This album by Mort Garson was originally released in 1976, following works s.a. The Zodiac's 'Cosmic Sounds' (1967), 'The Wozard Of Iz' (1968) and Lucifer's 'Black Mass' (1971). Every fan of unique psychedelia (The Zodiac) and mind-bending electronic music (the two others) should certainly lend an ear to these three masterpieces, but there was more to come. 'Plantasia' has been labeled "warm earth music for plants and the people who love them". Revealing a sound that was less dark than heard on his previous releases, this Moog-dominated album offers dreamy and colourful compositions that work like a score to an imaginary movie.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
“All this I do for glory” is a reasoning and exploration of the machinations of ambition and legacy, an examination of the concepts of afterlife, and the first half of a doomed love story in the model of the greek tragedies. As a narrative, it exists temporally somewhere between 2015’s “Never were the way she was” (with Sarah Neufeld) and the 1st volume of the NHW Trilogy. With this, his first solo outing since 2013’s “To See More Light”, Colin Stetson ventures into territory both familiar and strange. Here still, is the dogmatically stripped down approach to performance and capture (all songs recorded live with no overdubs or loops) but there is an immediacy to the album that belies a more invasive and thorough miking of the various instruments being utilized and a seeming influence drawn from the early nineties electronica of artists like Aphex Twin and Autechre, evident in the more pointed role played by the instruments’ many percussive elements. There are ancestries, motivic and timbral, woven through these six songs that plainly anchor them within the shared universe of his Trilogy, though the overall experience is one of extreme intimacy, the sounds and imagery more tangible and immersive than previous offerings. The brief and brutal “In the clinches” recalls (or presages) echoes of songs like “Judges”, though now feeling like one has fallen down the bell of Stetson’s ancient bass saxophone itself. “Spindrift”, crystalline and serene, calls to mind the ambient works of Aphex Twin, while “Between Water and Wind” with it’s “Immigrant Song” swagger, relentlessly carves it’s way into the bedrock here, paving the way with an increasing focus on the minute and the minimal, with a deepened sense of patience shared by most of the album’s six tracks. Engineered and mixed by Stetson himself, this album represents a decidedly independent approach across the entire creative process and finds him at the top of his game, both as a composer and instrumentalist as well as a producer.

Colliding Contours

Release:2016 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Berlin-based duo Driftmachine returns with another striking piece of music. "Colliding Contours" is a shape-shifting album made from kosmische, dub, Industrial and Avant-garde elements. It's all held together by tense grooves and a post-club, eerie electronic atmosphere. The latest work of Driftmachine offers a complex dialogue between genres and music styles, transcending the familiar by generating a peculiar mood through its unique take on modular synthesis and its obsessive bass-structures and detailed rhythmic patterns. Within the haunted electronic spaces of "Colliding Contours" one can find a geometry made of dub and industrial techno lines, intersecting at ominous intervals; an unsettling companion for a late night trip or a tangled state of mind. The album opens with "Radiations", a crawling piece with a slow rebound of electronic shocks fractioning into echoes and reverberations which could be heard as an initial dialogue between operator and machine (an idea Driftmachine formerly explored in their "Eis Heauton" EP). "Sans Soleil", the second cut, introduces the perpetual motion sound sculptures that will be prevalent throughout the rest of the album. Terminal velocity is achieved as they hit the mark inside "Observant Sirens", where the hard shapes drawn between the 'riddim' and the bass reveal the signature style of Driftmachine (formulated in their debut LP "Nocturnes"). Going up and down, with longer suites of meticulous, systematic assembly and darker dub patterns, we reach "Gaukelwerk" diving deep into cosmic space, followed by "Dogov Godov" and its heavy post – industrial steps which are contrasted by ethereal layers of analog oscillation. With "Colliding Contours" Driftmachine, the duo comprised of Andreas Gerth (Tied & Tickled Trio) and Florian Zimmer (Saroos), have built an exhilarating new vehicle to deliver their vision. Go deep into the elegant menace of their sound through the unpredictability of modular synthesis.

What resulted is an absolute brilliant session of pure unadulterated warm techno. Robotnick and Pinsky have deep musical backgrounds in dance music ranging from Italo disco, house, electro-disco, and much more. The project eventually became an album and a live performance. Featured here are the unique original soundtracks from the videos of these tracks which combined have amassed almost 500,000 views along with a remix of each track featured on this special 12”. The original soundtracks to the popular vidoes have never been released on vinyl. Genre:Electronic / Dance
Michigan's ambient and soundtrack specialist John Beltran introduces a new LP that will be co-released by Delsin and his digital only label Dado Records. Entitled Through the Blinds, it features ten tracks by Blair French, who also appeared on his Music For Machine compilation on Delsin last year, and will be released on January 18th 2016. Blair French aka Dial.81 is an experimental producer and visual artist who won an award for his score of Detropia--a documentary about his home city of Detroit--and now makes his ambient debut. As you would expect of such a project, it boasts suspensory and near spiritual pieces of ambient music with angelic chords and glassy textures. There are also more frosty cuts that sound like a chilly Autumn walk, tracks that feature emotive neo-classical piano pieces and suggestively rhythmic compositions that sooth your mind. The second half of the record touches on church like passages of synth heavy sounds, strikingly sad violins and lo-fi arrangements that sound, one hopes, a little like what you might hear as you pass from this life to the next.

On the flipside older brother Central, who recently appeared on the the neighbour-label Nord Records, shows his calmer and more melodic side. The local group Lester, who did the first tape on the label, deliver a playful jam; a groovy exploration of machine dance music. The final grooves of the compilation reveal another uncredited sportive track.

Named after David Cronenberg's first film, Shivers the album readily adopts this concept of body horror, the fear of bodily transformation and infection--a theory and technique that Cronenberg brilliantly captures with his first film and many thereafter.

Medical Records is proud to release it's first compilation LP. Medical has carefully curated a collection of extremely rare and sought after singles and rare tracks. This compilation includes 5 complete A + B sides as well as 2 other tracks that only appeared on obscure compilations in the early 80s. The first 2 tracks are by UK's The Electronic Circus. Featuring Chris Payne (who also performed synth work on the iconic "Pleasure Principle" by none other than Gary Numan), the track "Direct Lines" is pure synthpop perfection. The second featured artist is Boston's Psychic Youth who released one lone 7" in 1982. One of the members, Perry Geyer, was also a founding member of the industrial outfit Manufacture. "Step in Time" and "The Future Is Now" are both dense minimal synth hits. Another excruciatingly rare 7" is the self-titled single by UK's Aaah...! "Slip Away" and "Duty Call s" further fit the bill for moody minimal synthpop greatness. Possibly even more rare is the Shazam single released in 1983 in the UK. The 2 "wild card" tracks if you will on the record are "Panic In Your Mind" by N.A. Pop 2000 (UK) and "Maske" by Berliner Strasse (Yugoslavia). Both tracks were plucked from rare wave compilations from the early 80s. The final single featured is the solo outing by Claude Arto from Mathematiques Modernes. Released in 1981 on Celluloid (France), the 2 tracks drip synthetic bloops and blips while being propelled by rhythmic electro sequences. A perfect closing of each side of the LP. This collection will certainly appeal to fans of the rare minimal synth culture, early stripped down synth pop, or anybody else who has wanted even one of these tracks on wax again as they are all quite rare. This reissue is presented on high-quality 180gram splatter paint on transparent green vinyl. Limited edition.

After almost 4 years of silence Tolcha are back with Neustadt, another intense and suspensefully cinematic full- length LP. Like the title of the record suggests, the Berlin based four piece decided to pursue a neo-retro vision of a sonic after-future with this one. What does that mean? The record clearly leans on a Motorik aesthetic, but all the while redefining it with modern production techniques and surges of their very own breed of Dub, rather than rehashing genre related cliches. Neustadt was written and arranged to work like a movie score and it really sounds like one. What´s also apparent here, is that there´s a high level of comfort in the compositions and a deeply embedded signature at work, which is proof that the band has fully arrived into their maturity. This LP was written with care, produced with love and it shows. For the lack of a better comparison, just think of it as the e quivalent of Godard´s Alphaville on tape.

LING releases his debut EP on PAN & Visionist’s CODES label.‘Attachment’ is a data-centric collection built from field and browser recordings, loosely exploring the themes of habitual mental tendencies. “The idea that taking an instinctual interpretation of information potentially warps and distorts reality. If data triggers internal responses, it risks following a predetermined path that can stray from reality.”The heavily processed sample material re-explores recordings collected from over the last 4 years. Reconstructed within sound collages across the record, they strive to find an independent voice but at times back away in order to grapple something else. Merging explorative futurist sounds, Ling’s glacial and at times glitchy constructions feature fleeting snippets of differing vocals or malfunctioning machines, whilst dipping into tentative, broken melodies. Loose references to UK culture and contemporary sounds are restructured, offering moments of something teasingly familiar before withdrawing into abstraction. The EP was made in summer 2015 in Liverpool, mixed by Chris Pawlusek, mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy, and features artwork by PWR Studio & Bill Kouligas with additional art by James Whipple

Perhaps the most compelling of all the many projects started by one-time members of Wolf Eyes, Clay Rendering came to life in 2013 and have since released a trio of singles for Hospital Productions that have gained them the admiration of followers spanning both electronic and metal communities.Their material occupies unique terrain, recalling The Cure’s widescreen Disintegration-era instrumentals, cut through with a Black Metal palette and an appreciation of electronic music that imbues their production (notably assisted by Dominick Fernow) with an end-of-world quality that’s impossible to pin down. Evoking Nine Inch Nails one moment, you find yourself in a smoke-filled, strobe-lit Road House the next; bleary-eyed, head spinning, coming down.Guitar, Accordion, Piano and electronics underpin these songs, opening with the whirling death march of ‘Maps on The Floor’ and the funereal trudge of “Swallow The Century” before the grinding fuzz of “Sight From Up There” changes pace with the addition of a forlorn piano melody and Becka Diamond’s distant vocal zooming in on half-remembered songs, rendered here with hazy definition.“Fall Of The Bed” and “Memory Loses Momentum” find Clay Rendering at their most visceral and catchy; a reminder that they are first and foremost a band that write incredible songs, often submerged in fuzz and atmosphere, but here left exposed, bare, on display. And yet the title track “Snowthorn”, “River Without” and the incredible album closer “Night To Perish” edge the album from the bleak and into the sublime, turning away from the snowy landscapes their music so often evokes, instead pulling you deep into night...

‘Flapper That’ sees Diagonal invite EVOL — arch propagators of “computer music for hooligans” — to their own, unique establishment for a proper headshrinker of a session. Since Diagonal’s incarnation, EVOL’s hardcore aesthetic and sense of absurdity has been a key influence on the label and Powell’s DJ sets. In effect, DIAG023 marks a knowing gurn of respect between these mutually advanced mentalists. The two-part, 20 minute ‘Flapper That’ may be EVOL’s most accessible boffin-style banger to date. The a-side writhes and morphs with hypernatural sensuality to explore sinuous integers of an acidic waveform, contorting convulsive digiteridooz into bendy, wild pitching bleeps and gabber-kick staccato. The second side then smears the same battery tang timbre into a pulsating, viscous bass drone with brain-melting rave tones sustaining the intensity at visceral degrees.“Roc Jiménez de Cisneros and Stephen Sharp make computer music for hooligans and deconstructed rave objects. A vortex of generative basslines, air horns and fuzzy arpeggios, their music displays a radical and playful approach to algorithmic composition, with works available on Entr’acte, Mego, Presto!?, Diskono, Scarcelight, fals.ch and their very own ALKU.”Following the high acidic purity of EVOL’s ‘Purple Melters’ for iDEAL, this 12” is one of the strongest examples of utter rave indulgence in their extensive catalogue, and likewise a perfect addition to Diagonal’s ranks.

“Kontakte” (1959-60), Stockhausen’s first piece to use both electronics and traditional instruments together, marks a turning point in his career, when his music was beginning to show the influences of American avant-garde jazz and composers like John Cage. In “Kontakte” live musicians play alongside a tape recording of percussion sounds that have been altered by different electronic devices (i.e. a ring modulator or a reverberator). Stockhausen wanted the musicians to improvise over the prepared tape, but the musicians were at such a loss that Stockhausen eventually had to score the instrumental parts as well.

Strong EP of emotive electronics from Belgian wunderkind on Apollo AMyn AKA Niels Blondeel delivers a 7 track bumper collection of his singular song craft - combining aching melodies with lush, expansive production and sound design.Self taught with a heavy emphasis on sound design and atmospherics, Blondeel’s acclaimed initial dancefloor explorations soon found a more natural fit in the introspective tracks herein, and a perfect compliment on the Apollo roster, nestling alongside the likes of Synkro. The fruits of his labour are now richly delivered on the ‘Best Heard..’ EP.Combining a cinematic sensibility with melancholic harmonics is Amyn’s true gift - witness the slow burn percussive pulse of the opener and title track - winsome vox cruise over the richly woven blanket of synth chords, and gently clanking sound design perc building to a fluttering climax. Other highlights include the desiccated minimal funk of ‘Side Of Golden You’ - soul-burning chords and hazy vocal tones bounce atop the bumping rhythm track, and majestic collab ‘Youniverse’ featuring the dulcet vocals of Alex Nelos, set against AMyn’s shimmering soundscape of synths and percussion. Closing track ‘Turn’ is perhaps the thematic core of the record - an epic electronic torch song, all yearning vocals and skying prophet chords that manages to conjure grandstanding emotion without resorting to needless bombast.Blondeel is always refining his sound - his only goal to evoke emotions through musical storytelling, it’s clear that on that level the ‘Best Heard In Shadows’ EP is a resounding success.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
This record represents an important milestone in the development and progression of musique concrète - markinga crossroad for not only the genre itself but also in the paths of its originator Pierre Schaeffer and another of thegenre’s most important and respected protagonists Pierre Henry.Undoubtedly one of the most influential experimental and electroacoustic musicians, Pierre Schaeffer is alsocredited as being the father of the theory of musique concrete as well as later name coining the term itself.Having found a job in 1936 at Radiodiffusion Française (later Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française or RTF) as anengineer, Scaeffer developed a newly found interest in music and with the blessing of his superiors made themost of his access to the Radiodiffusion Française studios, utilising his abilities as an engineer to experiment withsound whilst collaborating with musicians and composers that passed through the station’s hallowed doors. In1942 Schaeffer and influential theatre director, producer and actor Jacques Copeau founded the Studio d’Essai(renamed Club d’Essai in 1946) as part of RTF in order to experiment with radiophonic techniques. Drawing onthe works of French filmmaker, critic and novelist Jean Epstein, Schaeffer would occupy his time and his mind withthe manner in which sound recordings “revealed what was hidden in the act of basic acoustic listening” and in1948 formally set about his research in ernest - the results of which were presented as a series of studies knownas Cinq études de bruits (Five Studies of Noises) during a concert in Paris. With word of his theories and experiments spreading, Schaeffer was able to press the RTF management tofurther finance and in doing so expand his research. However, for an undertaking of this size he would need help.Having previously collaborated as part of his early research with a young classically trained composer by thename of Pierre Henry, Schaeffer had no problem convincing the RTF executives he was the right man of the job.By adding a third prong to this sonic fork in the shape of sound engineer Jacques Poullin, Schaeffer was able tocomplete a powerhouse, which he renamed the Groupe de Musique Concrete, that would push his experimentsfurther than he could have imagined. In1951, RTF handed the trio the keys to one of the earliest purposebuildelectroacoustic studios (the other being the WDR Studio in Germany), furnishing it with state of the artbespoke equipment such as a Morphophone (designed by Poullin himself and capable of tape loop-delay) and aPhonogène (a multi-headed tape instrument also designed by Poullin). The studio went from strength to strength, attracting composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen and Edgard Varèse to collaborate, and in that same yearSchaeffer and Henry produced and premiered what is considered to be the first opera concrète, Orphèe 51.As Schaeffer’s notoriety grew as did demand for his time and he found himself increasingly called away fromthe studio during which time he would hand the keys to over to his colleagues. Pierre Henry wasted no time inpursuing projects closer to his own heart, working with experimental filmmakers and choreographers like MauriceBéjart (the two would later collaborate with Michel Colombier on the cult classic Les Jerks Électroniques De LaMesse Pour Le Temps Présent Et Musiques Concrètes Pour Maurice Béjart). In 1957, following a particularlyprolonged absence on RTF duties, Schaeffer returned unhappy with the direction the group had taken and tabledan idea to revitalise both their approach as well as personnel. As a result, Henry and several other key membersleft the group the following year leaving Schaeffer to lay the foundations in 1958 for a new collective called Groupede Recherches Musicales - one of a number of theoretical and experimental groups overseen by Saeffer’s Servicede la Reserche at RTF - and set about recruiting new members including Iannis Xenakis, Henri Sauguet, LucFerrari and Michel Philippot as well as usher in a new steady stream of eager musicians eager to study within whathad rapidly become (and still is) a national institution - including a young Jean Michel Jarre!Featuring the full versions of these seminal early works (abridged versions of which had previously appearedacross two 7” singles on Disques BAM) the recordings presented here are the first fruits of this new alliance andserved to lay the bedrock for the future of the Groupe de Recherches Musicales research which would later countthe likes of Ivo Malec, Philippe Carson, Romuald Vandelle, Edgardo Canton and François Bayle (who went onto coin the term Acousmatic Music) amongst its members and cement its place in the annals of experimental, electroacoustic and early electronic music history.

33-10-3402, also known as Serbian-born artist/producer Nenad Markovic, returns to the ESP Institute for the third release in his opium den and whorehouse inspired Mecanica series. Slow Port is a cacophonous track, skillfully composed of an erratic barrage of percussive klinks and klanks as you might find in an automotive factory—pistons, gears, quips, cranks, but despite its industrial instrumentation, Nenad manages to extract a beautifully seductive quality from this beast. On Side B we're faced with the slightly more musical Plutonium Certainly, an exercise in distortion which is punctuated by repetitive androgynous chanting, and finally we culminate and release simultaneously with Elika, an overtly ethereal blur somewhere between hope and melancholy. To fully appreciate Nenad's crafted subtlety, we recommend repeated listening.

The innovative productions of Hot Sugar (née Nick Koenig) on the Muscle Milk and Moon Money EPs and tracks with artists including Das Racist, Kitty, Antwon, Big Baby Gandhi and the Roots helped to cement his status as one of the underground’s hottest beat-makers. His debut album “God’s Hand,” is his boldest outing to date. Koenig has pioneered the production style of ‘associative music’ in a process of manipulating recordings from non-traditional sources and everyday life which are then repurposed into their own unique sounds that make the audience hear the world around them in a whole new way.

Lena Willikens is a secret encyclopaedia on everything Düsseldorf (see her involvement in Salon des Amateurs), everything Brussels, and everything New Wave… that is barely the whole truth- it is actually just the tip of the iceberg. It is evident that she was raised on certain 20th-century avant-garde subjects and fantasies. (For example, like how to become a phantom) Since this education she has been travelling the world, continuing to distinctively converting those fantasies into the contemporary realness; fuelling twisted and contorted dance floor needs. It is striking- playing one of her inimitable sets - here was some white-Reebok-ed, Taeuber-Arp version of an oddball-Techno DJ who delicately refuses the obvious musical pattern of dance communication. Anyone can attest that has listened to "Sentimental Flashback" Lena's resident broadcast on Radio Cómeme. Cómeme has a notorious appetite for stars, shining in their own right. "Lena Willikens is going to be a star. She already is." says Cómeme artwork, costumes designer (and part-time clairvoyant) Sarah Szczesny. She already is. Her debut EP is indeed that special.

Using analogue gear and exposing the patina of it's sounds, ‚Wanderungen durch Wald und Flur‘ (a title that might refer to the ‚Wanderlust‘, a phenomena which emerged in german romanticism) takes you to a place far from the dancefloor. Instead there is an overall krauty feel in these five pieces, which are sparse and calm, but at the same time vitalistic.

Microfinished and mixed by Ruelgo involving rusty analogue mastering-tools. Machined acceleration motorsport for the gourmets of rotary glitch-motions. Bleeding!

So where does this come from? Had they not broken up? What was the last one: "Sonn Und Mond", that compilation album from 2009, tracing their long path from edging rocksteady roots to their very own twisted and charming concoction of alpine world dub chanson bliss? wait, there was another, in 2010, again released on Pingipung, with brassy tunes and the feat of casually putting the dub back into dubstep: "We So Horny", as if all the acclaim it was to meet from the serious crowd was just a joke. And then silence. They must have run out of ideas, right? End of the line, eventually, and mission accomplished. Well, ideas are a dime a dozen. They are not what it's all about. Austrodub, as they once succinctly put it, means total commitment, naivety, and not fearing failure five years passed. Now this. What is it? It is crisp and icy, angular and brittle, mysterious and massive, crystalline and breathing. It is as free and tight as they've ever been, and it will rub you the wrong way for a while. You’ll want to play it on 45. You’ll wonder where that pull of heavy, empty space is coming from, so raw and different from their earlier ambition towards a smooth and luscious ow. You’ll be tempted to call it electroacoustic dub. With rectangles. But it's not about genres. It wasn't about genres in 2010 either, when dubstep ended up serving as the foil. Here, Michael Wolf selected classic riddims as a basis for each of the tracks, to make clear that it's not about composition. Well what is it all about then, after all? We just said it: it's Austrodub

iDEAL and Börft pay tribute to their pal Joel Brindefalk (1975-2013) with the posthumous issue of a long-lost tape of concrète noise created in 1992 during a wavey weekend with his mates, Joachim Nordwall, Christian Topac and Johan Petersson. In making these recordings available for the first time, the closely-related labels reveal another side to Brindefalk’s known catalogue of ‘90s techno and warmer electronic dub stuff, one much more likely to broach black metal tropes and discomfiting concrète than anything warm or friendly. From the chaotic scramble of its opening couplet, the tape cuts into what sounds like a free astral jazz jam captured in bristling lo-fi, before flinging us back into the abyss with a druggy passage of hoary howls streaked with traffic noises. It gets no less wigged-out on the flip, serving as proper ear floss across four paper-cut-raw pieces of choked electronics, clattering hip hop cut-ups, and what could almost be the sound of an ogre doing the dishes.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Much attention is focused on drones as 'eyes in the sky'. However for people on the ground, the sound of the drones is much more pervasive. Military drones fly at high altitudes and are more often heard than seen. The word drone itself is rooted in sound, referring to the noise of the male honeybee. The sound of drones in areas of conflict create frightening soundscapes that go on for many hours on end. The sound gives them nicknames like Zanana (buzz) in Palestine. In this project, designer Ruben Pater (Drone Survival Guide) and composer Gonçalo F. Cardoso (Discrepant) join hands to focus on the auditive aspects of drones. What engines do drones have, and what do they sound like? Side A features recordings of 17 drone types, ranging from small consumer drones to large military drones, as contemporary bird songs. The B side presents a soundscape by Gonçalo F. Cardoso, inspired by the abusive and destructive power or drone technology. The composition focus on the conceptual (sound) life and death of an aerial drone machine in the 21st century.

Dense, roiling drone show from Joe DeNardo, who’s best known as Growing but, adopts the Ornament moniker to signify something altered from his usual practice. It starts out with a folksy sort of dissonance and soon starts to curdle and keen in fascinating formations**Joachim Nordwall of iDEAL says: “Protest Music” is the first release by Ornament, the recent project of Joe DeNardo from the band Growing. Ornament began playing shows in late 2012 around the New York City area, and recorded this album int he summer and fall of 2014 in Brooklyn, NY.While live Ornament shows have been known to test audience decibel tolerances with sounds ranging from guitar-based rawness to deeply effected, skrewed up percussion, the double entendre named “Protest Music” presents a distillation of those themes down to their essences, both positive and negative, utopian/dystopian. The complex sounds and images of “Protest Music” contend with the absolute grayness of existence.

A new 10" record by renowned German artist and musician Markus Oehlen. Wanne 4 is composed of a variety of percussive sounds with a focus on digital guitars. An homage to the sound of The Feelies early recordings, the track slowly works its way through a basic guitar riff of three chords accompanied by steel-drums and a steady bass drum beat giving it an air of a summer breeze until the guitar sounds gain more distortion. A beautiful piece of woozy instrumental techno, a surf-dub summer tune for people who prefer Palma to Ibiza and Jessy Lanza to Katy Perry.
