Dario Argento’s ‘opera prima’ ‘L’uccello dalle piume di cristallo’ was premiered in 1970 and marked an historical and revolutionary debut, being a truly original and innovative thriller. The stylistic choices of Argento mark a clear step forward from the thrillers of that era and even the soundtrack was something utterly special.

Argento assigned the score to Ennio Morricone, composer of the soundtracks for ‘Comandamenti per un gangster’, ‘C’era una volta il west’, ‘Metti, una sera a cena’ ‘Un esercito di 5 uomini’ and ‘La stagione dei sensi’, which Argento had already written the screenplay of. For this movie the maestro adopted a particular style that draws heavily on contemporary music and on the studies of his Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. With ‘L’uccello dalle piume di cristallo’ Morricone develops this approach and defines a 'formula': he alternates traditional songs, built around an easy and immediate melody used as a leitmotiv, with avant-garde and abstract tracks that amplify the state of uneasiness and fear of the viewers of tension and violence sequences.

Cinevox released this soundtrack on an LP with 10 tracks in the spring of 1971 when ‘Il gatto a nove code’ was already a big hit in the Italian cinemas. The record was originally issued in mono, with different tracks from the Stereo US version. This is the first vinyl reissue featuring the original score in Stereo, enclosed in a brand new artwork made by Adventprod studios!

Clear orange vinyl edition.

Each collection centres on a different movie genre, together they allow the listener to rediscover the unmatched genius of the greatest movie composer of all time. The Maestro. This collection was announced before Ennio Morricone passed away on July 6, 2020. We’ll continue to release the series to honour this great composer. When we think of 1960’s Italian pulp cinema, the spaghetti western is the genre that comes to mind. However, Italy was responsible for another classic cinematic exploitation movement around the same time, one that is equally as compelling, but less widely recognised. Giallo… Giallo, meaning ‘yellow’, is the Italian term for crime fiction, it was named after the bright yellow colours of early pulp fiction paperbacks. Film audiences adopted it as the name for a peculiarly Italian sub-genre of thriller cinema that had its heyday in the 1970’s - just as the Spaghetti Western movement was waning. The Giallo can be difficult to define, but essentially it is an Italian crime film that draws from a pool of common themes: stylized murders, amateur sleuths, sleazy glamour, psychological crimes, enigmatic titles and all these themes are underpinned by creepily atmospheric Ennio Morricone music scores. Starting 70 years ago as an arranger for the piece Mamma Bianca, Ennio Morricone is the emperor of scores and soundtracks. Morricone has always been a huge influence for the likes of Hans Zimmer, Danger Mouse, Muse, Metallica and many more musicians. He was one of the most successful composers of all-time, selling over 70 million records and winning dozens of awards. Giallo is available as a limited edition of 3000 individually numbered copies on “giallo and black marbled” (clear, yellow and black mixed) vinyl. The package includes a 4-page insert with liner notes written by Claudio Fuiano. The gatefold sleeve contains a silver foil spot varnish on the outside and images of iconic movie posters on the inside.

Year 1964. Almost out of nowhere, the little-known and regarded director Sergio Leone transposes into a western key a film by Akira Kurosawa, and by putting together all the right pieces, adding a bit of intuition, lays down new rules for the 'spaghetti western' genre, giving way to an endless series of imitations.

"A Fistful of Dollars" would not have the same impact without the inimitable music written by Ennio Morricone, who had curiously been an old elementary school Leone’s classmate. The main soundtrack themes were chosen from two arrangements that Morricone had already drafted two years earlier; once removed the lyrics and added the unmistakable whistle of Alessandro Alessandroni, the spaghetti-sound was finally complete!

The film was an incredible success, and projected Leone, Morricone, and in particular the actor Clint Eastwood into the Olympus of the Great. The soundtrack was released for the first time the following year (1965), along with the one of Sergio Leone's subsequent work "For a Few Dollars More".

This new edition sees the original seven tracks of the score in a completely new layout. The format is a 10" 45rpm LP, with a 26x26cm miniposter attached. Clear vinyl edition.

Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (New Paradise Cinema) is a 1988 Italian drama film written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 62nd Academy Awards. It was a critical and box-office success and is regarded by many as a classic. It is particularly renowned for the ‘kissing scenes’ montage at the film’s end. Ennio Morricone (10 November 1928) composed and arranged the score of the movie. He has made scores and soundtracks for more than 500 film and television productions, making him one of the most influential and best-selling film composers since the late 1950s.

Nuovo Cinema Paradiso is available as a limited edition of 1000 numbered copies on transparent pink vinyl. The package includes an insert.

Unreleased until today in vinyl, Lolita is one of the most memorable and melodramatic score of its author. Morricone's original soundtrack accentuates the sensuality and the romanticism based on the main bewitching and obsessive theme. As underlined by the composer himself: "With my music, I only had to follow the director's intentions, to make Lolita a sincere and mutual love story, in spite of the purity and the mischievous innocence of the young teenager". The present edition offers themes and variations written by Ennio Morricone and used by Adrian Lyne in the movie. The composer demonstrates once again that he has become a master in the art of variation. Highlights of the album include the different variations of the main theme as well as the track "Requiescant" performed by the children's choir Coro di Voci Bianche dell'Arcum.

The legendary soundtrack composed by the Maestro ENNIO MORRICONE for IL GRANDE SILENZIO, directed in 1968 by SERGIO CORBUCCI and starring Jean Louis Trintignant and Klaus Kinski. A melancholic, emotive score, deeply moving and cold as the snow covered landscape of the film, a unusual stylistic choice for a western, is considered one of the best “western” work by Morricone since the collaboration with Sergio Leone for the classic “Dollar Trilogy” and “Once Upon a Time in the West”

"Il gatto a nove code" (The cat o 'nine tails), filmed in 1971, is the second film by Dario Argento, a horror thriller still distant from his horror works for which he will later become famous on an international level. The collaboration with the composer and conductor Ennio Morricone, already known for his work on Sergio Leone’s western movies, is here renewed after the success of "The Bird with the Crystal Plumage", and will continue with the third installment of the 'zoological trilogy', "Four Flies on Grey Velvet".

Ennio Morricone wrote a monothematic score including several orchestral variations of the main theme, a brilliant and very romantic motif with Lounge flavour, vocalised by I Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni. Introduced first in “Titoli di Testa” and reprised with several variations throughout the score: a Classic style version with harpsichord, organ and mandolin, a slow and dreamy one with the voice of Edda and also including the choir I Cantori, a samba version, a beat-flavoured mysterious version, another version once again with the splendid magical voice of Edda and a slower variation with the whistle of Alessandro Alessandroni. The style of Ennio Morricone strongly recognizable in a second theme, very romantic and lounge, featuring a keyboard used by the author, frequently also in other scores like “Giu la testa”. A classic-style minuet with the opera vocalism of Edda enriches the score. The third theme is a brilliant orchestral samba introduced by the type machine and developed by the whole orchestra and then reprised with the performance of the wonderful Cantori Moderni. Our LP also contains three superb “shake” dancefloor music themes that bring us the unforgettable Beat atmospheres of those days’ discoteques.

Death Waltz Recording Company is ready to whisk you far into the future to the end of the 20th century with the truly out of this world Ennio Morricone score to SPAZIO: 1999, starring the late, great Martin Landau. Produced by the legendary Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the feature was constructed out of three episodes of the revered SPACE: 1999 television show to introduce Italian audiences to Commander Koenig and his crew, and thrilled audiences with nuclear explosions, parallel universes, and space opera thrills, all coming out of Moonbase Alpha. While the Italian show still featured the brassy sound of Barry Gray, legendary maestro Morricone was employed to bring a decidedly different feel to the theatrical film. From the opening the score launches into wild space jazz with piano and trumpet interspersed with all kinds of noise before it descends into a creepier vibe. Morricone uses unsettling violins and atonal music together with electronics to simulate the void of space and the danger faced by the intrepid heroes, and what emerges is a mix of sci-fi and horror that will not only thrill you, but also scare the living daylights out of you. Human decision required. - Charlie Brigden (Creator, The Sound Of Fear Podcast)

Un Uomo Da Rispettare translates to “A Man to Respect,” which can easily be said of Ennio Morricone himself—the unparalleled maestro of the soundtrack. This 1972 crime film stars Kirk Douglas as a master safecracker at a crossroads in his life, emerging from prison yet tempted by one last big job. Morricone builds the main theme around Cicci Santucci’s flugelhorn as riveting leitmotifs reprise amidst variations of noir-jazz abstraction to frame the composer’s grand vision. A strident, two-note piano phrase sets the mood of heightened tension, while muted timpani and trance-like descending bass patterns sweep dramatically across the cinematic stereo field. On “18 Pari,” slinky rhythms and softened wah-wah guitars offer a distinctly Italian library music, adding elements of lightness to the overall avant-garde score. Un Uomo Da Rispettare’s dissonant chords and angular arrangements recall Morricone’s free improvisation work with Gruppo D’Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. This first-time vinyl reissue is recommended for fans of Krzysztof Penderecki, Harry Partch and Sun City Girls.

Ennio Morricone’s famous soundtrack composed for the 1971 Franco Rubartelli documentary “Veruschka, Poesia di una Donna” about the legendary VERUSCHKA the world’s first supermodel, a real 60’s/70’s icon, who appeared in several cult movies including Blow Up, Salome and Coleur Chai. In Rubartelli’s movie we follow the beautiful model in a shockingly surreal journey through the rural countryside of Italy on a downward spiral of self-discovery that leads her through so many whacked out head trips; heavily dark and sad with some of the most stunning psychedelic eye candy you can find from the freak out era of filmmaking, perfectly tuned with one of Ennio Morricone’s best scores. Female: A Musical Journey into the World of Women .This project was born of a very simple idea; to create a sonic journey into the world of women. By selecting songs from film music by the great Ennio Morricone we seek to give a unusual soundtrack, not inspired by a film but instead by the muse of all muses: The Woman. Whose sounds could better describe this world of music than Ennio Morricone’s? Who better than The Maestro can really describe all the highlights of a day, a season, or a woman’s life? From the most dramatic moments to the happiest, the most sensual, seductive, sensitive and tough ones at the same time. Morricone’s emotional strength manages to convey strong vibrations with very few notes, just like the surreptitious glance from a woman in love that flashes between two people. When you listen to the song “Poetry of a Woman" you can feel this vibe. The sensuality of the music of "Scena d'Amore" from the movie "Crescete e Moltiplicatevi" is striking. It evokes a mood quite independent of the scene in the movie; indeed it gives your imagination the freedom to dream of sexy and sophisticated pictures. Edda Dell'Orso’s voice is the second great personality of this record. On each track her presence (which is in almost all of them) leads us into this mood, almost whispering when we describe which path we are following: in the sea, in bed, in the disco, at a cocktail party or on the verge of a nervous breakdown! Thus, through these notes, you will be taken by the hand into this journey with Eros, Passion, Love, Tragedy and Fantasy!

Compiled by Alessandro Casella.

This is one of the most memorable film soundtracks ever, a rival for that other great example of the art `The Good, The Bad, The Ugly'. Sergio Leone's direction was a breath of fresh air, and his use of music in his films was an integral part of his style and the film successes. "For a Few Dollars More" is the natural progression from that movie, with the addition of a third protagonist - Lee Van Cleef - who joins the two actors: a triad that made history for another masterpiece Sergio Leone's masterpiece. Ennio Morricone's music is equally important. The Maestro here chooses a 'poor' registry, consisting of folk instruments such as ocarina, Jew's harp and chimes, respectively used to accompany the entry stage of the three main actors. But there are, as usual, the contributions of Alessandro Alessandroni and his Cantori Moderni choir, for an incredibly exciting final result

iaggio con Anita (Lovers and Liars) is a 1979 Italian comedy film directed by Mario Monicelli and starring Goldie Hawn and Giancarlo Giannini. Ennio Morricone’s music is essentially pop-based; most cues are variations around a simple theme that goes up and down a scale, often with drum or guitar backing. Highlight performance comes in “Ricordo del Padre”, with a gorgeous flügelhorn solo. Also of particular note is “Tre anni fa una sera” (try saying that after a night on the town), a beautiful stringand-woodwind theme that perfectly captures the movie’s theme of longing for love in probably mistaken circumstances. For the disco divas out there come two songs which are definitely of the period, “Move” and “Good News”. If you wondered what Morricone’s impression of the Bee Gees might sound like, now you can find out.

Alla Scoperta Dell`America is a 1977 tv documentary dedicated to a puppet builder that represented the travel of Columbus to America. This 40-minute soundtrack may not be as well-known as the music to which Ennio Morricone owes its reputation, but the themes are original and easily get stuck in your head, especially the “Tema d’amore”, a delicacy worthy of his best compositions. Fans will also recognize the signature of Morricone through humor (“Misterioso per Elisa”) and the presence of a whistler (“Finale”). An ambitious mafia film by director Pasquale Squitieri that was made in 1985 about the murder of Ambrosoli and mafia corruption in the USA. Ennio Morricone wrote a great number of film scores for the Sicilian problems with the mafia. The score for Il Pentito is full of tension and action, but the record starts with a lovely romantic theme for strings orchestrated in a typical Morricone style. And there are more nice themes as there is in track 4, Il Pentito - (Colloqui discreti) a theme for guitar and flute and track 6 Addio al Padre (for guitar and oboe). F or this fascinating score Ennio is also the conductor of the orchestra. Record Store Day 2020 Release. Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the very special reissue of one of Ennio Morricone's most striking soundtracks composed for Henri Verneuils' 1975 film Peur Sur La Ville (Fear Over The City). This special edition includes the original score released in 1975 plus a second vinyl worth of bonuses which have never been out on vinyl. These includes two tracks making their official debut after 45 years. Ennio Morricone's association with French director Henri Verneuil comes close to the one the Maestro had with Sergio Leone. This fruitful collaboration spawned many classics including The Sicilian Clan (1969), Le Casse (1971), Le Serpent (1973) and I Comme Icare (1979). Peur Sur La Ville from 1975 is probably the peak of their collaboration and is undoubtedly one of Morricone's best scores. The thriller featuring Jean Paul Belmondo was a huge blockbuster hit in France and Morricone's soundtrack became equally famous. It features all of Morricone's trademarks: a catchy theme with haunting piano chords, Alessandro Alessandroni's whistle, dissonant strings, melodramatic melodies and catchy sexy groovy tracks. But as the French film failed to become an international hit, its score didn't get the exposure it deserved becoming cult only to the circle of Morricone fan. John Zorn did feature the "Peur Sur La Ville Theme" on his cult 1984 hommage to the Maestro, "The Big Gundown" (making it to second position in the tracklist) but the soundtrack never had the trajectory of the soundtracks made for Sergio Leone. A wealth of bonuses tracks were unearthed in the 90s but this is the first time they make it to vinyl. The Wewantsounds team have completely re-sequenced the whole tracklist in a more chronological way and added two fascinating completely unissued tracks including a superb alternative version of the theme "Minaccia Telefonata." For this special edition, we've asked Californian musician and soundtrack expert AM to team up with his good Paris friend, Air's JB Dunckel to discuss the "Peur Sur La Ville" film and music and their common admiration for the Maestro's music. This edition come in a lavish gatefold sleeve superbly designed by American illustrator Eric Adrian Lee making good use of the filmphotos. A special edition that will honour one of Ennio Morricone's most striking soundtracks.

The giallo thriller genre afforded Ennio Morricone the opportunity to push back musical boundaries and take his compositions into the outer realms
of avant-garde experimentation. Armando Crispino's 1975 horror masterpiece, Macchie Solari (commonly known as Autopsy) is undoubtedly one of
the more grisly films of this genre and, responding to the heightened subject matter, Morricone ditched all but one conventionally melodious track in
favour of a full-on atonal assault of wretched strings and hellish arias. Never-before released on vinyl, it is presented here on double translucent
marbled orange 180 gram vinyl, with 350gsm gatefold sleeve. Newly mastered by James Plotkin with liner notes by Lovely Jon.

Digitmovies, with collaboration of Gruppo Sugar, issues for the very first time on CD, in the de-luxe digipack series, the complete OST in mono by Ennio Morricone for the western movie “Duello nel Texas” (aka “Gunfight at the red sands”) directed in 1963 by Ricardo Blasco and starring Richard Harrison, Giacomo Rossi Stuart, Mikaela. The village of Carteville on the border to Mexico is in danger from a mysterious and dangerous gang of thugs. One night the band assaults the house of a Mexican family, including an orphan of American nationality adopted by Don Diego and known by all as “El Gringo”. The gang kills the householder and steals the gold the family has at home. The man eventually discovers the true identity of the criminals. One against all, “El Gringo” succeeds with cunning and courage in liberating the town from the presence of evildoers forever. For this film Ennio Morricone has signed his first western score ever, just one year before the global success of “Per un pugno di dollari” (aka “A Fistful of Dollars”) by Sergio Leone. Although still far from his musical style which is internationally known for this kind of genre, the then 35 years old Ennio Morricone has composed a strong symphonic score featuring the main theme song “A Gringo Like Me” (we hear both the performance of Peter Tevis and the alternate one of Dicky Jones) which gets reprised with exciting instrumental versions, alternated with saloon music, highly dramatic orchestral passages full of tension, music for wild rides, romantic and epic sequences. Till today only the song performed by the voice of Peter Tevis and a suite of 4:53 issued on a C.A.M. compilation were avaialble on the soundtrack market. For our CD (TT 41:54) we have used every note which had been recorded during the original session. This project has been fully approved by M° Morricone who with his great friendship helped us in the making of a release which is much awaited from all his fans around the world. Limited edition.

Even if you find the 1969 film "Eat It", a bit 'too weak-willed a film of social satire and advertising, the first and last movie of Francesco Casaretti', you can not miss out on the soundtrack from the two-time Academy Award winner Ennio Morricone, composed during his most prolific and experimental period.
Morricone wrote a score that is, as always, brilliant, conducted by Bruno Nicolai with the choir I Cantori Moderni di Alessandro Alessandroni. The tracks range between danceable (A5, A6, A7 and even a bit "Dies Irae", B2, a known nursery rhyme almost deformed, interpolated into the main theme), classical motifs, romantic, and with a touch of bossa nova (A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B3, B4), all of which embrace all the psychological and environmental nuances of alienation and paradox that mark the plot of the film.
There is also a sense of disturbing and abstract experimentalism that make this soundtrack unique. Particularly in "Quinta Variazione / Africami" (A6) with the fuzzy Fender by Alessandroni, and "Settima Variazione" with its three dreamy amazing underwater variants (A7, A8 and B6) and ending with "Eat it", in the same version as the highly collected 45rpm that came out at the time and is, until now, the only existing track on vinyl from this score; a today legendary cult object and sought for the killer heavy drum by Vincenzo Restuccia and distorted psychedelic Fender Stratocaster of Alessandro Alessandroni.
Highly rigid hand-glued Cinedelic cover with a folder insert of 4 facades with photos from the movie.

"Il Diavolo nel Cervello" (Devil in the brain) is a film directed in 1971 by Sergio Sollima and screened at the beginning of the following year; it's a psychological thriller in which tension is determined by the characters' psyche more than their actions, and is therefore an atypical product, that was offered to an audience who at the time were mostly into the 'Dario Argento suspence', made of serial killers, ferocious murders and a pinch of erotism.

After three movies in the 'spaghetti western' genre and the noir "Città violenta" Sollima then decided to make something unpredictable, and paid the consequences of his resolution: his film went almost unnoticed, and it's been reevaluated just today, together with the soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, who already scored Sollima's previous works.

"Il diavolo nel cervello" works on an almost-full symphonic register: on a strings-made ground we have piano, harpsichord, flutes and brass instruments. It's a very airy work that sips moments of tension, where the pace is dictated solely by jazzy drums played with bristles. Undoubtedly, one of the best productions of the Maestro from those early '70s, including Bruno Nicolai as a conductor and Edda Dell'Orso singing choirs.

Yet another blend of music and imagery from the fervent Seventies to be rediscovered, here revived in LP format with a gatefold cover and a completely new graphic layout.

Solid red & purple mixed vinyl edition.

Il Maestro's soundtrack is an impressive conglomeration of mournful trumpets, nervous guitars and percussive, sometimes atonal atmosphere pieces which establish a suitably tense mood. Alessandro Alessandroni's I Cantori Moderni decorate the score with their characteristically eclectic vocal flourishes.
