Columbia Sound Treasures Series presents one of the holy grail of Japanese Anime original soundtracks (usually going from prices ranges between 300 and 700 euros), finally properly remastered and reissued for everybody to enjoy! Seiji Yokoyama is famous and known for having scored the animes “Captain Harlock” and “Saint Seya”. But as a prolific artist, he has done other somehow more confidential works, and amongst them the soundtrack for “The Tomb Of Dracula”, a 1980 TV anime movie by Toei Animation and based on the comic series developed by Marvel. The pitch : Dracula is messing with the church of Satan and stealing Dolores , the bride to be of the devil himself, falling in love, having a kid with her and trying to deal and escape all his enemies, including the devil, his followers, Frank Drake, Quincy Harker and Rachel Van Helsing (the daughter of Van Helsing) and even vampire-sniffing dog who wears a giant cross around its neck. At one point Dracula loses his powers and has to resort to mugging people so he has enough money to buy a hamburger. The soundtrack is a mysterious and strange combination of baroque, classical, disco and funk tracks which is the trademark and unique style of Seiji Yokoyama. The Theme of “Quincy Harker” reflects perfectly the atmosphere of the record, being laced by both classical baroque elements with a funk groove on some heavy drums. The soundtrack is as crazy as the movie and the 80's. 200 copies are available on a 1LP of 13 tracks including a 30 x 60 color insert.

The Italian funk god Luis Enriquez Bacalov is celebrated here with this unmissable 7-inch record, featuring two of his grooviest tracks ever: on the A-side, the legendary Carrefour is maybe his funkiest soundtrack piece, here released for the first time in its entirety, with an unexpected introduction via a powerful horn section, which was cut from the original 1976 RCA 7’’. Behold an eternal jazz-funk masterpiece with solid drum breaks and hip hop heavy beats, funky congas, wah wah guitar, psychedelic organ. This track was used for the 1976 movie “Colpita da improvviso benessere”, directed by Franco Giraldi, but was originally conceived for the 1974 movie “Sistemo l'America e torno” by Nanni Loy. For the B-side, we have chosen from this same score another killer groovy track which was already compiled on our Esterno Notte Volume 1 compilation. Sistemo L’America E Torno - SEQ. 7 has a tremendous rhythm section, a wonderful guitar riff, psychedelic flute, and stunning Hammond organ solos. This is another future classic from the golden age of Italian soundtracks, and an absolute must-have for any and all jazz-funk DJs worldwide!

In 2016, Milan Records had the pleasure of releasing the soundtrack to Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon, composed by Cliff Martinez. The synth-heavy electronic score went on to be one of the most critically-lauded soundtrack releases of the year, making numerous “Best of 2016” critic lists along the way. Refn now returns with his latest creation: The Wicked Die Young. The Wicked Die Young is the latest release in Milan’s “Nicolas Winding Refn Presents” series - a sublabel of releases curated by director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, The Neon Demon). Conceptualized as a companion album to The Neon Demon and curated by Refn, The Wicked Die Young compiles the music that he was listening to while writing and filming The Neon Demon. This album is a unique opportunity to enter the musical mind of one of the most visionary contemporary directors. This eclectic selection confirms his love of music from the disco of Giorgio Moroder and Tommy Seebach to the punk and rock of Suicide and 999! The album also features exclusive tracks by Cliff Martinez, Electric Youth and Julian Winding.

One of the rarest and most sought-after Italian holy grail soundtracks ever is finally back from the grave! Originally released in 1966 on Beat Records (45-BT 024), the KRIMINAL main theme was written by Romano Mussolini (Raymond Full in the opening credits) and Roberto Pregadio for this sleazy crime-pop movie directed by Umberto Lenzi, and based on the cult Italian comic hero. Actually, this could be considered one of the best swinging jazz-beat themes from the 60s, with its wonderful horn, acid vox continental organ, and terrific rhythmic guitar. On the B-side, we have another jewel from 1960s Italian spy-pop cinema: the main theme of “Il cobra” (from the Mario Sequi’s movie). This swinging and uptempo jazz-beat piece, written and conducted by the Spanish composer Antón García Abril, is a poisonous shake with a supergroovy mood – a double-sided floor-filler, not to be missed by any serious soul-jazz DJ.

“The Girl With The One-Eyed Cat” is a never released before soundtrack from a never released before Pinky Violence movie. Supposed to be out in 1971, this movie never made the light of day, even in Japan, because it was simply too violent and weird! It tells the story of a pimpstress and Yakuza contract killer who uses a one-eyed cat to kill her targets, they are mentally bound and can control each other. After being hunted by former employees, she decides to go on a rampage and eliminate all of her enemies, each one being sadistically killed, this resulting in bizarre scenes filled with rivers of blood and Japanese weirdness. Only some old pictures meant to be used for promotional purposes, and the explanation of the grandson of the director of the movie. The original rushes were, of course, destroyed in a fire and legend says that it could be possible that a backup copy exists somewhere in the Toei Archives. That said, the soundtrack is what you would expect from a Pinky Violence OST, fuzz guitars, drum breaks, funk themes all together, the particularity being that some of the tracks were also ''borrowed" from other Pinky Violence movies (and/or used later too in other Movies / TV Shows, but first created for this movie ) because the creators of this particular movie wanted to state that it was, unlike the others of the genre, completely above the law, so basically stealing music wasn't a problem, but mainly an act of rebellion, non-conformism, anyway here is the complete original soundtrack as intended to be at that time, first time ever on vinyl for everybody to enjoy. 200 copies are available on a 1LP of 20 tracks including a 30 x 60 color Pinky Violence themed insert.

Oronzo De Filippi (aka Rino De Filippi, Awake, Rigesti), component of Braen’s Machine, is one of the most enigmatic figures of the library music scene. Although it is reductive and simplistic to frame him in an exclusive genre within an already varied landscape. The master’s versatility, moves through the mesh of psychedelia, avant-garde, jingle, lullabies and more orthodox library music. Making use of disparate instruments in a symbiosis between popular culture that leaves you enchanted.Listen the crescendo of Tema Titoli or delicate Refrain Triste and its Spanish-guitar and piano or the suspense of Bosco Incantato; the psychedelic and imaginative Magia or the masterpiece Castello Incantato, with its powerfull electric bass, lysergic guitar, echoes, reverb and tenuous and sporadic rhythmic inserts of military marching drums (!).Among the best songs are, with no doubt, Melodia Drammatica, an attacking piece, characterized by a fast and enveloping psych groove; Bambola Triste, that recalls the soundtrack of a spaghetti western film, and, finally, Mercato Arabo, an hypnotic and refined tribal jewel, in which, vocalized voice and organ alternate themselves to draw oriental sound architectures. Seems like Liars 'Drums Not Dead' but composed thirty years before.

In March 2015, it was reported that Alexandre Desplat, who had worked with Edwards on the Godzilla reboot, would compose the score for “Rogue One”. Despite rumors that a contract had not been initially set in place by Lucasfilm, Desplat confirmed in an April 2016 interview that he would serve as composer for the film. However, in September 2016, it was announced that Michael Giacchino would be replacing Desplat as composer, after the film's reshoots altered the post-production schedule, and reportedly left Desplat no longer available.Giacchino only had four and a half weeks to compose the music for the film, beginning almost immediately after finishing production on Doctor Strange. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in November 2016, Giacchino stated: "It is a film that is in many ways a really great World War II movie, and I loved that about it. But it also has this huge, huge heart at the center of it, and that was the one thing I just didn't want to discount. Yes, it's an action movie, and it's a Star Wars film, and it has all the things that you would come to expect and love about that, but I didn't want to forget that it was also an incredibly emotional movie as well. That was what really pulled me in."Giacchino incorporated John Williams' themes from previous films into the score. All music was composed by Michael Giacchino except where noted. Giacchino, who has a history of using track titles that contain wordplay.

Wanna hear the soundtrack to Armageddon? This 1995 film starred William Sadler as the „Demon Knight“, who, along with his new recruit, Jada Pinkett Smith, is charged with fending off The Collector (Billy Zane) and his army of demons from acquiring an ancient relic that is the only thing preventing the complete destruction of the human race. While the flick did meh box office and was panned critically, the soundtrack was easily one of the best of its era and of its kind, an all-star line-up of thrash and heavy metal acts mostly doing otherwise unavailable material (only the track by Pantera appears to have been released prior to the movie). The Pantera, Megadeth, Melvins, and Biohazard entries are particulary good, and the one hip hop tune on the collection, Gravediggaz’ “1-800-Murder,” is an archetypal “horrorcore” rap song. But perhaps the best tune is “Hey Man Nice Shot” by Filter, an outfit that hadn’t released anything prior to this soundtrack. Since this movie came out in 1995, it only came out on LP in Europe; this Real Gone reissue brings it back on opaque green vinyl limited to 1100 copies!

The album features the critically-acclaimed score by composer Nicholas Britell, as well as choice songs including "Every Nigger Is A Star" by Boris Gardner, "Cell Therapy" by Goodie Mob and "Hello Stranger" by Barbra Lewis. Britell is an award-winning composer, pianist, and producer. In 2015, Britell scored Adam McKay's Oscar-nominated film The Big Short, and his music also featured prominently in Steve McQueen's Oscar-winning film 12 Years A Slave, for which he composed and arranged the on-camera music including the violin performances, spiritual songs, work songs, and dances. As a producer, Britell produced Damien Chazelle's short film Whiplash, and subsequently co-produced the Oscar-nominated feature film. Britell's emotional and evocative score to Moonlight has resonated with audiences from early festival screenings, earning accolades from critics in their reviews of the film which underline how the music is wrapped into the very fabric of the film itself.

For Data Disc's tenth release in partnership with SEGA of Japan, they offer two arcade classics – “Galaxy Force II” (1988) and “Thunder Blade” (1987) – together for the first time ever on vinyl. Composed by Koichi Namiki, Katsuhiro Hayashi and Tohru Nakabayashi, both soundtracks adopted an ambitious funk and fusion style, simulating an impressive range of real world instrumentation (think synthesizers, drums, slap bass and cowbells), which for its time and hardware limitations, is nothing short of astonishing. And yes, there’s even a coded slap bass solo. These two brief, but remarkable soundtracks each accommodate a single side of an LP, but work together seamlessly. “Galaxy Force II” includes a bonus arranged version of its leading track, “Beyond the Galaxy”, produced by Hiroshi “Hiro” Kawaguchi (composer of “OutRun”, “Space Harrier”) and features a full studio band, complete with brass section and a keyboard solo by Hiro himself. In addition, the “Thunder Blad”e side includes three unused tracksThe audio for both games was sourced from the original arcade machines and carefully mastered for vinyl. This release is presented as a 180g LP in 425gsm sleeve, accompanied by an OBI strip and lithographic print featuring original Galaxy Force II artwork sourced from the SEGA archives in Japan. Record is pressed on Translucent Yellow colored wax.

Data Discs presents the first ever vinyl edition of Yoshitaka Azuma’s score to SEGA’s classic rail-shooter, “Panzer Dragoon”. First released in 1995 to coincide with the North American launch of the Saturn console, “Panzer Dragoon” has since become a cult favourite, not only for its stark art direction, inspired by renowned French artist Jean “Mobieus” Giraud, but also for its sweeping soundtrack. Composed by the late Yoshitaka Azuma, whose previous solo albums for Nippon Columbia had drawn on everything from ambient, prog, krautrock and electronic minimalism, the music of Panzer Dragoon moves between swelling orchestral pieces, blasts of rhythmic synthesis and ambient passages that wouldn’t seem out of place in the Tangerine Dream discography. When viewed as a standalone concept album, “Panzer Dragoon” succeeds in somehow conveying, by the sum of its seemingly dissonant parts, that most basic of human fantasies; the sensation of being in flight. In the 90s.The score of “Panzer Dragoon” is presented as a double 180g LP, cut at 45rpm and housed in a single pocket, 425gsm mirror board sleeve with accompanying lithographic insert and silver laminated OBI strip. This release features the entirety of Azuma’s score, along with three bonus tracks of alternate synthesizer versions. Pressed on opaque blue colored wax.

Bruno Nicolai is a leading figure in the world of Italian soundtracks although he is primarily known for being the most important of Ennio Morricone’s collaborators and his orchestra conductor in the period of Morricone's greatest production (60‘ and 70’s). But Nicolai's solo works are certainly not of lesser artistic relevance. Tempo sospeso (Suspended Time) is one of the most representative albums in this sense that it was produced by Nicolai in 1975 without any filters or restrictions, in the period of his greatest artistic maturity. The style of his thriller soundtracks of the time, such as The Red Queen Kills Seven Times, Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key, The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave, and Eyeball, is evident here, as well as the vibe of the "electrified" western, largely for the acid fuzz guitar of Alessandro Alessandroni. The instrumentation is varied and the Maestro plays piano, harpsichord, organ, and synth. What is presented here is library music that is definitely above average. The new graphic design of this edition was created by Daniel Martin Diaz from Tucson, Arizona, known for his symbolist works that have been published in The LA Times, NY Times, Juxtapoz, High Fructose, and Low Rider Magazine, as well as four of his own art books. Inside the LP is a free postcard/photo of Maestro Nicolai, a portrait in front of his MOOG. Cover in solid cardboard.

After 40 years since its theatrical release, presented here for the first time on vinyl is the phenomenal soundtrack for IL GATTO DAGLI OCCHI DI GIADA (also known as ‘Watch Me When I Kill’) - directed by Antonio Bido (director of THE BLOODSTAINED SHADOW). This top-notch score is undeniably catchy, yet has its creepy moments. The film’s score was created by a supergroup specifically formed for this project and consisted of Adriano Monteduro (vocals and guitar; known for his 1974 record in which he was accompanied by prog band Reale Accademia Di Musica), Glauco Borelli (bass, already in Alberomotore), the well-known composer Mauro Lusini and Gianfranco Coletta who, besides being one of the pioneers of Italian psychedelia with Chetro and Co., was also a founding member of the Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. They chose the name Trans Europa Express with direct reference to Kraftwerk, who released their seminal record with the same title a few months prior.‘Watch Me When I Kill’ certainly has the compositional techniques and instrumentation related to Italian prog, but only less attentive and interested listeners might dismiss it as mere "Goblin-esque”: eerie sound interludes percussion, carillon, piano pieces, distorted and mystical screams, an old tunes in gramophone style, moments of (seemingly) tranquility and rock. The cyclical repetition and varied vaguely Goblin-ian guitar, cadenced by a pressing bass (which occasionally resembles that of Pink Floyd’s “One of These Days”), and a spectral and creepy scat vocal gives the listener pleasant moments of both fear and hypnotic tension. The LP comes packaged in a heavy cardboard cover with hollow cat eyes and a yellow inner-sleeve with photos from the set provided by director Antonio Bido.

This is arguably the best-known recording to feature any beat-era poet originally issued in 1959. Although “Howl” is the centerpiece, the peripheral works, especially the mantra-like “Footnote to Howl”, are given empowering presentations that magnify the greatness that’s inextricably inherent in both art and artist. Indeed, the genesis of Allen Ginsberg’s brilliance as both poet and performer has rarely been equalled. The modern listener remains entranced by his vaudevillian sense of provocation as it couples with an unspoken, yet palpable obsession of a postmodern amphetamine-fuelled Shakespeare.

Mondo celebrates the 30th anniversary of the “Contra” franchise with the premiere vinyl release of the original soundtrack to the 1992 Super Nintendo sequel: “Contra 3: Alien Wars”.Set 3 years after the original, Red Falcon and his legion have returned to Earth, this time with the intent of launching a full-scale war against its inhabitants. It's up to Bill and Lance, our heroes to scale walls, ride motorcycles, and even cling to soaring missiles in an attempt to defeat the onslaught. The music of “Contra 3: The Alien Wars” is epic to say the least - the looping sequences of each level are longer, taking full advantage of the new audio capabilities available to the composers on the Super Nintendo. In some instances, like with 'Battle Runner' which operates on-the-rails for large stretches, it affords for the composers to have some sequences to go nearly two minutes before a single loop. The sweeping scope of these tracks leads to a chaos absent from the previous chapters of the run-and-gun series, while still obeying the structures and pacing of Video Game music... Just with more complex time signatures, and percussion patterns. This 30th anniversary edition features all 13 BGM tracks from the game.

Mondo celebrates the 30th anniversary of the “Castlevania” franchise with the premiere vinyl release of the original soundtrack to the 1989 Famicom / Nintendo Entertainment System Three-quel / Prequel: “Dracula's Curse”.“Dracula's Curse” is a dark horse for most beloved of the original NES / FAMICOM trilogy, as it was a happy marriage of the linear elements of the first “Castlevania” and the more exploratory elements of “Simon’s Quest” – a union that led to the introduction of multiple playable characters, multiple paths and multiple endings – that remain franchise staples even today. The story follows Trevor Belmont, Simon’s ancestor and his battles with the prince of darkness, along side three other warriors: Grant Danasty the Pirate, Sypha Belnades the Mystic, and Alucard, Dracula’s Son, who makes series debut here, and will play a more pivotal role in the games to come. The soundtrack to “Dracula's Curse” is important as well. Not only for fan favorite track ‘Beginning,’ a track you’d be nary to find excluded from any future “Dracula's Curse” game, but for the dynamic audio introduced on the Japanese version of the game. The VRC6 Audio chip contained in the Japanese version allowed for a wider array of sound channels, producing a brighter, fuller soundtrack than on the cartridge released in the US. The Nintendo Entertainment System could not process this level of audio, so the version released in the US needed to have the audio scaled back. Despite this audio handicap the US version is still terrific, and the superiority of the which version best is still a matter of debate to this day. No need to choose though, since Mondo’s vinyl re-issue contains both, spread across two LPs, housed in a gatefold jacket featuring amazing new artwork by Sachin Teng.

Elsewhere, however, the soundtrack opts for some pleasant, but very Western jazz, only stopping for the African instrument-sampler "The Sounds of Hatari," which features some nice treated piano.

Composed by the famous "Big 3" film composers Piero Umiliani, Piero Piccioni and Armando Trovajoli as well as pioneering musicians such as Giorgio Gaslini, Chet Baker, the MJQ's John Lewis and Sandro Brugnolini, here are some of the earliest jazz soundtracks that emerged from the golden age of 'Commedia All'Italiana' through to cult experimental cinema (by film directors such as Mario Monicelli through to Michelangelo Antonioni). The expertly curated collection of high quality jazz ranges from the swing to cool/hard bop of the late 1950s to the expanding possibilities of both the modal and 'third stream' fusions in the early 1960s. Pressed on 180gm vinyl, this is specialist, old school vinyl that features extensive, in-depth sleeve and insert notes written by Jazzwise film expert Selwyn Harris and the Sienna jazz Archivist/author Francesco Martinelli.
