Hip-hop giants Cypress Hill have announced new album 'Elephants On Acid'.

The project finds producer DJ Muggs returning to helm the project, the first full length he has worked on with the group for over a decade.

Out on September 28th, the rap odyssey contains 21 tracks, moving from expansive pieces to short interludes, beat workouts and more.

“Anything can happen when Muggs, B-Real, and myself get together to record,” says Sen Dog. “We were kids when we first got together. We’ve grown up as men now, but the chemistry is still the same. When we first came out in the nineties, we sounded like nobody else; we sounded like ourselves. This is another continuation”.

B-Real adds: “The album is both a trip back to the roots and an escape into a completely new world”.

On the West Coast, gangsta rap held sway in hip-hop as the 21st century began. The alternative and conscious rap music of the early-to-mid-90s had all but faded into the underground. The scene was set for a comeback, perhaps as a backlash to the perceived violence and misogyny of
gangsta rap's content. Leading the resurgence of alternative hip-hop were groups like Jurassic 5, and recent
signees to Capitol Records; a West coast trio that had been building steam underground since the early 90s called Dilated Peoples.

Anticipation was high for the release of the debut album from Evidence, Rakaa, and DJ Babu. (Of the influential turntablist collective Beat Junkies.) When The Platform arrived in May of 2000 it was met with critical and underground acclaim, as well as affording Dilated Peoples their first Billboard chartings. It featured a back-to-basics sound with a heavy debt to the old-school hip-hop ethos, the kind of sound that harkened back to the early days of legends like De La Soul & A Tribe Called Quest. Hits like
""No Retreat"" and ""The Platform"" were bolstered by Evidence & Rakaa's subtle, abstract wit, and swift, adroit wordplay, while DJ Babu provided production chops and dextrous scratches. On The Platform the trio were joined by the likes of B-Real, Tha Alkoholiks, Everlast, Planet
Asia, and many more providing guest vocals, while boasting guest production from The Alchemist & Kut Masta Kurt, among others.

Since its 2000 release this influential record, which heralded the return of alternative hip-hop, has never seen
a vinyl reissue. With that, Get On Down-always on top of giving the greatest hip-hop albums their due-is proud to present this re-release of The Platform. The rhymes are still fresh, the production is still pristine, and the album is now back on vinyl for the first time in 17 years.

The album finds the Haitian born, Montreal raised producer delivering on the promise of his early self-released EPs and remixes.

Since the age of fourteen, when he first began to DJ and when his brother introduced him to music production software, his output has been relentless. He explains, “after he showed me the basics, from that day on I couldn’t stop making beats,” pumping out a handful of tracks per day for the next couple of years.

Having released singles like ‘Drive Me Crazy‘ with Vic Mensa and ‘Leave Me Alone‘ with Shay Lia, Kaytranada has since cemented his reputation and his sound; an undeniable swing of the drums comparable to Dilla’s, a signature soulful touch in the melodies, and a healthy dose of funky bass lines.

"Tale of frustration": The story of a character who confuses his need for recognition with his passion, which will lead him to blame his "pseudo failure" on the people around him... This tale tells how his frustration leads him to his descent into hell.

I wrote this album in 2005 in the same period as "Soldats de Fortune".

"Story telling" is a genre that I really like in rap and I wanted to write a series of titles where we would find the same characters at the heart of a story with the ambition of shooting a film based on this album.

The opposite of a "film soundtrack", we will say that it is the "original film of the album" that I co-directed with my friend Didier D.Daarwin.

Each performer on the album is interpreted by an actress or actor: Amel Bent/Leila Bekti; Faf Larage/Roschdy Zem; Veust/Omar Sy; Sako/Fred Testot; and myself by Nicolas Cazalé.

I would like to thank all these artists again for their participation in this project and for their trust. Thanks also to Marie Guillard, Rivka, Oxmo Puccino, Soprano and all the participants of this film, including Yves Bigot who signed the project at France Télévisions and who was thanked before the broadcast.

Thanks to France Télévisions for having believed in this project by broadcasting it on 08/08/2010 at 10:45 p.m., which forced us to release the album on 07/26/2010 and to the CSA (now ARCOM) for to have classified the film, prohibiting it to those under 16.

But despite everything, beyond their "contempt"; this project remains a magnificent human and professional experience. I put one of my big dreams in a big box...

Today, a few years later and with hindsight, I am very proud to include this project in the celebration of 50 years of Hip Hop culture. "Conte de la frustration" will be available on vinyl on May 11 and in preview on May 1.

Ransom and V Don connect on their highly anticipated collaborative album, "Chaos Is My Ladder", and just as expected, Jersey City's emcee technical bars perfectly fit V Don's cinematic soundscape. Alongside guest appearances by Lloyd Banks, 38 Spesh, Eto, J. Arrr, Mad Squablz and Crystal Caines, the two have crafted a perfect record for their already incredible catalogues, with Ransom coming on the heels of "This Life Made Me" and his "No Rest For The Wicked", and V Don’s most recent collaboration "Deutsche Marks 3" with Willie The Kid.

Tha God Fahim and Camoflauge Monk have done quite some work together in the previous here, their projects such as “Iron Monkey” and “Blvk Pearl” 1 and 2 have reached cult status within the new underground rap renaissance. After a few years, they’re back on the grind together on this new EP “Dark Shogunn Assassin”. Featuring guest appearance by Estee Nack and killer artwork direction by Squatdeadface and Lord NMF, the 3 bangers are available on a limited edition of 350 copies.

MC's Chem and Jah, from Washington Heights (ny) formed Trauma Squad when they were hooked up with a young producer named Om'Mas Keith by Raw Breed's business manager and co-producer Ariel Caban. Caban was in high school with the rappers and later went on to work in the A&R department of RCA Records at the same time as the 16 year old Keith was interning there. Caban told me "I introduced them to Om'Mas because both had unique styles. Trauma with their off the wall eclectic style and Om' Mas with his musical genius who can play every instrument. They hit it off well right from the jump and created the demo tape."



There was some interest prior to making their demo, from Profile and Sleeping Bag Records but nothing firm. Most of the demos weren't in great condition but 2 have been resurrected from the old demo tape for a little taster 7" of what this crew might've become. Recorded in 95, Herring presents 2 ill tracks from this unknown group's unknown catalogue. Enjoy yo!!

Only a handful [less than 10] of TPs were pressed back in 93 and then it got dropped from the label, so was never actually released. Killer EP from Kas' crew Party Poopers. Kas never found out why it never got the full release but he suggested that it was possibly due to the label owner's illness [that's sickness - i Mean, sure he was nicewiddit but he wasn't well this guy!]. The truth is lost in time but fortunately these recordings were recovered by Kas from his DAT tapes, so we can present to you the final release from the Herring x Kas collaboration. It's a crying shame he never got to see his pet project released, but at Least the music will live on.

Kevin Madison a.k.a. K-Solo a.k.a. the "original rap criminal" was a member of EPMD's "Hit Squad" and legendary antagonist of the Hit Squad's Keith Murray and also of DMX, whom K-Solo had met in prison while serving a three-year sentence. His 1990 debut album, Tell the World My Name, scored three rap hit singles with "Your Mom's in My Business," "Spellbound," and "Fugitive," and featured production from EPMD's Parrish "PMD" Smith. It was a highlight in a year full of legendary rap releases, but it's never been out on vinyl. Our Real Gone release features a lemon-colored vinyl pressing.

R.I.P. MF DOOM

Underneath his mysterious metal mask, MF DOOM hides the cachet underground legends are made of. After his first group KMD's sophomore album Black Bastards was shelved by Elektra in 1994, and his blood brother Subroc _ one half of the sibling rap duo _ passed away, surviving frontman Zev Love X slowly mutated into the supervillain MC known as MF DOOM, and the rap world is better for it. The 1999 release of Operation: Doomsday marked MF DOOM's official debut, reintroducing a mysterious figure who would soon become one of underground rap's greatest voices. Within its 19 tracks, Operation: Doomsday reveals the confluence of DOOM's tragic past, personal interests and daring creativity. His clever rhymes and remarkable schemes stood out against the landscape, and every sound he touched _ from cartoon theme songs, to `80s soul, to rap classics and more _ got reinterpreted into something brand new and surreal. Decades later, MF DOOM is still celebrated for all facets of his work and influence. In the face of tragedy, DOOM re-infiltrated the rap game on his own terms, and crafted an instant cult classic. Operation: Doomsday stands as a testament to the power of betting on yourself against all odds.

DJ Evil Dee threw down an early career production masterclass on the jazzy “Who Got Da Props?” with Mr. Walt - the first of many production projects for Da Beatminerz. So how can I hate my father without hating me?) and the highly political (“I told the black man he didn’t understand I reached the white man he wouldn’t take my hand”). Cinematic in scale and scope, hugo is both a rallying war cry for a generation forged in fire and a study of the personal internal conflict that drives the rest of the album - as a mixed-race Black man, as an artist, as a father and as a son. The song closes with an emotional ending of Carner telling his dad “still I’m lucky yo that we talk”. There’s a striking duality of hugo’s bold, multilayered tracks and its often starkly intimate and tender lyricism, and that dichotomy is deliberate - it is a message for young Black men, but really, anyone, who is listening. Cognizant of the immense pain and fear and confusion that we are faced with everyday, Carner has thrown down the gauntlet, defying us not to rise above the fray, wake up each day and be ambitious. Manu Propria — a Latin phrase meaning “with one’s own hand” — is the name of the adventurous project from proficient sample-based producer Dday One. The term also signifies the hand-crafted nature of the album’s compositions, meticulously assembled using nothing but vinyl records, a turntable, and a hardware sampler. The process emphasized human touch, intention, and an application of experience, not unlike other manual arts like assemblage or painting. The result is Manu Propria, a collection of 10 deftly constructed tracks layered with beats, soundscapes, and musical snatches from distant sources.

Released on The Content Label, Manu Propria is a companion among Dday One’s extensive discography as many of the tracks were recorded alongside those earlier sessions. The cuts’ origins span between 2015 and 2020, but together they form a cohesive display of Dday One’s ceaseless and celebrated audio explorations. “Total Mosaic” is a prime example of sonic mastery — a vibrant sax takes the centerpiece as arpeggiated notes and crunchy drum hits provide the backbone. The mood is nearly meditative, eliciting introspection as the head nods on time. This vibe is further conveyed on tracks like “Moments Avec Toi” with its swelling strings, “Pixel Hunting” and its synth bass drive and dramatic builds, and “Level Scaling” with its harp and guitar interplay. Dday One’s attention to his craft reveals intricate, connecting threads on repeat plays — Manu Propria is open to both pure enjoyment and deep examination.

When asked at the time about what to expect from this collaboration with Edo G, the legend Masta Ace fired back without hesitation: “People are gonna be surprised when they hear the mixture of styles. We both have a different approach. It’s like the old Reeses commercial... Ya got peanut butter walking down the street. Coming from the other direction is chocolate. Someone trips and blam, a peanut butter cup was born. Something new and amazing was created that no one had ever thought of!” When one thinks of Boston and New York, the first thing that comes to mind is the infamous Red Sox/Yankees rivalry. But this time when Boston met New York, it was a collaborative effort to bring the world one of the tightest Hip Hop efforts of 2009. Exploring a wide array of tracks from the Metroid series, Chewie remixes tunes ranging all the way from the series’ debut on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, through Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and the Metroid Prime trilogy.

Chewie, real name Nestor Estrada, is a guitarist and music producer native to Los Angeles, California. Producing and composing music for over a decade, he’s also the lead sound designer at Output, a software instrument company. Chewie produced Samus & Chill with Logic Pro using custom-built synthesizers, orchestral sound libraries, and vast textures created from his eurorack and guitar. While Chewie’s been a guitarist most of his life, his piano chops also shine through across the album.

Samus & Chill features 12 tracks from the Metroid game series, including tracks from Metroid, Super Metroid, Fusion, Prime, Prime 3, Other M, and Samus Returns. Just like the sun god, uprising producer fLako uses ‘The Mesektet’ to end the cycle of darkness and prepare for his own rebirth, marking the end of an era in his style of production and move forward into new musical directions, which he already started to explore on his ‘Mini Tollbooth EP’. This release includes a collection of previously unreleased or only digitally available works from the time up until 2008.
The artwork design was created by surrealistic painter Dan May, known for his hairy fantasy creatures possesing humanlike features.
