Mr Eff Nostalgia Confessions

Mr Eff returns on BWR with his newest release, the heavy and atmospheric Nostalgia Confessions. Mr Eff looks inward and makes a work filled with big questions and existential pondering. It’s an album built on emotional heaviness, the need to not obsess over the past, while still being very much concerned about the future.

While still retaining the movement and rhythm of Eyes Down, Nostalgia Confessions feels very much locked into a more singular vision; a personal, internal monologue about letting go of the past so we can figure out what’s waiting in the future. Or at the very least, freeing some space in our head so that we can ponder what to do with the time left.

It’s an album of electronic tomes dedicated to making sense of a world seemingly falling apart in front of our eyes.

Songs like “Confess” lock into visceral rhythms and the frantic pace of club music, but with a heavy lean on something dark just around the corner. Dying Batteries” has an 80s electro pop lean, bringing to mind the lighter moments of Mr Eff’s Eyes Down.

But at the heart of this record are big questions about coming to terms with who we are, what made us, and our ultimate undoing. Trying to let go of the past, or that idealized version of it we hold in foggy memories. Songs like “Try To Forget”, “Uncanny Valley”, and “Natural” make use of space, melody, and a melancholic mood that give us a side of Mr Eff we haven’t yet heard. Songs for pondering a world seemingly spinning out of its orbit.

Mr Eff is asking big questions on Nostalgia Confessions. While we may never find the answers, we have a soundtrack to at least ponder them.
