Jonathan Fitoussi - Diagonals
Jonathan Fitoussi
Diagonals
LP | 2018 | EU | Original (Hands In The Dark)
17,99 €*
Release:2018 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Hailing from Paris, Jonathan Fitoussi has been exploring contemporary minimalist musical forms for almost a decade. His recent solo works have been described as a “fusion of electronic and acoustic sounds with melodic textures, colours and emotions in a cinematographic aesthetic style”, all of which is fuelled by his passion for recording, for analogue studio technology and for rare instruments. He’s also audio restoration engineer at Institut National de l’Audiovisuel – INA & GRM – Groupe de Recherches Musicales (Recollection GRM).‘Diagonals’ is the live recording of a one-track long improvised set that was performed on a warm June evening in 2018, at the crypt of St James’s Church in London. Inspired by the performance space and the place, he sculpted matrix combinations with the semi-modular Synthi AKS and Buchla Music Easel 70’s synthesisers, creating sounds whose vibrations resonated with the repetitive geometric motifs woven into the Afghan rugs on which the composer and his audience were comfortably installed and the venue's brick vaults and pillars. ‘Diagonals’ transcribes a trance-like analogue experience. It is a compilation of crafted sequences forming one sublime, hypnotic gem of modern ambient electronica.
Matthias Puech - Alpestres

LP | 2018 | EU | Original (Hands In The Dark)
17,99 €*
Release:2018 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
We are pleased to welcome Parisian Matthias Puech into the HITD fold with his album 'Alpestres'. A researcher by day, he transforms into a nocturnal narrator of sound travel by night, with his new album taking us on a mythical, magical hike up to the inaccessible heights of the Alps. Puech creates a vast collection of untouched electronica landscapes with modular synthesisers built by his own fair hands. With his various devices, he emulates the sounds of nature and gives sonic form to feelings, forming an alternate reality. The invitation to immerse yourself here brings with it a share of paradoxes: sublime nature can be as fragile as it is violent, and the intimacy of finding yourself alone in the face of it contrasts with the multitude of rare, silent creatures that inhabit such places. 'Alpestres' is a fascinating and complex thematic album of a rare depth that will bring rewards to any intrepid sound adventurer who ventures to listen.

The Shape Of The Dance
LP | 2016 | EU | Original (Hands In The Dark)
15,99 €*
Release:2016 / EU – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
The London-based duo Tomaga are back with a new record. “The Shape of the Dance” is their second full length album, a follow-up to "Futura Grotesk", which was released in 2014 with Hands in the Dark. The instrumental, experimental tracks compiled on this new opus evoke something which feels closer to the band's impressive live performances than their previous recordings. The spiralling polyrhythmic percussion, performed with a range of materials, the vibraphone, the frenetic bass, the organ and oscillators, are all complicit in a strange dervish, striking a minimalist, but very accessible tone. The album was mainly improvised and boasts a very fresh and diverse sound. It features both live and studio recordings as well as top notch contributors, including Rick Tomlinson and the band Bultwurst. It is undoubtedly one of the most original and solid records of the genre that you will hear this year!

Roche
LP | 2018 | EU | Original (Hands In The Dark)
17,99 €*
Release:2018 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
More than five years have gone by since we collaborated with the talented musician behind the project, Sylvain Bombled - who, like HITD itself, hails from Besançon, France - and put out his first brilliant album “Cut up”.His new album "Roche" is more electronic and bold than the first album ... less traditional, more adventurous. The guitar has given way to synths and other analogue sequencers. As for the vocals, they have all but disappeared, as though the listener should be left to be totally taken in by the beguiling, trippy graphic powers and cinematic quality of the new compositions. These ambient hymns reveal something new to the listener with each playback. The rich production and fine details guide us through arid, solitary lands, striking us like the midday sun in Death Valley.

Instead of rain I bring a hat is a long-distance collaboration between the UK’s Aaron Moore (Volcano The Bear, Gospel Of Mars, duo with Alan Courtis) and Norwegian Erik K Skodvin (Svarte Greiner, Deaf Center, B/B/S). It developed gently, taking its full form over the space of nearly 6 years. The project began with e-mail exchanges of fragmented sounds and ideas - on the piano, cello, drums, harp, vocals, homemade and electronic instruments. Their experimental correspondence eventually blossomed and grew into an exquisite, fully-fledged album of brooding cinematic compositions. Through 7 songs, Moore and Skodvin lead us through complex, haunted, minimalistic pieces. They are surreal, sonically fascinating and deeply moving. A very special and original album in both its conception and result - definitely one of a kind in the HITD discography.

Release:2018 / EU – Original

Limited edition of 300 on yellow transparent vinyl. This third album somehow manages to compile and condense the best bits of its predecessors, and the magnificent viridian, glacial universe developed by Case since the beginning of his solo ventures is brought to the forefront. The Chicago artist centres his elusive, dehumanised compositions around two simple, minimal elements. Using just vocals and synths, he has created a simultaneously modern and post-apocalyptic soundtrack, where music exists as the final traces of the footsteps of humanity.

Spirit Design
LP | 2017 | EU | Original (Hands In The Dark)
15,99 €*
Release:2017 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Only a year after his debut solo album with Hands in the Dark, Brian Case (90 Day Men, Disappears, Bambi Kino Duo, Facs...) is back this August with Spirit Design. The record consists of ten new experimental tracks of concrete dub and electronic wizardry. This sophomore solo record is drastically different from the Chicagoan’s first opus, Tense Nature. Case has added vocals and more beats to his compositions, putting together an album that promises and lends itself to a loud, moving live experience. Although in ways it is more experimental, listeners will find this follow-up more straightforward than his previous work. Nonetheless, one element of Case’s compositions that has been carried across into the new work is his signature ability to create a unique, self-contained sound sphere within each track. Each track in turn by turn transporting the listener into a different ambient universe, yet still all coming together to form a coherent whole. This is arguably Case’s trademark musical gesture, and one that has kept us here at HITD hooked.

New Age Sewage
LP | 2017 | EU | Original (Hands In The Dark)
15,99 €*
Release:2017 / EU – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie, Electronic / Dance
It’s been four years since Robedoor released their previous LP on Hands in the Dark, Primal Sphere, but this spring Britt and Alex Brown return with a new odyssey of chaos and psychosis: New Age Sewage. Written and recorded across multiple seismic life events (moves, births, deaths), the album is centered on heavy visions of negative west coast mythology. Themes of poison, hallucination, conspiracy, and false messiahs weave within their sinkholes of mystic sludge. The duo’s music has grown darker, denser, and more visceral with each album. There’s a sense of practiced ritual, of deepening meditation, portals opening against their will. New Age Sewage documents half a decade of the band’s hermetic focus, shaped by instinct, will, and apocalyptic realities.

Weird Times is Matt Jencik’s debut solo album, in which he presents ten pure ambient, abstract drone tracks. Each song has been written using samples of his old, unused guitar riffs as their source. In composing them, he took that era of his songwriting through a process of 'burial' by deconstructing the rock guitar riffs and arranging them into very usable ambient sounds, and thereby developing a new way of composing freely. It is an immense pleasure to be able to showcase such a great modern album, which is both dark and dreamy, showing an impressive maturity and formidable talent.

Release:2016 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Brian Case (Disappears, Bambi Kino Duo…) is releasing his debut solo album, Tense Nature, which sees him focus his work on space, minimalism and repetition. The songs are all built around the idea of tape loops or lock grooves, working with snippets and phrases of sound. The result of his experiment is 12 primarily electronic, abstract, visceral, ambient tracks. They depict a dark environment, an uncanny landscape with its own contained world

Hands In The Dark Vinyl, CD & Tape

Hands In The Dark is a French record from Besançon, founded in 2010. Morgan and Onito met at a party, discovered their common love for »unclassified« music and decided to found a record label. They put their idea into action pretty quickly and henceforth in the DIY method they pass music by Lumerians, Death And Vanilla or Co La in great packaging from fancier to fancier. There is nothing else to tell about and more should not be added: »We’re not special at all! So many label records do the same as we do.« That is motivation enough.
