Release:2017 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Bugsy hails from Milan where he is resident and co-host of the brilliant Take It Easy club night which brings many of the finest house DJ’s to the city and remains packed week in and week out. With his featured producers Astroloop at his side Bugsy has come up with a quality debut loaded with fat, low-slung deep beats and Detroit-inspired grooves for Freerange entitled the Svegsy EP.The lead track sets the mood with mid-tempo loping beats that have ‘Freerange’ written all over them. We can’t get enough of the simple yet satisfying warm-up vibe which oozes from this track. Understated, warm and relaxed yet with a bump and grunt which calls you to the dancefloor.A2 is a track entitled New Vision where we find a straighter groove underpinned by a restless, pulsing, analogue bass and shifting block chords. With it’s heads down attitude and simple, rolling arrangement this is Jimpster’s personal favourite for banging on a big system. Flip over for the aptly titled Ghost Song. Here we get off-kilter vocals and fleeting glimpses of a melody which then disappear into the ether. All in all a slightly surreal yet groove-heavy track which has a charm of it’s own.Rounding off the EP we have Chicago house legend Boo Williams on the remix of Ghost Song, where he takes a minimal approach with a hint of acid but keeping his soulful touch. Enjoy!

Hyenah, has, over the last few years helped forge strong ties between the deep house mecca of Johannesburg and the cutting edge electronic scene in Europe. With a handful of influential and pivotal releases and remixes on a few key labels (Objektivity, Drumpoet, Poker Flat, Toytonics) Hyenah has established himself as a major talent to follow. With his residency and label night Rise at Berlin institution Watergate going from strength to strength, a busy touring schedule taking in Ibiza, Angola, Asia and the U.S, we’re very pleased Hyenah still found time to get into the studio so we can present you with the next instalment; The Usuthu EP. Lead track Usuthu featuring the vocals of B’utiza opens the release in fine style with crisp, percussive beats laying the foundation for the precision synths and trademark Hyenah Afro vibes. Those who loved The Wish, Tale Of The Dirt and The Idea will love this worthy follow up! Next up is a second original entitled Phases featuring the hypnotic tones of Nonku, a much deeper affair but with no less energy and atmosphere. Just a more heads down groove for the warm ups and wind downs, Nonku’s wonderful vocal elements adding the perfect soulful touch. Flipping over we have a wonderful remix from the inimitable Mr Raoul K. The Ivory Coast native now residing in Berlin has continually wowed us here at Freerange with his Boabab and Mule Musiq releases. With his collaborative release alongside Manoo just about to drop on Innervisions (including a killer Dixon edit!), we’re excited to bring you an epic Mr Raoul K remix of title track Usuthu. Setting the mood with lush strings and a beautifully paced, beatless intro, Raoul K slowly introduces the beats and keyboard parts, layering up the elements and building the energy in the process, resulting in a very special, dynamic version that will connect on a deep level with all who experience it on the dance floor.

Massive remix package alert!! Whilst randomly flicking through his Itunes library Manuel Tur hit upon a selection of remixes that have been made of his music over the years and realized that, as well as many of them having gone criminally under the radar, many are absolutely solid gold and all of them deserve to be put together on one LP to showcase these beauties. The artists involved reads like a who’s who of underground house and techno with vintage names like Pepe Bradock, Ian Pooley and Isolée rubbing shoulders with young upstarts like Ugly Drums and Damiano von Erckert. For those who are already familiar with these remixes we wanted to make sure you had some brand new and exclusive music to get your teeth into so added three brilliant remixes of tracks from Manuel’s latest LP Es Cub to the package which is exactly what you have here on this sampler release. All three names need little by way of introduction, being Poker Flat honcho Steve Bug, Feel and One Track founder John Daly and Innervisions and Pets regular Aera. All three deliver their own unique take with their trademark quality and attention to the dancefloor all present and correct.

Time to welcome another newcomer to Freerange with a brilliant debut thathas already been gaining a lot of interest from early spins. StefanoRitteri should be a familiar name to many, having dropped several well-received releases on key labels such as Pets, Rockets & Ponies and GetPhysical as well as his own monthly Rinse France radio show. A producerin the old school sense, he has the ability and desire to flip from deep, emotive and down tempo jams to the most impactful, high energy floorfillers, all with a deft touch and unique and experimental spin. TheItalian producer, now relocated to London, has a studio chock full ofvintage synths and hardware outboard which keep him inspired and ensurehis output sounds fresher and fatter than most, as can be heard on thisexcellent two-tracker entitled A Different Happiness EP.The title track is a spaced out, percussion-heavy jam which takes aminimal approach but wins hearts and minds with an ear-worm of a melodythat gets gets you hooked in from the start. Snippets of spoken word addto the intense atmosphere making this one of those sure-fire, perennialtracks which can work in a variety of sets and still guaranteed to make animpact and stand out in the crowd.Flip over for Pocket Melody, another simple yet effective and inventivetrack which sees Stefano letting loose on his synths and coming up withsome warped Zawinul-inspired vibes in the process. The playful melodysnakes around in an improvised way whilst the dubby drums and classicanalogue machine beats ensure everyone stays locked into it’s hypnoticgroove.Definitely a producer to watch for us and we’re sure Stefano is on trackto continue making some amazing music. We hope you love this as much aswe do!

We hit you with the second single from Jimpster's acclaimedSilent Stars LP loaded with the good stuff! The album has received much love from DJ's and critics alike and it's clear that after 25 years in the business Jamie Odell retains his reputation as one of the most talented and consistent electronic artists in the UK. As A&R and DJ he also boasts a fine ear for emerging talent and here he hands over the reigns to two hotly tipped producers to rework his originals. First up we have the incredible Peggy Gou who takes on The Sun Comes Up ft. Jinadu. Her speedy rise through the ranks over the past 12 months has been down to just a handful of brilliant EP's on Rekids and Phonica and her skills as a club DJ. The Berlin based Korean sits somewhere between Detroit, London and Berlin in sound and her DJ sets are an assured, kinetic combination of dark, pulsing house and techno, broken beats and abstract compositions. Her influences shine through on her remix which goes deep and musical whilst retaining an energetic drive for the dancefloor. Perhaps the most mesmerizing, floor-focused track from the LP is up next; Silent Stars. An electronic tribal dance which builds to a speaker-wobbling sub-bass breakdown and wonderful chord section at the climax. Next, a remix from West Coast native Urulu who came to Jimpster's attention through his releases on Let's Play House, Dirt Crew and his own Amadeus label. Trying to describe his remix of Where You Areft. Khalil Anthony is no easy task, fusing elements of techno, broken beat and afro house, but check it out and if you can think of a suitable new sub genre to pigeonhole it with, let us know. Closing the release we have the slow-burning, balearic-tinged beauty known as The Sun Comes Up featuring Jinadu on vocals. This is one to drop in the warm after-glow of a crazy night under the stars when tired legs and happy hearts crave a soulful groove to give them one last lift.

A leading figure of the contemporary electronic world, Jamie Odell aka Jimpster sets his sights firmly back on the album format with this beautifully crafted long-player; Silent Stars. A self-confessed creature of the night, the Freerange Records and Delusions Of Grandeur boss taps into his nocturnal and escapist impulses to deliver a superbly executed modern-day fusion album. His seventh studio album and first since 2013’s highly-acclaimed Porchlight And Rocking Chairs, this is an album dedicated to the nocturnal hours. Silent Stars is a richly textured ride through the tapestry of house, from jazz-infused opener ‘Migrations’ through to the dense, orchestral euphoria of ‘Tau Tona’ and the minimal, percussive bounce of title track ‘Silent Stars’. The listener edges a touch closer to the dancefloor on tracks like ‘Yansa’ and ‘Power of the Doof’ - yet the grooves stay subtle with intricate percussion, dense sound design and a mischievous streak being palpable throughout.A range of guests are welcomed by Jimpster across Silent Stars. Hotly-tipped Londoner Florence Rawlings adds her vocals on ‘Crave’ and ‘Everytime’. Past collaborator and member of Kirk Degiorgio’s The Beauty Room, Jinadu weaves emotional soul on album centerpiece ‘The Sun Comes Up’. Khalil Anthony lends his vocals on ‘Where You Are’ and leading session drummer Andy Gangadeen (Massive Attack, Chase & Status, The Bays) lays down his immense beats on ‘Tau Tona’.Jimpster is a true veteran of the global house scene, a custodian of the authentic deep house sound and a producer who has quietly created some of the most reflective and sophisticated electronic music of the past two decades. 20 years on from his album debut, Jamie Odell continues to impress. The LP will be accompanied by two singles including remixes from Peggy Gou, Atjazz, Flabaire and Urulu.

Jimpster serves up the first single entitled Crave from ahead of his forthcoming Silent Stars LP complete with remixes from Atjazz and Flabaire. In its original form Crave, which features the vocals from hotly-tipped Londoner Florence Rawlings, is an emotionally charged electronic torch song guaranteed to get inside your head from the very first listen. The spacey chords and punctuating string stabs bring hints of the 80’s to mind whilst Florence’s gentle vocal floats in the air like a fresh sea breeze. In addition to the mesmerizing original we present two brilliant and contrasting remixes from one of the UK’s legendary producers Atjazz as well as Paris‘ rising star Flabaire whose D.KO Records has been dropping gem after gem since 2013. Atjazz spins Crave into outerspace with a fat, driving groove and twisted sonics making for an incredibly deep and forward-looking slice of aural gold. In contrast, Flabaire looks back to the early 00’s for his classic soulful house rework which calls to mind the sounds of Spinna and vintage Naked Music. Closing the release we have another original track entitled Where You Are featuring Berlin based US native Khalil Anthony. Here we find Jimpster doing what he does best, creating a sublime late night club track with his deft musical touch making this one that will stand out in the crowd.

inc. Eli Escobar RemixRed D is back for a follow up to his brilliant Chez EP which dropped last year and this time he’s going for the jugular! The man responsible for some of the finest house music of the last decade as FCL (with San Soda) and FCL vs VFB (with Motor City Drum Ensemble) knows a thing or two about what makes the dancefloor lose its s**t, with tracks such as Let’s Go Seven, It’s You and Can We Try all testament to this. When he’s not DJing at the likes of Panorama Bar or hosting his own stage at Tomorrowland, Red D can be found running his own mighty fine We Play House label from his Ghent HQ.Moan The Mania opens this release in suitably back to the raw fashion! A minimal drum machine groove and clipped bassline lay the foundations of this tribute to all things jacking with a sprinkling of porno groans to help you on your way. This is sleazy machine funk at it’s very best. Next up we have a remix from Eli Escobar, the native New Yorker who has recently been making major waves following the release of his LP Happiness on Classic. As someone who has remixed the likes of Lana Del Rey, Kim Ann Foxman, Honey Dijon and Holy Ghost we knew he’d be the man to take Red D’s baton and run with it.Keeping the overall vibe of the original intactEli cranks the energy further with additional in your face percussion parts and a couple of perfectly placed build ups. Flipping over we have Chase The Cat which takes a similarly stripped-back and minimal approach as Moan The Mania but goes heavier on the 707 beats. Finally we have Dusk Or Dawn closing the release with a deeper mood.Simple FM synth stabs and glassy chimes provide a tender and naive-sounding counterpoint to the basic beats.Red D proving once again that limiting your tools and not over-complicating things can often have so much more impact when it comes to house music.

incl. MOSCOMAN REMIXFreerange welcomes Italian via Berlin producer/DJ/label boss Enzo Elia for his debut on the label entitled The Lost Guitar Tapes. Enzo is someone who has been releasing consistently great music for many years, although often hidden behind a myriad of pseudonyms and underground imprints. For starters he’s responsible for a mysterious yet established and veryexcellent edits label as well as being a member of Balearic Gabba Sound System alongside Bjorn Torske amongst others. Following the philosophy of this collective, Enzo is also producing lovingly and respectfully createdre-edits of long lost techno and house tracks as well as many new tunes for influential labels including Golf Channel and Compost. But for now we turn to The Lost Guitar Tapes and specifically the original mix of Drifting which opens up the release with a brilliant tensionbuilder. A rolling bassline, crisp minimal drums and a subtly Middle Eastern-influenced melodic line give just a hint of mysticism to this jewel of a track. For the remix we have none other than the Tel Aviv via Berlin producer Moscoman, fresh from his brilliant debut LP on ESP Institute and releaseson Eskimo and his own Disco Halal label. Moscoman’s organic, percussion-heavy sound and Middle Eastern roots make him the perfect choice to takeon Drifting and we couldn’t have wished for a better outcome. He managesto inject his own identity to the track with newly recorded live guitar and bass parts and taking in elements of techno, new wave and house, he’screated a sublime piece of dancefloor drama. Finally we have an alternate Dub version which lays down a firmer four on the floor, extra percussion and dubby stabs for a more driving atmosphericclub tool.

DJ Aakmael is a producer we’ve been loving for many years and we’re proud to be presenting you with his Freerange debut. The US artist has had consistent releases dating back to 2004 and has graced the discographies of many a fine label including Uzuri, Earthrumental, Kolour Ltd, his own UnXpozd Entertainment and most recently the hotly tipped UK label Church. Here on his Daydreeming EP we’re treated to four original tracks of real house music produced by a true original of the underground. Kicking off we have Daydreeming with muscular beats laying the foundation for some widescreen orchestral strings and off-kilter and subtly deranged torchsong vocals. Rimbaudian steps up for the remix following what for us, is one of the tracks of 2016; Werka 8 from his Meda Fury release. The Swedish producer brings a very fresh approach with a loopy and hypnotic techno edge which draws you in with it’s repeating vocal and trippy sinewave melodies.Flipping over we have Basement 2 which drops the tempo slightly for a more heads down Detroit-inspired jam. A simple three note synth repeats throughout while moody pads bring the deep heat resulting in a track that you could get lost in for days. Beacot Road closes the EP in fine style with introspective filtered piano chords providing the magic on this simple, stripped back track, the whole thing sounding somehow blunted like it’s being beamed through a thick haze of ganja smoke. Enjoy, and please show your support for DJ Aakmael!

incl. Jacob Korn RemixesIntroducing Red D, the Belgian DJ and producer, one half of FCL (alongside San Soda), long standing club promoter (since 1992), owner of We Play House and general all round good guy. With releases on Ferrispark and Delusions Of Grandeur (with MCDE), remixes on Eskimo, regular sets at the likes of Panorama Bar and anRA Mix under his belt you could say things are falling into place nicely. On topof all this his FCL project continues to go from strength to strength with a new EP dropping soon on Kai ‘KZR’ Alce’s highly regarded NDATL label. When he sent over two originals for Freerange it was love at first listen as the simple, warm beats and emotive chord stabs of title track Chez oozed from thespeakers. This sounded to me like house music in it’s purest form, from the dayswhen the focus was on a feeling rather than complex sounds or technologicaltrickery. And the proof is in the pudding with this one as you can feel the dance floor go into some kind of collective bubble of love whenever you play it.The second original follows drawing you into a false sense of security withfamiliar 707 beats and gentle pads before taking a left turn. Appropriatelytitled Into Darkness the blissful vibes of the intro begin to fall away as thetrack reaches a breakdown and we’re treated to the rudest of Chi-Town basslines taking us down a somewhat less wholesome path.Flipping over we’re treated to two Jacob Korn remixes, one of each of theoriginals and if the A side is the good cop, we can trust the Uncanny Valleyregular to deliver some pure badness on the flip. His Remix of Chez is clearlyinspired by his studio hardware as you can hear the improvised and ‘live‘ sounding arrangement, the machines taking on a life of their own as things twist and turn in a spontaneous and unpredictable way. A rattling white noise pulse drives the rhythm whilst bubbling synths add some lightness to the pummelingkick.Into Darkness gets the Korn treatment next and here he puts it right through the sonic mangler, tape saturation distorting the mix to within an inch of it’s life. Jacob puts the focus on the bassline of the original, keeping things simple atfirst before winding in layers of Juno chords and the bleepiest of synth lines resulting in the finest of raw, bassment house jams.

incl. Edward RemixSeems like something’s going on across the pond at the moment with seemingly blossoming, or at least rejuvenated scenes in the United States and Canada. Our last handful of releases on Freerange have included artists from Montreal, Tujuana, Pittsburgh and Chicago and we’re about to add Los Angeles to the list with this new one from Justin Jay and Ulf Bonde. The young producers have been steadily building steam with a number of fine releases the last couple of years and we welcome them to Freerange for their debut EP entitled Indecision. The title track sets the mood with a low-slung, super-deep house groove complete with an intimate vocal and a charming simplicity which contributes to the powerful end result. Elements come into focus then disappear in a fog of reverbwhilst playful guitar picks add a live jammed feel to the loping groove givingthings a Bob Moses/Francis Harris kind of vibe.Next up is Justin’s own Dub version which steers a similar course but focuses on a more floor-friendly arrangement and minimal vocals.Flipping over we have Giegling and White regular Edward taking the reigns and working his magic on an incredible, epic remix of Indecision. Those who follow his every move as we do here at Freerange might have some idea of what to expect. The result is a glorious, almost ten minute long fusion of ambient, dub techno and deep, sub-aquatic house to lose your marbles to. It’s fairly pointless trying to describe the delicate twists, turns and subtle details that make up this piece, suffice to say, it’s the kind of track that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.Closing the digital release we have a bonus track in the form of I See You. Once again, Justin and Ulf have created a heady mix of delicate vocals, dubby atmospherics and a crisp beats which drive the groove along perfectly.

The duo hailing from Montreal andconsisting of Hollis P Monroe and Overnite have been responsible for someseriously influential tracks over the years, not least Hollis’ bonafideclassic from 1997 - I’m Lonely. For The Rest is a slice of sultry, stripped back house heaven which dripswith soul and will melt the hearts of all who hear it. The key to thetracks beauty is in the minimalism of the production keeping everythingpaired back to the bare bones and placing all the focus on Overnite’svocal which twists and mutates thanks to some clever use of FX.Who better to work their magic on the remix than German producer Show-Bwho comes fresh off his incredible Jaap Ligthart Remix and Washint EP onhis own Lossless label . Here he pushes the original through his sonicmangle, injecting steely atmospherics and layers of synths to forge adriving, muscular version which will sit perfectly amongst the sounds ofDixon, Mano et al and has already been getting early spins from Amé.A second remix from Carlos Sanchez completes the package (on the digitalversion) staying truer to the original vibe but adding delicate pads andwhispering strings for some late night bliss.

Eddy & Dus are long standing and highly respected Croatian DJ and production duo Eddy Ramich and Zvonimir Dusper. They’ve been responsible for many classic remixes on labels such as Compost, Especial and Schema but after a long hiatus we’re happy to say the boys are back, on their best form yet and now we can present to you the mighty A From B. In its original form A From B is some kind of mutant afro techno deep house jam that could probably only ever be conjured up in Zagreb. It’s almost as if all those incredible festivals that dominate the Croatian coastline every summer have spawned their own new genre of house music where tropical beats clash with classic techno and blunted jazz sits right alongside the deepest disco. A From B could be seen as something of a flag-bearer of this genre- bending antics, evoking images of packed dancefloors dancing under the starry skies in the warm night air. Or something. Who better to take on the remix than one of the masters of true deep and soulful house, Osunlade himself. Knowing a thing or two about delivering legendary DJ sets at Dalmation festivals his Yoruba Soul Remix drips with the kind of musicality and integrity that many can only aspire to. Finally we have a brilliant dub version of the original, going heavy on the beats, keeping things tribal and hypnotic for those heavier moments when all you want is to get locked into the groove.

2012 was an interesting year for Manuel Tur. Having released his second LP Swans Reflecting Elephants, the Spanish-German producer moved to his fathers birthplace in Ibiza to spend a year on the island where he felt a strong connection despite having never lived there. One year spent on Ibiza might not be that out of the ordinary for a music producer and DJ but when you take into account that he visited not one single club in that time choosing instead to spend his days and nights in the hills amongst fig and almond trees just reading, watching films and contemplating his future musical direction then things become more interesting. Manuel fondly named his small studio set up at his Dad's place Es Cub (The Cube) and it was here in this sanctuary away from the distraction of clubs and friends that he began to forge the tracks that we present on this LP. As Manuel describes, what started life as a collection of little finger exercises and sonic experiments soon grew into fully arranged club tracks. These were clearly influenced by the omnipresent house and techno that he could hear drifting from the nearby beach club which rose above the rustle of wind-swept trees and chirping cicadas whilst he sat on his terrace. If all this sounds like a bit of a Balearic cliche?, then so be it because Manuel is happy to admit to just how much the esoteric, cabalistic nature of Ibiza influenced him in the making of Es Cub.
