Back by popular demand, the same unique spirits that brought forth the sound of Detroit streets and turned it into the futuristic soundscape known as "Techno-Bass", The Original members of AUX 88 have collaborated to re-issue their catalog 25+ years later. Starting with their 1st double pack LP, "Bass Magnetic" (considered to be a mesh of influences between Miami bass and Detroit techno), AUX 88 established themselves in an effort to stay true to their roots in the streets and the clubs creating their own genre into a global dance culture. After the release and production of their own documentary ("AUX88-Portrait of an Electronic Band"), the group celebrates its now classic recordings. Harkening back to its first days on cassette tape to revive a future generation of vinyl aficionados.

Robert Hood
Paradygm Shift Volume 3
12" | 2018 | EU | Original (Dekmantel)
10,99 €*
Release:2018 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Following on from the 2017 LP Paradygm Shift by Robert Hood released on Dekmantel Records, the Detroit legend returns to the imprint to deliver the final installment in a trilogy of EP releases that initially began back in February 2016. Now based in Alabama, the Detroit-techno producer is returning to his roots. Embracing the trademark, minimal, funk techno sounds that defined his earlier career, Paradygm Shift Vol. 3 is classic Hood, operating in new, and uncharted ways. The EP is an extension on the concept as outlayed by Hood during the project’s conceptual stage: ‘‘The idea behind Paradygm Shift is similar to a shift in our focus. We can become so complacent; we are so comfortable with our surroundings, I think this is the time for electronic music to find a new mindset.’’ Kicking off off with ‘Red Machine’, where again parallels can be drawn between the days of Minimal Nation, and Internal Empire – the sound is sparse and brutalistic, representing a challenged future. A progressive melody syncopates along the tracks percussive, backbone, arching its way into the track’s eventual demise. On the B-side, ‘Transform’ provides a composition of stripped, down electro, while taking in the 606 style, and adding additional, textural depth. It’s a track full of subtle melody, and high-ranging claps, that make ‘Transform’ the perfect transitional tool, and standalone floor-filler at the same time.‘Red Machine’ and ‘Transform’ reflect Hood’s modern take on challenging techno. Meditative in their sequenced repetition, the tracks draw you in with their audacious, and memorizing sequences. It’s contemporary techno, albeit techno that reflects Hood’s style and nature. Pulsating, electrifying, with dark undertones, and very much of that Detroit flavour.

Mint Condition - A brand new record label focussed on excavating the outer fringes of classic House and Techno. Unreleased mixes, classics and overlooked gems mined from the last 20+ of contemporary dance music are the order of the day. From Chicago, Detroit and New York to London and beyond, Mint Condition have got their expert digging hats on to bring you exclusive heat and those rarer than rare jams that have been on your wants list for years! Dig in....Detroit's Keith Tucker is a man of many names, the man behind AUX-88, Alien FM, DJ K-1, Optic Nerve and more. If you have even a vague interest in the Motor City's electronic output of the last 20+ years his name will be instantly recognisable as someone who turns out the highest calibre Electro and Techno jams, the type of records that look towards the future for inspiration, existing in the subterranea and sharing the same artistic vision of artists like Juan Atkins Drexciya, Erik Travis, Shake, DJ Stingray and many more. Originally released on Scottish imprint Seventh Sign recordings in 2005 'Detroit Saved My Soul' is a modern classic. It features all the hallmarks of classic 313 Techno and Electro which is to be expected with Tucker behind the boards. First cut 'It's A Mood (Detroit Saved My Soul)' is minimalism done right - stripped back drums with minor synth stabs punctuating flurries of vocoders and KT's voice describing the D as he sees it to us via the medium of music. Killer stuff. 'Elektronik' is up next, almost classically A-U-X sounding, pure Electro beats for the heads. Fast paced machine Funk from 50 years time beamed back to 2017 to tell us what's really up. Oh, watch that bassline, you could get into trouble. Finishing the EP we are treated to 'My Mental State', a slower paced, psychedelic Electro cut with killer drums and rim-shots featuring, again, KT's vox weaving in and out of the mix asking 'where are you, what are you doing?'. Absolutely essential tracks from a modern day Techno legend. Essential stuff.'Detroit Saved My Soul' has been legitimately re-released with the full involvement of Keith Tucker / Seventh Sign recordings for 2017 and remastered by London's Curve Pusher from the original sources especially for Mint Condition. 100% legit, licensed and released. Dug, remastered, repackaged and brought to you by the caring folks at your new favourite reissue label - Mint Condition!

Next up on Greek label Lower Parts is a fierce EP from the one and only DJ Stingray, who serves up one of his strongest releases in a while and, at the same time, marks his comeback with a bang. Featuring a remix by Athens talent Kon001, who Stingray has been meaning to release for years and who got personally handpicked by him for this assignment, the EP’s titles tell us of the Detroit man’s interest in science, biology and evolution and covers plenty of musical styles. Stingray has won plenty of acclaim with serious releases on labels like Naked Lunch, Bleep and Itinerant Dub. He wastes no time here in nailing down a nervy techno groove on ‘Acetylcholine’, with its hurried kicks, electro synths and slithering bass lines all racing along as you do the same. Dendrite is then a half time, lurching number with serious dub weight and serene synths that manages to be beautiful and brutal at the same time. On the flip, ‘eRbB4’ is a slick, journeying bit of electro-techno with real soul and emotion in its bones, before kon001 does Stingray proud with a dynamic, spangled remix that is metallic and reflective, groovy and evocative. This is a killer release from Stingray and is yet another fine offering from Lower Parts.

"Fields Of Light" is an ambitious compilation release containing 6 tracks by BNJMN, Aroy Dee, Lerosa, Metropolis, Perseus Traxx and Tr One, that focuses on other qualities than the usual style-similarities. Here, the focus has been put on some other aspect; their soulful and melancholic nature. On each side 15 minutes of dreamily emotive and sometimes alienating works from these 6 producers have been pressed. Some of them appeared earlier on Photic Fields, others are new here. Among these works you'll find a deep and multilayered sonic excursion (by BNJMN), a dark, futuristic and movie-inspired piece (by Metropolis) and an emotion-drenched late 80's inspired house music-cut (by Perseus Traxx). Each of these tracks may have their moment to be played, some might work on dancefloors while other are 'j ust' for the home-listener. But a true sentimentalist should find these moments.

Desert Labyrinth EP

Release:2013 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Keeping up a high rate of release but just as high level of quality, the Cinematic label turns to German DJ, producer and Exploration label boss Johannes Volk for its next EP, with a typically idiosyncratic remix from Greek dub techno man XDB. Volk has been producing conceptual techno since 2006, debuting with a fine EP on the revered Axis label run by techno royalty Jeff Mills. Since then he has continued to evolve on labels like Steffi's Dolly as well as his own vinyl only imprint, and does so once again on this release. Opening track Desert Labyrinth is built on a firm bed of rubbery kick drums and ticking percussion and is run through with sweet and serene Detroit pads that speak of the future. Some pristine melody work and a nagging, drone like bassline drags you deep down the rabbit hole. The same track gets remixed by XDB, someone with an increasingly high profile thanks to his deep and dubby drone techno labels like Sistrum, Echochord and Diamonds & Pearls. Here he does his trippy, hypnotic, long-form thing once again and elongates Desert Labyrinth into a rolling groove peppered with mildly manic melodies and dramatic pad patterns: it's excellent stuff as ever from the Grecian. Next up Photon Sphere is a more broken, hiccupping beat with expertly defined percussion. It's a jacking track that will make bodies move on the dancefloor but is far from just functional fodder thanks to the delicate way in which pads and synths are layered on top of each other to levitating effect. Charging Particles is a quick licked march through a darkened cosmos with curious chords, lashing FX and a firm focus on the future, as techno should always have. Deep and warm; heady yet propulsive it's emotive techno for mind, body and soul.

Cryovac Recordings enters a new sensible era of home grown production focusing on strong statements of personal style. Cryovac stresses a minimal approach to basic production with a simple soul to shape a tale of sound. The Broke Lighter E.P. is a versatile mix of characters that come together and combine their visions into one vista. This shared space of consciousness is translated to vinyl for your inspection. Cryovac Recordings continues to shine light on every corner of the Detroit Underground to expose a depth of talent that is overlooked. The 19th edition of the Cryovac series is a moody stab at the heart of techno. It starts off with Disc Detroit's upliftingly melancholy 4/4 groover that transforms synth and turns percussion with a steady patience. Dutch Mike executes a smooth assault lead by a 303 harmony, backed by a heavy baseline and flanked by tricky programming that shifts cymbal formations. Vontell C. and his son Vontell F. sneak a dark vibe into the mix with a manic and excitable minimal ballad detuning and nodding out while detailing the burning of pretty things. Andy Garcia applies a minimalized Motown sound via strumming guitar, vintage vocals, and easy beat that rises and falls creating a serene phonic envirorment. Every track on the Broke Lighter is an opportunity to go in a new direction.

The duo of DJ Dex and Esteban Adame as "El Coyote" returns with two smoking dancefloor tracks. "Dream Dealer" takes the Los Hermanos inspired hi tech latin soul template into edgier territory with a thumping kick drum and deep driving bassline. The E2E4 inspired chords and Esteban's wicked solo half way through the track assure "Dream Dealer" will be a highlight in any club set. The flip side "La Frontera" leans more to the moodier Detroit Techno spectrum. The track slowly builds to a melodic hook, a percussive break and a requisite hands in the air moment.

Having had success in the mainstream and an enduring underground presence they are well versed in the art of music. This double-pack 'Cymbolic' originally came out in 1995 and found favour with electronic music fans who sought a deeper edge in their music. It's all here, the trademark drum programming, the epic sense that all of the Burden Bros productions have within them. This is dancefloor music, music for DJ's to utilise, tools, but tools with the deepest soul imaginable. Listen to 'Terraforming' or 'The Symbiont' - perfect examples of driving, almost tribal-esque rhythms fused with strings, synth pads and human feeling. 'Cymbolic' is for you if you're a fan of Detroit Techno, but it's also for those who enjoy the deepest electronic sounds. That's not to say it isn't funky though, these tracks will decimate most dance-floors, and therein lies the secret. Kevin Saunderson's KMS imprint is a label that should require no introduction. The motor city label has been a Techno mainstay since it's inception in 1987. Numerous Detroit luminaries have released classic after classic on the labels hallowed grooves over the last 25+ years and it's influence is still felt in contemporary dance music today. The idea behind the KMS "Origins" series is to shine a light on the lesser known cuts in the KMS vaults as well as the classics that have given the label it's legendary status during it's lifetime.Hot on the heels of the debut collection for the labels 'Origins' series we are pleased to present another stellar selection of jams from the legendary Detroit label's archives. Kicking off EP #2 is the man himself, Anthony 'Shake' Shakir here utilising his Schematics alias to deliver to us the storming almost hardcore-esque 'Shock therapy' from 1992. This cut is rough, raw and is intent on troubling your bass-bins with some low frequency and breakbeats sounding like it's coming straight from the D via Essex! Heavyweight. Following Shake we have Dwayne Jensen with a slamming cut from 2000, lifted from a white label only release this is true school Detroit techno, perfect for dark basements, taking no prisoners! Exclusive to this EP.On the b-side we hand over to the label boss and legend in his own right - Reese! 2 classic jams back to back on 1 side. Both 'Bassline' and 'Funky funk funk' have been road-tested for years and bear the classic hallmarks of this legendary producer. You cannot go wrong with this era Reese material, classic stuff, encapsulating the Detroit sound while retaining that raw energy and vibe that this music is famous for! Heat! 100% legit, compiled with the assistance of Kevin 'Reese' Saunderson and the whole KMS family, Detroit, MI.

A year after their impressive last album Burn It Down, Detroit techno legends Octave One are back with a nine track double EP that again shows they are masters of big hypnotic grooves.Entitled Love by Machine, the album's name is a nod to the fact that the Burden brothers are such revered masters of their hardware. Both in the studio, where they cook up atmospheric house and techno with soaring synths and vocals and also in the live arena, where they are celebrated as one of the most accomplished and forward thinking performers in the game today. That is all the more impressive when you bear in mind they have been active since the ‘80s, most often releasing on their own 430 West label, which is where they appear again here.Say Lenny: "We've been exploring the theme of connection with this project. How technology gives us the illusion that we are closer to each other more than ever. At some point humanity crossed a line where the devices that we created to bring us together are the same devices that are blocking us from organic experiences.”"Technology is only a tool, which we also had in mind during the recording process.” Adds Lawrence. "We decided to go back to how we used to make our records, when we didn't have so many ‘sophisticated' audio devices. Back to when we interacted in the studio together as musicians.”Things open up with the loose metallic percussive line that is In Mono, which sets the machine made tone and is filled with promise. Locator then immediately gets to action with a gallivanting techno kick and various synth lines wrapping round each other as you get sucked into the groove. Just Don't Speak (Midnight Sun Redub) is a more deep and house leaning track with big feel good piano keys and slithering synths that will get hands in the air. Proving they have real range, 7 B4 Dawn is a moody and reserved cut with subtle acid pricks, hip swinging claps and a spaced out dead of night feel. The second half of the album offers peak time business in the form of the spectacular Bad Love II, the whirring and cosmic Sounds of Jericho and the big loops and fluid grooves of [Where] Time Collides. Pain Pressure is a wonky number with big bassline and a focus on percussive patterns as well as some vocals with real attitude and last cut 8 B4 Dawn ends things in a downbeat and sombre way with sad chords and emotive strings. It is pure Detroit, much like the whole album, and rounds out another fine release from these most revered veterans.

Detroit isn't just a place. Sure, it IS a place, and those who physically live there know its triumphs and its tragedies far better than anyone else. But Detroit is also a feeling, a sound, a philosophical home for those who connect with the futuristic, dystopian sounds of Detroit techno and electro on a deep level. Those tendrils of connection reach far and wide, bringing people from all over the world into orbit with the people and sounds of the city, connecting through the snap of a snare, the wiggly groove winding its way through the beat, the beauty in the sound of strings, the anger in a bubbling bassline. On this label collaboration between two modern purveyors of techno and electro, Detroit Underground and Detroit Techno Militia have brought their game face and also connected Detroit with producers from elsewhere who've long been tapped into the techno and electro zeitgeist.

The motor city label has been a Techno mainstay since it's inception in 1987.Numerous Detroit luminaries have released classic after classic on the labels hallowed grooves over the last 25+ years and it's influence is still felt in contemporary dance music today. The idea behind the KMS "Origins" series is to shine a light on the lesser known cuts in the KMS vaults as well as the classics that have given the label it's legendary status during it's lifetime. Kicking off EP 001 are Intercity, a collaborative effort between Saunderson, Derrick May and James "Suburban Knight" Pennington. "Groovin without doubt" is the track featured and is typical of the stripped back machine funk that would emanate from Detroit in the coming decades, originally released in 1987 the track still sounds killer on today's dancefloors! Following is the legendary Stacey Pullen aka Cosmic Messenger with his deep, melodic "Soundscape (Intricate mix)", released in 1993 on KMS offshoot label Eclipse the track pushes a supremely futuristic edge that showcases Pullen's prowess as a producer who is often unfairly underrated. Still sounding like it's from another planet "Soundscape" continues to excite and remain contemporary. Side B begins with some classic KMS breakbeat / Rave stylings from Master Reese himself, "You're Mine" is a sample heavy cut n paste monster from 1990, the "original mix" is featured here and still sounds like it weighs a ton, drop this one on a big system and watch the crowd lose it. Often imitated, never bettered! Rounding out the EP we have E-Dancer's "Pump the move", a stripped back, almost tribalish jam from 1991. This is some direct, heads down, dark dancefloor material, driving drums and synth stabs are woven through loose drum programming to create a "runaway train" feeling. Definitely one for the peak time dancefloors! "Origins" 001 will appeal to those who are new to KMS and will serve as the perfect entry point, it will also appeal to the diehard fans who dig that hardcore Detroit sound!

"Illusions" on the A side is a long spiraling snake charmer, designed to seduce a dance floor past the point of no return with lacerating acid. "Sounds Detroit," and "Void" on the B side invoke the spirit of those desiccated warehouses of the American Mid-West where Technology merged with Mysticism. Amen.

New music from K-HAND, the First Lady of Detroit techno, is always a welcome sight, especially when it's on her own highly regarded Acacia label. Before diving fully into the new material, a remix of her familiar classic "Everybody" welcomes listeners to the Intuition EP. TomMy Largo takes it on, paying a lot of respect to the 1993 original in keeping much of its sharp edges intact, but he breathes new life into it using filters and chops to break up its predecessor's relentlessness and deliver something more dynamic, if only slightly, for the modern audience. "Intuition" follows, creating an infectious techno groove out of pulsating synth notes and an underlying bass sequence, both accented by a latin hand percussion swing, but with sounds teased out of machines. The rhythmic base is topped off with urgent and undulating synths of a modular feel as different effects crash in and out, ultimately climaxing in regal chords. "Calling" rounds things out in a menacing slab of techno. It starts with just a kick before layering on harder and harder elements as it builds with industrial scale distortion, delay, and reverb. Fitting right in with the rest of the release, it's a real run away train of sound.

With growing support from techno’s finest selectors, this UK label is fast becoming one-to-watch if sci-fi-laden machine music is your bag. Dark arts 06 rolls out with ‘gallery’, a crafty slab of organ-burning techno. To follow, rugged detuned bass throbs throughout the raw but funky as hell stealth-houser ‘spare groove’. The aquatic electro of ‘opaline’ is a delicate, percussion-driven ride until the chest-caving bottom end hits. To finish, ‘atrium’ is a deadly, percussion packed minimal groove - heads down and eyes closed for this tense space jam.
