When Shaman Elephant's debut album "Crystals" hit the streets in late 2016, Prog fans sat up and took notice of a band that was able to demonstrate an uncanny skill in the art of blending 60s and 70s psychedelia with progressive rock, and who sounded impressive not just in the studio, but also on stage - as fans who witnessed their shows in Norway and Europe are able to attest. And now, after honing those skills even further, Shaman Elephant are back with "Wide Awake but Still Asleep", an album that demonstrates just how much the band has matured as songwriters and musicians, whilst not losing any of that considerable Shaman Elephant charm. As the band says themselves: “With this album we feel like we have found out who we want to be as a band. Whilst the first album was going in all directions, this album feels more focused and mature. “Wide Awake but Still Asleep” is our attempt at making the melodies move like butterflies while the grooves sting like killer bees.” With yet another killer production from Iver Sandøy (drummer of Enslaved) at Solslottet Studio, with “Wide Awake but Still Asleep” Shaman Elephant has produced one hell of a follow up album.

“Flying Colours” is the fifth album from the legendary Norwegian prog/jazz rock band Ruphus, originally released in 1978. After living in Germany for a while, the band had developed a dedicated following there. In fact, they did so much touring in Continental Europe, to the extent that many Norwegian record buyers thought that Ruphus was a German band! The line-up on “Flying Colours” was the same as on its predecessor “Inner Voice”: Kjell Larsen (guitar), Asle Nilsen (bass), Sylvi Lillegaard (vocals), Thor Bendiksen (drums) and Jan Simonsen (keyboards). Once again, the album was recorded in Rosenborg Studios, engineered by Hans Petter Danielsen. “Inner Voice” is the fifth in a series of Ruphus re-issues from Karisma Records, remastered by Jacob Holm-Lupo (White Willow, The Opium Cartel, etc).

When Ruphus’ fourth album “Inner Voice” was released in 1977, the Norwegian band had relocated to Germany, hot on the heels of the previous album “Let Your Light Shine” which had massive success there. Once again, the album was produced by the legendary Terje Rypdal, and the new members, Sylvi Lillegaars (vocals) and Jan Simonsen (keyboards), injected the band with more fresh blood and musical influences. “Inner Voice” cemented their reputation as a leading band in European Jazz Rock, and they were based in Germany for quite some time afterwards. They did extensive touring around Europe, and they released two more albums (“Flying Colours” and “Manmade”, soon to be re-released as well) before disbanding. “Inner Voice” is the fourth in a series of Ruphus re-issues from Karisma Records, remastered by Jacob Holm-Lupo (White Willow, The Opium Cartel, etc).

Ameneon

Release:2020 / EU – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
Released 1993 on CD only. Ameneon is the second album from legendary Norwegian rock band Seigmen. Originally released in 1992, this was lightyears away from what most Norwegian rock bands were doing. The band themselves called their music “Massive Plutonic Gothcore”, a description that still seems fitting for this album. Originally slated for self-release, Ameneon was quickly snapped up by Sony Music Norway after they heard the massive track Mesusah on a compilation CD – a song that is still essential to any Seigmen concert to this day. Seigmen created their own niche, with doomy and grungy riffs, adventures, soul searching and lyrics about symbolism, philosophy and religion – and they quickly became Norway’s biggest alternative rock band.

Leker For Barn, Ritualer For Voksne
LP | 2019 | EU | Original (Karisma)

Release:2019 / EU – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
The collegium of dashing adventurers and explorers of the unknown reaches of history, known to the unwashed masses under the pseudonym TUSMØRKE, have yet again brought fresh fever from the stars. With no small risk to their very lives, they have investigated the Mesopotamian idolatry that hid beneath what we, in our innocence, thought were simple songs and verses concerned with harmless folklore and creatures of fantasy. Concealed by a veil of ignorance, these ritualistic rhymes and summoning songs show themselves as portals to blissful and terrible realms. Astral worlds and delirious peaks tread forth from the inner places of mankind, and thus exert their power over the reality we share in our waking hours. Our rhymes, riddles and games for children contain ancient elements. Could one find traces of past religious rituals in them? Seemingly innocent texts gain a more foreboding aspect when viewed in light of the human sacrifices, spiritual journeys and ecstatic trance rituals of Europe in times past. Cultural traits that are today associated with exotic voodoo rituals, Buddhism or cannibalistic head hunters of New Guinea were once widespread among our Celtic and Germanic tribes. This album is based on two musicals for children, "The Bridge to the other Side" and "The Root of all Evil", which partly consists of Tusmørke’s take on traditional Norwegian chrildren songs, and partly of new compositions. Not everyone who took part in the plays completely understood what they were doing. Not everyone in the audience, either. But here it is, in all its gory glory – preserved for eternity on both CD and two different vinyl versions. All formats come with a 16 page lyric booklet - which may, or may not, explain the plot.

From the rugged, rain-swept coastline of Bjoergvin, enclosed within the looming embrace of seven mountains, emerges the seventh full-length album from Taake, rising from the gloom like the beacon of traditional black metal. It is fresh, yet traditional in spirit. It is familiar to the ear, yet unexpectedly proceeds to wind its sinuous and unpredictable way through a soundscape that only a mother could love.
