Composer Lena Raine’s already rich and vibrant Chicory soundtrack takes on a fresh life, courtesy of composer and pianist Trevor Alan Gomes, for this all-new album. The music by legends, Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher, is undisputedly excellent, charming in its love of lyricism, with perfectly-honed harmonies and arrangements. These are the songs that rocketed The Muppets from mere TV stardom to the realm of rockstars, featuring outstanding performances by Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo the Great, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem (with Animal on wicked drums), and so many more. Statler and Waldorf would even approve of the outstanding album artwork by Kevin Wilson, who approached this design not merely as a commission, but as a lifelong obsession with The Muppets.

In developer Timberline Studio’s The Red Lantern, you play as The Musher, a woman who has abandoned her life in the city in order to chase her dreams of dogsledding in the Alaskan mountains. The resulting experience contrasts the beauty and tranquility of nature with the challenges of surviving in a harsh and unforgiving world. Moments of calm are interrupted by the stark realities of survival as you manage the weather, your hunger, and your dogs’ exhaustion. The game’s music is reflective of this delicate balance, too. In it, composer Hrishikesh Hirway (of Song Exploder fame!) has arranged a soundtrack that brings to mind thoughts of isolation, tranquility, loneliness, endurance, and, ultimately, victory in the face of impossible challenge. iam8bit is super proud to bring the music of The Red Lantern to vinyl with this release. Presented on Aurora Purple vinyl and wrapped up in gorgeous album art by the incomparable Haley bbanditt Wakefield, it’s a tribute to everything we love about the game and a celebration of the awe-inspiring beauty of nature itself.

As if its title wasn’t evidence enough, Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is an experience that has a very spunky point of view. While it takes a cue from the wholesome games playbook, it’s smarm and charm are wholly unique, standing out as one of the most irreverent indies in recent years. This is owed largely to its scene-stealing soundtrack, which is eccentric and absolutely joyous, featuring 21 wide-ranging tracks composed by James Currier & Ryan Borbone (collectively known as “fblk.”), and some surprise vocals by Currier & Yukie Dong. Way back in 2001, we witnessed monkey mayhem unfurl, by way of a topsy-turvy gameplay mechanic that probably sounded pretty wacky on paper. Super Monkey Ball was totally bizarre and absolutely delightful then — and now, here we are 20 years later, writing about it in a product description. However, for as much love as the characters and the world receive, the unsung gem of this series is its music, which has never been better than in this incarnation, supremely titled, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania. It’s an evolution of the catchy tunes from the OG version, presented here as dancy, trancy, lovely and chill tracks that are incredibly enjoyable to absorb on a lazy Saturday afternoon. In all honesty we wouldn’t be surprised if a few of these ditties snuck into an Electric Daisy Carnival set — they’re that delectably bouncy. iam8bit couldn’t be happier to present this collection, in collaboration with Sega Music, presented with a nod to Andy Warhol’s legendary Velvet Underground album design and done up here with cheeky luster by fellow superstars, Little Friends of Printmaking. And yes, the banana is a static cling that actually peels off the album! So cool!
