Item Description
Sezen Aksu-Firuze Firuze is a coming of an age album released in 1984. Till that time Turkish Popular Music fully depended on a western type of music with a certain amount of Turkish influence. On the other hand there was a parallel popular music called arabesque which was an eclectic stuff of Arab, Byzantine and Turkish music flirting with western scales. The title track Firuze which was composed and arranged by famous musician and multi-instrumentalist Attila Özdemiroğlu was a revolutionary song which made a fusion of two parallel popular music genres of Turkey. In an objective sense this track and the album was the pioneer of the popular music boom of Turkey that took place in 1990s. Today a typical Turkish pop music is a fusion of arabesque, Andalusian and Turkish elements with basic western harmonies. The album has also a track of Orhan Gencebay called Zelzele (earthquake) which was first performed in this LP by Sezen Aksu and later recorded by Gencebay in a best of album in early 2000s.
