusive mix of “Moments Of Lost Swans” (Remix) featuring Jonas Krag on pedal steel guitar. All in all, Moonboots has put together a dense collection of songs with a timeless feel. They will doubtless sound as good in the pub as they might at home on a Sunday or in a cabin in the woods. To top things off, the sleeve design comes from Aficionado’s graphic designer Topsy Von Salkeld.

Crossing borders of different genres & cultural spheres, Yør Kultura delivers a superb EP on The Magic Movement. Once again the three Rotterdam based producers and DJs - Danny, Raymon and Kris - impress with their very own cozmik blend of tribal music, House and Downbeat. On the ‘Lotus’ EP, Yør Kultura reveals a more melodic side of their musical realm. Gritty synth lines, strong percussion work and rolling basses invoke the spirits of places not yet discovered. Mysterious vocal samples sing the blues on this journey through various psychedelic worlds. The sultan of hamam swing Mehmet Aslan, crafts a sublime version of 'Willow' on B2, giving a Turkish twist by adding extra guitars and percussions. 33 & 45rpm playback is tested and highly recommended.

Yoshimura was involved in a wide range of fields, such as sound design for public installations, graphic design, visual poetry, free improvised performance (using his own body) and inventing his own instruments, right up until he passed away in 2003.The seven songson this album were created for a fashion exibition held at a warehouse in the Tokyo bay area. He released it on cassete tape on Japanese label ‘Fukusei Gijutsu Kohboh” ran by Yoshio Ojima who produced the album.Referring to the Loft: "As the time goes by, the Loft that was swept away ( forgotten) from the City but it somewhat has a look of a " City of Ruins" that reminds you of something you have forgotten. Something nostalgic. Sounds from the City and the vast landscape gave me a great opportunity to take a fresh look at Tokyo." says Yoshimura.Referring To the Pier: His look towards Tokyo bay takes on the shape of sonic particles....tickling down gently while tinged with change. A landscape of Seven Sounds. This is the first-ever vinyl release, 34 years after it's recording. The sleeve image is the same as on the original cassette release.

And so, steadily, Roberto Musci’s works are being made available for our listening pleasure. Soave’s edition of ‘the complete sessions’ of The Loa of Music, Musci’s debut album from 1984, is now flanked by Urban and Tribal Portraits, another milestone from 1988, a key collaboration with fellow sidereal world traveler Giovanni Venosta, whose essential and amazing debut album Olympic Signals was also recently repressed. While a number of the recordings that comprise this particular work have been (relatively) available --through a ReR anthology that also included tracks from the other Musci/Venosta collaboration, Water Messages on Desert Sand as well as some integrated in the Music From Memory compilation, Tower of Silence, released under Musci’s name only—this is indeed the first time one can listen to this fundamental work as it was meant to be heard. Not a minor detail for a work that was obviously conceptually and narratively rigorously conceived by Musci and Venosta. And what a listen it is.Urban and Tribal Portraits reaffirms the idea of postmodern pastiche as a multimedia multisensory experience and sound as an ecosystem that is both aleatory and concrete, ephemeral and durable. In these binary paradoxes, a radical notion of the nature of collaboration, that is both chance induced and conversely conceptually worked out, is also established. The result is a work that exposes the fixed assumptions about the constructed boundaries and flows between musical traditions and practices. On its own this is the ultimately problematic place where many of the so-called musics concerned with the world reach an impasse, incapable as they are of questioning their own basic assumptions and ultimately end up strengthening those very same boundaries and flows that they had apparently set out to challenge. Musci and Venosta go further, principally and more fundamentally, by picking away at the margins of pure sonorous events and musical material, noise and sonance. In doing so,Urban and Tribal Portraits repoliticizes the notion of pastiche, engaging as it does in a kind of ecopractice, turning the process rather than the musical object into the poetic focus of the work. Fixed categories are rendered ephemeral, temporal and spatial categories including the margins, so hard to overcome, between composition, improvisation, authorship, recordedness and live performance are deconstructed. In the end, where one would expect seriousness there is levity and where one might see some postmodern appropriative ironic juxtaposition there is intensity and respect of the magical organicness of the material sources.Like much Italian experimental music from that magical decade of the 80s this is not your dad’s fourth world music, with all of its ambiguous aestheticism of ‘unifying’ some not so well defined primitivism of ‘world ethnic styles’ with the futuristic sounds of whatever ‘advanced electronic techniques’ were the platter du jour. In this sound the 8-bits of the E-Mu Emax is as primitive as the Jews Harp while the electronically treated Pygmy chants turn out to be as futuristic as the multi-timbral capacities of the OB-8.From the funk ostinatos of “El Lamento de Los Ayatollah” where Venosta showcases his straight piano playing to the rarefied queer guitar arpeggios in “Tamatave”, the peaceful ripples in “Dialogue Between a Dreamer and Others”, the playfulness of “Starfish & Kangaroos” or the post-punkish This Heat/Cabaret Voltaire aggression in “The Fear of a Soldier” this is destabilization as praxis, a shifting of the ground. The new cover image, that replaces the ethno patchwork of the original sleeve (beautiful as it was) is indeed more to the point: Sven Hedkin’s photograph of early 20th century Tibetan death masks is at once urban and tribal, surrealist in its uncanniness. Just like in surrealist praxis these sounds offer some kind of redemption: sounds used in alternative ways, distinct from their usual connections, deconstructed. A DIY bricolage: a destructuring of everyday sound objects towards new uses fed by local ecosituated experiences, transformative of performance and listening. Surrealist ‘musicking’ indeed.

Isle Of Jura’s second longplayer reissue is an album from Ingleton Falls that touches upon Ambient, Dub, House and Balearic styles and was originally released in 1991 as a limited run of 100 self distributed cassette tapes Ingleton Falls are Andy Hannam Seymour and Andy Eardley from Tyne and Wear in Newcastle. Having come from a more traditional band background originally, Ingleton Falls was their electronic project and the result of a love of acts like Dub Syndicate, African Headcharge, Gary Clail, The Orb and The KLF. Andy Hannam Seymour remembers “It was a very creative time musically, there was a lot going on around us that used new technology. I was excited by the possibilities. Up until then I'd been playing guitar with a more traditional drums/bass/guitar/vocal band with all the 'musical differences' that entailed (the two bands ran side by side for a while). I also liked the idea that you could write and record a piece of music that was ready to release yourself, rather than it being a demo or having to pay a lot of cash for studio time. That DIY aspect was a lot of fun.”The album is split into 2 parts, ‘Aware’ and ‘Unaware’. Andy explains “We decided that 'side1' and side2' were pretty dull and came up with the aware and unaware division based on a kind of enlightened and unenlightened mind kind of idea. The unaware side had the tunes with themes like necrophilia and samples of christians and the aware side was more expansive mindful themes.”Equipment used the make the album included a Cheetah SX16 sampler, Alesis HR16 Drum Machine, Yamaha FG440 Acoustic Guitar, Tokai Stratocaster Guitar and an Atari ST computer running a Steinberg Pro 24 sequencing program (from floppy disk!). Due to a lack of sampling memory sounds were added live from cassette into the final mixes. 25 years later these songs finally reach a wider audience, initially via a limited cassette release followed 6 weeks later by the 180 Gram Heavyweight LP.

Now entering a half-decade, Emotional Rescue presents an album that took almost as long to release as the label has existed. Jorge Reyes' collaborative album with Antonio Zepeda is a masterpiece and therefore, worthy of the time and effort to share. From cult artist to becoming an essential musical discovery, Jorge Reyes is an example that no one discovered or owns the music beyond the writer and creator. Growing up in Mexico's 2nd City, he spent much of his life dedicated to travelling and learning music traditions and instruments. While at University to study Flute, he was involved in several influential bands of the era before going on to travel the world to further his learning, before returning to found the seminal Chac Mool group. By the early 80s he went solo, exploring an increasing interest in the use of Prehispanic instruments mixed with electronics. In the opening songs, I-Cana and A La Izquiedra Del Colibri, the interplay between flute, guitar and vocals with TR-700, Poly 800 and DX7, all fuse his vision perfectly. The additional contribution of Antonio Zepeda's percussion creates a timeless mystique to the album, taking you on a journey deep in the mind of one of Mexico's most important experimental artists. Passing away at just 56, Jorge Reyes work was cut short, however he has left over a dozen albums to be explored. While critics increasingly question the valedictory of reissues, the premise on whether something should be heard is if it's good. Therefore, let A La Izquierda Del Colibri be heard.

Turkish mystery man Ali Kuru is fast becoming one of our go-to artists. Since joining the label in early 2016, he’s released two superb EPs, with a debut album of evocative musical blends – think dub, disco, downtempo grooves, humid exotica, and authentic middle eastern instrumentation – dropping in July.Ahead of the album release, we have decided to hand over the parts to a clutch of Kuru’s tracks to a hand picked team of remixers. Predictably, all have delivered, serving up versions that retain the essence of Kuru’s atmospheric productions, whilst taking the tracks in a variety of beguiling new directions.First to feature are cosmic disco pioneer Daniele Baldelli and production partner Dario Piana, fresh from dropping an inspired EP of their own on Leng. Their version of “Ashoka” successfully wraps feverish Persian instrumentation and vintage synthesizer chords around a rock-solid rhythm track and bold electronic bassline. The result is not so much ‘Afro-cosmic’, as ‘Arabic-cosmic’.Next up is long time friend of the label Craig Bratley, whose hypnotic, chugging interpretation of “Zurna” – all crispy snares, dubbed-out electronic motifs, exotic vocals and snaking lead lines – recalls the finest moments on his essential Magic Feet label. On the flip, you’ll find a pair of revisions from artists who made their name on Multi Culti, a label specializing in the kind of global dancefloor fusions that are near impossible to pigeonhole. First up is Nicola Cruz, who successfully transforms “Return To Paradise” via an intoxicating blend of loose cumbia rhythms, dub bass, lilting guitar lines and deep space effects. If Ali Kuru met Adrian Sherwood in Columbia for a jam session, it would probably sound a little like Cruz’s fabulous rework.Peter Power travels further towards the atmospheric depths on his version of “Lost Bedouin”. More horizontal and clandestine in town, the producer makes great use of Kuru’s haunting flute lines and evocative field recordings. The resultant remix is gentle in tone and tempo, but also ethereal in its’ druggy, early morning outlook. Like the other three tracks, it’s a very fine remix.

Few artists can claim to have their own distinctive “musical voice”: a style of composition and production that listeners instantly recognize. For starters, it takes years of experimentation to perfect, and most people simply don’t have the patience, talent or skills to pull it off.Ali Kuru is one of those rare producers whose music sounds like nothing else around. The Istanbul-based artist has spent the best part of a decade honing his trademark style – a fragrant and intoxicating aural brew that combines a myriad of influences with atmospheric field recordings and snaking, mind-altering Middle Eastern instrumentation – via releases for the likes of Luxa Flex, Kalisah, Sound Architecture and, most recently, Leng. It’s to the latter label that the publicity-shy producer returns with his most ambitious release to date, Egzotik. 15 tracks and 70 minutes deep, it’s not so much a debut album as a statement of intent. From start to finish, it feels like a humid, sweat-soaked saunter through the winding streets of Istanbul in the company of a musician who draws more inspiration than most from his immediate surroundings. Those surroundings come to the fore on opener “Bazaar”, where tipsy horns and gently strummed electric guitar passages slowly rise above the sound of a harbourside market. They’re present, too, within the souk rhythms and cascading pianos of “Zorba The Greek”, beneath the gentle throb of “Lost Bedouin”, inside the spaced-out, stargazing pulse of “Hiyar”, and around the chiming melodies and mournful strings of hushed ambient closer “Adios”.Kuru’s genius lies in his ability to take familiar musical tropes and twist them into unique, Ottoman-inspired shapes. So, while “Tangerine Dream” doffs a cap to the stretched-out hypnotism of the legendary krautrock band of the same name, its reliance on backwards drum hits, locked-in grooves and psychedelic sample loops is a far more contemporary proposition. Some may hear the influence of Detroit beatdown in the slow and dubby house grooves of “Le Voyage De Space”, while others could describe the drowsy “Ashoka” as being Weatherall-esque. Yet none of these tracks, layered as they are with traditional Balkan, Persian and Arabic instrumentation, sound like anything other than Ali Kuru productions. The result is an album that surprises and enthralls in equal measure. Highlights come thick and fast, from the bubbling, dub-house psychedelia of “Mount Damavand” and haunting deep techno humidity of “Sacred Vallley”, to the Augustus Pablo-in-Ankara shuffle of “Jungle Flower” and potent hookah hit of “Return to Paradise”, where sampled voices rise above a typically tactile groove.

Mexican guitarist and ambient artist Eblen Macari's Música Para Planetarios (Music for Planetariums) was originally composed for weekly performances in the Luis Enrique Erro Planetarium in Mexico City to accompany a voyage through the galaxy. The album, released in 1987 was based around Macari's solo performances using Ensoniq ESQ-1, a Korg Poly 800, two guitars and pre-hispanic Ocarinas. The expanded arrangements recorded for the album include a full stable of pre-hispanic percussion and beautiful baroque harpsichord played by Macari's wife. This expansive interplanetary soliloquy is undoubtedly Macari’s masterpiece. Remastered from the original master tapes.

Fresh from wowing us with that crazy limited promo 45, Parisian Krikor Kouchian delivers 11 tracks of expertly executed boogie funk. BIG TIP!.Think of the neon lights of the boulevard or a late nite drive through the lonely hills, Krikor Kouchian’s "Pacific Alley" propels you to a world of sleaze and excitement, where passion, money, and illicit substances take precedent and the sun beats down in a relentless unforgiving fashion.Spending time as a youth in Southern Cailifornia, the French-born Kouchian developed an obsession with this Americana and the magic of everything California. The music on the radio, from pop, to funk, to hip hop fueled his impressionable mind, later on taking influence in his own music.Pacific Alley is a snapshot of this lost period, full of juicy low slung basslines, slow bpm cruisers, Linn drum crashes, and ride or die melodies. The elements all meld together through this 11 track lp, it's equal parts uplifting and melancholic, downtrodden, yet not without rays of light; the soundtrack for days hanging in front of the corner stores and nights on the strip, both a naive love affair and backstabbing doublecross. This is boogie funk for the grift, a dollar here buys a bottle there so step into the shade, pop the tape in the deck and enter into the concrete dreamworld.

Nicola Cruz polishes off a trippy tryptic of cult releases for Multi Culti with ESPÌRITU.Folklorica's chosen lord, Nicola Cruz has shepherded the masses from the church of high tempos and brought trance-formed revellers down to earth with his fusion of crisp electronics and organic, indigenous vibrations. Miraculously, he has brought this style of music to Europe's major big room clubs and huge festival stages worldwide, pleasing crowds in the habit of being hypnotized by homogenous house music.Espìritu de Protección opens as a revelation, two seconds into the groove and you're deep in the tribe. You're dancing, everybody's dancing, things dub out, melt down, and a haunting vocal wisps through the room, tickling the crowd from their tailbones to their pineal glands. Just as you recover from that spell, in fly the flutes. Every yogi in the vicinity sways into the front and all of a sudden, you KNOW you're getting laid tonight. That's the kind of power we're dealing with: CRUZ CONTROL.It's so potent we had to carefully extract the Flute-A-Pella and serve it up separately to use as a cult DJ tool.On the flip side, not one but two slamming remixes of Tzantza from Disco Halal-defekting Russian duo: Simple Symmetry. Vinyl lovers rejoice in the supreme exclusivity on the digitally unavailable Folklorica Dub, a supreme tranceformational party tool with enough flute to elevate the mind of the many.

Music From Memory's final compilation of 2017 sees the release of the double album “1 by 1”, which brings together the works of American experimental musician Geoffrey Landers. During a period spanning from 1979 to 1987, this Denver, Colorado based multi-instrumentalist, composer, record producer and engineer, conceived several solo albums. Only two of these, “The Ever Decimal Pulse” and “Habitual Features” along with the single “Breedlove” were ever released on vinyl. .Being heavily involved in the local industrial/punk/new wave scene and wanting to create a recording studio “available to record artists regardless of their financial circumstances” Landers set up “The Packing House Studio” in 1981. This analog 8-track recording facility was located in a former slaughterhouse in the stockyards of Denver and was a place of significant activity for the next three years with the studio releasing recordings from numerous artists most notably Allen Ginsberg. It was here that Geoffrey Landers also started his own aptly named “Cauhaus” label. Indicative of the underground/DIYculture, “Cauhaus” was a subsiduary of a label called Local Anaesthetics which was started as an in-store label by independent Denver record store Wax Trax. Typically Cauhaus releases were only pressed up in small quantities and independently distributed, making Lander's music essentially elusive to a wide audience. After relocating in 1984 to an art district of Denver Landers opened the “Cauhaus Institute of Recording” studio where he continued to produce music for soundtracks, art and multi media projects for the next three years, after which Landers stepped out of the music industry entirely. He currently creates and exhibits mixed-media glass art.Throughout the twenty tracks of "1 by 1", of which six previously appeared on CD only, we are submerged into a wide diversity of musical approaches from Geoffrey Landers. From the proto-house track “Logarhythms” and the heart breaking New-Wave Boogie/Funk of “Say You’ll Say So” to the more contemplative pieces such as the oriental insprired “Nisei” and the drenched in sunshine dub/reggae track “Mack” Landers shies away from musical expectations again and again; searching continually for innovative and new forms of expression.

The most obscure and sought after italian electronic release, but also another extraordinary 70s output from the legendary Regson Studio of Milan remembering in 1976 "Funky Bump" and a year later "Disco Shitan", both produced by Pino Presti. The eclectic brother of Vangelis chit> he was playing keyboards like him, helped by Yorgos Pentzikis for the "vocoder" vocals, reached the right sound for one of the craziest electronic disco song now available for for the first time on 12, containing also the unreleased instrumental version. Nikos Papathanassiou in 1976 achieving success with the disco-hit "U" by Chrisma, but Maurizio Arcieri cousin of Pino Presti and Chrisma's leader, moved towards new-wave and punk. So for the orchestral conducting of a new cosmic-disco project titled MoreI Like It he involved Rodolfo Grieco who later produced in the emerging genre of Italo-Disco great classics like "Going Crazy" by Lily Ann."

Copenhagen-based label Music For Dreams are extremely proud to unleash the debut album of Sweden’s Prins Emanuel.Released in double vinyl format, Emanuel’s first full length solo project is a concept album revolving around the medium of the record itself. With a functionalist’s attitude, each of the vinyl records can serve a different purpose. Translated from Swedish, the album title literally reads "Work/Leisure Time" and the contrasting moods of the two discs are meant to reflect. So on a Friday evening, you might tell your girl or boy to put on the A/B sides as you're getting ready to bust some moves that night. And on Sunday evening, you tell him/her to put on the C/D sides as you're relaxing and tapping up a bath. Although this is a multi-instrumentalist’s vision, the fact that Prins is primarily a drummer is clearly evident in the masterful hypnotic grooves that form the base on which the whole album stands. And while elements of dub, boogie, afro, house and new age flicker by as we ride along on these motorik rhythms, the balance between warmth and repetition provokes a constant tickling irrestistible tension. For fans of the young Swede’s former output with the Fasaan/Chalice label (especially his collaborations with label mate Golden Ivy), this superb LP will surely not disappoint. Limited repress edition - don’t miss.

The sporadic and limited edition Especial Specials returns after a yearlong hiatus by teaming up with DEEK Recordings to bring their unique covers Covered In Gloria compilation to vinyl. Featuring label boss Bullion on A&R, production and artistic duties, alongside label favourites Thool, plus fellow luminaries Red Axes, Reckonwrong and newcomers Alaskalaska. The premise for the project couldn't be more straight forward, giving peers and friends a free reign over who they reinterpret. Overseen by label head Nathan Jenkins (Bullion) the project is pulled together for release by DEEK as a now annual jam. First up, the Red Axes duo just keep on keeping on. Their retake of a miss-hit from Ms K Wilde is a surprise catch and the reposte to the often strained, cooler-than-thou machinations of the music scene. It's the groove and that makes you moove. Next is the highly talented, but still underrated Thool with their stunning Francophile take of Joe Jackson's classic Stepping Out. A mix of pop perfection and Balearic love. The side closes with art-pop exposers, Alaskalaska, giving Edwin Collins' career returning hit a warm twist and hip-shake that is hard to resist. Of course Mr. DEEK is here somewhere and Bullion's cover of J.J.Cale's ode to forgetting life's troubles heralds exactly why Covered In Gloria works. A perfect marriage of respectful update, killer production and song-craft, fun and letting it all hang out. To close then comes another of London's rising natural talents. After stand out releases for Pinkman and Whities, here Reckonwrong turns it all on its head with his warped reversion of Berverley Craven's torchbearer. I'll be right here waiting.

Emotional Rescue starts its 5th year by shining a light on one of Europe's best underground 80s' label in Spain's Auxilio De Ciento. Their Terra Incognita Volumes I and II collated an international mix of synth-pop, new wave, world and industrial sounds to a small but appreciative following. Released in 1985 and 1986, the Volumes have become highly regarded and rightly sought after, finding a place in discerning playlists from London to Amsterdam and Dusseldorf to Glasgow. Here, taking a premise of avoiding the songs unearthed on other recent reissues, is a unique album itself. Starting with Denis Mpunga & Paul K's esoteric Criola, a fusion of fourth world ideals and poly-rhythmic funk. The music of Mal, Bene Gesserit and La Caida De La Casa Usher, however, soon highlight that the decade also belonged to dark, minimal synth as to shiny balearic ideals. The inclusion of Hector Zazou with Bony Biyake and their contribution Komba, is a fitting continuation from their cult Noir Et Blanc LP before, things continue with US avant-artist Danny Alias and his humorous Big Brother "response" to Laurie Anderson's Superman O. Image Pour Image loose indie-pop and the inclusion of seminal Beast Of Burden lead again to a Zazou contribution, this time in his collaborative Stranger In A New Light, before the compilation eclectically ends with the dadaesque Lakota and the post punk dub of Instead Of's closer, Angels .

The eye of the storm: welcome to Tornado Wallace’s debut album! The accumulation of about four years of work, with tracks written in Berlin and Melbourne, ‘Lonely Planet’ is nothing like you may have expected from the Australian expat. No stranger to fans and followers of ESP Institute, Beats in Space and Music From Memory’s sister Label Second Circle, Tornado Wallace’s strain of releases so far merged functionality with a musical playfulness that led him to find himself as one of the producer’s behind José Padilla’s International Feel album. Here, he leaves the needs of the dance floor behind in order to create a magical mystery tour de trance into his and our inner jungle. How about some references? New Age sounds meet new wave melodies, Grace Jones runs into the Dire Straits at Compass Point, while a Korg Mini Pops and a Roland CR78 make amends for Sly & Robbie’s absence, Michael Mann pictures Joseph Conrad’s ‘Heart of Darkness’, Robert Rauschenberg tries his luck at naturalism and an imagined Wally Badarou echoes through all of it. Sandwiched between the title track and the yearning beauty of the album’s final point ‘Healing Feeling’, you get all of that as well as collaborations with and contributions of NO ZU, David Hischfelder and the voice of Sui Zhen on ‘Today’, who would easily make Anna Domino take her proverbial hat off. Tornado Wallace created an album that supersedes the requirements and expectations of a debut. Like a lost Island Records or a never released Made to Measure album, ‘Lonely Planet’ soundtracks notions and ideas that recall the nostalgic future in the past as much as it looks ahead.

Music best listened with the ancient ochres of the Australian outback in view. So seamlessly will the sonic palette of Scenes fit your surroundings, you’ll begin to question whether or not these gentle surroundings are being emitted from the wax spinning on your plate or Eucalypts whirring in the wind around you.

Istanbul-based Tolga Büyük started his solo project Islandman in 2010 and has already built quite a name for himself with a slew of self-released EPs & albums. Already prominent in Istanbul’s psychedelic scene as part of live-performance band Farfara, as Islandman he builds his unique style off the rich history of Turkey’s psychedelic rock movement, taking it further in his own direction. The Anatolian tradition of fusing the country’s folk music with Western influences has produced a unique legacy of sound, as evident by the discographies of Erkin Koray and Baris Manco for instance, with the guitar long the sound weapon of choice. So too for Islandman, but apart from mastering this instrument quite eloquently, he also orchestrates it into a new and different context than merely providing hippie nostalgia. By re-framing the murky and somewhat dusty Anatolian psychedelic sound with a cool Mediterranean vibe and a very Balearic-friendly production, Islandman’s music is the next step in the progression of Anatolian music. On “Rest In Space”, his first full length outing for Music For Dreams, the LP keeps a steady pace of around 90-95 bpm, but never gets repetitive with Islandman taking us on a rich and ever surprising journey, full of quirky turns and mysterious instrumentations. The opener “Rest In Space” treats us to a funky percussion-thick rhythm that lounges into a pool of playful & jazzy horn & flute arrangements. This is followed by the epic “Night Wind” which sweeps across cinematic desert landscapes of synth layers and falls into a dark night time groove reminiscent of Nicolas Jaar & Dave Harrington’s Darkside project. “Seikleos” centers around a motorik electronic rhythm pattern (not unlike the classic electro-pop classic “Popcorn”) that develops into a chugging balearic house jam while stand out track “Future Days” brings in a female guest vocalist to complete the album with a breezy full on groover that echoes of both Sheila Chandra and Tom Tom Club. Also included is the previously released digital single “Agit” as well as a remix by Berlin-based M.RUX, toning down the heavy guitar of the original in favor of a more bouncier interpretation. The stunning “Ikaru” wades in through chunks of jungle ambiance and watery percussion to lounge along on a rubbery funk bassline, coupled with a heavy laid back beat and wobbly derelict synth figures. “Tawhid” is an odd mix of new wave brilliance and prog momentum that breaks into a cascade of pouring rain and surprising percussion breaks. Lastly comes gorgeous Eastern guitar opus “The True Word of the Wind” and the warm vibey dreamscape “Following”. As a whole, Islandman delivers a delicate buffet of influences - spanning the spectrum from hazy balearic pop to tropical new age flirts to deep spiritual psychedelic jamming.

Fernando Pulichino is no stranger to Leng Records. The bass guitar-wielding Argentine made his first appearance on the label five years ago via the cosmic disco/psychedelic rock fusion of Blue Impala, returning two years later with the similarly inclined brillianceof Giant Desert. Pulichino then resurfaced on Leng late last year with a superb, digital-only three-tracker called Natural 77. Now he’s back on wax, buoyed by the success of the acclaimed Shining EP on Is It Balearic?Recordings. This time round he’s in Search of Indigo, shaping hazy, sun-baked soundscapes around his distinctive basslines, echo-laden synthesizers, meandering Fender Rhodes solos, gentle dub vibrations and glistening, early morning jazz guitars. This is music for the heads, hips and feet, soaked in Fernet and left in the afternoon sun to slowly ripen. Arguably the most arresting of the four cuts is the title track, a head-in-the-clouds vocal number rich in bubbly electronic riffs, laidback electro beats, ricocheting percussion hits, swirling wind effects and rubbery funk-rock bass. Pulichino’s penchant for intergalactic disco shufflers once again comes to the fore on killer “Sundown Visions”, a saucer-eyed chugger that simultaneously throbs, pulses and sparklesthanks to sparring synthesizer motifs and eyes-closed space rock guitars. We suspect Daniele Baldelli and Andrew Weatherall would approve. Elsewhere, Pulichino indulges his passion for sofa-surfing jazz-funk on solo-laden EP closer “Frontera”, a relaxed and undulating jam rich in cascading electric guitars, fluid electric piano, delay-laden flourishes and deep space synthesizers. You won’t know whether to lie down, dance enthusiastically or wearily shuffle; either way, play at sunrise or sundown for maximum enjoyment. The EP also boasts a first vinyl outing for the title track of last year’s digital-only EP, “Natural ‘77”. Seemingly partly inspired by legendary West Coast funkateers Steely Dan, it’s a lazy, lowslung affair full of languid guitar solos, freestyle vocal improvisations, bongo-laden drums and one of his most inspired and elastic basslines to date.

Spending time amidst the insects, rice fields and scorching sun, the pair gathered a library of found sounds which were then taken back to a studio space to be stretched, mangled and manipulated alongside a variety of electronic and acoustic instruments. The outdoor studio itself became a living instrument, with the duo setting up multiple microphones for durations of up to 12 hours around the space, layering and processing the results in tracks such as “Fauna Mapping” and “A Series Of Small Frogs”.

Following the success of last years reissue of Vox Populi!'s Aither, Emotional Rescue returns to the French / Persian band with the first of two albums selected from their considerable archive. First, their experiments between 1984 and 1989 in what are essentially pre-Aither sessions, Magiques Creations is in essence, an album of the imagination. Self-labeled as an ethno-industrial project, Vox Populi!'s recordings act as a document of the bridge between their earlier industrial influenced output through to a more cerebral, ethnic oeuvre. The collection highlights the movement through 1985's Myscitismes and 1987's Half Dead Ganja Music towards Aither, with a darker, edgier sound mixed with increasingly lighter, ethereal touches. On pieces like Joue Joue, Miss October and Ankaboot the synergy is apparent. Mithra's vocals align with organ and synthesiser to set gothic-noir scenes, while the heavy kick of Tchi Tchi Vox and Jube Man, with sax and distortion clearly pre-dating Aither, propel to the more experimental DJs. Against this Nazareman, Bedroud and Deltangui explore the increasily ethno side of the band. As the album unfolds however, it's not about single pieces, but a cohesive whole and the process and flow. Ethnic influences float around rhythm box, as hand percussion, guitar, tar and tapes warm the mind and lilting vocals seep inside. The collective nature of the band's recording is witnessed, but the pieces work together perfectly. The process of making music, constantly evolving a sound of their own has left a trove of music to examine. Working closely with Axel and Mithra some thirty years later brings out it's own vibrations. Ancient flights remembered.

Whispered words from the ancient earth. The biosphere metaphorically battered by dusty drum machines, synth swept landscapes, industrial hooks that ring out from the barren outback. Was is das? Die Orangen are Australian-expats Kris Baha and Dreems, and together they have crafted a genre: "Krautback." Rooted in indigenous psychedelia, resonating the vast expanses of the island of Gondwanaland, turnt up by progressive cultures, and multiplied by the logic of the German mind. Hear the sound of the Southern sun melt genres, feel it flow downstream into a languid ocean of sound. Beware the punch of the red kangaroo, a bite from the deadly taipan, the neon stare in a tree-frogs eye, and the bleached siren call of the coral reef - these wild sonic reveries ominously soundtrack the future that nature has in store.

Mysterious, charming, and wavering,Scoprire Le Orme(Discover The Footsteps) represents a unique musical experience; a kind of Minimal Folk with far Eastern baroque influences. The work is a living entity, yet with a calm atmosphere interweaved with tension - the tradition here being redefined and transfigured in a very personal way with a touch of esotericism.Roberto Mazza (formerly a member ofTELAIO MAGNETICO, along withFranco Battiato,Lino “Capra” Vaccina, andJuri Camisasca) has since the early seventies devoted himself to the study of both British and Scottish traditional music, with closer attention to the Hebrides archipelago. This work, originally published only on audiotape, has been recorded in complete autonomy with Mazza himself playing the compositions and utilizing instruments such as Oboe, Bardic Harp, and synthesizers.

Strictly Classified - July 2017, Amsterdam, NLWe Write To You With The Conclusions Of Our Investigation Into The Synthesized Audio Transmissions Picked Up By The Deep Space Telescope At Irregular Intervals Since 1986.After Many Years, We Pinpointed The Source Of The Ear-Pleasing Frequencies. They Were Being Transmitted From A Secluded Building In “Kawasaki”, Japan. A Key To Their Origin Was Found On The Video-Sharing Site, “Youtube”.When We Visited The Building, We Discovered Identical Twins, Huddled Around A Synthesizer Manufactured By The Casio Cor-Poration. The Twins Told Us That Their Names Were Satoshi And Makoto, And That The Synthesizer Model Number Was Cz-5000.We Were Still Puzzled About The Music We Had Heard, Which Was Largely Ambient In Nature, Positive In Tone, And Possibly Extra-Terrestrial In Origin. Under Interrogation, Satoshi And Makoto Claimed That They Had Created Every Melody, Drumbeat And Musical Phrase Using This One Piece Of Japanese-Made Musical Hardware. We Doubted Their Version Of Events, So Asked For A Demonstra-Tion Of Their Working Method. Once They Had Shown Us How They Shaped, Played And Sequenced Sounds, We Accepted That The Transmissions We Had Received Were Indeed Created Entirelyusing The Cz-5000. Satoshi And Makoto Said That The Audio Transmissions We Were Investigating Had Been Mostly Been Created Throughout The 1990S, Under The Influence Of Early Japanese Techno, The Orb, Ymo, Kraftwerk And “Lots Of Soul”.We Asked To Be Provided With A Collection Of These Trans-Missions, Which Had Never Before Been Made Available To The Public. Satoshi And Makoto Kindly Provided Us With A Compact Disc, On To Which Was Scribbled The Code “St006”.We Believe It Is In The Public Interest To Make These Remark-Able Synthesizer Compositions Available For Wider Research. We Have Therefore Passed Them On To The “Safe Trip” Organisation. They Will Make Suitable Arrangements For Public Release

After a couple of releases for the label, including notable remixes, plus the excellent recent 7 for Hoga Nord Rekords, Jamie returns to warm glow of Especial for a collective vinyl only EP of 4 unreleased remixes brought together for limited release. Opening is his dark, brooding rework of See You In The Dark from Sexy Merlin's 2012 cassette only release Heater. Taking the 2mins + plus original and feeding it through modular and space echo environs, this long form remix has been alighting dance floors whenever aired. Throbbing bass and phased, twisted vocals pull the track deeper, all with that neu-wave touch that has become Jamie's hallmark whether sought or not! Next Jamie turns to the Eastern melodies of Guy Schalom. The drummer and percussionist first came in to Paton's orbit via his partnership within Cage & Aviary and his remix here strips the original to his affinity with dub and bass. Horns rise and fall, driven by snare and guitar in a unique reversion of a version in the truest es)sense. Roots and vulture y'all. The B-side heads back deep with his wonderful remix of Gatos Negros's Overdrive. Taken from the bands 7th Life album on Spain's Rotten City, the interplay with arpeggio, bass and vocals shows why Jamie has his own unique following. Closing the EP sees a return to a relationship first seen via Cage & Aviary's remixes of Blancmange in 2014. A mutual admiration achieved, the band requested a special remix of their rerecorded 1982 classic Feel Me. Jamie rebuilds the track with a nod to it's past, his own sound and also, as a final homage to nights remembered at the Brixton HQ years of World Unknown, where the original was such a highlight. Here comes a love song.

For their third release the Basel centred Fleeting Wax family turn their attention to their chess obsessed buddies, Karpov Not Kasparov. The Bucharest mastermind's Vocal version of Choose Your Colour Gipsy Dark gets the remix treatment from fellow Romanians Khidja, label boss Mehmet Aslan as well as a special collective effort from the artists behind the label. The original track was first created for a fashion show during a protest movement in Bucharest and has gone on to become a favourite for those surrounding the Fleeting Wax crew. In the show the models were women from marginalised gypsy communities who donned outfits from well known Romanian designers. The release adds another layer of poignancy as it brings together again the partnership led to The Mechanical Turk remix which has become an anthem for adventurous DJs worldwide and helped push the heavily eastern influenced sound that is sweeping dancefloors across Europe and beyond. The three remixes build on the spacey, smokey atmosphere of the original, exploring the trippy influences at it's heart. Romanian hardware obsessives Khidja turn in a typically jacking, infectious Chicago influenced remix, keeping things heady with the track's doom laden vocal. Mehmet Aslan's chugging remix brings the seductive melodic flavours of the orient to bear once more on the dancefloor with all the coolness and restraint he has become known for. The first ever Fleeting Wax remix is a spacey, Italo inspired reworking based on airy drums and a constant undulating bass line that tempers the drama of the ascending melodies.

Emotional Response starts 2017 with a mini-album of ambient-equatorial enlightenment by Australia's mysterious Tropical Hi-Fi. The final record from an artist appearing on the label's first SchleiBen series, this also points to the future. Based somewhere in the far flung Northern Territories, the music of Hi-Fi's pre-incarnation Electric Egypt was first discovered via the note-worthy airwaves of L.A's outstanding Dublab radio station. As the wonderfully diverse internet shows and project's dense, hip-hop inspired collages came to fruition with 2012's Exotica release, a dual awareness and sporadic contact was maintained whenever a signal could be established with Hi-Fi base camp. As the SchleiBen series was formed, the studio-DJ-cut-up-mix of Oceanic Mythology was warmly received as an inspired counterpoint to the dense offering from Don't DJ. These first real solo recordings from the Hi-Fi crew - whoever he/she/they maybe - moves on from the cut'n'paste of Electric Egypt to seek a meditative vision. Ambient, drone and field recordings are all part of a drifting tropical flavour that encompasses the listener. Music truly inspired by it's surroundings, this is not some music journal, flying in to sample a life and it's sounds, but the real, living entity and it can be heard deep across the 8 short pieces. None is more typified than Tahiti Blue, where fellow traveler Mike Cooper layers his ubiquitous steel blues over simple, lilting drums. Mixed by Leaving Record's Matthewdavid (with whom more to come on the label in 2017), photography by Native Finger and the ever-present encouragement of friend and neighbour, Ariel Kalma, this is conceptual album to lay back, drift off on undulating swells and simply, let go to.

Modern Classics Recordings holds the lens up to a special split album created by one of the driving forces behind the groups This Heat and Camberwell Now – drummer Charles Hayward – in collaboration with Italian musician Gigi Masin, whose looping, rhythmic, electronic compositions have seen his cult following grow in his four decades as a recording artist.Originally released on Belgium’s Sub Rosa label in 1989, “Les Nouvelles Musiques De Chambre Volume 2” is a split LP on which Masin’s eight tracks occupy side A and Charles Hayward’s long-form piece (at 21 minutes long), "Thames Water Authority”, occupies side B. Geography may have separated the two artists, who each recorded their pieces in isolation from the other, but there’s a commonality to their approach. Previously, Masin had released the inspired 1986 album “Wind”, while Hayward’s music had long been influenced by the landscape and society of London and the UK.For this album, the label challenged the two musicians to write about the waterways of their respective cities, Venice and London. For Masin, that meant describing the human interactions related to the Italian city’s famous landmarks. For Hayward, it meant describing the physicality of water, the “densities and energies” as he puts it, and the politics of it too. This release marks the first ever vinyl reissue since the original release in 1989. All audio material got restored and remastered. The LP is housed in a deluxe Stoughton “tip-on” jacket with track notes by Gigi Masin and Charles Hayward. This LP also features the Masin track “Clouds” as sampled by To Rococo Rot and Björk.

Following the success of the percussive heavy debut Wu Du Wu on Second Circle, the return to the studio for Christian and Jan Schulte and this resultant EP is a true coming together of cross-generational minds.Unfolding across 3 songs of subtly and beauty; mood, structure and atmospherics form in a post-Balearic meets psychedelic haze.Lilting piano start before dub bass and Dominik's refrain melts its way in Rheinfahren. Voids open, minds expand, felds walked, oceans crossed, seas parted, wind pushes against the face, rolling hills, cloudy skies, sun, sand, love, lost, found, deeper and deeper it goes in to your soul. The uber flow continues at a slower pace with Tangerine (Krauter Mix) taking things down but carrying the interplay between artist's continues as if made for each other. Guitar hooks in multiple layers, finger clicks, pots 'n pans vibes gently taking you from Formentara to Tisno, Malibu, Tulum or wherever your heart lies restful. Finally, Guten Morgen Bromio is the (bro)mance to end any affair. Hip Hop roots, Jan's mouth-harp underlaying, Dominik's licks and Christian's dub fx laiden 'Spector' commandments shuffle together until group vocals bring them finally to completion.A wonderful EP bringing together 3 artists and 2 labels for the love of music.

Phantom Island‘s first outing in 2018 is a project that dates back to the very beginning of the label. Wavetest is something like Phantom Island’s in-house band, a true family affair. The five-piece combo, originally from Liechtenstein, now based in Zurich, consists of childhood friends Florin Büchel (aka CCO), Michael Büchel (aka Kejeblos), David Sele, Roger Szedalik and Sandro Nardi. All of them already worked on records for the label (f.e. “The Family Mattress”, “Just Me No You”, “Cosmic Inflation”) and Roger Szedalik’s guitar playing can be heard on releases by Lexx, Foster and Fuga Ronto. To finally put an EP out with brand new material by Wavetest was a matter very close to the label’s heart. Moreover it’s almost eight years since their last record (the “For Real” EP on Drumpoet Community) and frequent live gigs in Zurich’s bustling nightlife scene had fueled expectations for this release. “Wrong Planet” is a perfect contribution to Phantom Island’s catalogue. “Hanstraum (Love Mix)” is probably the one track of the threesome that will cause a stirr on the dancefloor, most preferably on one situated on a beach or a cozy rooftoop.“Zappelon” and the title track “Wrong Planet” invite you to zone out, drift away and lose your mind, be it in a club, on an evening run or at home with headphones on.

The people at Antinote are always excited to introduce new names to its roster and Sign Libra, its latest addition, makes no exception to the rule.Released under the moniker Sign Libra, Closer to the Equator is the work of Latvian artist and composer Agata Melnikova. Composed for a contemporary ballet at Latvian National Opera in Riga, the music on this record strongly relies on Melnikova’s appreciation of BBC-produced nature documentaries. Projecting the life of each creature that inhabits the British TV-program into her very personal and highly synthetized world, Sign Libra lends these microscopic beings her own voice. Each song works like a musical “tableau” in which the main protagonists – plants and animals – come on stage to play their part in a ballet carefully choreographed by the Latvian artist.Sign Libra’s mental and musical incarnations of the microcosm of the rainforest have something to do with Software’s album populated by exotic insects and crawling plants, a “Carnaval des Animaux” released on Sky by a MIDI-addicted Hector Berlioz. These microscopic beings incarnate themselves in resonated melodies that echo through a technicolour rainforest, while winds blow through holographic ferns, vines and palms.Closer To The Equator synthesizes visions panning treetops as the sun’s rays pierce through clouds nearby. Sign Libra takes you into a harmonic world that shines brightly wherever you stand, and offers a genuine synesthetic experience.

Distant Images is D.K.’s fourth release on Antinote and we can say quite safely that Dang Khoa Chau fueled a few identifiable obsessions over the years – for those familiar with his work, it probably won’t feel like uncharted territory when they’ll hear a somehow well-known guitar in the background of the title-track..What time spent collaborating with D.K. also showed us is how much his sound magnified itself and its textures sharpened for the past three years. We now know for sure that his music only seems versatile on the surface as Distant Images confirms that the Paris-based musician has been, in fact, digging deeper in the same direction; each new record working like a diaphragm, always more precisely adjusted to capture his inner vision. It feels, for instance, like D.K.’s music is constantly trying to reach a higher level of vanescence from one record to an other, a process which possibly accelerated after a visit from Suzanne Kraft – who he recorded an album with, earlier this year (coming out on Melody As Truth). With Distant Images, D.K.’s sound also took a step further into reality – the most attentive ears will hear seagulls on Distant Images while rain is softly falling on Leaving – and slightly departed from the digital universes that hisprevious records seemed to set in motion. From the most abstract songs – like the Steve Reich-ian Shaker Loops – to the most evocative ones, the five compositions on Distant Images are like stained glass, gently filtering natural light. It is therefore no coincidence if, of all the senses, the titles of the songs mostly refer to Sight: close your eyes while listening to the cinematographic Days Of Steam and visions of an industrious city might appearbefore you.The beauty that emanates from Distant Images is of a diaphanous kind and the record a collection of kaleidoscopic moments.

The third outing for Modern Manners emerges on the back of two very strong 12"s that introduced this anonymous outfit to the world. "Timeless Vibe" continues where the last release left off, building up a wonderfully cosmic bed of processed melody under which casual hand played percussion and warm bass notes can linger. "Azzahar" too keeps things pleasantly soporific with its gentle pace and lilting guitar refrains, and then "Middle East Manners" rounds this excellent trio of EPs out with a beautifully realised swirl of sounds that find focus once a kick drum starts pulsing and the percussion starts building. Quite who Modern Manners are is a mystery at this stage, but across these three 12"s they've certainly made their presence felt in the softest, most laid back of ways.

For the first time ever on vinyl after 36 years, the most wanted Susana Estrada track, “Espacial”, only previously available on the lost "Machos" cassette, and featuring two new remixes by Tiney (DE) and Nixxon (DK).Susana is possibly the most acclaimed superstar of the Spanish "destape" b movies era and this was the "soundtrack" of one of her most famous sexy live shows, hence probably only distributed on site and therefore very rare."Para que el erotismo alcance la categoria de espectaculo, es imprescindible que la primera actriz del "show" se llame SUSANA ESTRADA. La unica estrella del sexy-business que tenemos en este pais. SUSANA sabe trasladar al escenario toda la fuerza de las manifestaciones sexuales libertarias, que sirven en cierto modo de denuncia a las frustraciones y tabues de los que han sido incapaces de llegar las amplias fronteras y posibilidades que ofrece el sexo" (from the promotional info sheet of the album "Amor Y Libertad", 1979).

Some 18 months on from the release of his acclaimed Exit Strategies 12”, Jonny Nash returns with Eden, an album recorded in Bali and the United Kingdom throughout 2016. While many of his aural trademarks are present - think glistening guitars, drifting synthesizer chords and subtle piano motifs - Eden feels a little different: humid, dense and decidely "murkier" than previous outings.Check, for example, the gently pulsing rhythms, layered vocal samples and hazy ambient house era textures of "Maroon Crisp", or the sparkling melodies, chiming percussion and bubbly drum machine matters of "Ding Repair"; both tracks are as beautiful and life-affirming as you'd expect, but feel far more widescreen in vision. Eden is full of these kind of moments. There's the undulating mysticism of "Conversations With Mike", the delay-laden, outer-space ambience of "Down At Babakan", and the crystal clear brilliance of closer "Lime".

Another debut producer joins the ranks of Slow Motion with a distinctive take on some classic sounds. Armonics hails from Bari, deep in the Italian south and his first EP is at turns blissful, jacking and dare we say, playful. For a first EP, Armonics has certainly nailed his musical colours to the mast. Crossing with ease between disco, Balearic and an indefinable X-factor!

After a few years spent in quiet reflection during his introduction to the wonders of fatherhood, In Relationen emerges as both a refined and mature comeback, as well as a distinct newbeginning for the long-time Berlin producer. The pensive character, delicate emotional undertones, and careful lines drawn with precise tension across restrained arrangements may sound familiar to fans of his earlier work, but there is now a greater sense of calm, an openness that rewardslisteners both on and off the dance-floor. As contemplative as it may be, In Relationen still rocks, particularly on the title track, where a frontal psychedelic guitar line gently weeps across a haunting, hypnotic field of rhythm. The krautrock influence runs deep, not in a superficial way but in the depths of the music: atop the rolling, pastoral grooves, the vibe of a bright German mind reorganizing itself to a new framework, re-aligning to a fresh phase of life, finding deeper communion with the world through the discovered balance of inner peace.

Release:2016 / UK – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
After whetting our appetites with a superb taster 12” earlier in the year, Music For Dreams now bring us the full double vinyl release of ‘Volume 1’, the hotly-anticipated debut LP from Ambala aka Phil Mison, the original Cafe Del Mar DJ, collector extraordinaire and all-round Balearic don.Ambala continues Mison’s extremely fruitful 15-year plus relationship with Kenneth Bager’s Music For Dreams label which has seen him release material both as Cantoma and Frontera. This brand-new project was recorded in collaboration with Danish musician and engineer Volmer across a series of weekend sojourns in the scenic streets of Copenhagen and showcases yet another side of prolific producer Mison. He says: "Ever since I first met Kenneth Bager at Roskilde Festival in 1992, where I recognised his outlandish dress sense from photos I’d seen in i-D magazine, we have been friends. It was the start of a long musical relationship, where we eventually started working together. My first Cantoma album was recorded for Music For Dreams in the early 2006. The Frontera project with Pete Herbert was realized a couple of years later. Last year we decided it was time for something new, which led to recording Ambala over the past year in Copenhagen together with Thomas Volmer Schulz.”This 10-track album reflects Mison’s renowned eclectic tastes with a wide variety of sounds including the magical summery Caribbean house of ‘Calypso Beach’ (the first single); slow African chugger ‘Bambari’; 80s Italo-disco inspired ‘Alla Vita’; quirky old-school house in ‘Sergio’s Dance’; vintage sunset ambient ‘Last Swimmer’; eighties soul infused house groove ‘Union’; Cantoma-style chilled Balearic track ‘Zarago’; ‘High Line’, an Italo-house style funky organ-driven groove wrought out of old school drum machines and soulful keys; ‘Sol Serra’ featuring classical Spanish flamenco guitaristJacob Gurevitsch; the cool deepness of ‘Distant Island; plus a wonderful vocal cameo from Danish legends Laid Back on ‘Walk With The Dreamers’. A perfect soundtrack to summer and beyond - don’t miss this limited vinyl edition.
