The project, born from the initial effort of Andrea Fabrizii, who has far and wide been exploring Umiliani's soundtracks before anyone else, led Four Fliesresearch to seek for new unreleased recordings at the Maestro's archive.A challenge that Pierpaolo De Sanctis from Four Flies Records accepted without hesitation – with the help of the Umiliani family. His two daughters Alessandra and Elisabetta Umiliani, true keepers of their father's memory, together with their husbands Francesco Argento and John Linkowski, and of course, Piero's wife Stefania Baffa, have been pivotal in compiling this exciting project. The result is a cross-cutting portrait of Umiliani's activity during the golden years of his Sound Work Shop, the studio- laboratory where he has been playing, creating and experimenting with total freedom from 1969 to 1983.

Four Flies Records is back in full force, this time with an reissue of an EP released earlier in 2017 that looks at the more sophisticated and modern dancefloor... The Italian label embarked on another journey of rediscovery, a specialty they seem to master. The destination of this trip was a dusty vault in Africa, where a famous Italian musician moved years ago... The Italian film and TV industry provided in the 60s and 70s countless opportunity for talented musicians to compose and produce a rich variety of music: soundtracks, library music, experimental music – an infinite amount of recordings that still represents a paradise for the most curious and passionate diggers. So here we have the proof that there’s still lot to discover. Alessandro Alessandroni is one of those pioneers, a maestro that built the legend of Italian soundtracks and library music along with Ennio Morricone, Piero Umiliani and many others. His vault testifies how prolific had been those times, with hundreds of tapes and obscure recordings from that period. Among the many, a dusty tape bearing the hand-written label “Afro Discoteca” captured the attention of Four Flies. The music contained in the tape had never been released until now. When he listened to the tracks, Italian legendary DJ LEO MAS (one of the undisputed inventors of the Balearic sound) told us: “It is surprising to listen to something that sounds so modern... This EP is the perfect union of Afro influences and Italian taste. There’s something Afro lounge here but also incredibly cinematic – it makes me think of John Carpenter’s atmospheres. B1 (Afrodiscoteca) reminds me of clubs I’ve been in Malindi in the late 70s and the closing track is absolutely spellbinding.

Limited to 400 copies.Right after La Polizia Incrimina, La Legge Assolve (High Crime), the magic duo of Italian poliziotteshi conceive yet another highlight of the genre - the groovy, melancholic score of Milano Trema: La Polizia Vule Giustizia (The Violent Professionals, 1973), which perfectly sets the tone of metropolitan violence presented on the screen. A dramatic sound, which preludes the acid-prog and gloomy music created for Il Grande Racket (The Big Racket) just three years later, with lots of flutes, clavinet, frenzied percussions, deep basslines and experimental effects. The result is a disturbing atmosphere of suspence, always on the verge of exploding in deep piano notes that highlight the most violent moments of the film. With the main theme “Blue Song”, repeated several times with endless instrumental variations, the De Angelis brothers set a dark-romantic atmosphere which becomes a manifesto of disenchantment and the perfect accompaniment for the detective story.Four Flies Records, in collaboration with Bloodbuster Edizioni, is proud to present the complete soundtrack for the first time on vinyl (only the two songs of the movie were published before on a 7''-inch by RCA), featuring exclusive liner notes by the film's director, Sergio Martino.

Holy Grail Alert! This is absolutely the rarest, and probably the best Marc 4 album ever, pressed as a library on Ricordi label (LR 10) in 1970 with the title I Marc 4 Per Voi, but composed for the original soundtrykc of Debito Coniugale; a brilliant comedy directed by Franco Prosperi, and starring Barbara Bouchet and Lando Buzzanca.A truly amazing album, ranging from jazz to bossa nova, from funk to rhythm 'n' blues and psychedelic – all touched with the unique and distinctive sound of I Marc 4, the premier backing band of soloists in the panorama of Italian soundtracks and library music, here accompanied by the vocal work of Edda Dell’Orso as well as the choir, I Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni. An essential record that resonates with that distinctive Italian sound from beginning to end, and which pays tribute to the incredible work of our finestsession musicians and creators, rather than of simple executors of a rustproof groove that is not affected by the passage of time. Go South Italy! An absolute must-have for any serious soundtrack collector, and reissued here on vinyl for the very first time!

Presenting one of the greatest works by maestro Armando Trovajoli; a solid Italian easy listening masterpiece. After its commercial debut in 1968 as an original soundtrack of famous Italian TV-movie, this record gained renewed interest in the 1990s when four tracks were compiled in the immortal Easy Tempo series. From then on, La Famiglia Benvenuti has not only been considered of Trovajoli’s most sought after records, but has achieved the status of being the manifesto of the Roman swinging sixties - a lively addition to the delightfully cool sounds of the late 1960s, made possible by the following key ingredients: the Marc 4 sound (a steady presence for almost every Trovajoli recording); the outstanding I Cantor i Moderni di Alessandroni, with their unmistakable vocal harmonies; and lastly, the eccentric use of the harpsichord (a signature of Trovajol i ' s spaghetti soundtracks of the period). Behold a brilliant cocktail of groovy bossa, terrific shake, catchy tunes, and pop songs, as the amazing La Decisione, sung by Donatella Luttazzi, daughter of the great Lelio. An absolute must-have for any serious soundtrack collector, and reissued here on vinyl for the very first time!

A killer Italian Blaxploitation Sound, unreleased on vinyl fo far. Limited to 500 on 180g vinyl.Perhaps not everyone knows that Alessandro Alessandroni, the Master of Italian library music, had also composed several original soundtracks from late ’60s to early ‘80s, especially for many “genre” movies such as poliziotteschi, sexy comedies, spaghetti western, horror and thriller. Among them, Sangue di sbirro (Bloody Avenger), is certainly one of the most prestigious works made for Italian cinema in the 70s: an Italian noir set in Philadelphia, where the jazz-funk library’s background of the Maestro meets deep soul &black music. An obstinate rhythm which opens to jazz, funk and disco, with moments of pure easy listening (Tema di Susie is one of the best Alessandroni’s film themes). Sounds and arrangements typical of blaxploitation (including an original reinterpretation of Shaft’s theme) but with a proudly Italian’s touch. As always, many excellent soloists are playing here, including a young Enrico Pieranunzi on Fender Rhodes, Dino Piana on trombone and Silvano Chimenti on the electric guitar.

One of the rarest and most sought-after Italian holy grail soundtracks ever is finally back from the grave! Originally released in 1966 on Beat Records (45-BT 024), the KRIMINAL main theme was written by Romano Mussolini (Raymond Full in the opening credits) and Roberto Pregadio for this sleazy crime-pop movie directed by Umberto Lenzi, and based on the cult Italian comic hero. Actually, this could be considered one of the best swinging jazz-beat themes from the 60s, with its wonderful horn, acid vox continental organ, and terrific rhythmic guitar. On the B-side, we have another jewel from 1960s Italian spy-pop cinema: the main theme of “Il cobra” (from the Mario Sequi’s movie). This swinging and uptempo jazz-beat piece, written and conducted by the Spanish composer Antón García Abril, is a poisonous shake with a supergroovy mood – a double-sided floor-filler, not to be missed by any serious soul-jazz DJ.

For the B-side, we have chosen from this same score another killer groovy track which was already compiled on our Esterno Notte Volume 1 compilation. Gli italiani e l’industria is the soundtrack of amysterious TV documentary by Romolo Marcellini broadcasted in 1967, and neverappeared again from then, which was focused on virtue and vice of Italian post-economicboom industrialization. The music perfectly reflects the contrasts of the Italian society ofthat period, equally divided by consumerism and alienation, with a number of tracksdeliberately easy-jazz and pop-beat on the one hand (with gorgeous ballads forvibraphone, like Natascia or Negozi alla moda, and killer organ tracks, like Music Box, laterreused in some movies of the 70s, as Aragosta a colazione), and on the other with abounce of compositions ultra-jazz, close to free jazz, with electronics and avant-gardesolutions that Umiliani will explore completely in the further years (it is not by chance that 3of those tracks are also included nine years after in a new library Umiliani’s LP namedAtmospheres). An essential album of easy-listening and experimental sound, necessary tocomprehend the richness of a genius of Italian soundtracks.

A trip into unchartered Italian RCA film music vaults, including lots of unreleased gems from great Italian soundtrack Maestros such as Alessandro Alessandroni, Giuliano Sorgini, Piero Umiliani, Alberto Baldan Bembo, Giovanni Tommaso, and so on. As an uninterrupted flow of lost soundtracks from the most subversive and psychedelic age of Italian cinema, Esterno Notte evokes, above all, the night time cityscape settings of Italian movies of the 70’s (thriller, horror, erotic, comedy, noir, and action). It captures that spirit and its musical core with a captivating concentration of funk, jazz-funk, deep breaks, prog and psych – all capable of seducing even today’s dancefloors.180g vinyl. Limited to 500 copies.

On vinyl, here's the previously unissued score to a mid-'60s Italian spy movie parody. The brilliant, but somewhat overlooked soundtrack master Lallo Gori created an impressive scat-jazz and beat masterpiece featuring the stunning vocal group I Cantori Moderni Di Alessandroni and Gino Marinacci on flute. The sound is taken from the original tapes. Limited to 500 copies on 180-gram vinyl.
