In autumn 2019 the label Beat Art Department released Soia's third album "Where Magnolia Grows" with great success. With "Where Magnolia Grows Remixes" the album gets a new coat of paint. A handful of greats from the European hip-hop scene were won over for the remixes. L One (atp Crew, Beat Art Department) and C.O.W.? (Compost Records) from Munich, Moo Latte (U Know Me), Copenhagener by choice, from Warsaw, Franchise and MEZ, both from Vienna and Fvlcrvm from Bratislava.

Moo Latte provides the first remix of Soia’s “Where Magnolia Grows” album, and took “Fractal Spirits” for a new ride! The two Hip Hop/Neo Soul/Jazz artists first met on Soundcloud and have been sending vibes through the ether between Copenhagen and Vienna since then. The “Fractal Spirits” Remix is a first taste for their upcoming EP called “Spiritual Housekeeping".

The second “Where Magnolia Grows” Remix EP teaser re-work comes from C.O.W. ?. Running with the cows. Soia’s sound is so exceptional that the German-Chinese producer collective didn't have to think twice when asked to remix her success single Running With Wolves. This chilled but pressing version is another highlight in the collective's career…

As the third remix comes the smooth, laid back “My Tiny” Remix by Bavarian beat smith L One.

For the new remix from Soia's "Where Magnolia Grows" album, Bratislava-based house producer Fvlcrvm has taken on "Hoe For Love". Fvlcrvm made a real floor filler out of the slow jam "Hoe For Love" with a mixture of house, glitch and broken beat.

Rolling piano & warpy keyboards over a tight drum break was a perfect soundtrack for me while walking my Detroit streets on a sunny afternoon. The vibe comes correct. Side B “Turn It Up“ bounces effortlessly and simply to do what Strictly Butters says, the sweet soul guitar riff will force you to turn the knob up to 11. So whatcha waitin’ for son?

In April 2022 FloFilz released his critically acclaimed album “Close Distance” featuring Alfa Mist, Blue Lab Beats, Jerome Thomas, Dal, Summers Sons, KeepVibesNear & Hunter Rose. Flughand and and Smuv, 37 and 27 year old producers from Germany, collaborate on their debut EP “Fluo”. They are both giants in the streaming game and known for their laid back, dreamy, lofi hip hop beats. They are two of the most well-known artists in the genre of lofi, with streams counting more than 100 million clicks. BeatPete, a fellow German and widely respected DJ, is the link here for the release on KingUnderground. BeatPete is a friend of KU owner, Dan Englander, since they met on a tour in Berlin in 2015. BeatPete sent links to some music he was enthusiastic about to Dan and then KingUnderground reached out to Flug & Smuv. The two had never met but were fans of each other. From there it was quite straightforward. They have like-minded inspirations in music and they follow the same ethos:
music is for fun, not a consumable; any money they make from being creative is a reward. They each have their own distinctive style of cover art for all their solo projects and this time they worked with an Italian artist, “Heey Studio Design” for the “Fluo” EP illustration. It conveys the two of them, a cat (Smuv) sitting on a little island, chilling with a cocktail in the middle of an ocean and a dog (Flughand), flying an airplane up in the sky.

In celebration of the Persianate new year usually taking place on March 21st Afghan-German producer artist Farhot announces his follow up project “Nowroz 1401” which translates into “New Year 1401” – the number marking the year according to the solar calendar which is used in countries like Afghanistan and Iran. While Nowroz is being celebrated in several additional regions like Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan or Kirgizstan and partly also in Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Georgia and Turkey – this 3-Track EP pays tribute to Afghan contemporary artists like singer-songwriter Calid, London based Elaha Saroor and rapper Khan all while referencing the golden era of Afghan psychedelic pop most prominently represented by Ahmad Zahir samples – and with that marking this special release as a contribution to preserving Afghan culture and tradition while Afghanistan’s recent brutal occupation by the Taliban continue to threaten and erase Afghan artistic tradition. Further “Nowroz 1401” was born out of the urgent feeling to uphold and celebrate an essential tradition of Persianate cultures so that the following generations of diaspora children don’t lose access to their cultural heritage while not being able to live or visit their countries of origin, where such holidays are institutionalized and therefore experienced as a community festivity.

Hailing from within the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina comes Looming, a young beat-maker specializing in melancholic instrumental hip hop with a sound like lost memories. Looming's Different Views is a gorgeous four-track EP for Cold Busted, It's layered with ringing piano chords and restrained boom-bap rhythms suitable for the smoky lounge or chilled château. "Midnight Blue" begins with a lovely piano motif, soon joined by crisp, laid-back drums and hints of jazzy guitar. Next is "Zamioculcas," featuring a heart-tugging chord progression, echoey plucks, a deep bassline, and subtle strings for a cinematic touch. "Samu" lays on the dream feels, as delightful arpeggiations and winsome melodies drive the track alongside a sharp beat. The final track, "White Roof," brings jazz guitar to the forefront, accompanied by shimmering keys and tightly woven bass riffs.

Here we go with the flow. Another sharp shootin' 7" by pal Drunkenstein. One instrumental tune on da A and another great remix of the Bush Babees on the B. Perfect for all y'all boom bap heads out there.

Cold Busted and Polish beat-master Emapea come together to deliver a deft slab of seven-inch wax. Four tracks that slip and slide through a sonic village of tough rhythms and captured samples — that's Smuggling Town. Emapea goes 'meta' on the first track as "7 Inch" is a crafty ode to the beloved vinyl format over a boom-bap soundtrack. "True Fam" follows on a jazzier tip, as pianos, horns, and a drum loop march take on a laid-back vibe. Flip the wax for the title cut which feels suitably like a city street at night, covert hijinks in progress. The record closes with "Takeover," carefully raising the beat intensity as keys, flute hits, and an ominous atmosphere raid the stereo field.

Sim Nagai, the Belgian maven of sonic traveling, brings a Latin-influenced flair to the latest installment in Cold Busted's Jet Set series. Either by plane or the flight of the pelicans on the cover art, Nagai's Palm Dreams seeks to transport the listener to warmly resonating climes. "In Rotation" opens the EP with choppy electric piano chords that are soon joined by a strutting breakbeat and sunshine guitar riffs. Next up is the spacey "Cuban Delirium," adding drama to the release with vibrating key pads, flavorful percussion, and flashes of flamenco. The title cut imagines a bossa-getaway, as an angelic female voice croons over a crackling downtempo beat, celestial effects, and loungey guitar strums. The EP closes out with the beachy "Copacabana Sun," adding uptempo and uplifting instrumentation that sparkles over halftime rhythms.

Speiz Bois is a trio of three seasoned Hungarian musicians active in countless other projects (think of the already cult Jazzbois outfit) playing a unique fusion of hip-hop, spaced out psychedelic grooves and melancholic 80's guitar sounds. 'SpeizBanger' on side A is one of those timeless songs that are hard to be described, but we are pretty sure this is what an imaginary demo by random members of BadBadNotGood and Khruangbin, recorded in a smokey Budapest home studio would sound like. 'BreakBottle' on the flip starts off as a more conventional live groove until the ethereal synths and guitar harmonies come in, from then it sounds like the fictional demo described above. The single is limited to 300 copies.

Aru-2 is Japanese hip hop beatmaker who has been a prolific creator of works since he debuted from Oilworks Rec in 2013. He also known for his track making contributions for other MCs such as Issugi, C.O.S.A., JJJ, NF Zessho etc. Of these, his collaboration album with lee (asano+ryuhei) was picked up by Pitchfork and received a glowing review. In 2014, Aru-2 and KID Fresino, who is from Fla$hBacks and one of the most successful MCs in the decade released a joint album called Backward Decision For Kid Fresino. This EP features the most popular track "Keep Rollin'" in the album and B-side includes an unreleased instrumental track "Radio Frequency On Issugi" for the first time.

Following a project (Stormy Nights LP) that saw him recieve accolades from publications like XXL, websites like Okayplayer and Hip Hop legends old and new MentPlus decided to surprise us all with his latest offering. "A Spoonful" finds Ment expanding on the sounds he explored via Stormy Nights while still managing to sound fresh and vibrant.

Volume 001 is starting with the one and only Smoove from the UK. He joined Oonops for his shows on Brooklyn Radio several times as well as appeared on his last Resenses. Now he's back and opens this new series with two absolutely bangers: a beefed up Boogie monster of a stone cold Hip Hop classic plus a headnod version of it on the flip. Be quick!

Oonops's first encounter with Japanese producer Shin-Ski dates back six years when he asked him for an exclusive guest mix for his show on Brooklyn Radio. He became aware of him years ago through his group ShinSight Trio with Insight and DJ Ryow a.k.a. Smooth Current. After one more mix and two collaborations on his Resense-series plus »Oonops Drops - Vol.1« compilation via Agogo Records they started working together on a whole album of instrumentals.

For this 45 Oonops had the chance to dig through an amount of unreleased tracks and selected some of the essential essences with different influences from Jazz, Soul, Funk and much more.
