Daje Funk’s quick-fire 5th release keeps their homegrown Italian theme going as it pairs Padova’s Paul Older with Rome born and now Sardinian based producer and Viaggio label boss Musta.
Seamlessly moving up from 7” to 10” on this EP presumably so they can cram even more groove in it’s a dynamite and exciting pairing.
Continuing with the club focussed funk style of previous releases Paul Olders ‘Sax Francisco’ screams 1970’s like it’s been perfectly transported from a film soundtrack where the police are chasing suspects through a crumbling industrial complex at the start of the show.
A bubbling bassline and that eponymous sax do the damage here. Freeform sax changes into looped up notes powering the breakdowns then into sublime jazz funk all the while perfectly re-imagined for 2020. It’s full of energy and verve aplenty.
Over on the flip Musta’s ‘Groovin’ It’ is packed with an altogether deeper funk. It’s a record in a hurry, one which wants to head straight to the dancefloor for a lo-fi funk-off. Big bass and spaced out vocals run things perfectly before a distant trumpet pushes the track onwards. ‘Groovin’ It’ is a real combination of styles. Dominating is electric Funk which is combined with Blues refrains, Jazz licks and some added African overtones just for good measure. They all come together for an energy packed club track which will undoubtedly pick up heavy DJ support.
Another sublime release from the Daje Funk team.

Daje Funk Records is a scintillating new label releasing on the increasingly popular 7” format. They are shrouded in mystery but one thing is for sure on the strength of the first couple of releases this is a label which is definitely going to excite and turn some heads in equal measures.
Coming in heavy with their first release DFR01 is a double sider featuring Italian vinyl connoisseur Les Inferno going to town on Green Hall’s 'Dance Understand' on one side and another super hot Italian producer De Gama tearing up Ron Jay’s 'Some More' on the flip.
Les Inferno’s kicks off proceedings for the label with a wonderfully driven dancefloor smash as he gets to grips with the blues tinged funk of Green Hall. Working in a beautifully sculptured bassline and some great drums he has looped, chopped and filtered Green Hall to perfection. Slivers of vocal, hammond keys and heavy reverbs all come into play on a peak time dance-floor masterpiece.
De Gama not to be outdone sprinkles some speaker shaking magic through Ron Jay’s Lalo Schifrin influenced ’Some More’. A deep groove fuelled bass-line works perfectly with 70’s disco flutes, brass stabs and hammond keys. These add fuel to a fire which is sparked into life by a wonderful ‘Give Us Some More’ vocal chant which in itself sports some rather feisty harmonies.
As first releases go this destined to be a bit of a classic.

With Samosa’s disco imprints currently dominating the vinyl charts in all the best record shops across the globe it’s safe to say that their Funk imprint Daje Funk is also making waves that are hard to miss. Just off the back of a stellar release with Paul Older and Musta Daje Funk Volume 6 see’s label boss De Gama teaming up with G.Markus for yet another top class funk get down. First up is De Gama’s monster ‘Feel The Groove’. I’m not sure if that’s an order or a request but either way it’s impossible not to do just that. Featuring thumping drums, shoulder shaking guitars, filters in all the right places and a sax solo to die for this is just a sublime track which will cause some serious dancefloor scenes. On the flip G. Markus, a pseudonym of the super talented Ben Gomori, drops a modern funk extravaganza in ‘Gwarn’. With those eponymous Funk wah guitars, yet more thumping drums, super tight percussion, some fierce keys and a bassline that just shakes this is true dance-floor gold. Daje Funks catalogue is building into one very serious collection of music. Make sure you check out the other releases right now before they are gone forever.
