Item Description
"The contribution of Miss Martha High to the development of soul music, though literally unique, has remained for many years in unjustifiable obscurity. She went faster from singing in the church to
leading the Bo-dettes, who harmonizing for the legendary Bo Diddley and ending as a personal background singer for Mr.Dynamite himself: Mr. James Brown. Backing and shadowing him for some like 37 years, Martha High was definitively the more lasting musical partner of the godfather of soul, who crowned her as the “Goddess Of Soul”. Consolidating her relationship with Blind Faith Records and the Italian producer Luca Sapio she is finally coming back with a new flashy album called “Nothing’s Going Wrong”.

Martha had and still having a stunning career in almost five decades of tantalizing disparate audience, no matter about the size of the venue or the number of viewers, from the Boston Garden to the smallest jazz club in town, from Tokyo to Kinshasa, whatever longitude or latitude they maybe, just name a stage and you bet that she burnt it, deserving the undisputed title of “hardest working woman of show business”.
About Nothing’s Going Wrong :
A singer who has “soul” can be said to have “sensitivity and heart and the ability to move the listener emotionally”. This feeling cannot be created with gimmicks or by means of special effect in a recording studio. Nor can it be taught to and learned by a performer, it is a distinguishing quality that is inborn in those who have it. You can feel it as soon as the first bars of the new exciting Martha High's album hits your heart.
Martha's voice taking a firm hold on your feelings and that's exactly what people called “soul” and this is what she's got. Miss Martha High never take a song for granted and on each original song, she does her own stylized, powerhouse interpretation. The impact is tremendous, you can hear the hurt and promise of better things to come, the thoughts and the hopes of a deep soul african american woman forced to leave the USA due to the toxic and dangerous politics of these days.
As Marvin Gaye, James Brown and Curtis Mayfield did in the past, Martha takes a stand and sings for the equality, the minority cultures in the belief and the knowledge that united “this too shall pass” and that things will indeed be good ... all in good time. That's what Martha and her music are all about: the indifferent earth and the long crawl between breaking day and darkening night.
On these beautiful and perfectly fitted to her voice songs, recorded, mixed, written and produced by Luca Sapio and played by his stellar crack teamwork known as “The Italian Royal Family”, Martha High sings in a way that goes past the ears and into the mind and the memory of the listener. Martha is a “depth” singer whose pop style, retains much of the dramatic simplicity and the plaintive pull off the old time spirituals in which her voice got her training. “Nothing's going wrong” the album, is a beginning and a summation.
It's a beginning because Martha and the Italian Royal Family are breaking away from the clichés, breathing new life in the contemporary soul music scene and it's a summation of all the gigs and the years they spent together as a tight team work. At various time it plunges into some very funky bluesy roots and soars with lushy horns arrangements that evokes the golden era of the italian movie soundtracks.
There is also a hidden gem that proudly shines through the songs, legendary Maestro Antonello Vannucchi (leader of the Marc 4 and key player behind thousands of iconic italian soundtracks), laid down a stellar Hammond B3 take on the melancholic ballad “I've still have a lot to learn”, sadly it wad his very last recording session before passing away. Every once in a while an album comes along, and this is one of them, that is beyond what is currently fashionable at any given time. It's the kind of set you know-by the way you feel-will never be dated. It's simply music, simply soul but most of all it's simply Martha High & The Italian Royal Family."
