I, Ced has been something of a “best kept secret” among creators and aficionados of modern soul music. His wide array of skills ranges from production to vocals, keys, and studio mixing. His talents have found him in the company of many heralded contemporaries, including Jean Grae & Quelle Chris, Coultrain, Jimetta Rose, & Dam Funk. After having lent his talents to so many other luminaries in the underground music scene, Ced is now poised to make an impact with his own material, via his next project on Los Angeles-based MoFunk Records. As a label best known for synth-heavy west coast funk tunes, the partnership with I, Ced marks a daring expansion of the MoFunk sound.

I, Ced unites his distinctive “future soul” aesthetic with XL Middleton’s left side bump on the remix to “Percu,” first heard on Ced’s “What Are We Looking For?” album. It’s a stellar marriage of sharp synth bass, warm Moog-style leads and shimmering Rhodes chords with Ced’s hypnotic vocal chants and thickly-layered percussion sections, from which the track clearly derives its name. The remix is further heightened with an emotive vocal performance from fellow MoFunk artist Moniquea. As a bonus, the original version of “Percu” is included on the b-side, marking the first time any of the tracks from “What Are We Looking For?” have been pressed to wax.

With a limited run of 300 7”s this release is sure to move quickly, carrying broad appeal for followers of the modern funk movement or contemporary soul alike.

“A genius” - Nai Palm (Hiatus Kaiyote)
“One of the most incredible live performances I’ve seen” - Gilles Peterson (BBC)
“He's like a human centipede sewn out of all the greatest musicians from the past 80 years’” - Liam Pieper

Emerging from Brisbane’s music-art bohemian West End in 2008, self-taught, prodigious musician Lachlan Mitchell aka Laneous, began his eclectic and colourful journey in music as the leading member of funk band KAFKA, stamping his trademark falsetto croon on an Australian music landscape that wasn’t quite ready for an artist whose standout influence was D’Angelo’s ‘Voodoo’. Word of their talent soon reached UK’s perennial tastemaker Gilles Peterson who featured the band on his compilation, Brownswood Bubblers Four alongside other breakthrough acts at the time, Mayer Hawthorne, Floating Points and Lone. A world-class guitarist, vocalist, composer, visual artist and – significantly - muse, Mitchell’s unique ability to shine, create and inspire across genres was his obvious forte, even then. Regularly sought after to provide features for other bands and cover art for Hiatus Kaiyote albums Tawk Tomahawk and Choose Your Weapon, he worked diligently to support his community. But while Hiatus’ Nai Palm told media Laneous was “a genius” he often credited music and drawings to pseudonyms.

In 2016, after 8 years of humbly dominating the Australian underground art, soul and jazz scene [with ‘mutant-soul/croon punk’ cult group Laneous & The Family Yah, reggae band Kooii and improv-jazz-beat trio, Vulture Street Tape Gang] Mitchell relocated to Melbourne - a move that would instigate and inspire the long-awaited debut solo LANEOUS record that fans and peers had been craving for nearly a decade. Excited to create new music with an artist they’d previously referenced as an inspiration, Paul Bender and Simon Mavin (Hiatus Kaiyote) came on board swiftly, joined by Hudson Whitlock (Cactus Channel) on drums and Donny Stewart (Jazz Party) on vibraphone and flugelhorn - a key element in bringing Mitchell’s vision of an exotica/soul infused album to life. In classic Laneous fashion, the musical references for the record run deep, winding through an eclectic array of artists from Martin Denny, Burt Bacharach and The Beach Boys to Shuggie Otis, Wild Cookie and Wu-Tang.

The debut single Modern Romance was unleashed in October 2018 with a kinky, captivating visual accompaniment that marked the return of the Laneous legacy. After selling out the Melbourne launch of the single, the band was invited to headline Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM x Northside Records live Melbourne broadcast, teasing exclusive album cuts and drawing high praise from Peterson, stating it was “..one of the most incredible live performances I’ve seen’.

Out May 10 via Soul Has No Tempo, Mitchell’s MONSTERA DELICIOSA stands as a sublime genre work, peerless in Australia - his magnum opus bears the name that’s backed him from day one:

LANEOUS.

Rudy Ray Moore was a storyteller extraordinaire, a hilarious, low-down dirty man, and a legit trailblazer in the world of no-holds-barred, fuck-the-censors comedy.

This classic, live Christmas album shows Moore in the 1970s form that cemented his late-night legacy. Side 1 is for early evening listening, when family and respectable friends might still be around. (The dirty stuff is for the flip.) The song "Merry Christmas, Baby" starts things off - a slow, dusty blues number bolstered by a wobbly but upright backing band. The song itself is PG, extolling the virtues of a caring partner and the joy of the season. Truth be told, it's a warm and wonderful holiday song.

With the band gently strolling behind him, he then lays into Christmas tales from childhood up through modern day trials, tribulations and hilarities. "I can remember when me and my brother were six years old," he says. "We hung our stockings up on the mantelpiece, and the health department made us take them down." Good old fashioned family fun.

But with the man also known Dolemite, the "down and dirty" is never far away. Side 2 is where things get good (and X-rated), for the late night listening pleasure. It all starts with Rudy retelling "The Night Before Christmas" - with his grooving backing band - in his trademark raunchy style, complete with mice and rats getting it on. Also included on this side is a psychedelic blues number, detailing Brother Rap's visit to heaven (to get dirty, of course). And it all finishes up with a thematically appropriate Christmas themed tale, with the term m*therf*cker used in potentially record breaking numbers.

It's what you'd expect from the legendary, foul-mouthed, groundbreaking comedy legend. A perfect way to keep the Holidays from becoming too much of a Hallmark moment

You might think that a certain bad-hair-having, shit-talking presidential candidate is obnoxious, but there’s one man who would definitely be more dangerous in the White House: Dolemite. Traffic Entertainment Group is proud to reissue this hilarious and downright filthy album to celebrate the mud-slinging we’ll all beexperiencing this fall. And, of course, to remind the world of Rudy Ray Moore’s unique comedic genius. Originally released in 1972 in the middle of the disaster now known as the Nixon Years, the album is filled to the brim with Moore’s bawdy but debatably insightful takes on politics, sex and American society, funneled through the lens of his most famous persona, Dolemite. As it warns on the cover: “Rated XXX: For Adults Only.” And they aren’t kidding. The album’s lengthy first cut, “Campaign Speech,” is worth the price of admission alone. Ranting for ten minutes straight, Moore lets it all hang out, with every bit of profanity he can muster. It’s certainly interesting to hear some of his words more than four decades later. “I’m not promising you a chicken in every pot,” he bellows, in his trademark raspy scowl. “I’m not promising you a God-damn thing. If I am elected, I promise to legalize prostitution, marijuana, stealing, and every other motherfuckin’ thing you want to do.” Making fun of Nixon, George McGovern and Spiro Agnew, he continues, “We’re still waiting for that 40 acres and that motherfucking mule.” Towards the end, he brings forth a metaphor that, interestingly, would come true in the year of Moore’s passing, 2008: “The next thing I’ma do, I’m gonna move on my first act. I’m gonna get me 2,000 raggedy-ass painters, and paint the motherfucking White House black!” The rest of the album’s 13 songs are equally loud, offensive, funny and even – when the audience isn’t expecting it – serious. With a live soul group grooving behind him and a live audience yelling support along the way, he gives his fans what they want on cuts like “Dance Of The Freaks,” “Long Island Duck,” “Farting Contest” and “Chester & Mr. Dillon.”Released on black vinyl with its eye-catching original front and back artwork, it’s a great way to relive the comedic bravery and brashness of a truly unique man, Rudy Ray Moore.

Another raucous and raw comedy album from Rudy Ray Moore's vast crazy catalog! He's got some nasty ass shit to talk and you will thrill with the exploits of Dangerous Dan, Lolita (who likes mucho peetah) and even Romeo & Juliet (!). Don't be ashamed if you find yourself repeating these bits to friends as there's plenty here to laugh at. This album is over 40 years old and a testament to the power and shock of Moore's material. If you need to catch your breath, Moore gives you a break by the album's end as he reworks one of his old vocal tracks with... well... some pretty nasty lyrics. What did you expect? This is a Rudy Ray Moore album!

- Mark Jason Murray, Biographer

Rudy Ray continued to cut his comedy party records, rappin' out his street rhymes with a little music behind. The room was packed with guys and gals, friends and partiers from the neighborhood. Dudes, pimps, gangsters, players, winos, and just plain Bad Ass Kids! And this album is breakout time! I Can't Believe I Ate the Whole Thing blew the doors open, set the trend, the one that a decade later in 1986 launched 2 Live Crew when they sampled Rudy Ray Moore on hit singles "Throw That D" and "Get it Girl" from their debut album The 2 Live Crew Is What We Are. Through word of mouth and pure outrageousness the 2 Live Crew album sold over half a million copies.

And it didn't stop there!! Rudy Ray was now deep in the Hip Hop mix. 2 Live Crew's "Movin' Something" audaciously sampled "Romeo and Juliet," Rudy Ray's nasty duet with Lady Reed, aka Queen Bee from the Dolemite movies and one of Rudy's early label signings back in the day. Ice Cube with Funk Master George Clinton throws out in "Bop Gun" a Rudy Ray Moore line from on this very album, "No One Knows Where the Nose Goes." Big Daddy Kane loves the track "Dangerous Dan."

I Can't Believe I Ate the Whole Thing is the album that sets the tone for the Hardcore Hip Hop scene. Here you can hear where Dr. Dre, N.W.A. Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, and Ice T got their stuff. Also where comedian Robin Harris took Rudy's joke "Piccolo Player" and made it one of his own laugh line bits. All of it jumped off
this album and swayed a generation. Straight off the street from shooting dice, playin' the horses in a bookie joint, and cruising in a lowrider car to smoking weed and late night listening when the kids are all asleep. Yeah, right!

As Rudy Ray Moore said, "Rappin' and cappin' is my game. And all those young men are rappin' good! BUT, when it comes down to rappin', I was through with it before they even learned what to do with it!!"

The Colorful World of Arp Frique is the exotic and super funky debut album of Niels Nieuborg. After his surprising, very well received debut release on Rush Hour, Arp Frique continues collaborating with Orlando Julius, Ed Motta, Americo Brito, Ronald Snijders and more! Tip!
Pulsating NYC style live disco vibes, interwoven with both Caribbean and Cape Verdean sounds, are themes throughout the record with danceability always guaranteed and a healthy finishing touch of weirdness present across most tracks. First single ‘Nos Magia’ was shortlisted for Track of the Year 2017 at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards and has been given airplay by BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 1 and NTS whilst club DJs Antal and Hunee have all supported the track in their sets.
The Arp Frique alter ego is a reference of course to two things Nieuborg clearly appreciates in music: firstly the sound of the Arp synths and secondly, by referring to Chic’s ‘Le Freak’, he is also showing love to the genre of disco. Be sure to know however, that you are not listening to edits of seventies jams. Arp Frique’s music may sound vintage and authentic at times but all tunes are original and made with live instruments. Mind you though, that all compositions are the product of the “insatiable creative urge” of just one man.
As part of a wholly different career,
Nieuborg once owned a venue and programmed various venues and festivals, like his latest succes; 'Festival Magia' With that knowledge in the back of your mind, the impressive cast on the album - which follows on 2017’s ‘Nos Magia’ EP (Rush Hour) - seems logical. Nevertheless, the status level of the contributors is astonishing. There’s a Cape Verdean funana song featuring legend Americo Brito on vocals, an infectious Brazilian disco funk hit-to-be with Ed Motta, two tracks with Surinam’s famous Ronald Snijders on flute, three collaborations with afro-beat don Orlando Julius and so much more… immerse yourself!

Produced and arranged by Marvin Augustus this early outing from The Plainwrap Band lay dusty on a reel that somehow had become in the hands of Producer Stu Gardner. The reels were transfered and we liked what we heard.
We took the time to find Marvin who had forgot about the reel he cut in 1976 around 5 years prior to their first release "The Ghetto Bird". And to its whereabouts.
For this early recording some of the best West Coast musicians were drafted in for "Baby dont leave me here"/"How does it feel".

Over the past twenty years, when musicians and producers in Southern California have needed fresh R&B, funk, or hip hop beats, they’ve called on drummer Jake Najor. A former bandmember of Breakestra, Incredible Moses Leroy, and The Styletones, Najor has performed or recorded with scores of noteworthy artists, including TV on the Radio, Raphael Saadiq, Kelis, Joss Stone, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul, Karl Denson, Rodriguez, and Empire of the Sun.

When not on tour, the San Diego native performs with a wide network of local musicians, including as a member of the house band for The Redwoods record label. It’s with the Redwoods that the veteran drummer has taken the lead on a new project, Jake Najor and the Moment of Truth. While most of Najor’s career has been spent contributing percussion in service to the visions of his collaborators, with his debut record, In the Cut, Najor has been the one enlisting players from his musical cohort as well as some cherry-picked, heavy hitters on the LA funk/soul scene to flesh out ten tracks of original grooves, ranging from soulful cinematic instrumentals to hard hitting funk jams.

The album’s lead single, High Costa Living, lands in the latter camp. It features an accomplished roster of west coast funk players, including a potent brass section led by trumpeter/arranger Todd Simon (Antibalas, Ziggy Marley, Quantic), and including James King (Fitz and Tantrums), Elizabeth Lea (Tedeschi Trucks Band), and Sam Robles (Jungle Fire), behind the gritty vocals of MixMaster Wolf (Breakestra). High Costa Living sets the tone for a record loaded with dynamic performances to match the syncopated rhythms laid down by So Cal’s go-to beatmaker. Jake Najor and the Moment of Truth “In The Cut” brought to you by The Redwoods record label, drops March 29, 2019.

Few would challenge the claim that the 1960s and 70s have been the most fertile two decades in the history of popular music ever - a period which, regardless of genre, laid the foundations for everything that has followed. What is more, this period was so fertile that the speed with which tastes changed left a colossal amount of incredible music to gather dust - perhaps most famously a profusion of funk, soul and jazz. It was a musical legacy that lay mouldering until the rise of sampling in late 80s hip-hop precipitated a mad scramble for lost crates and suddenly, the music that became known as 'rare groove' - for obvious reasons (it was rare and very groovy) - experienced a phoenix-like rebirth.

A quarter of a century on and a million funk, soul, jazz-funk and 'rare groove' compilations, re-presses and re-releases later, you'd think that cupboard was bare and yet, even now, there are gems to be found. The people behind Tramp Records specialise in tracking down and re-releasing the rarest of cuts that often were originally only limited runs or private pressings and new compilation Down & Wired is just such a collection.

Always soulful, this features everything from mod groovers and northern stompers, to funky bumps and latin heaters. Yet while the quality of all cuts is immediately apparent, only one of the fifteen has ever been previously been compiled because when Tramp 'do' rare, they don't mess around. In fact, if these tracks were steaks - they'd still be walking around eating grass.

this project is about ‘breathe’.

‘Airway’, the title of the album, has many meanings, but, the biggest thing is the way to breathe.
The insight of it that comes from the ‘Tao’ which is both a mind and a philosophy from Eastern Asia, was contained in each of five tracks with the lyrics and melodies.
I tried to soften these ideas at the crossroads of balearic, funk, and house.

The second Foreign Exchange album reverses the rapping/singing split of the first. Not only is Leave It All Behind much more an R&B album than 2004's Connected -- it's more an R&B album than a lot of modern releases filed in that section, given that Phonte slips into MC mode only twice while otherwise putting his sensitive singing voice to full use. Even more nuanced and textured, and therefore more musical than Connected, Leave It All Behind is a concise and complete set of songs that brings out the best of both producer Nicolay and Phonte. More than ever, Nicolay's mellow but moving productions have that lingering, memory-triggering effect mastered by the late J Dilla, and a multitude of shades is cast: dreamy folk-soul that ranks with the Beauty Room and latter-day 4hero, lean and contemporary constructions that would fit within any adult-oriented R&B station's playlist, deceptively frictional backdrops that bridge hip-hop to West London broken beat, and even the intermittent unclassifiable moment, with several styles thrown into swirls of crescendo-enhanced dramatics. Joined by Connected accomplices Darien Brockington and YahZarah (her lead turn on "If She Breaks Your Heart" sounds even more like a lost Stevie/Minnie collaboration than the Jungle Fever soundtrack original), as well as Muhsinah (an earthbound Georgia Anne Muldrow), Phonte does not deliver knockouts, yet he is not out of his depth and never reaches beyond his grasp, exuding warmth and sincerity as effectively as anyone praised for inhuman range. Even when his lyrics deal in the less complicated aspects of relationships, his voice provides a gently bittersweet tint, as a man with his guard down whose articulations are neither reactionary nor based on some false posture. And with love as its core rather than impulsive lust, as well as its unified feel, Leave It All Behind is not just a unique and exceptional R&B album but also a soundtrack or means of communication -- when heat-of-the-moment resentment, a lump in the throat, or anxious longing get in the way -- for a real-life adult relationship.

Australian Soul Jazz holy grail from 1968! Limited to 300 copies w/wide. Debut release on Pacific Theatre Encore, the reissue label started by Melbourne's contemporary funk / soul lynchpin Australian Lance Ferguson (The Bamboos, Menagerie, Lanu, ex Cookin' On 3 Burners). Two high energy Mod burners, both originals taken from the forthcoming album 'Whatever It's Worth'.
Lead by Australia's own rival to Jimmy Smith and Jimmy Witherspoon, the '68 line up of Col Nolan & The Soul Syndicate would prove to be an Australian jazz super-group, consisting of John Sangster on drums / percussion (whose own late '60s Festival albums are highly collectable), John Allan on bass, Col Loughnan on sax and Jimmy Doyle on guitar (the latter two were also in mid Oz '70s jazz-rock giants, Ayers Rock).
"Pacific Theatre Encore will be reissuing music from across the globe, but it was important to me for the first release to shine a light on the important legacy of our own scene" says Ferguson, who meticulously restored the audio himself, which was then remastered.

If Redd Foxx was the king of the party record during the 50s and 60s, then certainly Rudy Ray Moore upped the ante during the 70s with a succession of triple-X-rated platters that were so hot most stores could only sell them under the counter, even during the height of the sexual revolution. His best routines, usually spoken in rhyme, presaged the Rap revolution in music by years, while his acting roles, which include starring in "Dolemite", its sequel "The Human Tornado" and "Petey Wheatstraw", remain as some of the greatest blaxploitation movies of all time. Among his comedy releases were "Eat Out More Often", "The Player - The Hustler", and now finally available for the first time on CD, "Dolemite Is Another Crazy Nigger". Rudy Ray Moore, the world's first comedian to take a bold approach at comedy using the many expressions of the ghetto in great monologues, thus making these expressions a form of art, sadly died of complications from diabetes on October 19, 2008. He will surely be missed

James Shaw (aka The Mighty Hannibal aka King Hannibal) was an American R&B, soul and funk singer, songwriter and record producer known for his showmanship and outlandish costumes. Several of his songs often carried deeper social or political themes. His biggest hit was 'Hymn No. 5,' a commentary on the effects of the Vietnam War on servicemen, which was banned on radio.

Shaw was raised in the Vine City neighborhood of Atlanta where he started singing doo-wop as a teenager, and in 1954 he joined his first group, The Overalls. In 1958 Shaw moved to Los Angeles where, under the name of Jimmy Shaw, he recorded several solo singles. At this point he also adopted the name 'Hannibal' and in 1962 he joined King Records, who released four further singles. Between 1962 and 1965 Hannibal also worked as a pimp in Los Angeles, a lifestyle that saw him dropped by King Records.

In 1966 (and back in Atlanta) Hannibal adopted a more socially conscious stance and wrote 'Hymn No. 5' which became his best-known recording, reaching No. 21 on the Billboard R&B chart. The success the track brought however fueled a growing heroin addiction, and Hannibal spent eighteen months in prison for failing to pay a tax bill. Released from jail (and free of drugs), he restarted his recording career in the early 1970s when he issued a number of singles and the album Truth, (1973) on the Aware label.

Trying to find a new direction in the late 1970s, Hannibal was employed on the staff as a record producer at Venture Records, before working on the Atlanta Voice newspaper and even taking up acting roles. in 2001 Norton Records released Hannibalism, a compilation album of songs written between 1958 and 1973. The cult film, Velvet Goldmine, also included fragments of his work and in 2009 he was the subject of a documentary film (Showtime!). Hannibal lost his eyesight in 2002 but still continued to perform live, and even enjoyed a seventieth birthday celebration on stage in 2009. The following year he contributed on Elton John and Leon Russell's album The Union. Hannibal passed away in 2014, at the age of 74.

Hannibal’s larger-than-life performance aesthetic, combined with his willingness to address social issues in many of his songs, make him an important figure in the history of soul and funk, and a legacy worth examining.

Today we present to you the first (official) vinyl reissue of King Hannibal’s 1973 masterpiece Truth. Expect mad funky soul classics and intense dirty tracks backed by energetic musicians from the likes of Lee Moses, George McCurn (The Staple Singers) & Herman Hitson (Jimi Hendrix). At times the tunes on ‘Truth’ drift into a mellower southern type of soul and at other times the raw, fuzzy & gritty funky guitars make it a full-on funk-rock type of album more indebted to Funkadelic. Even on the slower tracks the psych-fuzz guitar from Lee Moses washes over everything, leaving a delightfully hazy gauze perched atop the simmering rhythms. The groove on ‘truth’ grabs you from the first note to the last.

Remastered from the original master tapes by Ginn Music Group-Aware Records, this reissue is now available as a deluxe 180g vinyl edition (limited to 500 copies).

Throughout the 1970s, Rudy Ray Moore made his name as one of the most uniquely explicit, anti-establishment underground comedians working. With his profane, controversial material, and frequently taboo stories surrounding his famed pimp character Dolemite, Moore commanded a cult-fanbase throughout the decade, remained a star of blaxploitation films of the era, and was a strong influence on rap stars such as Snoop Dogg, Big Daddy Kane, and 2 Live Crew. His party records were considered too vulgar to be displayed in record shops, but word of mouth made his albums the stuff of legends.

Though Rudy Ray Moore was widely known for his provocative stand-up, less is known about his musical side. Though he found success as a comedian he had always wanted to be a famous singer, and deeply loved to perform music. (His stand-up shows regularly featured a backing band, providing his monologues a backdrop of jazz and R&B music.) In 1972, as his comedy career was booming with cult-popularity, Moore released The Turning Point, and fans were treated to the raunchy raconteur's previously unheard croon. The album features smooth R&B renditions of songs by Curtis Mayfield, The Impressions, The Platters, and other favorites of the comedian, even featuring two originals written by Moore himself.

The music on The Turning Point could easily stand toe-to-toe with the smooth, silky 70s soul of greats like Isaac Hayes or Lou Rawls. Over 35 years later, Dolemite Records, with a dedication to bringing Rudy Ray Moore's legacy to a modern audience, now brings you this compact disc reissue, complete with retrospective liner notes from Rudy's former manager Donald Randell.

In the early 1970's, Rudy Ray Moore was pushing out 'raw' comedy albums just as quick as the
public would buy them. Thanks to the sexual revolution started in the 1960's, the public was becoming less ashamed and more interested in their own sexuality. Masters and Johnson had concluded extensive research into the sexuality field and delivered groundbreaking books on the subject. If those seemed heavy handed for the average person, 1969's 'The Sensuous Woman' (written by 'J') and 1971's 'The Sensuous Man' (written by 'M') were more palatable for readers and became massive paperback sellers. A companion album to 'The Sensuous
Woman' was also released as 'J' described how and what turns her on.

Then along comes 'The Prince' (aka Rudy Ray Moore) who pulls no punches and wants to tell the Brothers out there just where it's at. 'The Prince' throws aside the 'high class and falootin' gynecological terms and tells it like it is. The first half of the album features Moore describing and instructing various sexual techniques and practices in such great detail the devil would blush! For its second half, Moore answers questions from his 'audience' and cracks some nasty jokes.

I dare you to try to master all the techniques on this album and remember to "shake your ass and stroke!"

Soul4Real’s third release brings us two previously unreleased gems from Norfolk Va. group The Anglos. Both sides were produced by the legendary Jerry “Swamp Dogg” Williams and where recorded at 919 Sound Studios in Philadelphia.

The Anglos are regarded as one of Norfolk’s best singing groups of the era. They are featured on Francois & The Anglos 1963 recording for Romulus, but more significantly are remembered for “Incense“, a record which became an early mod favourite in the UK. In 1967 The Anglos recorded the northern soul classic “Since You’ve Been Gone” for Shiptown (nationally issued on Scepter).

The two recordings featured here were recorded in the late 60s and were destined for the short lived Botanic label. “Broke Down Piece Of Man” it´s an earthy rendition of the Sam & Dave song (from their “Soul Men” LP) taken at a slightly faster tempo than the original, whilst “Four Walls Of Gloom” takes the groove down to a more relaxed midtempo pace on another very soulful song.

Two excellent sides, that have languished in the vaults for far too long, I am sure you will agree!

Over the last five years and as many volumes of their “Beach Diggin’” compilations, Guts and Mambo have explored the reefs of five continents, dredged the sea beds of countless seas and oceans, examined every single seashell with the aim of making sure that no vinyl pearl should escape their notice.

Tunisian reggae, Japanese disco, West Indian jazz-funk, the duo’s aesthetic dribbling skills would stop the savviest Brazilian football player dead in his tracks, and it was with this in mind, that they proceeded to select their discoveries. With a marked preference for meditative free-diving rather than tour package scuba diving, and isolated spots rather than massively overdeveloped beach fronts.

For this latest installment of their adventures, Guts and Mambo have organized another expedition around the world, to salute the spots where for the last five years they have uncovered rare specimens, saving some of them from total extinction, while shining a light on others that amply deserved it.

Though each “Beach Diggin’” compilation can be listened to independently of the others, the five together now form a kind of navigational chart signaling with its green flags the places where, in Africa, Europe, Asia, America, and the South Pacific, they gamboled on sandy beaches, avoiding the well-trodden path, becoming more and more demanding with each passing year. Beach diggin’ is a state of mind...

The concept behind ‘Cowboys & Africans’ is that all humans originate from Africa (at one point in history) so as laymen, we are all ‘Africans’. The ‘Cowboys’ reference is to the people in positions of power, who take advantage of the everyday person (or those they have power over). The songs challenge how we see ourselves in today’s society. The message is quite simple – be proud of who you are, your friends, family and fellow humans. Stand up for what you believe in and have the con dence not to be bullied by peer pressure or general opinion

The first single from Forty Five = "Move A Mountain” featuring the soulful vocals of New Zealander Louis Baker, heavy on the drums, dripping with soul & heavy on the funk "Bryan Munich Theme" - sounds like an incendiary lost ’70s library record; the perfect psych funk-flecked walk on music for a team of doughty outsiders destined to lift the cup.

Garage & soul screamer Barrence Whitfield channels the Saturnian ruler of the omniverse with a soul-tripping exploration of Sun Ra favorites—from the explosive “Nuclear War” to the shimmering exotica of “Love In Outer Space” to the Funkadelicized "Everything Is Space."

Since the 70s, lucky concert goers have witnessed the adrenaline mainlined madness that is a Barrence Whitfield performance. That brand of madness has been captured on hundreds of feet of magnetic tape and mutated into this studio recording over 25 years in the making–which somehow manages to be at times mellow, and at others completely explosive.

Barrence Whitfield has channeled the late Sun Ra and delivers what we can best assume Sun Ra would sound like if he had amphetamines kicking up his synaptic dopamine and norepinephrine concentrations in his striatum!

The sheer musical drive inside you to lay down those raw and emotional feelings.
The chances of going to high end studios were slim and expensive. Opportunities were sparse to say the least.
So the next best thing was to go into one of the ever growing number of home studios that were popping up in the 1980's
Studios in peoples garages or in the spare bedroom.
And so we bring you to a small group of teenagers called Klimate.
They ventured into a un-named 8 track studio in Walsall around 1981 to record a series of 2 tracks.
There is little remembered about the group of lads from member Harbans Srih who played drums on both tracks and was in charge of writing duties. Harbans Srih was also the man behind sde 42 Sticks & Co "Jazz Dancin"/"Jazz funkin" .
The 5 piece band was very multicultural that really represented music in britain at the time. 3 of the players were of Afro-Caribbean decent giving us lead vocals, guitar, bass and keyboard. The 4th member was only known as a ginger haired youth (we like him!!) who was on saxophone duities.
shortly after these recordings tragedy struck Klimate and the bass player was killed in a car accident whilst on vacation in Italy.
fast forward 37 years and Harbans Srih discovers just a single D.A.T from that 1981 session.
We did our utmost to sonically get the recordings up to our very high standards at Super Disco Edits. Whilst we feel it perhaps just falls short, we couldn't ignore these recordings that optimises British youth culture and the heritage of Brit funk .
We hope you enjoy them.

The Jackson 5 were still going under that moniker when their first world tour was beginning in March 1973. It took the best part of three years to complete, culminating in their legendary Mexico City Performance in December 1975, broadcast across local and international television at the time, and undertaken around the era that the boys signed to Epic after many years with Motown. Their change of label had also prompted the shortening of the brothers’ collective name, and Jermaine quite the group concurrently, hoping to progress with Motown under his solo career; his place was taken by the younger Randy Jackson, who featured at this concert – one of his first as an official band member – keeping the numbers up to quintet levels. The show itself was a truly dynamic affair as can now be heard on this original broadcast recording, featuring a fine selection of Jackson (and solo-Michael) classics, alongside newer tracks still to receive a studio release on upcoming records.

A while back Pratt & Moody hit the global soul scene with their Stylart debut 7" "Lost Lost Lost", leaving many exclaiming the words "FIRME ROLA" on its tracks. Some even mistook it for a forgotten oldie. Now this vocal/guitar duo gets together with Cold Diamond & Mink for another dose of grade A soul music.

Not breaking the spell of tautology started with the first 45, "Words Words Words" picks up the tempo from ballad territory into the beat heavy group soul category. The pulsing drum track is laced with majestic horn riffs, tremolo guitar, penny arcade organ, and over everything hover the beautiful lyrics by Pratt and his mysterious harmony singers.

If the first single by Pratt and Moody left you yearning for more soul, this one should blow away the rest of your corporal existence.

"A dream turned into reality is my encounter with Sir Cunnie Williams long after his first album “Coming From The Heart of the Ghetto” in the early nineties changed my angle on Soul Music forever. “Do I Have To” and “What Is Black Music” shoved new musical landscapes to my young ears, until then badly addicted to just Northern Soul. Fast forward almost 30 years, can you guys imagine gettin inboxed by Cunnie himself saying he wrote a song for us to arrange. A dream comin true, all of a sudden, plain and simple. Now living in Compton, Cunnie Williams comes straight outta SOUTH CENTRAL L.A. the hood put to iron and fire during the famous riots of the early 90s where he was born in 1963, middle child among several brothers and sisters who played RnB and Funk themselves. His mom played piano, the family was surrounded by the sounds of his fathers blues and jazz records and Cunnie grew up listening to many types of music, his favorite being Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Maurice White from Earth Wind And Fire and Bill Withers. Although there was a call for his soul to be free he chose a basketball career which took him to Europe where he played for Greece and Germany but was always writing as he experienced his journey. He also went to a friend's studio in Germany to make songs until one day it reached the ear of Chocolate City Productions’ Ralf Droesemeyer who produced “Do I Have To”, a song about the above riots in los Angeles, which eventually led to Cunnie's first album “Coming From The Heart of The Ghetto”. The album that shaped my tastes for the following years and probably made me go beyond the Top 500 (which at the time were TOP 200 or so). Here I offer you our best production ever, believe it or not. Written, arranged and produced in the 2019 a.c. “Stop Breakin My Heart” hit the whole Cannonball RecordsTeam deep inside and pushed us to deliver something we never delivered before. Listen and judge by yourselves" - Alberto Folpower

The second album from SpaceArk. More brilliant self-released, private-press jazz/soul from 1976 Los Angeles. ‘SpaceArk Is’ came out on Color World records in 1976, on a limited run of about 5,000 copies. It followed their self-titled debut (also available now on Mr Bongo) on the same original label, the year before.
For a handful of years in the Seventies, SpaceArk was one of the most promising and electrifying bands in Southern California. Although their music was far greater than the sum of its parts, those parts made for a very original style. R&b, soul, rock, pop, jazz, classical … it all came together in blissful stream of intricate compositions that swept up crowds from US military bases to Northern Soul clubs around the UK.
SpaceArk wrote and performed more than 100 songs during their time together. Most of them were not recorded and are now either lost or forgotten.

Basic Rhythm follows up his album 'On The Threshold' with an EP that lays out the explicit connections between hardcore and footwork. A connection made even clearer by the inclusion of a rare remix by Chicago footwork originator RP Boo. 2 Da Core's punchy rolling drums are levelled up against rough samples and a vocal hook pitched up and down in classic hardcore style. Get Up runs a tubby bass under hazy vocal samples and weird sound effects. RP Boo's remix of 2 Da Core disassembles the track into pieces, building a stalking helicopter-like rhythm which plays hide and seek with the samples, while the closing track Nuh Ramp rounds off the EP with tumbling micro-edited rhythms and a melody built from small colourful sounds that draw on the Caribbean roots of this music.

The debut LP of the band was released on Flamophone in 1969. It shows our friends delivering a very cool pop sound which pays tributes to the more McCartney-esque side of the Beatles, but mixtured in a very personal way with the pop/psych/prog air of its era. Saving the distance, since Le Système Crapoutchik have a unique sound of their own that makes it hard to compare to anything else - and even not having such a baroque production - this LP could be the French equivalent to Billy Nichols "Would You Believe". First time ever reissued on vinyl, from the original master tapes and reproducing the original gatefold cover, plus an insert with liner notes by Jean-Emmanuel Dubois & Marc Argenter In a limited edition of only 500 copies.

Despite never achieving major mainstream success in his career, the scope of influence from cult comedian Rudy Ray Moore is palpable and far-reaching. A consummate performer and raconteur, Moore's comedy emphasized raw and explicit story-telling and wisecracking, often told in rhyme, and featuring a backing band; a style of performance that inadvertedly set a blueprint for early hip-hop music. Following in the footsteps of comic legends Redd Foxx and Moms Mabley, his stage presence would inspire the likes of Katt Williams and Snoop Dogg, find widespread underground success among inner cities in the 1970s, and would lead him to collaborate with a wide swath of artists into his later years, from Big Daddy Kane to Insane Clown Posse. His various bits and sketches would even become sampling fodder in tracks by Madlib, A Tribe Called Quest, DJ Shadow, 2 Live Crew, and innumerable others.

Above all else, Rudy Ray Moore's best known and most beloved claim to fame is his tales of the legend of Dolemite the pimp. Derived from various obscene stories he overheard while working in a record store, Moore's most famous routine saw him take on the role of Dolemite, and recount humorous stories and anecdotes which framed the hustler as something of a ghetto folk hero. These anecdotes proved to be incredibly popular in urban clubs and parties, and would later be adapted into the hit 1975 blaxploitation film Dolemite, of which Moore would produce and star.

In celebration of Rudy Ray Moore's extensive works, as well as the upcoming Eddie Murphy-starring Netflix biopic featuring him, Dolemite Records proudly presents this reissue of one of his 1975 release, The Return Of Dolemite. Coming just on the cusp of the feature film's release, Return sees Moore at the top of his game, spinning anecdotal yarns about sexual conquests, hustling stories, and in his own parlance: "F*ckin' up motherf*ckas!"

Danced Til Midnight returns to 2020 with the Real Love EP. Fusing the funk band aesthetic of the original tracks with the reworks from two vibrant and innovative house producers makes for a heady mix.
Side A carries the original funk renditions by Danced Til Midnight. 'Real Love' combines afrobeat-inspired rhythms with soulful vocals and a Sun Ra- like soundscape. The second cut, 'Top Shelf Liquor', continues the psychedelia-infused excursions this time underpinned by a P-Funk groove, jazzy sax riffing and a lyrical commentary delivered with soul power.

New LP from Chicago pop/soul outfit The Right Now. Since 2009, the band has toured much of the United States and released two albums, racking up placements in television, national commercials, and the multi-million-selling video game Watch Dogs. Starlight covers musical ground as diverse as the city that spawned TRN: dance beat elation, gritty torch songs, and synth-pop grandeur. Stefanie Berecz's ''classic and contemporary voice'' (Philadelphia Inquirer) sits atop breezy horn lines and intricate arrangements. Dubbed ''the real deal'' (Pittsburgh City Paper) and ''sweet soul satisfaction'' (Nashville Scene), TRN has opened for Fitz & The Tantrums, George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic, Bettye LaVette, Lee Fields, and many others; their 2012 release Gets Over You received airplay from Seattle to Ashville and hit the CMJ Top 200 charts.
