Veteran NYC based Scottish electronic musician Drew McDowall's latest work is his loftiest, most liturgical, and least industrial outing to date - and potentially the apex of his recent discography. Named after an ancient Greek word for votive offering, Agalma exudes a hooded, devotional aura, creaking and keeling under vast rafters of stone, stained glass, and shredded wires. It's a music of majesty and mystery but also modernity, McDowall's refined modular system shape-shifting strings, piano, pipe organ, and choral masses into disorienting synthetic mirages of the sacred. He cites the intersection of "joy, terror, and the elegiac" as a centering inspiration - or, phrased more bluntly, "that 'what the fuck is going on' feeling."As a career collaborator himself, with stints in Coil, Psychic TV, and countless other shorter-lived partnerships, it's telling that McDowall chose this project to gather such an impressive spectrum of peers. Italian synthesist Caterina Barbieri, American drone organist Kali Malone, prolific multi-instrumentalist Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, operatic Humanbeast vocalist Maralie Armstrong-Rial, Saudi producer Msylma, and warped futurist beat-makers Bashar Suleiman and Elvin Brandhi cameo across the album's 42 minutes, contouring McDowall's nuanced negative spaces with shudders, shadows, and shivering flickers of serenity. Each of them shines in their spotlight, elevating these elusive alchemical states into surreal revelations of texture and transcendence.McDowall's original working title for the record is revealing: Ritual Music. He speaks of his creative practice in ceremonial terms, negating binaries by seeking the middle path to a numinous equilibrium that erases the distinction between the inner and outer worlds. These compositions feel similarly processional and intuitive, at the crossroads of holiness and hallucination, the sacred vertigo of yawning naves rising into untouchable night skies. It's a vision of industrial music as enigma and invocation, cryptic hymnals of shrou...

Ghedalia Tazartes - Diasporas Black Vinyl Edition
Ghedalia Tazartes
Diasporas Black Vinyl Edition
LP | 2020 | US | Original (Dais)
21,99 €*
Release:2020 / US – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Originally recorded in 1977, following a limited release in 1979, Ghedalia Tazartes debut album, Diasporas, introduced listeners to the surreal, mysterious and truly unclassifiable statement of Tazartes and his out-of-time place in the French avant-garde canon. Born in Paris in 1947 to Judaeo-Spanish parents of Greek descent, Tazartes spent his early career as an autodidact utilizing his knowledge of repetition and collage, coupled with his Ladino linguistic heritage, to create some of the most unique recordings of the late 20th century. Interest in the works of Tazartes truly sparked when artist Steve Stapleton included his follow up album, Tazartes' Transports, in his famed "Nurse With Wound List," thus adding endless curiosity to the folklore behind Tazartes and his mystical entree. From the onset of Diasporas, looping incantations seemingly pile up at the behest of Tazartes. In almost a prayer-like decree, Tazartes chants to the gods in an undefined whail that is both haunting and spiritually divine. Tazartes unique use of tape loops to capture the disappearing traditions of his family's past creates an atmospheric texture that unexpectedly complements his cut-up, manipulated vocal experiments. While contemporaries within the French avant-garde maneuvered academic theory and rigid tradition, Diasporas strays away from these boundaries, working in Tazartes' invented practice of 'impromuz', a method in which he endlessly records for hours and edits only the moments that display any sense of spontaneous enlightenment. Further emboldening the obtuse nature of Diasporas are the seemingly random recitation of poet Stephane Mallarme and the traditional 'Parisian-style' piano accompaniment of experimental composer Michel Chion. Since its initial release over 40 years ago, both Dais Records and Alga Marghen have released reissues of Diasporas in various formats, all of which quickly fell out of print. Dais Records presents an official reissue, newly remastered by Josh Bonati, utilizing the original artwork of Diasporas in its sole album form, for the first time in over four decades.

Meta Black Vinyl Edition
LP | 2019 | EU | Original (Dais)

Release:2019 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Recorded on the heels of their debut album If Two World Kiss (Also reissued by Dais on August 9th) and informed by the band's oscillating live synergy and bolstered by a boon of new equipment and texture, Pink Turns Blue's sophomore album Meta (1988) was a conceptual leap predicated by the study of sound and exploration of its edges. With the same fervor that Joy Division mined deeper, darker, and less linear on Closer, Meta is a cohesive meditation on atmosphere and how every note and passage can traverse space individually and as part of a larger narrative. Singles "Touch the Skies" and "Your Master Is Calling" are the albums cornerstones; airy, steady, and driving tracks with a depth of melody and orchestration that sparked a shimmering new example of dark pop. The instrumental balance throughout the album creates a strobe light journey later echoed throughout gothic compatriots exploring minor keys and nocturnal themes.

Spice's Self-Titled debut album offers a deliberate isolation of pain as interpreted through different vehicles. Less than 30-minutes in length, the record diverts from a singular mood, tempo, or delivery, instead focusing on orchestrating emotional drain as single impulses "fast, slow, driving, simple, and layered" that coalesce in their machinations. At its core, Spice's Self-Titled album is wired together by brawny and brittle guitars, lock-groove rhythms, and vocals announce each moment and mood. Formed in 2018 and based across California, each members' roots are in the North Bay of San Francisco. Comprised of Ross Farrar (vocals) and Jake Casarotti (drums), both of Ceremony, along with Cody Sullivan (bass), Ian Simpson (guitar), and Victoria Skudlarek (violin), Spice's sound pulls from the sense of melody and drive inherent to Bay Area pedigree, peppered with modernity and awash with an anthemic haze. The hook is in the connection as much as melody, with each song building its inner narrative and exploration of affliction. Traversing guitar-driven indie-pop and call-to-action impulse, Spice balances their urgency by interspersing violin melodies and layers, creating depth without oversaturating the heart of each song. Building complexity with laser focus, Spice shares the authoritative drive of Jawbreaker, J Church, The Horrors, and Fugazi, set in their own world of unrest. The treatment of each song is a statement that informs the whole - anecdotes that can bleed slowly or swirl quickly. In a sense, the Self-Titled album itself is an entire song, with each track becoming the verses, choruses, and interludes that narrate its intent. Ending with the final track they workshopped for the album titled "I Don't Wanna Die in New York," the album ends with a punch before winding back into meditation. Honed over late nights at Panda Studios in Fremont, California with producer Sam Pura (Basement, The Story So Far, Self Defense Family), Spice spent hours tweaking it until it became a little world formed by what they refer to as "the power of groupthink." Sprinkled with field recordings "audio snapshots from the member's every-day-lives" the record offers an intimate twist that builds on its theme of a single thread that connects everything with continuity, making it a single organism with as many depths as questions.

Founded in Cologne, Germany in 1985, Pink Turns Blue's blend of atmospheric pop informed by European post-punk contemporaries and buzzing punk dissonance of Hüsker Dü (the band is named after the Zen Arcade song) immediately tapped into a new canon of sound that was foundational to the emergence of darkwave. Released in 1987 and now remastered by Josh Bonati for vinyl release through Dais, If Two Worlds Kiss is a seminal offering to the canon of dark wave's DNA - a liquid lesson in melody, mood, and pacing - each track continuously adding to the journey like a unique push pin on a map of melancholy. Defined by their dynamic song-writing, their debut added a new urgency and depth to guitar-driven gothic rock by allowing fast songs such as the lead single "Walking on Both Sides" to possess the same sullen punch and melancholy as slower anthems like "When the Hammer Comes Down", which derives its power on the downbeat. More rhythmic variety is added through beat-driven dancefloor tracks with triumphant singalong choruses like "That Was You", showing they could swing hard - as well as swirl_

Genre:Electronic / Dance, Pop
ADULT. make a triumphant return after their 2018 album "This Behavior", dubbed "_one of the best records of their career_" by Ryan Lathan of Pop Matters. This chilling continuation takes the form of "Perception is/as/of Deception", an anxiety fueled cyclone of pandemonium that only ADULT. would know how to harness. While "This Behavior" was recorded in the isolated snowcovered woods of northern Michigan, "Perception is/as/of Deception" was given life in a temporary space the duo created by painting their windowless basement entirely black, with the sole intention to deprive their senses, question their perceptions, and witness the resulting ramifications. With over 23 years and a sprawling discography left in their wake, Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus have spent their entire career as ADULT. obscuring any defined genre or style. With a history as uncanny as ADULT., the pieces that making up "Perception is/as/of Deception" might be perceived as their most punk-infused and introspective work to date. The elements of frustration and apprehension that have consistently woven throughout their material are at full mast, although augmented by a strident and more "head-on" approach. Tracks like "Have I Started at the End" successfully maintain the duo's classic EBM signatures and synthesized aggression, cradled by a suspicious mantra that questions_.what's the point? "Why Always Why" offers a disorienting mutation of the heralded sounds of classic dance music, like a remix that escaped prison and is on the run. The dystopian anthem, "Total Total Damage", comes in full force with an frantic energy which jolts any bystanders to attention, with only the defiant chants of Kuperus' vocals outlining the ever-degenerating state of societal affairs. The dramatically glam synth parts scattered throughout the album, while at times ominous in nature, seem to also act as a merciful reminder that through the journey of "Perception is/as/of Deception", one can still enjoy the chaos. With the rampant sense of emptiness on the minds of many these days, there continues to be few attempts at scoring these common, unfortunate human qualities with pure sincerity. Thankfully, ADULT. has a long-standing reputation for creating the soundtrack for our insecurities, and "Perception is/as/of Deception" further solidifies their apprehensive position.

Salt Lake City's indie pop favorites Choir Boy return after four years with the release of their new cosmic album, Gathering Swans. An emotionally powerful record, full of poignant heartbreak and gently steeped in pop nostalgia, Choir Boy push their distinctive sound further, while tenderly romancing the unsuspected. Since the release of their well-received 2016 debut Passive With Desire, of which Slug Magazine's Erin Moore declares to be "...packed with songs that are infectious by way of their sound, as well as their emotion...", and their 2018 single "Sunday Light", the band evolved from singer Adam Klopp's project accompanied by a rotating cast of players into a solidified, permanent lineup featuring long-time collaborator and bassist Chaz Costello, saxophonist and keyboardist Jeff Kleinman, and guitarist Michael Paulsen. Following a series of tours with such notable acts as Cold Cave, Snail Mail, and Ceremony, Choir Boy began writing their new album. Proving to be a worthy successor, Gathering Swans builds upon Choir Boy's infectiousness with unique pop sensibilities and impeccable polish. The first single, Complainer, demonstrates Klopp's angelic voice effortlessly floating within the heart-wrenchingly somber melodies, that in a tender state, will surely render tears. Lyrically, the song poses a form of wounded optimism, declaring "Oh my life, what a pitiful thing to hear...But it's not that bad...I'm just a complainer". Tracks such as Toxic Eye undoubtedly present the touching "choral-pop" sound that has come to be a hallmark of Choir Boy. Repetitious, layered vocal hooks that fade into the background, allowing the absence between breaths to be filled with the serene melody that embodies the foundation of Choir Boy's appeal, demonstrating that the ethereal moments between the bright choruses and memorable hooks are as equally crucial and unforgettable as the lyrical content itself. A slightly more solemn ballad, Eat The Frog, skillfully adapts Choir Boy's taste for nostalgia and translates such desire into a fully mature statement. The propulsive drive behind Eat The Frog possesses the emotional equivalent to sitting atop a hillside, just outside of the city, gazing at the sunset on a warm Summer night. Creative, sincere, passionate and glaring with intention, Gathering Swans paints a bright, hopeful, and deeply heartfelt image that will most assuredly attract anyone who accompanies Choir Boy upon their journey.

For fans of Demdike Stare, Raime, Caterina Barbieri, Kangding Ray, Christina Vantzou and Laurel Halo! In her most personally narrative work to date, A Fossil Begins To Bray is the follow up on Dais Records for NYC producer Hiro Kone (AKA Nicky Mao), furthering the dialogue set forth on her 2018 release, Pure Expenditure. While the statements on Pure Expenditure rallied behind a point of dangerous excess and injustice, the material on A Fossil Begins To Bray embark upon a journey of discovery and self-analysis, proposing a potential reorientation towards absence in hopes of illuminating potential futures. In Mao's own words, "This album considers the power of absence as neither a lack or deficit, but as a quiet, indeterminable force to cultivate in this time of looming and unrelenting techno-fascism. It asks that we take pause to consider our learned languages and actualities and to better consider how desire shapes our recollections and interpretations of this 'existence.'" This allegory is expertly applied to every song on A Fossil Begins To Bray. Mao has established a long history of employing absence in her productions to maximum effect. With a vast assortment of diverse elements at play, no single track ever feels overly convoluted and further illustrates Hiro Kone's skillful attention to dynamic tension and flow. Tracks such as "Fabrication of Silence" and "Submerged Dragon" perfectly represent the power of absence, utilized in a matter to create unique amalgams of decisive, cinematic techno rhythms from the electronic void. As the melodic elements contained within A Fossil Begins To Bray begin to unravel and slowly take form, the unaware are rewarded with a driving yet tangible refrain that offers resolve in contrast to the dense, texture-laden backdrop that forms the album's foundation. The first single, "Feed My Ancestors", expands upon Hiro Kone's signature take on electronic music structures. Seemingly free from the predictable contracts imposed by any one genre's stereotypes, Hiro Kone...

Over The Years, American Composer Rafael Anton Irisarri Has Become Ubiquitous Within The Spheres Of Ambient, Drone And Electronic Music. Whether It's Through Irisarri's Celestial Long-Form Albums Or His Lauded Audio Engineering Credentialsfor Countless Artists And Labels, Irisarri's Consistent Dedication To His Craft Never Wavers From The Forefront. While Irisarri's Compositions Typically Field An Array Of Modern Ambient Overtones Threaded Through Oceanic Symphonies With Tape Loops, Bowed Electric Guitar And Vast Washes Of Overdriven Sound, His Recent Debut Album For Dais Records, Peripeteia, Portrays These Common Themes Giving Way To Metal And Classicalinfluences That Emphasizes Irisarri's Melancholic Tendencies. These Unique Overtures, Coupled With His Signature Layering Of Distortion And Bleached-Out Textures, Fabricate An Audible Environment That Would Seemingly Be At Odds With,Yet Gracefully Complement Each Other. In Irisarri's Own Words, "My Previous Works Internalize Any Exterior Forces Or Circumstances, While Trying To Make Sense Of The World. Peripeteia Reverses That Approach, Focusing On The Personal In Order To Tell A Wider Human Story." The Emotional Depth Found Throughout Peripeteia Is Impeccably On Display Withthe Track, Mellified. This Encouraging Glimpse Is Short Lived However, As The Song Refuge/Refuseseemingly Plummets Into The Mourning Depths Of Somber Despair. Upstate New York Artist Tor Lundvall's Music Often Evokes A Sense Of Soft-Focus Autumnal Melancholia But Nowhere Is This Atmosphere More Explicit And Evocative Than His Self-Released 2006 Holiday Album, Yule, Newly Reissued By Dais Records. Inspired By Childhood Memories Of "Cold, Dark Evenings" Waiting For His Mother Outside Shops And Supermarkets While Seasonal Songs Drifted Faintly On The Frozen Air, The Collection Feels Appropriately Hushed And Hypnagogic, Half-Remembered Melodies Heard Through Falling Snow.Steady Muted Rhythmic Pulses Wind Through Wintry Landscapes Of Icy Synthetic Textures, Glass Bells, And Distant Metallic Echoes, Occasionally Framed By Lundvall's Soft, Dazed Vocals, Narrating Scenes Of "Slushy, Illuminated Train Stations" And "The Lonely Trees Of January, Still Entangled With Blue Lights Long After The Season Has Ended." It's A Music Of Barren Branches, Crescent Moons, And Willowy Figures Shuffling And Shivering On Their Way Somewhere, Viewed From A Fogged Window Passing By, Or High Above. As With Lundvall's Signature Oil Paintings, Yule's Sonic Vignettes Are Works Of Observation, Poetic Glimpses Rendered In Gradients Of Color And Quiet. He Has Referred To His Music In The Past As "Ghost Ambient" And, Although His Songwriting Here Skews More Foreground Than Background, The Phrase Aptly Captures The Haunted, Half-Light Quality Of These Fragile Tracks. 10 Miniatures Of Wreathed Streets And Silent Woods, Of Twinkling Store Windows Seen From A Distance, The Sensation Of Being Outside Of Life Looking In - The Sentiments That Seeded Lundvall's Vision Remain Undimmed: "There Was A Special Melancholic Beauty About These Moments That Has Never Left Me."

After swapping hemispheres, Australian outfit Death Bells have found a new home in Los Angeles, emerging with a new album of fervent guitar-driven rock, stripped of gloom and punching through with a new sense of positivity. Rather than leaping genres or formats, New Signs of Life is refined and nuancedâÇ"a methodology built on process, craft, and perspective.Following their 2017 debut, Standing at the Edge of the World, and follow-up single "Echoes," Death Bells left their hometown of Sydney for the United States. Aleph is often defined as the "oneness of God", and Cardiff, UK indie pop outfit Private World thematically embrace the sentiment on their debut album for Dais while eschewing pop conventions, simultaneously navigating and subverting its context. Rather than individual tracks that inform a greater narrative, Aleph finds members Harry Jowett and Tom Sanders weaving in and out of a space they call the "pop psyche," where songs become scenes in a collective exploration of sentimentality and melody. In a sense, the songs that comprise Aleph are soothing vehicles that dart about pop history, stopping at touchpoints throughout the '80s to borrow from jazztinged synth, ambient music, and even cinéma-vérité. The plot twist is while weaving this tapestry, they omit the familiarity of chorus-driven song, allowing space and mood to build melancholy transitions that feel whole and floaty. As much as their single "On the Run," released with Dais in 2019, touched on this hushed world of memory, Aleph retains Private World's DNA but tames the dynamics of pop with Eno-esque intention. Aleph is an album you can pick up at any entry point and loop into its conscious nostalgia. Rather than singular statements, each song on the album nods to Roxy Music, Peter Gabriel, Talk Talk, Spandau Ballet in tandem. In a sense, it's a rolling piece that spans ten movements, each informing a sphere of culture. Though it's not forward-facing lyrically, Aleph is a culture driven work, as the duo offers it as an equalizer that transcends social boundaries or divisions - united passages meant to be heard and immersed by all. On its own, "Blue Spirit," is very much the album's mission statement, as vocal unapologetically indebted to Brian Ferry leads the way over a gated beat as instruments pulse in and out, punctuating the rhythm before disappearing into the echoes of the next moment. One second over five minutes in length, "Magic Lens," is Aleph's most direct and authoritative, without disrupting its tonality. As Tom Sanders delivers a syncopated vocal, the track lightly sprinkles synth washes and prominent bass accents that plod out atmospheric pattern. Embracing the overarching north star for their sound to be a return to sophistication, Aleph embodies the sentiment by redefining it. Yes, the album's sounds work back to the masters of synth-pop but the actual journey bounds forward with vivid personality and contemporary control. Private World offers a singular embrace of the pop psyche -- and a startlingly refreshing debut.

For fans of Throbbing Gristle, Hide, SPK, Puce Mary, Quirke,Pharmakon, Pod Blotz, Rrose, Bergsonist, Street Sects.Brooklyn-based outfit Wetware (Roxy Farman and Matt Morandi) return with the intense follow-up album to 2018's Automatic Drawing, an electronic dirge, simply titled: FlailFormed in 2015 and known for their odd and unpredictable live performances, Wetware's new album captures this disorienting confusion in a series of definitive documents that encompass a concentrated, noisier sound that pushes and pulls against electronic textures and frenetic vocals, creating a palate of wild, unhinged sonic collages.Presented across eleven new tracks in a tightly wrapped and smartly delivered album, Flail is exemplary of Wetware's dynamics and tension. The 42 seconds of "Car Dancer," act as a trailer for tension, setting up the episodic blast of "Kismet," challenging the listener to find a wall to grab. Lead single "Exaggerated Bliss" pulsates before spinning unexpectedly into a chilling spoken narrative. Bitterly terse storytelling follows the staccato map of emotion, and as sparse as "Divided In Halves" is, "Rivalries Regulars" immediately answers with a dense oration that features Farman cursing "I know the reason for it" in stoic repetition, agnostic of rhythm yet in sync with mania. "Shiny Face" furthers the band's ability to create space with sound, using drone layering and drilling vocals before locking into meditation. Frequency becomes potency, as the track traverses speed, rhythm, and dire sparsity. Ending with the atmospheric jaunt, "Horse Pistol," Flail draws from the dearth of clarity that informed No Wave and early-Industrial music through a modern lens offering no deft solutions, allowing the album to circle infinitely in the fading present, fostering a window into modern paranoia.

"Unexplainable" may well be the best explanation for the members of the UK based electronic outfit Coil. Making a radical shift from intentional accessibility, by means of traditional pop songwriting, to abstract happenstance, Coil had entered into a new phase of their career. Utilising what was then the newest computer technology, digital and analog synthesis and the newly formed idea that something outside of themselves was steering the ship. During the studio sessions that developed into what would become "Worship the Glitch", Coil became aware of random compositions emitting from their equipment and were seemingly at odds with the constant "accidents" that were perpetually plaguing the recordings. The band blamed these unintentional emissions on "ELpH": a conceptual being that is one part physical equipment failure and one part celestial fiend_ constantly playing the role of trickster by throwing a wrench into Coil's methodology. Eventually, these accidents and mistakes were embraced by the band and the process of misusing audio software to create intentional "errors" was adopted as a musical technique. The acceptance of the "mistake", and the use of discovered faults as intentional elements slowly became the drive and concept behind the album, thus birthing the title "Worship the Glitch." Originally released in 1995 on Coil's in-house imprint Eskaton, Worship the Glitch was Coil's first proper album-length attempt at conceptual ambient composition, with a radical focus on chance. Seamless vignettes of shattered electronics, though ebbing softly and in delicate balance with each other, provide an underlying uncertainty and discomfort to the listener. Remastered by engineer Josh Bonati and supervised by Coil's Drew McDowall, Worship The Glitch is expanded onto double vinyl LP and packaged within a matte gatefold jacket with a replica vellum track listing insert and sticker. The compact disc edition in a matte card stock digipack with redesigned packaging.

ADULT. make a triumphant return after their 2018 album "This Behavior", dubbed "_one of the best records of their career_" by Ryan Lathan of Pop Matters.

Pod Blotz began in 2002 and has released over 25 cassette and vinyl releases via labels such as L.I.E.S., Difficult Interactions, Clan Destine, Chocolate Monk, and Dungeon Taxis. Over the years the project has included a number of guest members and performance artists, but has solely remained the brainchild of Suzy Poling. The prolific experimentalist now makes her Dais debut with the emotionally crushing Transdimensional System. The record was recorded at Poling's studio in Downtown Los Angeles, primarily using sounds and samples collected from the Vintage Synthesizer Museum in Oakland, CA. The record twists and turns throughout space like a writhing exorcism unfurling upon the unsuspecting listener. It's a journey about beauty, and the complexity of posthuman existence through a cathartic lens of churning rhythms and haunting vocal work. The aptly titled `Pain Is A Door' presents a perfectly chilling introduction to the record. A steadily trudging bassline provides an unwavering foundation for the dissonant, bell-like melody to uneasily drift back and forth creating an uncomfortable sense of, somehow satisfying, disharmony. Heavily textured noise weaves in and out of the foreground fighting for the listener's attention as ominous choral sounding vocals begin to gradually bubble to the surface. Lead single `Life Like An Electric Surge' unfolds like a twisted wave-tinged track with pulsing rhythm, percussion and noise elements that are dead set on pummeling the unwitting listener into complete submission - the culmination of which effectively embodies its title. Intertwined within the rushing wall of driving rhythm sits Poling's washed out vocals, wrapped in a haze of distortion. Chanting "Life like an electric surge, no conceptions, straight to the void" the listener gains insight into the otherworldly, post-human, resolve of Suzy's proposed future.

SRSQ is the solo project of singer and songwriter Kennedy Ashlyn, the founding member of the bay-area dream pop duo Them Are Us Too. SRSQ's pulse began after the loss of Kennedy's closest friend and Them Are Us Too collaborator, Cash Askew, in the tragic Ghost Ship fire of 2016. Driven by this sudden, heartbreaking loss, SRSQ became the vehicle for Kennedy's transformative process for her to explore nostalgia, reflection, and reconciliation, manifesting in the aural landscape of her 2018 debut album, Unreality. It's been a year since the release of Unreality and 2019 has taken SRSQ around the world, touring extensively with Black Queen and Uniform, sold out performances in support of Cold Cave and Godflesh, and upcoming tours in support of Torche and label-mates Drab Majesty. Amid performances and writing in preparation for her upcoming 2020 album, Ashlyn went into the studio with producer Jorge Albrecht, who mixed down two new tracks featured on the 7" single Temporal Love b/w Unkept.Wrapped in ethereal gauze and dreamlike textures, what SRSQ presents on this single are undeniably love songs. Wrought with longing, Ashlyn commands on "Temporal Love": "Kissing you once more could not erase the time, wishing it was the same as it ever was..." her ethereal, soprano-like voice weaving effortlessly through soaring electronics as if the structure of the song itself is her creative playground. Joined in duet by True Body vocalist Isabel Moreno, "Temporal Love" conjures images of heartbreak and a relationship dissolved - perhaps regrettably. The B-side, "Unkept" presents an almost ceremonial incantation channeling the likes of Lisa Gerrard's finest moments. Stirring in echoes and reverb, Ashlyn emerges alongside a slow and steady beat - rising and building: "Speak softly, my love" to create the perfect counter-balance to the dreamy pop sensibilities of "Temporal Love."Temporal Love b/w Unkept was produced by Kennedy Ashlyn, mixed by Jorge Albrecht and mastered by Josh Bonati. The single comes packaged in a po...

Seemingly free from the predictable contracts imposed by any one genre's stereotypes, Hiro Kone throttl...

Technology was meant to be humanity's tool to combat famine, disease, confusion, and to facilitate life, culture, and innovation. Instead, we're mired in a digital labyrinth that few care to navigate or even solve. Perhaps it's not a ruse and the matrices coded by keyboard maestros are a path to liberation, but without querying the constructs we cannot ruminate on their affectations on humanity. VR SEX are audio/visual provocateurs who transpose the identifiers of death rock, synth punk, post-punk, ambient, and ethereal soundscapes into an audit on technology and its imprint on our collective psyche. Their debut EP, recorded solely by visionary mercenary Noel Skum (Andrew Clinco of Drab Majesty/Marriages) and initially released as a limited edition cassette in April 2019. Through PSRS or Procreation Simulation Reproduction Stimulation, humans can act on their hedonistic desires and not face the responsibilities and consequences that come with being an ill-prepared guardian. The future of our offspring will exist in virtual realms and population growth in turn will be stabilized. VR SEX is the cure to most societal ills. Rather than being emblematic of influences, each song by VR SEX infuses a dire tension that cuts shimmer with fetid frequencies, never establishing an aural hierarchy or urgency. Instead, we're led into punchy capsules of "dour pop"; the balance of saccharine and sour so emblematic of the VR SEX hive mind. DAIS Records releases VR SEX's "Horseplay" EP on October 25, 2019 in new limited edition 12" vinyl formats. Horseplay offers an extension of VR SEX in decay. Noel Skum helms all instruments for this home-recorded release, which was mixed to tape by engineer Mike Kriebel.

Genre:Rock / Indie
HIDE are an electronic duo based in Chicago, made up of fine artist Gabel and percussionist Seth Sher. Together since 2014, the pair create sample based compositions using a combination of self sourced field recordings and V.A. pop culture/media. HIDE's second full length album Hell is Here on Dais sees the band's evolution pushed even further. The tone is sick and heavy. Using their previously established blueprint of complex drum programming, stomach churning sub bass and aggressive expressive vocals, Gabel and Sher poke and prod at the perception of musical context, and remind the listener that feelings of anxiety, pain, and discomfort are equally as important as those of resolution. Perhaps the strongest tool utilized here is the material's dichotomy between the abrasive and the sterile. Beneath the crushing noisy exterior, sparks the familiar human voice. Divorced from their caustic counterparts Gabel's vocals play a decisive role in cementing narrative for the material's uncompromising assault on the senses. The summation of material presented on Hell Is Here is perhaps best interpreted as the rawest innards of HIDE's vision for the self-governing ideology that's consistently present throughout their body of work. Painful truth and honest examination of life's darkest, and often undiscussed, crevices scratch and claw their way to the surface through the duo's strongest and most confrontational work to date.

Since the 2014 release of Philly outfit Death Of Lovers' acclaimed debut EP Buried Under a World of Roses, many wondered if a full length follow-up for the band was even possible—largely due to the extensive touring schedule of Domenic, Nick and Kyle's other band: Nothing. But between 2016 and 2017, the four piece band (that includes keyboard player CC Loo) was able to find the time to focus, demo, write, and carve out a stunning new direction and polished sound for the band. The Acrobat represents that labor of love, and Death of Lovers have created one of the most eye-opening alternative records we’ve heard in years. Thoughtful compositions weave driving synths, drums and guitars through lock-step rhythm and nostalgia before shattering into intricate and spacious instrumental breaks. There is a welcome complexity and depth to the tracks, which dance between moody and sweeping to sparkling and bright—reating a beautiful contrast to the honest and dark lyrics. Somehow, The Acrobat achieves warm familiarity while sounding completely new. While the tracks could easily have been included on the soundtrack to every one of your favorite '80s films, there is a fresh perspective and process evident in the songwriting that rewrites the “post-punk” rulebook.
