60 years ago, Berry Gordy Jr. founded Tamla Records which became one of the most groundbreaking labels in history, Motown Records. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Motown, Carhartt WIP designed a capsule collection that pays homage to Detroit’s finest record label. The exclusive Motown x Carhartt WIP collection features imagery and graphics found in Motown’s archive and back-catalogue. You’ll find a nod to the cover art and promotional pictures that accompanied Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard it Through the Grapevine”, an homage to the legendary basement recording studio that would come to be known as “Hitsville, USA” as well as other aspects of Motown’s rich history, from the various sub-labels to the 1970 album “A Pocket Full of Miracles” by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles.
