Someguy City State

City State’ is the first EP on the newly founded Brussels based label Someguy Records, the brainchild of political journalist Gijs Ramboer, aka Someguy.
Dance rhythms feature throughout this EP, but ‘City State’ is so much more than just another dance record. Orbiting around a hypnotizing vocal sample and adding snippets of failed Zoom Meeting audio, the title track is a perfect reflection of the claustrophobia that the numerous lockdowns of 2020 brought upon us. A feeling that is carried out throughout the EP. An EP that meanders from ambient to techno, from house to IDM, culminating in a powerful remix by Different Fountains (Meakusma, Shubabka, ...), lifting - as they always do - dance music to a whole different level.

Someguy and Different Fountains

Someguy is the alter ego of Gijs Ramboer. who spent the best part of two decades working as a political journalist for Belgian's national public broadcaster VRT. But his first love is and has always been music. As a dj and producer he looks at the left side of electronic music, being heavily influenced by labels such as Perlon, Meakusma, Workshop and the likes. With his first record on his self-imprinted label, he aims to follow in those footsteps, blending together the best elements of techno, house, dub and pop music history.

Someguy Records is honoured to have Different Fountains on the remix duties. The musical union of Austrian Michael Langeder and Venezolan Bernardo Risquez has already lead to critically acclaimed releases on Meakusma, Shubabka and their own outlet Different Fountains Editions, creating a unique fusion of house, ambient, pop and avantgarde. Different Fountains stands for gentle agitation, portraying an imaginary future where cultural categories shift into oblivion. Different Fountains never disappoint, and with their take on Someguy’s ‘City State’, deliver again, lifting the dancefloor track to a different level.
