Perfect “noir jazz style” soundtrack composed by the Maestro Ennio Morricone for the 1966 Italian crime thriller “Svegliati e Uccidi” (aka “Too Soon To Die”) directed by the well-known Carlo Lizzani (who first gained notoriety working on such Italian neorealist classics as Rossellini’s “Germany Year Zero” and De Santis’s “Bitter Rice”) and starring Robert Hoffman and Gian Maria Volonté. Dark and powerful, this is one of the best of Morricone’s crime thriller scores of the period, which should appeal to fans of celebrated scores like Città Violenta and Revolver.

The giallo thriller genre afforded Ennio Morricone the opportunity to push back musical boundaries and take his compositions into the outer realmsof avant-garde experimentation. Armando Crispino's 1975 horror masterpiece, Macchie Solari (commonly known as Autopsy) is undoubtedly one ofthe more grisly films of this genre and, responding to the heightened subject matter, Morricone ditched all but one conventionally melodious track infavour of a full-on atonal assault of wretched strings and hellish arias. Never-before released on vinyl, it is presented here on double translucentmarbled orange 180 gram vinyl, with 350gsm gatefold sleeve. Newly mastered by James Plotkin with liner notes by Lovely Jon.

Even if you find the 1969 film "Eat It", a bit 'too weak-willed a film of social satire and advertising, the first and last movie of Francesco Casaretti', you can not miss out on the soundtrack from the two-time Academy Award winner Ennio Morricone, composed during his most prolific and experimental period. Morricone wrote a score that is, as always, brilliant, conducted by Bruno Nicolai with the choir I Cantori Moderni di Alessandro Alessandroni. The tracks range between danceable (A5, A6, A7 and even a bit "Dies Irae", B2, a known nursery rhyme almost deformed, interpolated into the main theme), classical motifs, romantic, and with a touch of bossa nova (A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B3, B4), all of which embrace all the psychological and environmental nuances of alienation and paradox that mark the plot of the film. There is also a sense of disturbing and abstract experimentalism that make this soundtrack unique. Particularly in "Quinta Variazione / Africami" (A6) with the fuzzy Fender by Alessandroni, and "Settima Variazione" with its three dreamy amazing underwater variants (A7, A8 and B6) and ending with "Eat it", in the same version as the highly collected 45rpm that came out at the time and is, until now, the only existing track on vinyl from this score; a today legendary cult object and sought for the killer heavy drum by Vincenzo Restuccia and distorted psychedelic Fender Stratocaster of Alessandro Alessandroni. Highly rigid hand-glued Cinedelic cover with a folder insert of 4 facades with photos from the movie.

"Teorema" is a film directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini, publicly presented for the first time in September 1968 at the International Film Festival in Venice; it immediately shocked its viewers, like many other of Pasolini's works, and was seized by the Public Prosecutor of Rome and the director, with producer Donato Leoni, were charged with obscenity - and eventually absolved. The music of the film is divided in two: the original vinyl B-side is entirely occupied by Mozart's "Messa da Requiem", while the A-side houses five original compositions written by Ennio Morricone. These ones consist of two opening dissonant and discordant tracks, solely played with classical instruments ("Teorema", "Frammenti"), a ballad sung by the Junior Trio ("Fruscio di green leaves"), a piece that reminds of a western movie by Sergio Leone ("L'ultima corrida") and a closing instrumental beat/psych song ("Beat N° 3").This Vinyl Magic reissue faithfully reproduces the original 1968 version, and is printed in a limited edition on 180gr transparent lime coloured vinyl.

"Vergogna schifosi" is a 1969 movie directed by Mauro Severino, a "Generation '68" film whose aim is to depict a social protest against the middle-class youth of the time, with the deserted - as empty as the protagonists - city of Milan in the background; everything is tied together by a mysterious murder that occurred years before, resurfaced by a mysterious individual. The soundtrack of this film was entrusted to Ennio Morricone who, with the collaboration of I Cantori Moderni di Alessandro Alessandroni and an incredible Edda Dell'Orso, combined symphonic and pop music, with a jazzy rhythmic background. Six tracks with a soothing and romantic atmosphere that wouldn't look out of place in a 'lounge' compilation; undoubtedly brilliant is the reinterpretation of the famous nursery rhyme melody of "Giro Giro Tondo", included in the two pieces of the same title "Matto, Caldo, Soldi, Morto... Girotondo".This Vinyl Magic reissue faithfully reproduces the original 1969 version, and is printed in a limited edition on 180gr solid gold coloured vinyl.

“Metti, una sera a cena” it is a 1969 movie directed by Joseph Patrons Griffi, made up from an eponymous theater script and especially transposed to the film medium. It immediately obtained consents and success, and paved the road to success for actors Florinda Bolkan and Tony Musante in particular. So did the music written by Ennio Morricone, who in 1970 won the Nastro D’Argento Award for Best Score. Lounge sounds, bossa nova, jazz (especially the drums touch) and beat (usually still in vogue in the Italy of the late ’60s), seasoned with orchestral arrangements conducted by Bruno Nicolai, merge here to one of the most famous soundtrack of the Italian Maestro. A perfect mix of eroticism and melancholy, for a real classic! This AMS Records edition offers the original soundtrack released in 1969 on Cinevox Record in a new artwork, a gatefold cover and colored vinyl. A bonus track is also included, the song “Hurry to me” sung by The Sandpipers, a folk/pop trio who became famous at the time for their version of the popular “Guantanamera”.

Digitmovies, with collaboration of Gruppo Sugar, issues for the very first time on CD, in the de-luxe digipack series, the complete OST in mono by Ennio Morricone for the western movie “Duello nel Texas” (aka “Gunfight at the red sands”) directed in 1963 by Ricardo Blasco and starring Richard Harrison, Giacomo Rossi Stuart, Mikaela. The village of Carteville on the border to Mexico is in danger from a mysterious and dangerous gang of thugs. One night the band assaults the house of a Mexican family, including an orphan of American nationality adopted by Don Diego and known by all as “El Gringo”. The gang kills the householder and steals the gold the family has at home. The man eventually discovers the true identity of the criminals. One against all, “El Gringo” succeeds with cunning and courage in liberating the town from the presence of evildoers forever. For this film Ennio Morricone has signed his first western score ever, just one year before the global success of “Per un pugno di dollari” (aka “A Fistful of Dollars”) by Sergio Leone. Although still far from his musical style which is internationally known for this kind of genre, the then 35 years old Ennio Morricone has composed a strong symphonic score featuring the main theme song “A Gringo Like Me” (we hear both the performance of Peter Tevis and the alternate one of Dicky Jones) which gets reprised with exciting instrumental versions, alternated with saloon music, highly dramatic orchestral passages full of tension, music for wild rides, romantic and epic sequences. Till today only the song performed by the voice of Peter Tevis and a suite of 4:53 issued on a C.A.M. compilation were avaialble on the soundtrack market. For our CD (TT 41:54) we have used every note which had been recorded during the original session. This project has been fully approved by M° Morricone who with his great friendship helped us in the making of a release which is much awaited from all his fans around the world. Limited edition.

Unreleased until today in vinyl, Lolita is one of the most memorable and melodramatic score of its author. Morricone's original soundtrack accentuates the sensuality and the romanticism based on the main bewitching and obsessive theme. As underlined by the composer himself: "With my music, I only had to follow the director's intentions, to make Lolita a sincere and mutual love story, in spite of the purity and the mischievous innocence of the young teenager". The present edition offers themes and variations written by Ennio Morricone and used by Adrian Lyne in the movie. The composer demonstrates once again that he has become a master in the art of variation. Highlights of the album include the different variations of the main theme as well as the track "Requiescant" performed by the children's choir Coro di Voci Bianche dell'Arcum.

Richard III is a 55-minute film adaptation of Shakespeare's play, starring Frederick Warde as the title character. The 1912 film, a French/U.S. international co-production, was produced by Film d'Art and released through the independent states rights film distribution system. It is the oldest surviving American featurelength film, and is also thought to be the first featurelength Shakespearean adaptation ever made. As early as 1922, the film was thought lost. It was not until 1996 that a print was discovered, when William Buffum, former projectionist at the Bluebird Theatre in Portland, Oregon, donated his copy to the American Film Institute. The AFI restored the print, transferring it from its nitrate film stock and retouching the hand tinting effect used in the original 1912 release. On June 26, 2001, Kino International released the film on DVD, with a newly composed score by Ennio Morricone, which was recorded at Music Village, Rome, Italy on July 17-19, 1997. Ennio Morricone (10 November 1928) composed and arranged the score of the movie. He has made scores and soundtracks for more than 500 film and television productions, making him one of the most influential and best-selling film composers since the late 1950s. This release is available in the Ennio Morricone Classic Soundtrack series and will be strictly limited to 1.000 numbered copies on transparent vinyl.

Death Waltz Recording Company is ready to whisk you far into the future to the end of the 20th century with the truly out of this world Ennio Morricone score to SPAZIO: 1999, starring the late, great Martin Landau. Produced by the legendary Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the feature was constructed out of three episodes of the revered SPACE: 1999 television show to introduce Italian audiences to Commander Koenig and his crew, and thrilled audiences with nuclear explosions, parallel universes, and space opera thrills, all coming out of Moonbase Alpha. While the Italian show still featured the brassy sound of Barry Gray, legendary maestro Morricone was employed to bring a decidedly different feel to the theatrical film. From the opening the score launches into wild space jazz with piano and trumpet interspersed with all kinds of noise before it descends into a creepier vibe. Morricone uses unsettling violins and atonal music together with electronics to simulate the void of space and the danger faced by the intrepid heroes, and what emerges is a mix of sci-fi and horror that will not only thrill you, but also scare the living daylights out of you. Human decision required. - Charlie Brigden (Creator, The Sound Of Fear Podcast)

Un Uomo Da Rispettare translates to “A Man to Respect,” which can easily be said of Ennio Morricone himself—the unparalleled maestro of the soundtrack. This 1972 crime film stars Kirk Douglas as a master safecracker at a crossroads in his life, emerging from prison yet tempted by one last big job. Morricone builds the main theme around Cicci Santucci’s flugelhorn as riveting leitmotifs reprise amidst variations of noir-jazz abstraction to frame the composer’s grand vision. A strident, two-note piano phrase sets the mood of heightened tension, while muted timpani and trance-like descending bass patterns sweep dramatically across the cinematic stereo field. On “18 Pari,” slinky rhythms and softened wah-wah guitars offer a distinctly Italian library music, adding elements of lightness to the overall avant-garde score. Un Uomo Da Rispettare’s dissonant chords and angular arrangements recall Morricone’s free improvisation work with Gruppo D’Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. This first-time vinyl reissue is recommended for fans of Krzysztof Penderecki, Harry Partch and Sun City Girls.

It was in Chicago that Ra recorded some of his most legendary material for his own Saturn label, and it is one of the town's where Ra is clearly most comfortable and free, and this performance is indicative of that. The latter, Samy Pavel, of Belgian nationality but born in Egypt in 1944, debuted in 1972 precisely with this film, which was presented at the Venice International Film Festival in the same year. The author of the soundtrack is Ennio Morricone, who was already a World famous composer in those years thanks to his unforgettable soundtracks written for Sergio Leone's western movies and beyond. He's here accompanied, as often happened in those years, by conductor Bruno Nicolai and singer Edda Dell'Orso. Entirely orchestral, first of all the LP shows a long suite on side A, composed of a series of the main theme variations; the B-side, on the other hand, presents a brief interlude for solo voices, followed by another long composition that we wouldn't hesitate to define 'unbelievable': sixteen long minutes of a constant tension generated by string instruments only, with sporadic inserts of tribal percussion, dissonant piano chords and notes, and darkened choirs. This reissue on Vinyl Magic is the first ever on LP since the original one published in 1972.Limited edition 180gr. white vinyl.

Fifth western in a row for Sergio Leone after the Dollar Trilogy and “Once Upon a Time in The West”, “Giù la testa” (Duck, you sucker, 1971) is also the fifth collaboration between the director and Ennio Morricone, which would be followed by the final “Once Upon a Time in America” nearly 15 years later, before Leone’s premature death in 1989.World famous and holder of unlimited resources, with “Giù la testa” Leone directed an epic film that tells of the friendship between a Mexican bandit and an Irish explosives expert, during the historical context of the 1913 Mexican Revolution; lasting over two hours, the film has almost tones of an Hollywood colossal, but its epicness is only occasionally accompanied by Morricone’s music, which focuses more on the romance and melancholy aroused by the two protagonists’ memories. This score’s main theme alone would have been enough to make it a classic, thanks to the recurring “Sean-Sean” tune, and especially the melody sung by Edda Dell'Orso, a theme that even the less music passionate will immediately recognize! This title closes the series of AMS Records / Vinyl Magic reissues dedicated to the Leone / Morricone collaboration, with the usual new graphic layout, a 60x30cm poster with flyers and lobby cards and an orange/gold colored vinyl.

An incredibly significant film, still actual today in many ways, “Indagine su un cittadino al di sopra di ogni sospetto” (Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion, 1970) is just one of the masterpieces in which the director Elio Petri directs actor – one of the best Italian ones ever – Gian Maria Volonté, who here impersonates a police officer characterized by an unstable personality; abusing of his power, he hides his insecurities and a murder committed at the expense of his girlfriend (an irresistible Florinda Bolkan in a state of grace).“Indagine” is an essential work, both from a cinematographic and a musical point of view, therefore it’s one of the best ways to get closer to Morricone’s incredibly vast discography. The approach to melodies is minimalist but also unsettling, having to music to evoke feelings of uncertainty and imbalance, which are proper of the main character. The use of musical instruments is more ‘popular’ and much less symphonic and bombastic; drums or percussions are almost completely absent, nevertheless the listener never loses the sense of rhythm, slow and obsessive at the same time.Despite the prizes earned by the film – including the Academy Award for best foreign film – Cinevox only released a 45rpm with the main theme of the film at the time, and a first ‘full-version’ of the soundtrack was only published in the ’80s. This new edition fills some other gaps, by including a specially selected tracklist, anever seen before artwork, a gatefold cover with extensive notes and a 30x30cm poster with a vast reproduction of lobby cards and posters of the film.

"Queimada" - edited in the USA as "Burn!" - is a film directed by Gillo Pontecorvo, released in 1969 and almost entirely filmed in Colombia; the two main actors are the world famous Marlon Brando (soon to be the main character in "The Godfather") and the unknown Evaristo Márquez, a true indigenous strongly wanted by Pontecorvo on the set, to make his fiction even more realistic. The realization of the soundtrack was commissioned to the untiring Morricone, here assisted by conductor Bruno Nicolai and Alessandro Alessandroni choristers, the latter featured in particular in the epic opening track "Abolição" and "Hosanna". Orchestrations are still present, but the distinguishing feature of this work is a virtually exclusive and obsessive use of acoustic tribal percussions, and a Hammond organ that sometimes adds an almost police/detective movies feeling. This work is almost full of dramatic tones, for a film that still casts a strong message against colonialism, but more generally against wars, oppression and exploitation. This is an exclusive reissue, for an album that waited 45 years to be repressed on vinyl! Colored vinyl edition (orange & clear transparent mixed) with many bonus tracks, enclosed in a cover gatefold with a completely renewed artwork and a 30x30cm poster with film flyers and lobby cards reproductions.

"Il Diavolo nel Cervello" (Devil in the brain) is a film directed in 1971 by Sergio Sollima and screened at the beginning of the following year; it's a psychological thriller in which tension is determined by the characters' psyche more than their actions, and is therefore an atypical product, that was offered to an audience who at the time were mostly into the 'Dario Argento suspence', made of serial killers, ferocious murders and a pinch of erotism. After three movies in the 'spaghetti western' genre and the noir "Città violenta" Sollima then decided to make something unpredictable, and paid the consequences of his resolution: his film went almost unnoticed, and it's been reevaluated just today, together with the soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, who already scored Sollima's previous works."Il diavolo nel cervello" works on an almost-full symphonic register: on a strings-made ground we have piano, harpsichord, flutes and brass instruments. It's a very airy work that sips moments of tension, where the pace is dictated solely by jazzy drums played with bristles. Undoubtedly, one of the best productions of the Maestro from those early '70s, including Bruno Nicolai as a conductor and Edda Dell'Orso singing choirs.Yet another blend of music and imagery from the fervent Seventies to be rediscovered, here revived in LP format with a gatefold cover and a completely new graphic layout.Solid red & purple mixed vinyl edition.

Il Maestro's soundtrack is an impressive conglomeration of mournful trumpets, nervous guitars and percussive, sometimes atonal atmosphere pieces which establish a suitably tense mood. "Milano Odia: La polizia non può sparare", a 1974 movie directed by Umberto Lenzi, is the quintessence of the Italian police films. Not only, it's even more violent and extreme than usual, with one of the best interpretations ever by the Cuban actor Tomas Milian. The soundtrack for the film is commissioned to Ennio Morricone, who at the time was already a full-time score composer, and had already worked in the same field. The Maestro wrote the entire OST starting from a single, obsessive theme, arranged in many different ways for each different scene or atmosphere. The whole soundtrack had never been released until 2007, and this is the first whole edition on vinyl ever. "Il gatto a nove code" (The cat o 'nine tails), filmed in 1971, is the second film by Dario Argento, a horror thriller still distant from his horror works for which he will later become famous on an international level. The collaboration with the composer and conductor Ennio Morricone, already known for his work on Sergio Leone’s western movies, is here renewed after the success of "The Bird with the Crystal Plumage", and will continue with the third installment of the 'zoological trilogy', "Four Flies on Grey Velvet".

Dario Argento’s ‘opera prima’ ‘L’uccello dalle piume di cristallo’ was premiered in 1970 and marked an historical and revolutionary debut, being a truly original and innovative thriller. The stylistic choices of Argento mark a clear step forward from the thrillers of that era and even the soundtrack was something utterly special.Argento assigned the score to Ennio Morricone, composer of the soundtracks for ‘Comandamenti per un gangster’, ‘C’era una volta il west’, ‘Metti, una sera a cena’ ‘Un esercito di 5 uomini’ and ‘La stagione dei sensi’, which Argento had already written the screenplay of. For this movie the maestro adopted a particular style that draws heavily on contemporary music and on the studies of his Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. With ‘L’uccello dalle piume di cristallo’ Morricone develops this approach and defines a 'formula': he alternates traditional songs, built around an easy and immediate melody used as a leitmotiv, with avant-garde and abstract tracks that amplify the state of uneasiness and fear of the viewers of tension and violence sequences.Cinevox released this soundtrack on an LP with 10 tracks in the spring of 1971 when ‘Il gatto a nove code’ was already a big hit in the Italian cinemas. The record was originally issued in mono, with different tracks from the Stereo US version. This is the first vinyl reissue featuring the original score in Stereo, enclosed in a brand new artwork made by Adventprod studios!

Another AMS Records exclusive, another Cinevox rarity, this time broughtforth over 40 years ago by the genius of Ennio Morricone, in the heyday ofItalian underground cinema, years when true masterpieces were made, ofteninnovative from various points of view (plot, photography, colors, settings,screenplay...)."4 Mosche di Velluto Grigio" (4 Flies on Grey Velvet) ends the so-called'animal trilogy' by Dario Argento, and sees the director in an absolutelyinspired moment, yet probably unconscious that he'll leave an indelible markin the history of world cinema with his following works. This movie, for somereasons, was never officially released on videotape - apart, perhaps, in anobscure French edition - and only recently has finally been issued on opticaldisc, while from the soundtrack only released a 45rpm single was pressed atthe time, before it was fully recovered in the '90s.In "4 Flies ..." Morricone wrote one of his most 'rock-oriented' soundtracks -without of course neglecting his indelible touch - also thanks to the fact thatthe protagonist of the film is a rock drummer. You hear echoes of DeepPurple, not surprisingly given that Argento wanted them as the first authorsof the movie score, and it is no coincidence that his most famous film istitled... Deep Red!Another great reissue in gatefold LP format for collectors and soundtracksenthusiasts!
