Genre:Electronic / Dance
Dream Control is the collaboration of a legend of the Krautrock Kosmiche scene and a pioneer of the German electronic scene. Zeus B. Held, renowned producer (Gina X Performance and works under his own moniker) and Steve Schroyder (former member of Tangerine Dream during their formative period) team up to deliver their debut album "Zeitgeber" which celebrates their very own sound and rhythm in a cosmic journey through audio and time. The tracks are a blend of structured compositions and improvisations accented by the throat singing of Kolja Simon und Felix Monnich aka AlienVoices. The album plays like a Technicolor adventure through space with explorations of cosmic disco, dreamlike passages, vocoder lullabies, and space odysseys. Zeus B. Held began his musical career in 1972 in French progressive art-rock band Eruption before joining successful German prog rock group Birth Control, performing and writing with them 1973 - 1978. He was one of the first musicians to use the Sennheiser Vocoder VSM 201 in his live sets. Zeus' production work with cult project Gina X Performance transformed him into an electronic specialist producer settling down in London for over 20 years. In his London studio he worked with artists including John Foxx, Dead or Alive, Men Without Hats, Transvision Vamp and Gary Numan, did a series of international soundtracks and further productions with Nina Hagen and Udo Lindenberg. After numerous trips around the globe he composed and produced a collection of his own albums (which Medical released a hand-picked selection in 2015). Steve Schroyder started to develop his musical vision with an electronic organ and his own films. He founded the group Turning Free giving a string of improvised concerts in Berlin clubs before meeting Edgar Froese in 1970 to mutually further develop the vision of 'cosmic music' resulting in recording the Tangerine Dream albums Alpha Centauri and Zeit. In 1972 he left TD and joined Ash Ra Temple. Further creative collaborations and projects include Scarecrew, Augenstern, Star Sounds Orchestra, various trance productions, Anne Clark, Alien Voices and Star Sound Kontinuum. The tracks have been expertly mastered for vinyl by Zeus B. Held. Limited Edition.

Release:1982 / US – Reissue
Genre:Pop
Medical Records collaborates with their good friends Anna Logue across the pond in Germany to present the long out of print Neu Deutsche Welle cult classic album Weltweit by Monopol. Released in 1982, Weltweit was the sole output of the band. It has appropriately become quite rare and difficult to find with the resulting high prices to obtain an original copy. Inspired by the greats such as Kraftwerk, YMO and Klaus Schulze, the three members crafted an exquisite collection of pop songs played on a very impressive collection of analog synthesizers, self-builds and drum machines that were considered cutting edge at the time. The band would have recorded a second album but split up before that was possible. Members of the band continued to be involved in the music industry at least peripherally but didn’t participate in further collaborations or bands. Also interestingly, Monopol was basically a studio-only project and actually never played live (despite some TV appearances). The album has been remastered by Martin Bowes at the Cage, UK. Contains a special bonus insert with lyrics and photos. Definitely a must-have for fans of NDW such as Grauzone, Reingold and the like. Presented on high quality 180gram classic black vinyl. Limited edition.

Stretcher - USA Stretched Version
LP | 2016 | US | Original (Medical)
29,99 €*
Release:2016 / US – Original
Genre:Pop
Medical Records presents it’s 60th release with the much needed reissue of Australia’s Severed Heads and their 1985 release - Stretcher. The Severed Heads story continues with the expanded and Stretched 2LP reissue. After personnel changes in 1985 (Garry Bradbury and Paul Deering left the band), Sev was now down to a 2 piece (Tom Ellard and Stephen Jones). Stretcher was originally released to be a compilation to introduce the band to an American audience, but it was ultimately sold in three versions due to other countries desiring their own version (an EP in Canada and England and an LP in Australia). The name was taken from the sign on the emergency stretcher at the front of every Sydney ferry during that era. This version is based on the Volition release (Australian version) but with all the tracks from the other versions for a full collection of 17 tracks over 2 LPs. A bit more “accessible” than the previous City Slab Horror with a number of dance floor stompers filling out the collection such as the 12” versions of Halo and Petrol. The collection mostly consists of new tracks written for the multiple releases for each country release but also contains a few older tracks remixed and even a demo version of Harold and Cindy which would be later fleshed out on The Big Bigot. The Heads toured the LP across Australia in 1985 resulting in a lot of “exciting adventures with audiences who wanted to kill us” – Tom Ellard. Two other interesting facts in regard to this collection is that it was the first time Sev used MIDI and a DX7 and every track has some radio signal mixed in there somewhere, always by accident. The original version(s) are all long out of print and becoming rare on the collector’s market. Presented in a beautiful gatefold 2LP on high quality classic black 160gm vinyl with original artwork as well as new gatefold layout by Tom Ellard with extensive liner notes detailing the back story and creation of each individual track. Get lost in it.

Medical Records presents the eleventh release in our Transfusions 12" singles series. Guilt, the collaborative project of New York City based artists, Oliver Chapoy and Nathaniel Young, is the result of 2 recording sessions during the spring of 2017. Their self-titled debut perfectly illustrates their shared taste for cold and dissonant synth programing across 3 driving dance-floor ready cuts all rounded off by an unhinged remix from The Bunker New York's L?t.te. The material focuses on blurring the lines between texture and melody and exploring the tonal qualities that result. For fans of labels such as Perc Trax, Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, Rodz-Konez, and Sonic Groove.

The 3 friends spent a lot of time in cutting-edge London clubs which inspired and influenced their music. A remix they worked on - Seefeel’s “Plainsong” became the blueprint the Autocreation sound, as well as feeding back into Seefeel’s sound on their own subsequent material. Autocreation were heavily influcenced by contemporary dub techno such as Basic Channel, early Sähkö Recordings such as ‘Ø' (Mika Vanio) as well as more pure techno such as Kirk Degiorgio and Jeff Mills. They recorded the album in late 1993, sandwiched between the recording of Van Hoen’s Locust album 'Weathered Well' and his collaboration with Seefeel’s Darren Seymour 'Aurobindo:Involution'. The album notably features heavy use of modular synthesizers (Aries 300, Digisound 80 and others), quite unique for a techno record of the time. The album was released on The Orb’s label Inter–Modo on CD only - directly following The Orb's collaboration with Robert Fripp (FFWD). Artwork was designed by The Designers Republic - responsible for the vast majority of Warp Records’ catalog and various releases by The Orb. The album is a dark, brooding ambient techno masterpiece. Similar in vein to Locust’s Weathered Well but more techno/IDM genre compliant that made it at times dance floor compatible. Specially remastered by Mark Van Hoen. Presented on limited edition high quality double 160-gram classic black vinyl. Hailing from the underground Los Angeles scene in the mid 80s arose a couple of musicians that created some of the most off-kilter, complex and yet exquisitely crucial art rock music that no one has ever heard. Featuring the key duo of Brad Laner (Savage Republic and much later Medicine, Electric Company, etc) and David Chrisman (3 Day Stubble), Steaming Coils was a project that also involved multiple other like minds from the L.A.F.M.S. Zeus is a well-known and acclaimed German musician and producer also made famous for producing Gina X Performance (also reissued by Medical Records). Zeus first began his musical career in the mid 1970’s with the German prog rock group “Birth Control”. Subsequently, he recorded three solo albums: “Zeus’ Amusement (1978), “Europium” (1980) and “Attack Time” (1981). He performed a number of interesting live shows supporting the albums all over Europe using a number instruments such as Fender Rhodes, Hohner Clavinet, Hammond Organ, Poly and Minimoog, ARP sequencers and most importantly, a Sennheiser Vocoder VSM 201 among other various instruments. His musical influences ranged from Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson to Kraftwerk and Steve Reich. Zeus also was involved in a very diverse roster of collaborations with such important artists as Guru Guru, members of Can as well as French space rock groups (“Les Rockets” and “Visitors”). The tracks that make up this compilation were selected from the aforementioned solo records. Ranging from straight out cosmic disco to propulsive proggy funk to the unclassifiable, this collection is a perfect representation of his solo work. Standout tracks include the cosmic burner “Held It”, the total vocoder/space jam “Musik, Music, Musique” and the amazing interpretation of Beatle’s “Drive My Car” complete with vocal by Gina Kikoine herself (Gina X). This collection will appeal to fans of the synth/vocoder work and unmistakable razor sharp production of Gina X Performance as well as fans of left-field synth heavy prog and disco (a more rock based Moroder if you will). Medical Records is celebrating it’s 5 year anniversary as well as 50th release! Medical Records was founded sometime in 2007/2008 but released it’s first double header of reissues in May 2010 with the (at the time) little known Deutsche Wertarbeit (MR-001) and the first album by famed Italo/synthpop guru Alexander Robotnick (MR-002). Since the beginning, Medical has pledged to bring back long out of print and lost new wave, synth, and disco LPs from the 70s and 80s. With an emphasis on high quality heavy vinyl (with a dizzying array of colored wax), these essential records have been made available again at a reasonable price for collectors and new fans to cherish once again. Over time, we expanded our palette to include new artists with a similar aesthetic to our vision as well as crucial 90s reissues in the shoegaze and other unclassifiable genres. With collaborations with Crispy Nuggets, Light In The Attic, and Portland’s 2010 Records, the back catalog of releases have spanned much ground. For this 50th release (MR-050), we have chosen to release our first retrospective with a twist. This double LP features a hand-picked selection of tracks intended to highlight our past reissues on the first 3 sides. Featuring such standouts as Lou Champagne System, Tony Carey, Gay Cat Park, and many more, it is a very nice representative collection. The 4th side of the double LP is a unique collection of our new (contemporary) artists performing specially selected cover versions of tracks featured on our past reissues. Examples include the sultry “We R” performed by Roladex (originally by Chrisma on “Hibernation”) and “Click” performed by Kline Coma Xero (originally by Disco Volante). This collection will surely be a treat for the fans who have been following our evolution over time and will especially prove to be a staple in anyone’s collection who would like some of our reissued hits on one concise compilation. All reissue tracks and new tracks have received additional remastering and mastering (the new tracks) by Martin Bowes at the Cage Studios, UK. This collection will appeal to aforementioned lovers/collectors of rare new wave, private press synth, cosmic/italo disco, vinyl djs, and many more! This double LP is housed in a specially designed gatefold heavy sleeve featuring the Medical logo in a “color blindness test” on the front with the gatefold filled with thumbnails of all 50 past releases. Presented on high-quality 160gram colored vinyl.

Release:2015 / US – Original
Genre:Rock / Indie
Medical Records presents a very special release and selection of works from Austin, Texas’ undiscovered and never before released electronic/ambient artist Kitty from the early 1990s. This band should have had a proper release in the 90s, so for a lot of people, this is a long overdue accomplishment. Formed in 1994 by guitarists Dain Luscombe and Brandon Loe, the band eventually became a trio with the inclusion of drummer Clint Thorman. Over a handful of four-track cassettes, CDR’s, and one unreleased EP, Kitty developed a sound unique even in the burgeoning psychedelic and electronic music scene that occurred along the I-35 corridor from Austin, Texas north to Denton as well as a rabid cult following. From their earliest performances as a three-piece, it was apparent that Kitty’s music put them in a peerage of electronic and experimental acts coming out of the UK like Seefeel and Insides rather than another Texan 13th Floor Elevators style psych band. Not that Kitty was without distortion or psychedelia. Track 1, “Harrison” has both elements and is culled from the band’s unreleased EP. It erupts with a momentous throb of noise that grinds through the build up and at its instrumental chorus, lifts to soar. The track ends with an accelerating rave-up that’s less go-go and more electronic auto accident. The delicate and often-flirtatious delivery of vocalist Dain Luscombe is introduced on “Eva,” also from 1996’s unreleased EP. However influenced by the pop sensitivities of Morrisey and then Smiths, Kitty’s music represented a progression, where the opening sentiment of the lyric hangs for one pregnant moment before a tiny glacier of sounds crush the melody out by its duration. “Aquarena” showcases a fair bit of tape bleed, sounding like the flip side of a friend’s mix tape until the Farfisa heavy, ambient drone takes overtakes it, buries it, twists and corrupts it, redefining the cassette tape saturation by the end of the song as a place to nest and contemplate the journey. “Rosannarquette” is Kitty at their funkiest and most energetic. Its metronomic and frantic throb was a familiar staple of their live shows and would often set the audience to dancing in venues where big-assed beers and cigarettes were more common pastimes. Late in the B-side we get a hint at a different band entirely with “Stella” and “Heartofmine.” These were possibly the last, distinctively rockist moments Kitty exhibited before hitting its stride and leaving the safety of traditional song structures for more experimental progressions. “Herzog” represents the band at its peak. Electronics burble, rhythms build mathematically, and sound moves in lines and waves. Then it all careens to a stop, once again leaving us hanging, before tossing us into a tape-splice break and a final return of enveloping electronics. Fans of acts such as the aforementioned Seefeel, Insides as well as other pioneering works by Flying Saucer Attack and A.R. Kane will adore this collection.

Genre:Pop
Medical Records returns to Germany for another piece of the Neue Deutsche Welle story with the reissue of the one and only album by Tse-Tse. Long out of print from it’s original 1983 pressing on Neuland Tonträger, it is due to be heard again. Tse-Tse were Claas Melhop and Clement Hülse. The duo met in Hamburg at a disco. While Claas was a medical student and trained flutist, Clem was a school drop out playing in a German punk band (Hermann’s Ogrie) which he joined when he was only 16. They hit it off and spent a lot of time listening to early Human League, Virgin Prunes and other oddball stuff from the time. In between hanging out at trendy bars at some point, Clem took a tiny toy Casio keyboard over to Claas’s place. They began improvising and playing through the home stereo. The drum machine sounds were simply whatever was built into the cheap gear, and everything was recorded on a cassette tape player. The songs came together quite easily with key changes and rhythms evolving quite instinctively. A friend of the band ran an independent record label and insisted they go into the studio. They recreated their homemade tunes and added some vocals, sax, bass, and effects. They did use a Korg MS20 and Roland Drumatix which they now had access to. Following the recording, Clem moved to Berlin and later London. He played in multiple grunge bands, but none of them had any use for the novelty toy synthesizers (which at this point were deteriorating rapidly). Back in Hamburg, Claas finished the album but shortly thereafter he suffered a serious car accident. Sadly the entire project suffered a premature end, and none of the pieces were ever performed live. Clement is still playing in bands today and works as a web designer. Claas eventually finished his medical degree and moved to Berlin. He continued to play music with Temple Fortune who released several albums. He is now an established psychiatrist. The album is a very interesting hybrid of minimal instrumentals interspersed with unique more melodic tracks with vocals. There seems to be an almost prog element (in the most stripped down of fashions) and a clear knack for experimentation. After the brief intro, the first track “Land In Sicht” highlights the duo’s mastery of novelty keyboards highlighted by restrained use of synth and bass guitar with moody vocals. Whereas the first side tends to feature more traditional style synth oriented tracks with vocals (though still quirky and atypical), the second side evolves into long convoluted instrumental pieces with samples and an array of synths and drum machines in a more heady fashion. Highly recommended for fans of the Neue Deutsche Welle genre and especially those fans of Die Gesunden, instrumental tracks of Der Plan, and even the synth stylings of Soft Cell. Remastered by Martin Bowes at the Cage Studios, UK. Presented on high-quality 180gram heavyweight green transparent vinyl. Limited Edition.
