A Grave With No Name, the recording project of London’s Alexander Shields, is extremely pleased to announce his latest LP Feathers Wet, Under The Moon. The follow up to 2013’s Whirlpool, which happened to also be Shields’ first foray into a recording studio, eschewing the bedroom recordings of his previous releases, Feathers Wet, Under The Moon sees him return to a studio, this time trading the foggy confines of London for the rolling hills of Nashville, TN. The approach to recording on Feathers Wet, Under The Moon was an entirely new method of recording for Shields. In the past, he had been used to writing every note of each song, and then would perform and record everything himself, or carefully instruct the players how he wanted it to sound. For this record, he presented the bare bones of a song to the group, then MARK would hit the record button, and they would just play, often creating the arrangements on the fly. The resulting record however is an exercise in precision restraint that belies its creation. With slowly unfolding melodies, atypical song structures, and a sense of meandering melancholy, Feathers Wet, Under The Moon takes us on a personal journey that somehow feels universal.

Weed formed in 2010 when Will Anderson and Kevin Doherty reconvened on a clothing-optional beach in Vancouver. A couple weekend trips to Washington were made, a 7" single was cut, a couple screwballs tightened up. In 2011 they played a benefit for the UBC campus radio station, where Hugo Noriega provided the band with doughnuts. He was quickly recruited and the three have been together ever since. They have aggravated one million drummers in the meantime. In September 2013 the band released an LP of sentimental dream-grunge called Deserve on Seattle's Couple Skate Records and started doing laps around the continent, silencing the critics (literally, in some cases) and stirring up a loyal fanbase lovingly referred to as the Field Trippers. This new 7-inch is a continuation of the blown out pop-slop seen on Deserve.

A conscious move away from the bright-dark, ambient maximalism of Ashes Grammar, & a move towards a post-millennial, up-front pop sound.

Recorded to tape in their home-built studio in Montreal between tours across Canada, Europe and the U.S., Being Elastic is a document of a band always trying to move further out in terms of songwriting and production. Initial recordings were shelved in favor of starting over, as new songs piled up and intra-band shreddery intensified. The restless energy that defines their work habits shows up everywhere in their music. The songs have a solid foundation in avantrock-pop traditions but are thwarted from sounding like any kind of reverent tribute to what's come before by being adventurous and exploratory. Surprise breaks, abrupt left-turns, tangled riffage, sidelong-glancing lyrics and Space Echo murk all punctuate the full-throated harmonies, artful melody and bright, ringing tone that makes up the core of these songs. At every turn, this is a record that sounds forward-looking but not futuristic, meticulously constructed but not formulaic or predictable. It's the sound of three people working hard on their own terms, without a promo budget or obnoxious social media hustling, to make a record that speaks for itself.
