Some words from the label:
A strong, rough, plump voice with the typical tone heard in the creole outdoor musical gatherings. Erick Cosaque’s voice is made to go over and above the two boula drums and the makè drum which are associated in general, along a few light percussions, with the Guadeloupean gwo ka. Whether heard at an informal street corner kout’ tanbou, during a traditional evening at someone’s place or in the musical léwoz of a community center, his warm yet imperial voice has been known by West Indians, in the islands and in the mainland through music, radio and television thanks to a career spanning more than forty five years – about twenty solo albums, forty or so participations and collaborations with artists of all generations and genres within the Caribbean music scene.
Although Erick Cosaque is a major figure in Gwo ka, he managed to avoid being part of any institutional system – no label, no alliance, no funding. His voice, one of the strongest in that genre, has been significant since the early 70’s for restoring the original spontaneous and rebellious spirit present in gwo ka with artistic creations starting in the age of vinyl and continuing in the digital era.
Erick Cosaque resembles Gwo ka, whose music has simple components but is deeply rooted in a complex historical and social context made of fights, pleasures, memories and desires.
Transcendent : “Surpassing the ordinary; exceptional”
2007 - 2017 : Heavenly Sweetness is turning 10 years old!
They are celebrating with 3 birthday parties, and 2 compilations! One is a best of the label’s production, and the 2nd one is made of exclusive tracks, composed for this occasion.
The artists make the strength of a label, that’s why each Heavenly Sweetness artist has been offered a birthday present: the opportunity to collaborate with someone he appreciates, of just to record a new track.
The result is a great collection of new tracks or remixes with prestigious guests such as Ken Boothe (the golden voice of Reggae, recorded by Blundetto), the impressive encounter of Guts, Patrice, Féfé and DjeuhDjoah & Lieutenant Nicholson, a new intimist session with Roger Raspail, Alain Jean Marie and Vincent Ségal, remixes by Lefto and Hugo LW, new recording by Florian Pellissier Quintet and Cotonete, as well as the new artists joining the label: The Mule, and Edmony Krater. Indeed, Heavenly Sweetness is also moving forward and constructing its future!

This compilation is a very subjective best of the label’s production, from each album or single we had the chance to produce, with great artists.
A journey through 10 years of music, a great introduction to the label’s universe, but even the experts will discover unknown tracks.
Including well known artists such as Guts, Blundetto, Sly Johnson, Anthony Joseph, but also more confidential artists: Robert Aaron, Jacaranda Muse, Patchworks (and his tribute to Gil Scott-Heron) and many others!
From Hip Hop to Soul, then from Soul to Beatmaking: from flow to singing, then from singing to production, Sly Johnson never really changed universe. He has just changed the direction of his musical compass in order to navigate with more flow.
Today, it’s immersed in the mechanics with processors and printed circuits that we find him, under the alias of TAGi, producer-beatmaker who, for the occasion, has joined the services of Steven Beatberg. It’s together, in artistic autarchy with the only presence of softwares, samplers and sequencers, that they have built their pieces in the light of their computer screens, rhythmizing the days by inserting snares or grindings of plugs taken from their sound database.
If records are, most of the time, Hip Hop’s nourishing materials, TAGi et Steven have however not used any samples. Their favourite recordings were not materials to exploit, but an aesthetic from which to inspire, compose, and search atmospheres and melodies, search his arrangements. After three EP dominated by instrumentals, the duo finally chose to realise their dream: to craft a multi-voice album where customized production for each guest would guide the creative process. To put themselves at the exclusive service of artists they particularly love, all different but connected by an uncompromising resistance to the commercial wind blowing on Hip Hop. For each one of them, they have built a title, keeping in mind the precise idea to put to light he or her that will vocally dress the bars.
Rapper Big Pooh, the former member of the Little Brother group (With Phonte & 9th Wonder), the contemporary soul of Lisa Spada, but also the rapist #madeinfrance Pumpkin (worthy descendant of MC Solaar, Fabe …), multi-faceted Georgia Anne Muldrow, the MC Finale, the new rising wave of artists of the Hip-Hop scene in Detroit. Tiemoko from Paris, Saga an MC who follows the pure tradition of the New York Hip-Hop, the very smooth-jazzy Elodie Rama and Dilouya, the producer of the previous record of Sly (The Mic Buddah), are of this casting where men and women share the roles and where TAGi, as soon as the mic presents itself to him, becomes again Sly Johnson for some refrains, choruses or solo rereading of the sublime “Retrograde” of James Blake.
Guided by Hip Hop since the 90’s until today, worked in great detail, YOUARESURROUNDED highlights vintage keyboards on granular rhythms, injecting a lascivious Soul, P-funk, electro futuristic or melancholic in black and white touches on 13 tracks that are as atmospheric as they are emotional.
The substance, the essence, the soul of the Hip-Hop.
Along their perambulations around the globe, they handpicked a number of rare and often unique pearls that they found, at times in damaged shells, at others barely surviving in abused, large record collections. Guts and Mambo patiently selected these tracks with the intent of creating a vinyl barrier reef, an atoll of sound safe from the rising tide of noise pollution that the music industry spews forth every summer.
The 2016 edition once again treats listeners to an incredible diversity of styles and ambiences, ranging from jazz-funk to samba-rock, disco, soul, and reggae. Because in the end, the geographic origin matters little. Even if the golden triangle of Brazil, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago remains the largest supplier, “Beach Diggin’” is above all a way of being, a way of living the moment and life in general to the fullest. Permanent coolitude on the BPM, fast or slow, an epicureanism that is equally at ease whether its produced with a sense of Amazonian luxuriousness or the sparse comfort of a deserted beach, a reserve of a few degrees of heat to put on the turntable when it gets cold outside.
So, it’s not surprising that tracks from Eastern Europe, North Africa, or the US have quickly received their stamp of approval. In this fourth compilation, just as in the previous three, the rule remains: “Beach Diggin’” still is a state of mind.
GUTS is one of the most famous French beatmaker. He founded the band ALLIANCE ETHNIK which had a strong success in the mid 90’s and spent all these years perfecting his skills alongside Bob Power, Rahzel (The Roots), De La Soul, Common and Biz Markie.
After the band break up in 1999, he did beats for French hip hop band like Sages poetes, Svinkels and Big red (half of Raggasonic). Big Red album production led him to Jamaica where he collaborated with Anthony B, Michael Rose, Sugar Minott…
2007 represented a first major change. Having lived in Paris up till then, he headed for Ibiza. Not for the clubs, though. Instead, in the company of his best friend, the MPC4000 and his precious vinyl record collection, he concocted his first solo album, Guts le Bienheureux. Released on UK label Wax On Records (set up by DJ EASE of Nightmares On Wax), this pack of little instrumental energy pills brought him to international attention on the back of And The Leaving Is Easy and its mariachi brass riffs.
The next step was producing his own records on the Pura Vida Music label that he founded and used to release Freedom, his second album. The tracks are more structured and crammed with subliminal samples that take us through gentle landscapes or plumb dark, dark depths. They extend to over three minutes, which means he can now interest ears other than ones wedded to hip-hop.

The 2011 EP Rage Against My Computer brought his do-it-yourself hiatus to a close and Heavenly Sweetness’s release of Paradise For All confirms this. Paradise for all is an attractive prospect and Guts proves it is not beyond him as he does his level best to keep his promise with these 11 tracks.
Heavenly Sweetness Vinyl, CD & Tape
Heavenly Sweetness is a record label from Paris that has been founded by Antoine Rajon and Franck Descollonges. They describe their releases as »colourful music for the soul«. Actually they try to parry categorizations. The music that is released on Heavenly Sweetness can be well described with the attributes »spiritual« and »free«. Such music is most likely found in the genres soul, funk and jazz. Heavenly Sweetness releases both new releases and re-releases of rare and inspiring records. Established artist (Monnette Sudler, Doug Hammond, Doug Carn, Byard Lancaster, Chilly Gonzales) such as talents (Anne Wirz, Anthony Joseph, Stéphane Rongetz) are signed on that label. What brings it all together is the idea, only to release music that is produced with the production conditions like they were in the 1960ties. Therefore a track should (preferably) recorded in only one take and without overdubs. Newfangled technical bells and whistles are set aside in favor of an immediate sound.
