Our first adventure with Makèz concludes with Levitation, the sequel to Elevation, their first EP for LPH, which we released on Valentine's Day this year. With this five-tracker, the slinky funk is back, but now it has an added layer of sensual, late-night, richly-detailed disco that slowly heats up over the course of the flight.

What was it Dorothy said? A few months back, we released Westcoast Goddess' LPH debut, The Inner Snoopy, a classic house EP reincarnated as one of those giant rainbow-colored lollipops. And that really wasn't enough, so now we have a second four-tracker from the guy, a continuation of the technicolor adventure through nightclubs in the Kingdom of Caring. Pop it on and feel the sugar rush, feel your pupils dilate, feel your heart race and swell with joy.

A feisty and sassy slab of funky house from Amsterdam upstarts Makez, Elevation is twirl of saucy tracks with a toothy demeanor that will charm you onto the dance floor. The special sauce here comes from a musicality that's studied but not too clean and a bright instrumentation that evokes the golden years of Metro Area.

As summer sets into fall, we deliver an EP that functions like one of those lights-on hand-clappers you get when the DJ's been asked to kill the music at the end of a long, sweaty night—but for the season. It's a last-ditch effort to keep the sun shining and the temperature high, a final bid to keep the days starting early and ending late. We know the inevitable is around the corner, but for a moment more we can pretend it's not.

Before this illness was but a blip on the radar, before this epidemic became pandemic, we were looking forward to sharing this LP, Pacific Coliseum's How's Life, with you because, simply, it is a joy, but now it's taken on new, prescient dimensionality, and we're looking forward to it even more.

“I Do It,” the A1, is a 90s R&B jam—imagine Aaliyah—recontextualized into an acid-flecked big-room chugger. “Do It,” which follows, starts on the same foot, but strips the vox and charges straight into business, upping the BPM a smidge along the way. Then, “B3,” a nimble, electric ditty that fits its percussion squarely at the front and center of the mix, making it into a subversively deadly drum track. Rounding out the record is Baltra's version of “B3,” which takes the essence of the original and wraps it tight in atmospheric wigginess. It's a head-spinner and gives the EP a slightly psychedelic conclusion.

Imagine a Kerri Chandler track anthropomorphized, then jammed into a Japanese purikura photo booth for a series of bedazzled, glittered, and airbrushed headshots. Imagine that image set to music. What do you hear? Westcoast Goddess' The Inner Snoopy, a frenetic house workout that is puzzlingly contemporary, classic, and alien.

As we descend into winter and the end of 2019, an EP that, like the shorter, overcast days, is chilly and stark, yet accented with rays of sun that crack through the clouds, glints of starlight, full-moon rises.

Emil Sunesson, a producer from Malmö, makes his debut on LPH with a buoyant six-track album that's got the fluffy, airy body of cotton candy and the electric crackle of neon lights. Funky house and disco toe-tappers built around jazzy drums, jangly African guitars, goopy keyboard vamps. They zip along at a brisk pace yet feel cozy and warm, a morning jog through a forested park just before the leaves turn, the low golden rays of sun stretching your shadow out like chewing gum.

Following Jacques Renault’s sophomore album, BKClubBeats, Breaks & Versions, which we dropped in July, is a sort of addendum, epilogue, encore. As you’ll recall,we released a cassette edition of the LP that was all ten tracks laced together,eighties/nineties mixtape-style, and topped off with five bonus tunes. What we present you with here is that extra material etched into vinyl for easier club use and personal playback.

Three years ago, a long-overdue and much-anticipated debut album from Let's Play House co-head Jacques Renault finally hit shelves, and now, the follow-up effort, the sophomore swing, arrives. If Zentrum was a sprawling and aspirant full-length, BK Club Beats, Breaks & Versions is an exacting and focused rejoinder, a powerful, punchy, and succinct exposition of Renault's skills and fortes. It's a deep-dive into the movements that sucked him into club music and a celebration of the inspirations that fueled his ascendance to DJ and producer in his own right.

Our Canadian brother is popping his LPH cherry with Risk the Rip, a four-track journey through the bouncy, beachy, wavy house boogies the guy's become notorious for. Club jams at heart that have been wrapped up in gooey layers of laid-back, ethereal pads and tied off with smatterings of punchy percussion. A soundtrack for at-home relaxation masquerading as nightclub fodder—or vice versa!

We talked a ton about LPH co-owner and -founder Jacques Renault's debut LP, Zentrum, so let's keep things brief and cut to the chase for Off Zentrum, the first remix EP to be spun off from that record.
Four remixes, all by LPH family members, all burners. First one's by Borrowed Identity, second one's by Nicholas, third on's by Massimiliano Pagliara, fourth one's by Max McFerren. How multicultural! That's two continents and four countries represented! Hot dog!

We finished 2015 with a six-track jumbo EP from Borrowed Identity and thought we'd repeat the same trick for 2016, though this time with originals from Okayama-based producer Keita Sano.
EYE begins with “Keep an Eye Out, Pt. 2,” a propulsive song that sounds like a lost contender for the Knight Rider theme. “Own Signal” keeps things dark, but with a spartan bleakness. The side finishes with “Smoker,” another manic cut that'll give you chills.
The flip finds Keita exploring brighter sounds without losing that industrial, jagged edge. “TRMK” is essentially a beat track that'll ignite any dance floor and “Fix” is a herky-jerky ditty that'll get you stomping around the club like a possessed reveler. The 12”'s cherry on top is “Think Twice,” a funky ass-shaker that centers around a crackly sample of crowd noise, a chopped-up disco vocal, and bouncy bass. A fiery finale for this hedonistic party.
