Narciss' latest EP for Lobster Theremin, Dear Diary, is an emotionally charged journey through smoked-filled rooms and packed-out corridors; lasers, strobes and wide eyes. As much a throwback to the golden era of trance as it is an ode to the producers techno aesthetic, it encapsulates an energy release - an escape from the grimness of the mundane, the fear of contemporary society left at the door as we venture further front left.

‘Ludmilla’ gets things started; a cut of tranced-out, progressive techno that builds and builds, emotional vocal stabs (“I need you”) further enhancing the connection between body and mind, listener and selector. ‘Tall People’ follows a similar route - deeper into the trance revival that has seen various contemporary artists producing some timelessly similar euphoria - it’s scenic techno, if the scene was an anime figure racing across a field on horseback.

The steady 4x4 rhythms are replaced on ‘It Gets Easier’; fast-paced sentiment that floats somewhere between breaks and garage, wrapped up in that signature trancey texture, before the Ikki Mel featuring ‘Blicke’ shows us the door with a completely different take on the previous three moods; this time offering up an altogether harder showcasing of the rave sound with its classic synth stabs and uncompromising kicks.

Budapest producer Route 8’s long-awaiting debut full release almost didn’t happen. The original album was lost when the producer – and the Lobster Theremin crew – had all their belongings stolen in Detroit, whilst on their first tour of the United States a few years ago. The Motor City has had a significant influence on the labels output; piecing together new and exciting sounds that float over the sonic history of America's great manufacturing cities - Detroit and Chicago. Annoyed, but determined not to let an album concept so close to heart go to waste, Route 8 began re-piecing the record back together. Rewind The Days Of Youth (releasing on Lobster Theremin) is inspired by Szilveszter Horváth’s artist alias, which borrows its name from the highway in Hungary that the producer regularly cruises down to visit his grandmother. The aesthetic is just that: cruising music. Themed around a journey from the ambient launch of ‘Departure’ to the down-tempo buoyance of ‘Arrival, the entire record gives off big ‘cruising down the highway’ energy as we float between glitched-out IDM, bass-heavy minimal house rhythms and emotionally uplifting synth work that incites a real sense of nostalgia and images of a distant sunset turning everything it touches to deep orange.

Genre:Electronic / Dance
Elusive dutch DJ and producer, nthng, announces his second album ‘Hypnotherapy’ on Lobster Theremin. Previously putting out records on his own label Transatlantic, plus the likes of Delsin, Lobster Theremin and Mörk, this thoughtful long play spans dub techno and hazy ambient, traversing through different moods. Float away with bright and airy opener, ‘50 Flower’. Spoken word samples intercept the ambience, bringing the listener down from the clouds. A2’s ‘I Just Am’ takes the EP into dub techno dancefloor territory with bolshy, rattling percussion and assertive vocals. ‘Heitt’ is a pacy slice of machine music for the wee hours, before drifting back to softness with barely-there ‘Beautiful Love’. ‘Wave Return’ injects a dose of wigged out energy, slowly evolving from drawn out dub into an effervescent jam. ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ rolls gently - a prime slice of chunky, driving electronica. nthng’s title track, ‘Hypnotherapy’, see’s the producer return to the ambient fringes of moody techno, barely-there kicks, and shimmering pads. Rounding out the album, weightless ‘With You’ is a romantic post club track, soft, longing vocals sit upon almost bird-like sounds. Digi only bonus, ‘And Then There Was Light’ is nthng’s most ethereal offering yet.

La Fraicheur is a name that has been garnering increasing attention across the techno scene for the past decade and now she brings her well-refined, driving techno to Lobster Theremin. The stuttering bass line and driving percussion of La Fin Du Debut immediately lurs us in while Garbage is a pensive, stripped out roller lined with existential affirmations. The pumping arpeggios of Renouveau open up the flip while the glacial melodies of Freezing close out the record with a welcome jolt to the system. This record is a masterclass in driving techno which is as hypnotic as it is reflective.

Having played in several major club capitals in Europe - and having become at ease with the production of many genres: from straight forward techno, nostalgic trancy sounds, electro-break-your-neck beats, to old-school stomping grooves - Chlär readies his Lobster Theremin debut; a devastating four-tracker that’s as raw and uncompromising as the free parties from which it was spawned.

‘Forgot To Dream’ kicks the trance revival into full swing; an emotional party track brimming with euphoric ‘hands in the air’ moments - unting the worlds of hard dance and fun, no frills cheese that results in a deadly blend. ‘We Will Bring It Back’ is a little more pertinacious as we see those hands turn to fists, banging a metaphorical drum as frenzied rave samples and kicks as hard as concrete dominate.

‘Double Dose’ sounds like something Sarumans Orc army would march to if electronic music was the order of the day in the Lotr universe; bruising kicks, alien atmospherics and glitchy techno inciting a mass frenzy before ‘Long Time No See takes us on a deep voyage direct to the underworld with a cut of typically loud and bloodcurdling rave.

Club Culture is a heady tribute to UK rave culture, combining classic breaks with a monologue from generations past. Denham Audio speed things up on Retort, fusing their love of breakbeats with a sound palette ubiquitous with acid house. On the flip, patois bars punctuate the bleeps-and-breaks of Run Da Ting, while the vocal layered between Top Boy’s whirling bass and digitally distorted drum programming may be recognisable to some. Closing track Transcendence is an ethereal jungle roller with guest vocals from 7ip703, that rings true to its name.

Steve Murphy returns to Lobster Theremin for his debut solo album, curdling a molten mixture of metallic tones and stomping rhythms all culled from the electro, new wave, EBM and italo worlds. Cold wave spoken word vocals shimmer, holla and wail from the depths of an 80's basement studio (Connessione Europa, Digital Fix Today); stomping italo rhythms take off with a flourish and wash, as they're bound onto the surface of poly synth dreams (Space Train, Mira Electronics); bastardised modular squelches and blips reveal a hidden underground lab (Ray Gun); modem-bleeping electro machine-worx and on-the-run basslines from 2125 (Disappointed, The Truth, Again); the end, when it comes, is a slow play-em-off jam. An italo electro elevator them tune gently carrying us up to a formerly erased dystopian level of this monolithic brutalist cuboid.

Following a killer trance-electro workout while on remixing duties for Not Gonna Get Us duo t.A.T.u - and releases on FTP, Mechatronica and Dark Net - Tbilisi, Georgia artist Salome prepares her Lobster Theremin debut with four massive cuts of dark, rhythmic energy.

‘Stalker’ presses play with a cut of dystopian electro; sent spinning through a world much darker than our own, it's what Boba Fett would play through his helmet speakers when on a bounty hunting mission - sci-fi led electronica that packs a punch. Time-warped trance and a high velocity, psychedelic workout takes us into hyper-drive on ‘Misbehaviour’, before ‘Doppleganger’ plummets us deep into the earth's subterranean with a cut of melting, dungeon electro.

‘Terror’ rounds the original masters off with a broken-techno aesthetic; screeching at breakneck speed through ravey hardcore stabs and pounding energy. The remix comes courtesy of Jenson Interceptor, and is every bit as good as you would expect from the face of contemporary electro: uncompromising in-your-face.

Also available via digital purchases only is ‘crave’; a collaborative track made with Alien Boogie commander Volruptus.

False Witness doesn’t care much for escapism. Learning to DJ in their 20’s, the Brooklyn born / Berlin based producer was introduced to Nina Simone and a certain quote would become the foundation of their sonic point-of-view: “an artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times.”

‘Life Can Be Cruel’ - is as blunt as the title would suggest; clashing melodic and industrial rhythms creating a sense of big room, rolling largeness. ‘Onlyfans’ follows closely behind through the pitch-black corridors with maximalist, camp energy that feels like an aggressive ownership taking of outdated, sweeping generalisations relating to sex workers, given the relentlessness of the track and its title.

‘Bossa Bathrooms’ further compliments the hard dance appeal, its red-dot sighted lasers swarming the seemingly infinite black walls as we slip slowly towards maximum overload, while False Witnesses ode to the city he calls home - ‘nynynynynyny’ strays down a lower BPM route, instead focusing on chugging, hypnotising synth-lines and large, controlled noise that sounds like it came straight from the pen of a chaos composer.

Accompanying the record is a digital only track from False Witness (‘Terpsichora’, named after a Japanese mango created by Ryoko Yamagashi) and a remix from Berlin based, Mala Junta resident D.Dan, which gives ‘Life Can Be Cruel’ a renewed sense of identity, with its breaksy steps, MSN Messenger-like samples and high velocity euphoria.

As sunny days reappear and bright flashes of optimism reverberate around the globe, along comes London based producer Kempston Hardwick with a killer five track garage-house release on Lobster Theremin that is crying out to be played in the park over some beers. The early evening groove of ‘Mowbray Street’ bounces into the frame with its playful melodies and sunny aesthetic; bopping and swaying in the fading sunlight. The oxymoronic patterns of harsh and melodic clash on ‘Channel’ as day turns to night; jackin’ rhythms and repetitive pads that create a real sense of inner-groove. Big breaks and carnival flavour are the orders of the day on ‘Provoke Iddy’ as Kempston flexes his versatility, before arriving at ‘Have You Stopped It’ - a wobbling melter that takes the very best of contemporary bassline and blends it with the fun energy of the transatlantic Vancouver and Montreal crews for some proper euphoric screwface moments. Wrapping things up is the electro-laced 2-step of ‘Apologies to 25’ - a cut of distorted garage beamed from disco robots on a not-so-distant galaxy. Kempston Hardwick’s Mowbray Street EP might be the artist's most complete work yet, and it couldn’t be arriving at a better moment.

After releasing one of Lobster Theremin's biggest EPs in the shape of 'Rules', we're please to finally see Panthera Krause back in the Lobster den with a trippy, head-spinning white label of lucid house and acid. Drawing from a spectrum of electronic-island tropes blended with early 90's rave, Krause develops the chunky MPC-led sound of that first EP by adding layers of shimmer synth work, clanging piano samples, intergalactic acid processing and proper brain-churning drones from beyond the purple sea.

Lobster Theremin finally welcome back one of the original LT fam, with Imre Kiss taking the reigns for a full on raw-power white label. With two lucid and hazy releases for LT in his wake, plus an excellent contribution to the Proto Sites catalogue, Imre finally returns with a rough and overdriven in-the-dance EP of floor-crushing fire.

Drifting as a snow-smattered cloud from The North, breathing icy winds crackling with the splinters of crystal water and effervescent dust, Hedge Maze returns to the Lobster Theremin fold with four gently glowing tracks-from-the-hut that span crunchy house, hotel elevator ambient, deep-sea techno and skittering percussive drone.

Steve Murphy presents his new acid and industrial-tinged techno project, The Night Flyer, on Lobster Theremin's cryptic black label imprint. A fear-addled chill seething down the spine and a machine-grinding, acid terror-bird emerging from the deep night, The Night Flyer is an expectedly dark take on the seedier end of technoid nightmares, while hanging a distinctly cold (wave?) atmosphere over cobbled, crushed analogue structures.

Taking a more shuffle-heavy Detroit-leaning mentality for this EP, but still retaining that tape-crusted edge, Snow Bone explores more of his heaving, modular-esque Detroit-inspired sound, as well as more stripped back rollers. Boulder-crushing kicks and bass reign, all grated over with scattered modem bleeps and trashed up hats!
