Almost 10 years have passed since Onra arrived with the charmingly eccentric Chinoiseries LP. 32 Hip-Hop beats formed the sample-based project - dusty Chinese vinyl hissing and crackling throughout – resulting in an intriguing and spontaneous mix of the producers interest in exploring a newly-discovered style of Music with his love for classic Hip-Hop production. Using the style of analogue MPC production combined with the somewhat restrictive record sampling of strictly Chinese Music records, he has been able to be creative over three volumes, an amount of 100 instrumentals, despite the challenge of finding more obviously standout samples in Chinese music. The Chinoiseries projects are the type of albums that invites the listener to play it from beginning to end, in order to really enjoy the trip and appreciate the variety of rhythms and textures spread over those 32 short instrumentals. In that way, “Pt.3” is no different to its predecessors, but the originality of the samples, the curious harmonies and the odd-drum patterns still makes the album sounds as fresh as the first one. Onra finishes this epic trilogy with class as a result of extended record digging across the Far East and the producer's own development over the preceding 10 years. As a producer who has released records inspired by 80's Funk, 90's Hip-Hop and R'n'B, Electronic and even a Spiritual Jazz project, “Pt. 3” brings this stylised set to a close. Normally a man of few words, Onra has his own take on the three Volumes: I see the first Chinoiseries as a trip, inspired by my own first travel to Asia, each beat representing one particular moment of the journey, the second one, more like a soundtrack to a movie, each beat representing a different scene, and the third one, I tried to create a dark, smoky and mysterious cinematic atmosphere so you could create your own movie in your head. For this last episode, I just really wanted to have fun with this type of material for the very last time. I dug deeper than ever and I have tried to do as many different rhythm patterns as possible, from various influences like Hip-Hop (from different eras), to Bossa to Indian Music to Psych Rock, Soul, etc. and try to portray a different image of Chinese Music.

“A Safe Place to Be Naked” is S.Fidelity’s debut album, which will be released on May 5th via Jakarta Records. It features 12 tracks, capturing the producer’s quest for a fresh sound, which he elaborated over the last two years, locked in his tiny basement studio in Berlin. Evolving from there the he has also released an EP with Feelin Music in 2014, and “Sidekicks”, a joint project with long-term friend and collaborator Bluestaeb in 2016. By working with artists like Tru Thoughts singer Harleighblu and label mate JuJu Rogers as well as fellow producers Bluestaeb and Shuffle Jack, his LP “A Safe Place to Be Naked” plays with sampled vocals and even his own voice – often distorted, but still present.S. Fidelity was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, mainly works in Berlin and currently resides in London. As a producer he developed a unique and always driving sound, combining sampling techniques and classic beat making with unusual drum patterns, modern synth and atmospheric sound effects. S. Fidelity’s laid-back eclecticism is marked by a deep knowledge and fascination for Pop culture as a whole. His idea of fresh HipHop references to various genres, including Jazz, Ambient, Disco and Electronica. The LP contains an A2 poster & metall sticker.

Aptly titled, “1996 Beat Tape Vol. 1”, DJ Spinna’s latest instrumental album features 18 original beats all produced on the EMU-SP1200 & Akai S950 circa 1996. With over 25 years in business, the Brooklyn native is tied to nothing short of greatness and a legacy of diverse extensions since his beginnings as a house DJ in the late 80s. Many know Spinna for being in the elite group of seasoned party rockers where his resume includes collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee, Michael Jackson & Prince (Soul Slam) tribute parties and several US/international bookings a month. Others regard him as one of house music’s best for his well-orchestrated dance tracks that blend jazz, soul & funk, Caribbean and Latin themes into his trademark, “Intergalactic Soul”.Producing in the mid 90’s with his underground duo, the Jigmastas, Spinna acquired national recognition for remixing Das EFX’s, “Microphone Master” single. He would gain larger recognition for his classic remix of De La Soul’s, “Stakes Iz High” single originally produced by the legendary Jay Dee aka J Dilla who became a friend in addition to being a contemporary. After a deal with Rawkus Records and producing some of Eminem’s early official appearances, Spinna achieved placements as a go to beat maker for legends, veterans and new MC’s. Though DJ Spinna has found continued success away from his roots, he has always satisfied his core audience whether producing for Homeboy Sandman, Phonte, The Jigmastas or his own solo projects.”1996 Beat Tape Vol. 1” is a rare peek into his deep archive. Much of the material was sourced directly from aged DAT tapes and floppy disks from the year 1996.Don’t let the 20-year lapse mislead that these compositions are primitive to today’s standards. The 18-track fully instrumental LP proves the advanced production techniques and sampling ideas Spinna employed are still ahead of its time long before much of the resurgence of 90s revivalist themes from today’s artists. The “1996 beat Tape” is the “Real McCoy”. All music was produced before computers, before accessible home studios and before instrumental hip-hop was a category. Many of the beats were made with vocalists in mind. Constructed on turntables, the EMU-SP1200 and the Akai S950, historians will appreciate the album cover designed by Joe Buck which depicts intimate photos of Spinna in his studio with the actual gear used to create the album’s contents. This is only the first volume and the debut venture between Redefinition Records and Spinna’s own Correct Technique Records. With 2 plus decades of unreleased material, who knows what the future holds, but history shows that when DJ Spinna releases an instrumental album, they sell fast.

influence reaching far further, the Waxolutionists have been spreading their unique blend of classic sampling, turntablism and electronics - loaded with skills and an abundant love for hiphop – for almost 20 years.A few highlights from the Waxos-biography: founded in 1997 by The Bionic Kid, DJ Zuzee & Dj Buzz. Their legendary debut-12" „Nachtschattengewächs“ (feat. Manuva, released in 1999) was followed by four regular longplayers („The Smart Blip Experience“, 2000; „Plastic People“, 2002; „Counterfight“, 2004; „WePaint Colors“, 2009) and a remix-album („RE:WAX“, 2003). The trio worked with and for artists like DJ Vadim, Ty, UK-rap-legend Blade or broken beat vocalist Lyric L and remixed luminaries like André Heller and Ray Cokes. Finally, after a 6 year break, the three started working on their 6th LP: „The Big Butter, Part 1“. Scratches, wordcuts, instrumental-bangers, rare-groove-joints – brought together in dense sampling collages and fully handcrafted sound sculptures or something in between.Contributing guests on this journey through two decades of band history and a view into the future are the Tyrolean turntablists Chrisfader & Testa and German DJ-legend Mirko Machine.„Our 20 year jubilee in mind, it just felt right to release new work, without any pressure or guidelines: We simply were itching to get new stuff done“. Programmatic for this the two tracks „Back in the Basement“ and „Puttin' Shit Down“ form the proverbial brackets of the album. Simply put, that´s what they do.With „The Big Butter“ the Waxolutionists deliver a 22-strong homage to the old and new times and prove why they have been dearly missed for the past 7 years.

Punky noise, woozy hip-hop and oddball electronics are throwing a rager and it's a colorful one. Such is the basis for new Ghostly signee Psymun's Rainbow Party EP, a three-track foray into the far reaches of Hip-Hop from the Minnesotan music-maker.As part of the acclaimed Thestand4rd project (including fellow Minnesotans Corbin (aka Spooky Black), Bobby Raps and Allan Kingdom) as well as solo work on the Pink Label - Psymun returns with a sonic statement that's as emotive and adventurous as the impressive as the work he's supplied his crew with.EP opener "Glitch Tundra" features frequent collabora- tor Chester Watson dropping in over a sweeping, ominous beat, all fog and chilly echo.Stretching out over seven minutes, an ominous vocal sweeps overhead while synths stagger upwards and dip beneath before a psychedelic, rowdy turn rips deep into the project's heart. The rest of Rainbow Party doubles-down on the project's noise influence. Borne out of a prompt from Ryan Olson of fellow Minneapolis outfit Poliça, Psymun endeavored to make a set of music entirely at 55 bpm, and two of his experiments evolved into the finished tracks included here."I Need My Boy," in a departure from some of his prior production work, relies almost entirely on an arsenal of hardware to thump and wail; a voltaic and warm sonic quality which Psymun says even he finds hard to emulate without his newly acquired synthesizers."Confetti" also makes use of analogue equipment, but works within a palette that may be more familiar to the producer's fans: jangly percussion and aquatic melody intertwine for a slow-burning but dynamic exercise in leftfield beatmaking. As the track draws to a close, vocalist K.Raydiodrops in for a phantasmagoric few bars before the noisy cannon blows once more. It's an aptly titled closer, streamers drifting from above as the festivities come to an end: a party to be remem- bered in technicolor.

Francois Boulanger - Svit is the first official vinyl release by the Basel (CH) based label Oro Negro, which releases Hiphop, Downtempo and House productions. The album is dedicated to the industrial area called „Svit“ in Zlin, a city in the eastern part of CzechRepublic. The dutch/swiss producer Francois Boulanger let himself inspire during a 6 month loverelated stay by the beautifully fucked up buildings which were originally build between 1894 andthe 1930’s by the Bat’a shoe company. The production of the album Svit has an overall industrialvibe and combines hiphop instrumentals with house. Eastern european and american jazzsamples, synthesizers and MPC programmed drums are accompanied by the atmosphere of thearea which itself speaks through field recordings; it’s noises and sounds are used as a storytellingelement throughout the album. These characteristics are also expressed visually on the cover, which is based on a painting by czech painter Filip Lang. The hook shown is a still existing artifactin the area, hanging around in a hidden corner.

Clutchy and Fatty....High desert crunch meets city life punch for this collaborative project in sound. It’s been years since the mysterious CA desert dweller Clutchy Hopkins, has emerged to release new music. His latest collaboration with LA musician, producer and DJ Fat Albert Einstein takes listeners on a journey through psych folk caverns of cactus dust to bloodshot rust-covered marine layer funk. It is distinctive, original and fresh, paying homage to the past, present and future.

'Old Future Worlds' is the second full-length instrumental album from Danish producer Lord Akton. For this release, Akton's inspiration was ignited by Northern European forests, ancestral thoughts, jazz legends and the idea of tomorrow. Genre-defying, the sound can be described as "sample-based spiritual synth-electro". Working with everything from vinyl to synthesizers, drums to guitars, samplers to Logic, Rolands to Rhodes, dreams to reality, coffee to herbs, Lord Akton seeks to capture the listeners’ attention and curiosity, as they embark on an infinite train ride through unexplored worlds. 33 minutes of otherworldly traveling. Limited to 150 copies.

Written and recorded during 3 days session in the studio, there is a spontaneous and relaxing vibe on this album. Even the more intense and "angry" tunes tend to soften up in the end and dissolve into the creamy-washy space thats create the album atmosphere. It feels like its a natural progression from "Memory Tower" - their first album recorded in 2012. Albalak was inspired to write lyrics and sing, Sol Monk recorded a solo album and got more into beats/electronica and Abro kept perfecting his bass lines and grooves. The guests - KerenDun, Nitai Hershekowitz and Marina Maximiliian Blumin - added a beautiful and unique musical touch. Each of them with his distinct color and attitude found a way to integrate and contribute in the best possible way, like a 4th band member. Whats the difference between Layers and Things on top of each other ? its a good question, think about it.....
