Behind this malleable moniker we find Christian Rye Hougaard – an Aarhus-based producer whose ambient artistry has been introduced to the world under a multitude of guises such as Space Program, CR Hougaard and Forvarsel. ‘Multi Terrain’ is his vinyl debut and his second release at Infinite Waves, who also issued the cassette ‘Standard Operating Procedures’ (IW-49) in early 2016. ‘Multi Terrain’ is in many ways the preliminary culmination of Hougaard’s experiments with the meet-up of ambient textures and electronic beats. Contrasts are evident and abundant – from the title’s military dichotomy to the music’s organic, almost freeform amalgamation of atmospheric field recordings and mechanical, IDM-inflected rhythms, leaving the four-to-the-floor just there, dropped on the floor.
