Fueled by today's lack of appreciation and the decline in the art of the lyricist, Hex One's latest album 'Words Worth a Thousand Pictures' aims to take a stand for those who are truly masters of their craft. Technical, yet with a clear and concise message and deeply personal at times, Hex One offers a glimpse into his life as an MC and the world he lives in as seen through the scope of his lens. Backed by hard headnodic beats, deep, soulful samples with east coast and jazz influences, and booming drums and bass lines, Hex masterfully shatters contemporary society's notion of Hip-hop being a lowbrow genre of music. Despite music itself being highly subjective in nature, he aims to remove some of this subjectivity and boldly proclaim that some art simply takes more skill than others and talent is most certainly measurable. The ironic disconnect, however, between this measure of talent and the measure of one's success poses to be one of his life's greatest woes. The album is thus presented with a subtle melancholic tone throughout, as he struggles to come to terms with this realization. The bigger irony perhaps being that he does so with the same intricate attention to detail and lyrical prowess that is undervalued and overlooked in Hip-hop's musical landscape today. His philosophy remains: if a picture is worth a thousand words, so too can a poets words be worth a thousand pictures.

Hex One of Epidemic & 5th Element - Hologramz
Hex One of Epidemic & 5th Element
Hologramz
LP | 2014 | US | Original (Mic Theory)
26,99 €*
Release:2014 / US – Original
Genre:Hip Hop
Limited edition of 500 copies on heavy color splattered vinyl!Another benchmark for Hip-Hop duo Epidemic's Hex One, Hologramz pairs the hungry MC with an old friend, Mic Theory affiliate, and equally voracious producer: 5th Element. With the two not having worked on any new material together since 5th and Epidemic's debut album Illin' Spree back in 2011, this project aims to recapture the essence that first brought them together 3 years ago. It features production that predates their debut album with some beats from as far back as '06-07, as well as some fresh new bangers from 2014. The album is very feature heavy with guest appearances on 8 of its 11 tracks including MC's such as Ruste Juxx, Planet Asia, Prince Po and of course Tek-nition as well as many others. The majority of the songs consist of the signature sound this MC/producer team in known for: lyrical murder, however many of them also have concept based themes and a good chunk of the album deals with real life issues such as greedy backstabbing friends and the struggle to make it through rough times. Tracks such as "Fire" featuring Tek-nition and Planet Asia for example, have the three MC's referencing different forms of fire as they tear the beat to shreds. Others like "Speeding" featuring Prince Po and Awon, use cars and the road as a metaphor for some of the hardships many of us go through in life. "Deep Cover '14" is a tribute and remake of Big Pun's "Twinz" track, with Hex recreating the same rhyme schemes using all different words, while "Rare Form" featuring Reks, MindsOne, Ty-One and Teknition, offers a track full of no-nonsense straightforward spitting. Hologramz has a run time of a little bit over 40 minutes, so it's short enough to keep your attention throughout, yet long enough to be a substantial listen.

The Soulution
CD | 2014 | US | Original (Mic Theory)
8,99 €* 9,99 € -10%
Release:2014 / US – Original
Genre:Hip Hop
What originally started as a guest feature for Tantu's debut release "Language of Beats," spawned into a project of its own titled "The Soulution." A short but sweet display of Tantu's diverse pallet of sounds and Epidemic's ability to subtly adapt to a producer's style. This project brings a refreshingly modern sound while keeping relative familiarity with the golden era-esque vibe that Epidemic has been known to bring. It features a soulful sound scape with melodies ranging from both uplifting to nostalgic all packed into about 25 minutes. Entirely produced by Tantu, with 5 songs, one instrumental and 2 of the west coast's finest lyricists (The EP features Fashawn and Johaz of Dag Savage), it is something like quick a shot of dope - sure to hold fans over until the next full length release.
