Mysterious hardware tinkerer Stephan ‘STL’ Laubner is back with a 3 track + locked groove EP on the London based imprint Mutual Friend Recordings entitled Listen Up! Mind Puzzlin is exactly that with a luscious lead line that will twist your head accomponied by STL’s signature rough and overdriven percussion. Smile Function has a more ominous tone with repeated guitar plucks that plant themselves into your consciousness. STL builds the groove expertly whilst retaining an other-worldly feel to the track. Wrong is a real groover with a growling bassline accomponied by weird and wonderful interwoven patterns coaxed out of STL’s synths. The locked groove, titled Listen Up! Loop is a nice bonus for the more adventurous DJ out there.
