Anklepants introduces his brand new album for Detroit Undergroud, a collection of ten cuts, made with his very own arsenal of digital and hardware toys, most of them self made and customised for his purposes. This multi faceted artist creates a blend of twisted ryhthms, synthetic melodies and weird textures and noises, yet danceable stuff but with heavy focus in experimentation and risk.

Pulsewidthmod, creates tracks that are very epic and driving in nature; all of which are recorded as live techno jams using Elektron’s Dark Trinity and an MS20 mini. Her influences from Techno to Industrial, EBM, and Belgium New Beat leaves the listener with some menacing drums and a juxtaposition of both pleasing and disorienting melodies.Serpentine Servitude explores the idea that perhaps the serpent in the garden of eden was really being humanities servant. Who was this creator character to dictate which fruit was ok for us to eat? Who was he or they to say that if we ate the fruit we would be tainted and forever separate from divine love? All this did was create the idea in our consciousness that we were tainted. It is of my personal belief that the idea that we are sinful is the original sin. This God character who created beings in his own image and then dictated how they were to live their life kind of sounds like an over controlling father. Where is mother in all this? The album started with the track “Original Sin” which was originally titled “acid”. Seems somewhat appropriate since the concept of original sin seems to be a violation on humanities consciousness.

Astral Dust is a 4 song excursion bridging the styles of Derek Michael and Marshall Applewhite. This project stems from a live recording of a set performed by Michael in 2002. After being tucked away for almost 15 years, the recording was found and sent to Applewhite who dissected the performance into fragments and breathed a new life into them. While some portions of this release are distinctly sludgy, the majority is a perfect amalgamation of both Michaels and Applewhites hard-edge, melodic borderline IDM styles. The digital release will feature 2 digital only sub cuts from the sessions.

A warm human hand sculpts the icy machine-like sounds into a meticulous harmony over undulating bass and entrancing snares, clasps and industrial heartbeats. This continuous circulation of sound and its ever beating rumbling-flexed sub bass found in Rebecca Goldberg’s newest batch of acid-techno arrangements effectively replicate the natural functions of omega 3, or ω−3, fatty acids albeit in musical-form. Whereas ingesting the special carboxylic acids found in plant and marine oils woll fortify your vascular system into a well-oiled machine, Goldberg is using a table of various analog machines to manifest a similar, yet uniquely propulsive flow of energy through a composite of frenetic hi-hats and trudling kick drums, looping under spacey Rolands waving out reverb splashed frequencies coiling synthetic intonations. The beats reach the feet, the bass unlocks the hips and the synths pull and twist the shoulders, staving off stagnation or decimating a collective clotting - we are loosened in restorative ways to the sleek assemblages of one of Detroit’s leading DJs/composers on the electronic music scene. Goldberg’s 25-minute odyssey is unceasing in its sinuous stream of mesmeric techno music, as if powered on by relentless agents found in the healthful acids for which this EP gets its title.Goldberg has distinguished herself by cultivating the seeds of techno into something that designedly meditates on the enduring vitality of the organic and the holistic in our lives--even as our socialization, and maybe even our dance floors, are predominantly digital in character and operation. ω−3 continues to stimulate our brains in two ways, just like 2017’s 313 Acid Queen. Her previous record used field recordings and found sounds from the shores of Detroit’s Belle Isle and other neighborhood sidestreets to thread the simple majesty of the flora and fauna that sustains even if at the corners of a concrete metropolis. ω−3 is bringing you from the outdoors into the inner workings of your body--particularly the blood cells that act as fuel for your limbs, your lungs and your brain. It’s the ω−3 fatty acids that keep your system strong and smooth. It’s Rebecca Goldberg’s latest acid techno fever dream that keeps you perceiving that (and other things) even as you dance…

Fayze came of age in Windsor, Ontario, a diverse, gritty Canadian city in the immediate shadow of Detroit. During the 1980s, this fortunate geography placed the local scene in the inner orbit of the emergent Detroit techno scene. From that starting point, Fayze fell deeply in love with experimental, original sounds. Today, his innovative, genre-defying soundscapes flirt occasionally with global schools like avant-pop and krautrock, but his sound is all his own. Fayze ’s new music uses vintage analog synthesizers, which he’s been collecting since the early 1990s, to build organic, textural compositions. An idiosyncratic collection of ambient, dreamy soundscapes, the album features inspired collaborations with Detroit, Windsor, and Toronto artists. Its myriad influences include Aphex Twin , Stereolab , Led Zeppelin , and Boards of Canada . A well-travelled creative professional by day, Fayze previously made music with Marc Houle and Marshall Sfalcin of King Kool Flipped . This is his first major solo project.

A modular synthesiser and an urge to find interesting tones, textures and timbres. Ekke ’s second LP Klangfarbenmodular is due to bevreleased by Detroit Underground . It is electronic music with compositions that deal with abstract textures, glitchy beats, nostalgic synth melodies, and sound design. Like the title of the album suggests, one of the main interests for ekke has been finding different interesting tone-colours, textures and timbres. Second very important inspiration for ekke while composing this material was his instrument – modular synthesiser. He has been studying free improvisation and composition on that instrument for years and the instrument has become like a good friend and music teacher for him.

Detroit isn't just a place. Sure, it IS a place, and those who physically live there know its triumphs and its tragedies far better than anyone else. But Detroit is also a feeling, a sound, a philosophical home for those who connect with the futuristic, dystopian sounds of Detroit techno and electro on a deep level. Those tendrils of connection reach far and wide, bringing people from all over the world into orbit with the people and sounds of the city, connecting through the snap of a snare, the wiggly groove winding its way through the beat, the beauty in the sound of strings, the anger in a bubbling bassline. On this label collaboration between two modern purveyors of techno and electro, Detroit Underground and Detroit Techno Militia have brought their game face and also connected Detroit with producers from elsewhere who've long been tapped into the techno and electro zeitgeist.

After a slew of solo releases and a few comps, Marshall Applewhite has teamed up with fellow Detroit native Kero to put together a 4 track collaborative effort that explores both the new sludge phenomenon and the more classic detroit techno/electro sound. Within 4 songs the two have covered a wide base of musical information. Comprised of 2 parts modular gear, 2 parts homemade Reaktor patchwork, and 1 part raw machine funk, Sewer Tracks gives a good representation of each players musical aptitude. A1. Murky Water - Broken drums, raw wave arpeggios and dark strings combine to form an sub worldly tune. A2. Rusty Drainpipe - Big pads, halftime breakups, a synth that sounds like it could fall apart at anytime and floor rattling kicks bring back the real dance floor to detroit techno.B1.Slime Kings - The big 4 on the floor tune. giant arpeggios, jarring low-end and a driving bassline keep this ahead of the techno curve. Finishing things off on the B side Septic Sludge Is the oddball on the Ep, which evokes an ever evolving sense of discomfort through a never-ending off the grid synth pattern and washed out, yet still slamming drums.
