Monochord - Spatial Stereo
Spatial Stereo
12" | 2016 | EU | Original (Meakusma)
9,99 €*
Release:2016 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Monochord are Vienna-based musicians Bernhard Hammer and Jakob Schneidewind, two thirds of Elektro Guzzi, though Monochord paints a different picture. Electroacoustic experiments and filmic elements define the music that develops instinctively yet irrevocably, a sense of forward motion setting them apart. Compositionally minimal, these tracks maximize their inherent potential all the way through to their logical and even illogical end. Referencing electronica, ambient, shoegaze and at times modern classical harmonics, Monochord builds and unbuilds in a slow heartbeat. Introspective and filmic, its quiet and non-confrontational nature makes Monochord move in the interzone between various spheres. Their music escapes definition and that is its truest definition. Its subtle pulse and evocative and drony feel invite and inspire.
Viola Klein - Exchange

Release:2017 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Viola Klein is the house music 'auteur' behind two beautiful and contemplative house music records on her own Viola Klein imprint. Her Bring Your Ass parties in Cologne have long been some of the most interesting and informed celebrations of house music the city has to offer. On her first outing for meakusma, Klein collaborates with musicians from Senegal and Detroit to produce two tracks centered around Senegalese percussion, spun into gentle and informed club music hypnosis. Klein works as a film editor, DJ and writer. Her origins are in jazz theory which she combines with a filmmaker's perception. The two tracks on Exchange dwell in repetition and subtle confrontation. Typical of her work, they are explorations of the social force inherent in house music. While a Senegalese sabar master is passing his sabar knowledge to his sons, Family Diop responds with drums to Whodat's alternative house music of Detroit. An exchange between Senegal and the USA, nourished by the voices of Ndongo Samba Sylla, political writer from Dakar and Kim Sherobbi, member of James and Grace Lee Boggs movement Detroit. Tone incorporates all unsaid as orientation is embodied in sound. Bringing her body to Senegal and the USA, Viola Klein is arranging this release named Exchange. Whodat is a Detroiter. The beats of Whodat lay the musical foundation for the Family Diop's sabar. The Senegalese griot family keeps the everyday tradition of sabar alive through programs in Saint-Louis' high schools; it's fresh when everyone is responding to one another on street corners and on patios. Ndongo Samba Sylla is a Senegalese development economist and a francophone Scrabble world champion. In Dakar, he equips environments for the youth. Sylla has written about social movements in West Africa as well as the definition of democracy. Kim Sherobbi is an ex-basketball player and educator at James and Grace Lee Boggs school in Detroit, where she teaches children how to be serene when things change.
Giraffe - Juni

Release:2016 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Juni is the first joint release by Charly Schoeppner and Sascha Demand, two seasoned veterans of experimental and improvisational music. They call themselves Giraffe. Their longstanding friendship has now propelled them into making Juni. Juni contains 11 short pieces that effortlessly flow in and out of each other. Intuitive, yet controlled, subdued, yet at times nervously ritualistic, percussive elements drive the tracks with melodic and harmonic impulses weaved around them. The record references abstract jazz and contemporary experimental music. It is an original snapshot of what makes contemporary experimental music tick.
Lord Tang - Butterflies
Lord Tang
LP | 2016 | EU | Original (Meakusma)

Release:2016 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Butterflies is Lord Tang's second full length release. It is a warm descent into a dub fueled frenzy of color and light. It is a sound dredged from the depths of Jamaican dub and spun into a new form that incorporates the many influences on Lord Tang's creator, Dominic Cramp: soundtracks, library music, vintage science fiction, broken beats, dirty electronics, modular electronic music, abstract tone clouds. Lord Tang follows its own path through the thicket of modern electronic music. There is a certain level of physical alchemy to the process. The record was made in Cramp's former studio in an old cabinet making factory in Oakland, California. You hear this in the sound! Beats in particular are processed several times through various hardware pedal chains, as can be heard on "Winged Paulsy" giving it a grittier, heavy density. Cramp also utilizes a lot of found sounds and field recordings such as the processed grab of the BART transit band radio on "Don't Tell Me What to Do" or the Oakland Flea Market vendor at the beginning of "Sparkle Toast". Mixing these elements with his arsenal of old analog outboard gear: spring reverbs, tape delays, reel to reel, analog filters; gives the whole record a tangible sonic depth with organic glue that keeps you in Tang's warm and dirty world!
Bryce Hackford - Behind
Bryce Hackford
2x12" | 2015 | EU | Original (Meakusma)
15,99 €*
Release:2015 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Artist, producer and DJ Bryce Hackford will release on November 9th 2015 the nine-track album Behind, his second full length since 2013's Fair, and his first for Meakusma. Behind is an expansive collection for Hackford, who draws from experimental, process-oriented composition techniques to create sensorially engaging dance music. An ethos of presence, enrichment and dissociation pervades Behind - by stripping away the constructed-ness of so much dance music, Hackford allows himself to produce music that is as much a joy to create as it is to share. An ambassador of "ecstatic states" as he calls them, Hackford's music suggests heightened temporal zones may be ubiquitous if you allow them to be. Behind is a proposition of such ecstatic states, its music pulsing vitally at opposite ends of the BPM spectrum. Distinctly unmotivated by polemic dialogues around dance music, Behind seeks a more soluble musical space for unmitigated engagement. It is music inspired by transitions, no less vital before sunset as it is after the curtain call.

Following up on "Like Comment," last year's excellent full-length by Georgia released on Meakusma, we are happy to present an eclectic and gently schizophrenic remix package, entitled "Like Comment Comments." The 12" features contributions by Bryce Hackford (Prah/DFA), Matt Werth (RVNG Intl.), Afrikan Sciences (DeepBlak/PAN) and Thomas Bullock (Rub-N-Tug), plus two new tracks by Georgia that further develop their informed hypnagogic ambient-pop tendencies. Bryce Hackfod takes Nu-Way Heat into subtle club music territory, conjuring up a distinct, varied and mesmerizing house track that builds and layers into a blissful mini-anthem. Matt Werth puts nu-digidub spin on Abstract High, turning the original into a confrontational and slightly absurdist slab of dancefloor confrontation. Afrikan Sciences deconstructs Mahbunzi Nahgo Pihndi Goes To The Market using his characteristic broken breakbeat approach to create a piece of daft and extremely modern elect ronic funk. Finally, Thomas Bullock modi-cuddles Haya into an prolonged ambient reverie to bridge and layer between dance floor pulsations.

Release:2014 / EU – Original
Genre:Electronic / Dance
Different Fountains is the Brussels-based project of Bernardo Risquez and Michael Langeder. For a few years now, they have been at the center of what Brusssels has to offer in modern electronic music. Their sound hybridizes an impeccable knack for melody and atmosphere with an ever inquisitive mind-set that gives them an enviable and unique perspective in which influences float by naturally, touching base at will and evaporating exquisitely. 'Shrimp That Sleeps' is their first full length LP after having released a 7inch and a 12inch on their own Different Fountains Editions label. Its nine tracks (ten on the free bonus CD) touch upon subtle house music, post-rock, ambient and atmospheric pop. Through rhythmic diversity and a loop-like treatment of vocals (sampled or not), 'Shrimp That Sleeps' is an incredibly engaging, absorbing and beautiful record that works as one undeniable whole. There's diversity in moods, some tracks are danceable, some are contemplat ive and have an experimental feel to them. The Different Fountains universe is inviting yet not afraid to upset some conventions. This album is a highly convincing distillation of what makes music modern today and, in the process, adds to it through subtraction of what is not essential. 'Shrimp That Sleeps' is just that though, essential that is! LP contains free CD with bonus track & remix by Sagat!

"Lars Stowe is mostly known for his work as Anstam, releasing his very own brand of avantgarde bassmusic and IDM-flavored intense electronic music on his own Anstam label and on Modeselektor's 50Weapons imprint. His new Anno Stamm moniker sees him take on house and techno with the same eclectic and open-minded stance. The first Anno Stamm release on All City Records, earlier this year, was welcomed as a refreshing, ultra-modern yet rootsy take on techno. On this new release for meakusma, Stowe once again injects his tracks with fervour and eclecticism, breaking open their mould and giving them a sense of direction shaped into a relentless groove that slowly but surely opens up time and again. Here are four tracks that pay homage to Berlin's techno roots. Just as much well-timed as 'out of time', these four tracks are underground slabs of raw but sophisticated, daftly funky techno power!"
