It is with great pride that Sacred Bones Records announces its official, expanded, re-release of the soundtrack to David Lynch's landmark 1977 film, Eraserhead. This limited deluxe edition includes: a 16 page booklet, three 11"x11" prints, digital download, and a limited edition Peter Ivers 7". A-side of the single is "In Heaven" and the B-side unearths a newly discovered original Ivers recording entitled "Pete's Boogie", taken from the original audio tapes and mixed by Lynch himself. Eraserhead rests firmly at the top of that canon of American underground culture for which there is no genre. A staple of the dark underbelly of popular cinema that was originally only viewable at arthouse screenings or on the Midnight Movie circuit, Eraserhead is a truly unadulterated offering; and much of its sensation lies beyond the purely visual realm. The stark, dusty black and white images put forth are caked with and submerged in a dense jungle of industrial hums, buzzes, screeches and screams. Eraserhead is a narrative made up of two intertwined veins: one of bleak and beautiful pictures elegantly painted in gray and black, and one of blankets of sublime, enveloping noise and static, the tinkering of Fats Waller organ rolls echoing in the background. To lay in the dark and listen to this dizzying succession of blissful noise is a different way to get "lost" than in the visuals of the film itself. It's no stretch to consider this soundtrack an experimental, early industrial masterpiece. Eraserhead's individual passion and personal tone shines through even in the thickest moments of fierce static, an audio undertaking that took David Lynch and sound designer Alan Splet years to perfect. Eraserhead's most famous piece of music is undoubtedly Peter Ivers' unforgettable, oft-covered haunting ballad "In Heaven," and the most exciting attribute of this edition of the soundtrack is no doubt its expansion, and it's present here, along with "Pete's Boogie," an Ivers recording previously only available on the long out-of-print limited edition LP of this soundtrack.

Animated sci-fi masterpiece La Planète Sauvage (a.k.a. Fantastic Planet), winner at Cannes Film Festival in 1973, is a bizarre and beautiful film. Towering blue-skinned figures, tiny humanoids in the midst of revolt, and drug-induced Tantric sex transport viewers to a truly magical setting. Composer Alain Goraguer creates an equally hypnotic score from a palette of effects-laden guitars, flutes, Fender Rhodes and strings. While the lush arrangements are reminiscent of Goraguer’s collaborations with Serge Gainsbourg in the 1960s, space-age synth flourishes suggest a more psychedelic era. Moody vignettes flow together in tense, slow-paced funk rhythms and Baroque textures. It comes as no surprise that La Planète Sauvage has been cited as an influence on contemporary artists such as French duo Air and American hip-hop producers J Dilla and Madlib. Gorgeous, interplanetary soundscapes resemble the surreal meeting point between Pink Floyd’s Obscured by Clouds and Broadcast’s Future Crayon. This long out-of-print vinyl release features the original soundtrack recording and newly designed artwork. Recommended for fans of Ennio Morricone, Basil Kirchin and David Axelrod.

Fire Walk With Me is an altogether more brooding affair than the Twin Peaks series soundtrack. Badalamenti won a grammy for the title track of this LP and it's not hard to see why- it's dangerous, and bursting with smokey jazz thanks to Jimmy Scott. We went back to the master tapes in the Warner Archives and had this recut to fit across two LPs as the score clocks in at 51 minutes. It sounds incredible and punchy, but super nuanced too. From the brooding opening bars of the main Fire Walk With Me Theme, Angelo Badalamenti's gorgeous, eerie score introduces us to a cinematic experience which significantly begins with the smashing of a television screen. Just as the Main Title from Blue Velvet echoed the Hitchcockian hues of Bernard Herrmann, so here we have just the slightest touch of Taxi Driver, as Jim Hynes' plaintive, keening trumpet soars above a landscape of melancholy keyboards, drawing us into a world which is at once alien and familiar. This release is housed in a 425-gsm gatefold sleeve inside a bespoke black die cut outer jacket with black spot varnish finish, complete with obi strip and sleeve notes by film critic Mark Kermode (approved by David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti The artwork got fully approved by the director as the audio got approved by the composerThe 180-gram „Cherry Pie“ vinyl 2LP got remastered by Tal Miller at Warner Archives, while laquers were cut by David Cheppa at Plush Vinyl.

Yuji Ohno is a Japanese jazz musician born in 1941. He’s principally known for his musical scoring of Japanese anime-television series, of which Lupin III and the feature film The Castle of Cagliostro are his most well known works. Ohno is also well-known as a member of a jazz trio with bassist Miroslav Vitous and drummer Lenny White. The tracks collected here for Lupin The Third: TV Special are oozing with seventies cool, exemplified by opener ‘Theme From Lupin III’: the snares shuffle, the pianos tease and the upright bass walks with all the swagger of a French master thief. Great funky tunes from the Japanese jazz master!

Egisto Macchi, often remembered as a member of Gruppo d'improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, the historic Italian improvising collective (that also included Franco Evangelisti and Ennio Morricone, among others), was a major figure within the contemporary music field from the Fifties to the Eighties. The life path of Egisto Macchi seemed to be devoted to the multiplicity of aesthetic choices and musical expressions. While tracing his life and work, one notices an interesting duality based both on a very inclusive approach towards all kind of expressive needs and full control of the level of communication. A complex personality revealing the coherence of a man trying to connect elements usually kept separate. The inherent need for approaching different sources and the ability to be inspired by a wide range of intuitions. Macchi has explored and experimented in the field of sound and music without ever forgetting about his moral and civil engagement. His compositional work takes shape from the idea that music and arts should be able to create a symbiotic contact between the creator (composer) and the beneficiary (listener). All his work finds its origin in the need to integrate the sound language with the feeling of a new developing society. In fact music was just one factor in a more complex chain which included his humanistic and sociological engagement. A syncretic philosophical narrative, in other words, a symbolic tale revealing deep anthropological aspects. BIOLOGIA ANIMALE E VEGETALE, produced by Renato Pent, recorded in Torino in 1976 and originally published as double LP, can be considered one of Egisto Macchi's major works. A rare collector’s item finally reissued in a limited edition (600 copies) luxurious 3LP Box Set (180gr + download).

"Mark il poliziotto" (Blood, Sweat and Fear) is a 1975 movie directed byStelvio Massi, the first of a successful trilogy featuring Franco Gasparri asmain character in the role of drug squad commissioner Mark; the actor hadbeen borrowed from the world of photonovels, typical Italian photographicstories published on several magazines that saw him as protagonist forseveral years. The film is one of the most successful examples of the'Italo-crime' genre under many points of view: the plot, the script, thebreathtaking chases and shootouts and, last but not least, the soundtrack. The music for "Mark il poliziotto" was written by Stelvio Cipriani, who hadalready worked with Massi the previous year for "Squadra volante"(Emergency squad). An extremely prolific composer, he can undoubtedly beplaced next to Micalizzi, Bacalov and Morricone for the quantity andespecially the quality and importance of his works.More than many others, this soundtrack is pervaded, in its most energetictracks, by a strong funky groove that recalls the typical sound of the US'blaxploitation' phenomenon; the classical/orchestral component isn't presenthere, in favor of a mix of rock music, wind instruments and keyboards likeHammond and Harpsichord. Everything is, as usual, perfectly balanced withmore smooth and reflective tracks such as "Tenerezza", "Lei e la madre","Nella stanza di lei" and "Porte chiuse".A great Italian 'poliziottesco' classic, originally released in '75 by CinevoxRecord and never reissued on LP to date. This edition, curated by AMSRecords, contains a second take of the song "La fine di Cobb" as a bonustrack, a front cover faithful to the original one and a completely new artworkthat includes extensive liner notes and reproductions of flyers and lobbycards of the film.

Too Late Blues (1962) is certainly one of the greatest films ever made about the jazz world; It was a perfect match between subject matter and filmmaker. In 1959, Cassavetes had starred in a TV series called Johnny Staccato, playing a jazzman who moonlights as a detective. The film’s brilliant music score is courtesy of David Raksin and performed by such jazz legends as Benny Carter, Red Mitchell and Shelly Manne. Raksin’s theme tune, mimed by Ghost’s group during the opening credits, immediately establishes the film’s cool, sardonic tone, and neatly mimics the attitude with which the actors deliver their lines. The easy way out would have been to do standards, but Raksin wrote all original music for the film, even for the source cues. And what music it is – Raksin at his best, and Raksin at his best is as good as it gets.

Castellari. Perhaps the most forceful OST from the Italian duo, Il Grande Racket consists of fuzz distortion and electronic effects from the beginning to the end. This sonic gem is also enriched with psychedelic flutes, obsessive rhythms, and percussion which results with a totally prog-rock and psych-funk score that perfectly describes the main elements of the film: action, tension and violence. Bruno Nicolai is a leading figure in the world of Italian soundtracks although he is primarily known for being the most important of Ennio Morricone’s collaborators and his orchestra conductor in the period of Morricone's greatest production (60‘ and 70’s). But Nicolai's solo works are certainly not of lesser artistic relevance. Tempo sospeso (Suspended Time) is one of the most representative albums in this sense that it was produced by Nicolai in 1975 without any filters or restrictions, in the period of his greatest artistic maturity. The style of his thriller soundtracks of the time, such as The Red Queen Kills Seven Times, Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key, The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave, and Eyeball, is evident here, as well as the vibe of the "electrified" western, largely for the acid fuzz guitar of Alessandro Alessandroni. The instrumentation is varied and the Maestro plays piano, harpsichord, organ, and synth. What is presented here is library music that is definitely above average. The new graphic design of this edition was created by Daniel Martin Diaz from Tucson, Arizona, known for his symbolist works that have been published in The LA Times, NY Times, Juxtapoz, High Fructose, and Low Rider Magazine, as well as four of his own art books. Inside the LP is a free postcard/photo of Maestro Nicolai, a portrait in front of his MOOG. Cover in solid cardboard.

Columbia Sound Treasures Series presents one of the holy grail of Japanese Anime original soundtracks (usually going from prices ranges between 300 and 700 euros), finally properly remastered and reissued for everybody to enjoy! Seiji Yokoyama is famous and known for having scored the animes “Captain Harlock” and “Saint Seya”. But as a prolific artist, he has done other somehow more confidential works, and amongst them the soundtrack for “The Tomb Of Dracula”, a 1980 TV anime movie by Toei Animation and based on the comic series developed by Marvel. The pitch : Dracula is messing with the church of Satan and stealing Dolores , the bride to be of the devil himself, falling in love, having a kid with her and trying to deal and escape all his enemies, including the devil, his followers, Frank Drake, Quincy Harker and Rachel Van Helsing (the daughter of Van Helsing) and even vampire-sniffing dog who wears a giant cross around its neck. At one point Dracula loses his powers and has to resort to mugging people so he has enough money to buy a hamburger. The soundtrack is a mysterious and strange combination of baroque, classical, disco and funk tracks which is the trademark and unique style of Seiji Yokoyama. The Theme of “Quincy Harker” reflects perfectly the atmosphere of the record, being laced by both classical baroque elements with a funk groove on some heavy drums. The soundtrack is as crazy as the movie and the 80's. 200 copies are available on a 1LP of 13 tracks including a 30 x 60 color insert.

When Kaneda gets involved in an antigovernment guerrilla movement, he encounters Kei, a member of the revolutionaries, and learns that the goal of the fighters is to infiltrate a secret laboratory – the very one where Tetuso is being held. The experiments to awaken Tetsuo’s powers are a terrifying success as he begins to wield psychic energy he cannot control - reminiscent of the emergence of the legendary esper boy "Akira”, which triggered World War III. The stage set, a fierce battle begins between Kaneda, Kei, the army and Tetsuo with the destiny of Earth at stake. The symphonic music to AKIRA was composed by Dr. Shoji Yamashiro, head of the beloved Japanese musical collective Geinoh Yamashirogumi, and performed by the group. Rerecorded and remastered using the most advanced audio techniques available, this release of the unforgettable score of AKIRA is peerless in quality and audio fidelity. The discs are housed in a pair of high quality eurosleeves displaying artwork from the film which are in turn packaged in a gatefold jacket featuring the beautiful skyline of Neo-Tokyo. A download card including a lengthy commentary by Dr. Yamashiro on topics ranging from AKIRA to Geinoh Yamashirogumi to his work in advanced brain studies is also included.

Rome, Aventino, one of the most amazing neighborhoods in the South area of the capital city. In an old garage, fully stored and preserved, tons of 1/4 inch tapes represent the monumental and brilliant work of one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century: the master Piero Piccioni. Caring for, listening to, and taking stock is his son, Jason. We asked him to select three out of many; three chapters of the master’s work, three scores to be rescued and brought to the light in all their expressive and communicative power. Camille 2000 would be the first in the ongoing series. Never published until today on vinyl, it was carefully transferred from the original masters and embellished with several alternative takes and fragments that remained unpublished until now. The work of restoration was performed by Giuliano Radiciotti, while the mastering was made by multi Grammy winner Brian Lucey. "I remember when I heard this music for the very first time in my father's studio in the early 90s. It was truly something revolutionary. It sounded so contemporary that it seems it was written in those days. Can't believe it was twenty years before then, instead!"

Jackie is a biographical film from Chilean director Pablo Larraín. Starring Natalie Portman (Black Swan) in the title role, the movie follows Jacqueline Kennedy from the days when she was First Lady of the White House to the aftermath of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Critically lauded since its debut at the Venice Film Festival where it won the Best Screenplay Award, Jackie also received the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival and is a heavy favorite going into awards season. The score to Jackie was composed by experimental British musician Mica Levi, best known for her ethereal score to 2013’s sleeper hit Under the Skin. Mournful and eerie with a touch of the surreal, Levi has delivered an unmistakable musical tapestry every bit as iconic as Jackie O herself.Jackie is getting the vinyl treatment. The mastered-for-vinyl score is pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and housed in a heavy stock euro sleeve featuring black-and-white artwork of Jackie. “The Last Wave” (also known as “Black Rain” in the US) was the final chapter in a trilogy of films scripted and directed by the leading auteur of the Australian New Wave, Peter Weir. “The Last Wave” was a landmark in existential horror. Sitting alongside other Australian eco-terror films (e.g. “Long Weekend”) the film featured a haunting electronic soundtrack that is as mysterious and beguiling as the spiritual themes of the film itself. With no LP issued after the films premiere in 1977, and together with the mystery surrounding the true identity of its enigmatic composer ‘Charles Wain’, the score is a largely unheard recording of pioneering experimental film electronics, easily compared to the music that contemporaries Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream were composing for Australian films during the same period or the electronic soundtracks of John Carpenter. Tense atonal electronics, synthesizer drones and manipulated Didgeridoo all perfectly capture the film’s ominous atmosphere, punctuating the slow hypnotic pace of this brooding supernatural thriller. All original 12 tracks have been sourced from the original stereo master tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl. The deluxe packaging includes archival film stills and original press material.

A masterpiece of suspense and no-holds barred action, Puppet on a Chain wasadapted from Alistair Maclean's 1969 novel and released in 1971. Directed byGeoffrey Reeve and starring a granite-jawed Sven-Bertil Taube, the film's signatureboat chase (lasting eight minutes!) along the canals of Amsterdam was rumoured tobe the inspiration for the similar sequence in Bond's Live and Let Die. The action isunderpinned by Italian soundtrack maestro Piero Piccioni's blistering Hammondheavyscore. Piccioni composed around 300 soundtracks over four decades, but wasmost prolific during the 60's and 70's, when he was sought out by directors includingFrancesco Rosi, Mario Monicelli, Alberto Lattuada, Luchino Visconti, BernardoBertolucci, Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica and Lina Wertmuller. A talentedself-taught jazz musician, Piccioni's soundtrack to Puppet on a Chain retainseffortless style, portraying a decadent 1970's Amsterdam overrun with drugs andorganised crime.

There was so much happening visually in the Wachowski Brothers' instant sci-fi classic The Matrix that it was easy to overlook Don Davis' score. It is true that Davis' music is the most conventional element of the film, often following familiar action film patterns, but that's not to say that it's predictable. There are long quiet stretches that are quite eerie, even without the film to support the music, and he employs dissonance and quick, powerful staccatos quite effectively. And when he turns to grand, sweeping themes, such as on the closing "Anything Is Possible," it's hard not get caught up in the momentum of the piece. It still works better with the film, but The Matrix is the rare score that is nearly as effective as a stand-alone work as it is in the film. - allmusic.com

Un Uomo Da Rispettare translates to “A Man to Respect,” which can easily be said of Ennio Morricone himself—the unparalleled maestro of the soundtrack. This 1972 crime film stars Kirk Douglas as a master safecracker at a crossroads in his life, emerging from prison yet tempted by one last big job. Morricone builds the main theme around Cicci Santucci’s flugelhorn as riveting leitmotifs reprise amidst variations of noir-jazz abstraction to frame the composer’s grand vision. A strident, two-note piano phrase sets the mood of heightened tension, while muted timpani and trance-like descending bass patterns sweep dramatically across the cinematic stereo field. On “18 Pari,” slinky rhythms and softened wah-wah guitars offer a distinctly Italian library music, adding elements of lightness to the overall avant-garde score. Un Uomo Da Rispettare’s dissonant chords and angular arrangements recall Morricone’s free improvisation work with Gruppo D’Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza. This first-time vinyl reissue is recommended for fans of Krzysztof Penderecki, Harry Partch and Sun City Girls.

In addition to John Barry’s spellbinding original score, several pieces of popular music can be heard throughout the film transmitting from a portable radio, an obvious symbol of western civilization as the protagonists wander disorientated in the ancient tribal Australian wilderness. Here we have documented one of these tracks on limited edition 7” vinyl, a forgotten slice of late 60s lysergic studio-psych from the New York singer-songwriter Billy Mitchel. Produced by Brooks Arthur (Holy Mountain Soundtrack), “Electronic Dance” is a whirling mix of Indian raga, heavy jazz drums, buzzing electronics and tape collage melding into blue-eyed soul folk from the Woodstock scene. This novelty album, released in 1966 during the height of the Batman & Robin craze, was initially credited to the "The Sensational Guitars of Dan and Dale" and featured an album full of tracks based on the popular TV show like "The Batman Theme Song", "The Penguin Chase", and "The Batcave". The album is entirely instrumental, except for someone singing "Batmaaaan!" in the theme song. But the interesting thing about this album, and what makes it an absolute cult gem, are the musicians who are behind it all: basically a joint collaboration between Sun Ra's Arkestra and Danny Kalb's Blues Project (one of the first psychedelic rock bands as well as one of the world's first jam bands). "Dan and Dale" were actually blues guitarist Danny Kalb and Steve Katz (later of Blood, Sweat & Tears) on dueling guitars, while Sun Ra and Al Kooper take over organ duties (a Hammond B-3) and members of Ra's Arkestra play sax.

Orange Mountain is pleased to announce for the first time on vinyl Philip Glass's 1998 score to the 1931 film Dracula starring Bela Lugosi. For his new score, Philip Glass tapped the all-star Kronos Quartet and wrote specifically for them. In the late-1990s Universal Pictures approached composer Philip Glass to compose a new score for one of its classic monster movies. Glass chose to compose a score for Tod Browning's 1931 Dracula because it never had an original score. He composed the work for string quartet to evoke an ancient sound and now almost 20 years later Glass and Kronos continue to perform the music live to film around the world. In the end Glass's music gave the film new life, perhaps adding something that had been missing before there was music: structure and pacing and above all a new sense of mystery and soul.First time available on vinyl.

With their charming look of exploitation LPs, Sexedelic's Sexedelic and it’s ‘brother’ album The Vampires' Sound Incorporation's Psychedelic Dance Party (also reissued on Wah Wah as LPS185) hide the joint works of German composers Manfred Hübler and Siegfried Schwab that were used on three classic 1970 b-movies directed by Spanish film maker Jess Franco:· Vampyros Lesbos· The Devil Came From Akasava · She Killed In EcstasyBesides the film director and the soundtrack composers, these three films also shared the presence of Spanish actress Soledad Miranda.Manfred Hübler's work, other than the one appeared on these three films, remains pretty unknown - although prior to partnering with Siegfried Schwab he did soundtracks for several other films and TV series from 1966 through 1969, among them Intercontinental Express (TV series, 12 episodes in 1966), Code Name Is Kill (1967), Polizeifunk ruft (TV series, 6 episodes in 1968), Der Partyphotograph (1968) and The Butterfly (1970).Siegfried 'Siggi' Schwab, on the other hand, has an extense career with hundreds of recordings, including soundtracks and records, and is also known as a key member in albums by krautrock bands like Et Cetera or Embryo (his guitar pyrotechnics are big part of the personality of their Father, Son and Holy Ghosts LP which was also reissued on Wah Wah some years ago).Original copies of these LPs could be found for next to nothing in European flea markets until the mid 1990s, when Lucertola Media compiled them both on the 3 Films By Jess Franco CD. The amazing sounds that mixtured jazz pianos, easy listening brass section, psychedelic fuzz guitar, pop harpsichord lines, exotic sitar, and funky bass & drum beats were rediscovered and given new life when a compilation LP featuring the grooviest tracks from both albums was an instant hit which ran high in the alternative music sales charts. The legend grew when 'The Lions And The Cucumber,' opening track from The Vampires' Sound Incorporation's LP, was picked by Quentin Tarantino and given mainstream exposure on his third film Jackie Brown (1997), starring Pam Grier, Robert Forster, Robert de Niro, Samuel L. Jackson, Bridget Fonda and Michael Keaton. The ‘Vampyros Lesbos sound’ became a classic, awakening also new interest on the movies themselves which have been also issued on DVD since then. The music of Hübler and Schwab has also been sampled and revisited by many artists.Since then, original copies of The Vampires' Sound Incorporation and Sexedelic LPs fetch small (and not so small!) fortunes in the collector's market. Now, for the first time, the original albums from which all these amazing tracks were taken from are reissued in its original complete tracklists and sleeve artwork. Owning these two LPs is the only way to have in vinyl format all the original material issued by Hübler and Schwab - all previous reissues omit tracks from the original LPs.Now, for the first time ever, these extremely sought after LPs get a straight reissue in their original artwork, expanded with the inclusion of an 8-page full colour booklet that includes many photos and liner notes.Made in a limited edition of 1000 copies.

During the '60s and '70s, three distinguished gentlemen who had built their careers playing French-made exotic jazz (Roger Roger, Nino Nardini and orchestra leader Eddie Warner) met each evening in the Ganaro recording studio. They mainly experimented -or simply played- with keyboards that looked like prototypes of spaceships. Flying high on whimsical and joyful inspiration, the improbable trio used their strange instruments to sketch out the beginnings of something that, at that time, resembled the future of music. This collection presents some of the highlights that resulted from their light-hearted, electronic pop sessions.

Presenting one of the greatest works by maestro Armando Trovajoli; a solid Italian easy listening masterpiece. After its commercial debut in 1968 as an original soundtrack of famous Italian TV-movie, this record gained renewed interest in the 1990s when four tracks were compiled in the immortal Easy Tempo series. From then on, La Famiglia Benvenuti has not only been considered of Trovajoli’s most sought after records, but has achieved the status of being the manifesto of the Roman swinging sixties - a lively addition to the delightfully cool sounds of the late 1960s, made possible by the following key ingredients: the Marc 4 sound (a steady presence for almost every Trovajoli recording); the outstanding I Cantor i Moderni di Alessandroni, with their unmistakable vocal harmonies; and lastly, the eccentric use of the harpsichord (a signature of Trovajol i ' s spaghetti soundtracks of the period). Behold a brilliant cocktail of groovy bossa, terrific shake, catchy tunes, and pop songs, as the amazing La Decisione, sung by Donatella Luttazzi, daughter of the great Lelio. An absolute must-have for any serious soundtrack collector, and reissued here on vinyl for the very first time!

It's with the utmost fan-thusiasm - and a joyous, child-like *giggle* - that we proudly unveil the vinyl soundtrack to the PlayStationr-exclusive opus, The Last Guardian. While the game itself won't be released on PS4 until December 6th, 2016, its legacy is already fully sewn - The Last Guardian humbly follows in the footsteps of Japan Studio's previous efforts - the emotionally wrought, epically honed masterpieces of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Composer Takeshi Furukawa delicately blends the scope of high adventure with the touching subtlety of an unlikely friendship. That unusual bond of boy & beast resonates deeply in the rich, orchestral score, accented further by wistfully beautiful album art by famed Nimit Malavia (noted for his elegant Fables covers). This soundtrack is as timeless as it is touching. Period.

Austin Wintory is a name we're quite familiar with at iam8bit with previous scores to Banner Saga, flOw, and Journey, ABZU falls right in line. This score has a quite a story as it was started 3 years ago, and was created in tandem with the game. According to Austin the score took quite a few shapes before it finally became a whole and found it's way into ABZU's oceanic landscape. Featuring an amazing cascade of both orchestral & oceanic ambience, the score is both dense and stunning. This score features The Nashville Scoring Orchestra, London Voices and Abzu Harp Ensemble, giving the listener a truly immersive experience. Large harp ensembles, chamber choir and semi-traditional orchestra mixed with the oboe solos of Kristin Naigus results in one our most favorite scores of this year. Artwork has been carefully crafted by Nimit Malavia featuring the ABZU's undersea world.

Mondo celebrates the 30th anniversary of the “Castlevania” franchise with the premiere vinyl release of the original soundtrack to the 1989 Famicom / Nintendo Entertainment System Three-quel / Prequel: “Dracula's Curse”.“Dracula's Curse” is a dark horse for most beloved of the original NES / FAMICOM trilogy, as it was a happy marriage of the linear elements of the first “Castlevania” and the more exploratory elements of “Simon’s Quest” – a union that led to the introduction of multiple playable characters, multiple paths and multiple endings – that remain franchise staples even today. The story follows Trevor Belmont, Simon’s ancestor and his battles with the prince of darkness, along side three other warriors: Grant Danasty the Pirate, Sypha Belnades the Mystic, and Alucard, Dracula’s Son, who makes series debut here, and will play a more pivotal role in the games to come. The soundtrack to “Dracula's Curse” is important as well. Not only for fan favorite track ‘Beginning,’ a track you’d be nary to find excluded from any future “Dracula's Curse” game, but for the dynamic audio introduced on the Japanese version of the game. The VRC6 Audio chip contained in the Japanese version allowed for a wider array of sound channels, producing a brighter, fuller soundtrack than on the cartridge released in the US. The Nintendo Entertainment System could not process this level of audio, so the version released in the US needed to have the audio scaled back. Despite this audio handicap the US version is still terrific, and the superiority of the which version best is still a matter of debate to this day. No need to choose though, since Mondo’s vinyl re-issue contains both, spread across two LPs, housed in a gatefold jacket featuring amazing new artwork by Sachin Teng.

The Italian funk god Luis Enriquez Bacalov is celebrated here with this unmissable 7-inch record, featuring two of his grooviest tracks ever: on the A-side, the legendary Carrefour is maybe his funkiest soundtrack piece, here released for the first time in its entirety, with an unexpected introduction via a powerful horn section, which was cut from the original 1976 RCA 7’’. Behold an eternal jazz-funk masterpiece with solid drum breaks and hip hop heavy beats, funky congas, wah wah guitar, psychedelic organ. This track was used for the 1976 movie “Colpita da improvviso benessere”, directed by Franco Giraldi, but was originally conceived for the 1974 movie “Sistemo l'America e torno” by Nanni Loy. For the B-side, we have chosen from this same score another killer groovy track which was already compiled on our Esterno Notte Volume 1 compilation. Sistemo L’America E Torno - SEQ. 7 has a tremendous rhythm section, a wonderful guitar riff, psychedelic flute, and stunning Hammond organ solos. Composed by Yuzo Koshiro, 'The Revenge Of Shinobi' is one of the most revered and timeless soundtracks of the 16bit era. Dating back to 1989, the music for the Mega Drive game (known as 'The Super Shinobi' in Japan) blends western dance music with Japanese overtones to create something truly unlike anything else before. This soundtrack was Koshiro's first commissioned work for SEGA and served as a forerunner to his seminal 'Streets Of Rage' trilogy.
