Very arguably a “Best Of” the label, this selection highlights the work of Doug Carn, whose track “Higher Ground” ranks up there with all time greats in spiritual jazz, Cleveland Eaton, his 9+ minute funk chant “All Your Lover, All Day, All Night” would segue well with Sugarcane Harris, early EWF, or Funkadelic. End result is that most all aspects of the label are referenced here, the soul/jazz/funk spectrum playing like a radio show, which perhaps was the curator’s intent…
