Elysian Fields is based on New York's legendary Knitting Factory, a haven for musical exploration and stylistic intermingling, home to the bustling Downtown scene of the 90's.
Closeted by a common love for the Beatles, Billie Holiday, Charles Mingus, Iggy Pop,
Siouxie and the Banshees, Captain Beefheart or Ravi Shankar, Frédéric Chopin ...
Jennifer Charles and Oren Bloedow - founders of the band – followed similar paths to Washinghton D.C and then to New York (where Jennifer took drama lessons):
both went to see Bad Brains and Lounge Lizards (for whom Oren played bass in the '90s), both loved Woody Allen and Fellini, both attended alternative schools, both became independent at a young age.
Most of these artists had an echo on Elysian Fields albums, a dazzling discography beginning in 1996 with two releases Radioactive / Universal (Elysian Fields and Bleed Your Cedar), continuing with releases at Jetset, Play it Again Sam, Naive, Diluvian and Vicious Circle.
New musical colors have emerged over the years, the Oren Bloedow palette enriching oneself (contribution of the piano in particular), and their attraction towards folk / world music developing.
Celebrating twenty years of music, the Brooklyn duo returns with their eleventh album,
PINK AIR, and shows that it has lost none of its extraordinary charm.
Album after album, Elysian Fields maintains the myth of a band like no other. The Creative Tension that the Oren Bloedow / Jennifer Charles duo is generating, is still as unique and powerful as ever. Elysian Fields is making a big comeback with this new album, with its decidedly more rock sound, reminiscent of the band's big albums (Bleed your Cedar-1996, Queen of the Meadow - 2000), probably the best recorded to date.
