Nothing better than a couple of works to see the light after summer holidays. So welcome back to you all guys with this one-two from Kentucky that has all the features of a typical Cannonball project. I’m not using the “one-two” metaphore just because I like it but because it simply fits the purpose. Infact, like in all the major team sports, one-two it’s when a player places a perfect assist so a teammate can score a goal or a slam dunk. And thats whats happening with Ronald Lewis and all his production team whose members are worth a mention for being involved from start to finish in the authorship of these 2 tracks. They rounded up, wrote the tracks, booked a couple of studio days in Derbytown, baked a pair of rough versions each and sent them over to our studios to get the final arranging treatment. CBLL023A “Are You Serious” is a great rhythmic song with plenty of semiacoustics, on whose final bars lead singer Ron entertainined himself naming me and Dave in some sort of funny talking, while CBLL023B “Just Another From My Past” combines uplifting horns with some great instinctive snare fills, laying on a funk dance bassline which drives it all the way through the end. Horns crescendos, drums stop-and-gos and a lovely conga groove are there to back some great lyrics which will make you smile and dance altogether. As Ronal Lewis said to me “most people think Kentucky is only Bluegrass & Country music, but let me now give you what we call The Soulful Sounds of Derbytown”. So well done to Mr’s Lewis, Graham, Lovely, Sutton, Conley, Lawler, Wilson and Frey, we are proud to work together with you once again, keep ‘em coming!
