From the church to the library, it's now time for 'A Sweet Excursion', courtesy of our favourite French funkateers, DJ Soulist & Fulgeance aka Souleance, offering up three tasty edits to feed the dancefloor.
'Fantasie' opens the set with an idyllically relentless rhodes-riff riding a slice of sugary boogie, with a super squelchy bassline and a healthy layer of disco percussion spread on top, for those with a sweet tooth.
The righteous horns of 'Lord' blaze into play next accompanied by a 4/4 disco kick, before the sugar rush kicks in and the band let loose an almighty groove. Even a soulful set of angels begin to sing, guaranteeing this one will bring out a lil' bit of that holy ghost within. We end out with 'Funkin' which does exactly what it says on the tin. A solid five minutes-plus of delectable heads-down funk containing all the right ingredients, and the French duo's own special sauce mixed into the pot for good measure.
With a decades worth of collaboration behind them, and persistent party rocking at festivals and clubs, Souleance continue to create tried & tested moments of sweetness on dancefloors across the globe. This three-tracker is no exception, and makes this another essential one for the record bags. 'A Sweet Excursion' is released on Excursions on Friday 29th June 2018 on limited three-track vinyl 12" only.

Our final Excursion of 2018 is one for the 'heads'. NameBrandSound provide us with two very different versions of one dancefloor destroying bruk riddim - 'A Heads Excursion'. NameBrandSound is IG Culture and Alex Phountzi. They've been releasing music as a duo since 2014, from their debut EP on Technicolor/NinjaTune, to releases on their own Arena Yard imprint, and remixes for the likes of Blue Lab Beats, Neue Grafik and Miraa May.
The duo entered the foray as integral players in the West London broken beat scene; their individual careers dating back to the nineties and working extensively on projects such as New Sector Movements (IG Culture) and Bugz In The Attic (Alex Phountzi), amongst numerous others. Heavily associated with the infamous CoOp club nights at London's Plastic People, this year saw the launch of their own 'CoOp Presents' record label, which aims to showcase new talent in the broken beat scene and beyond, drawing in musical influences far and wide, from jungle to jazz, dancehall to soul.
'Shrunken Heads' flips an eighties classic, containing one of the biggest basslines ever laid to wax that'll be instantly recognisable to everyone and their mum. This is a sure-shot floorfiller - you know, the kind that appears twice in a lifetime… On the flip, 'BeBop' takes the same riddim and transposes the vibe to a slinkier affair, complete with jazzy stabs and soulful vocal punches - a solid five minute roller. Two grooves that are guaranteed to never leave your record bag.
Strictly limited edition vinyl only - no sleeping!

For our fourth release, we're pleased to welcome The Showfa inside the Excursions kitchen, to cook us up something sizzling for your mind, body & soul. Wielding a nifty set of disco scissors, he's selected the finest of gospel cuts and brought them neatly to the boil, serving up three delectable dishes of hot spiritual gumbo. Soul food of the highest calibre.
Taking us to church straight off the bat, 'Thankful' builds and builds along an infectiously uplifting piano-heavy hook; an edit that bubbles away effortlessly akin to a Moodyman-esque disco groove, perfectly crafted for the dancefloor.
'He'll Answer' drops the tempo and tone to something slower & lower, lending its sound to that of the most proficient beat-masters, incorporating moody synths and haunting strings, in a true future gospel style and pattern.
The last serving on the plate is 'Jus' A Little Talk'€“ a cheeky flip of a classic that's destined to make the AOR diggers and connoisseurs salivate profusely. This retro yacht rock bumper closes out this joyously ethereal platter perfectly.

Already finding its way into the crates of selectors such as Gilles Peterson, Horse Meat Disco and Patrick Forge, it's also received love in Mixmag and across the airwaves, from NTS to Mi-Soul to Rinse FM.
Another essential Excursion on wax, and one that will never leave the box.
