As one-third of Yellow Magic Orchestra and an Academy Award-winning composer for his work on the soundtrack for The Last Emperor, synth pop innovator Ryuichi Sakamoto is among the most groundbreaking artists to have emerged since the late 70s. A musician’s musician, Ryuichi Sakamoto has created intriguing musical unions with artists such as David Sylvian, Iggy Pop, Tony Williams, Bootsy Collins, Jacques Morelenbaum and many others. Originally released in 1998, BTTB (an acronym for “Back To The Basics”) was a major commercial hit for Ryuichi Sakamoto. The album is comprised entirely of original solo piano pieces, both delicate and frantic, with deep impressionist-inspired roots. Currently a rare and hard-to-find album outside of Japan, BTTB is being reissued in celebration of its 20th anniversary. BTTB – 20th Anniversary Edition includes all the tracks featured in the original release of the album, including the major hit “Energy Flow”, remastered for the 21st Century.

Set in the year 2019 in Neo-Tokyo, the world is still recovering from the ravages of World War III. One night, teen delinquent Kaneda has his biker gang hurtle through the busy city. Kaneda’s friend, Tetsuo, is seriously injured during an accident and is taken to an army hospital. There the military notice Tetsuo’s potential psychic power, so they transfer Tetsuo to a secret government laboratory to awakening his latent abilities. When Kaneda gets involved in an antigovernment guerrilla movement, he encounters Kei, a member of the revolutionaries, and learns that the goal of the fighters is to infiltrate a secret laboratory – the very one where Tetuso is being held. The experiments to awaken Tetsuo’s powers are a terrifying success as he begins to wield psychic energy he cannot control – reminiscent of the emergence of the legendary esper boy "Akira”, which triggered World War III. The stage set, a fierce battle begins between Kaneda, Kei, the army and Tetsuo with the destiny of Earth at stake.

The symphonic music to AKIRA was composed by Dr. Shoji Yamashiro, head of the beloved Japanese musical collective Geinoh Yamashirogumi, and performed by the group. Rerecorded and remastered using the most advanced audio techniques available, this release of the unforgettable score of AKIRA is peerless in quality and audio fidelity.

Directed by David Mackenzie, Hell or High Water is a heist film starring Ben Foster, Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges. The film is set in West Texas, in an area formerly known as Comancheria, and tells the story of two brothers who plan a bank robbery to save their family farm. The film was extremely well-received during its Premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Critics praised and applauded the memorable performances of its main protagonists and the composers’ moody and minimalist score. Nick Cave of the Bad Seeds and his musical partner Warren Ellis deliver a ravishing score perfectly fitting the dry and arid landscape in which the characters strive to survive. The soundtrack album also includes Blood, Sweat, and Murder (Scott H. Biram), Dollar Bill Blues (Townes Van Zandt), Outlaw State Of Mind (Chris Stapleton) and other country infused titles.

New music from the HBO Series. Euphoria — which paved the way for Labrinth’s opportunity to score the show. His soundtrack, due out in album form this Friday, hums with soft electricity, perfectly complementing the journey of the main character, Rue, a teenager caught in limbo between the euphoria of a drug high and the harsh consequences of addiction. “When you look back to your teenage days,” he says, “it feels semi-magical but semi-crazy and semi-psychotic. I wanted to make sure the music felt like those things.”

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is the 2004 cult classic roleplaying game from Troika Games. Based on the White Wolf tabletop roleplaying game Vampire: The Masquerade, Bloodlines follows a character who is killed and subsequently revived as a fledgling vampire. The game depicts the fledgling's journey through early 21st century Los Angeles as they navigate the grimy underworld of vampire politics in the City of Angels. In the ensuing years since Bloodlines released, it has been embraced for its world-class writing, narrative design and production, and is considered one of the greatest roleplaying games of all time. A sequel is scheduled for release by Paradox Interactive in early 2020. The score to Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines was composed by Rik Schaffer (Elder Scrolls Online). A masterpiece of gaming composition, Schaffer's sinister score perfectly invokes the atmosphere of a darkly imagined early 2000s Los Angeles where paranormal danger lurks down every alley and behind every door. 15 years after the game's original debut, Milan Records is honored to be releasing the score to Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines for the first time, featuring audio completely remastered by Schaffer specifically for this release. The music to Bloodlines has never sounded better.

The Last Witch Hunter is the fantasy action film from director Breck Eisner (Sahara, The Crazies). Starring Vin Diesel in the titular role, The Last Witch hunter follows the cursed life a valiant warrior and his centuries-long struggle against an all-powerful Queen Witch. When she reappears in present day New York, the immortal hunter is forced into an unlikely alliance to stop the evil Queen’s machinations of world destruction.

Steve Jablonsky’s compelling score highlights the gothic savagery of the hunter’s quest to save the world. A frequent collaborator of Michael Bay (Transformers series, Pain & Gain, The Island) and Peter Berg (Battleship, Lone Survivor), Jablonsky started his career as an intern working for the legendary composer Hans Zimmer. His credits have grown to include the television show Desperate Housewives and the Gears of War video game series.

The Last Witch Hunter has now received the vinyl treatment with a limited 500 unit pressing on 180 gram black vinyl. This release is packaged with original jacket artwork designed by Midnight Marauder, as well as a download card for a digital version of the album.

Woodshock is an American drama directed by newcomers Kate and Laura Mulleavy. The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Joe Cole and Pilou Asbaek, and follows Kirsten in the role of Theresa, a woman languishing in sorrow following a profound personal loss. Emotional and unstable, Theresa retreats to the reality-altering effects of a powerful cannabinoid drug as dangerous choices cause her world to unravel around her. The film was released by A24 on September 22nd, 2017.

The score to Woodshock was written and composed by South African composer Peter Raeburn (Sexy Beast, Under the Skin). Raeburn’s haunting compositions perfectly capture Theresa’s fractured state with his use of minimalistic strings and delicate whistling atop gloomy undertones that threaten to break through to the surface at any moment. Tragic and poignant, the music will stay with the listener long after the film has concluded.

Woodshock is getting the vinyl treatment. The entirety of Peter Raeburn’s score is available on a 180 gram black vinyl disc housed in a gorgeous dress jacket. A 12”x12” credit insert featuring the eerie image of Theresa floating through a forest is also included. This version is limited to 300 units - don't miss out!

Out of The Dark Room collects some 24 of Max Richter’s “most beautiful compositions for film” c. 2008-2015, issued in the wake of his string of major solo and score releases. So great is Richter’s wingspan now that you’ve maybe heard some of them without realising they’re from the Richter scale - a definite measure by which to hold up modern classical film soundtracks.

Equally adept at majestic string orchestration as he is with bellicose electronic tension and romantic themes - as proved in the first three tracks inside, and as you would hope from a blockbuster OST composer - Richter is patently fluent in the language of film music, evidenced in his work with everyone from Tilda Swinton and Robert Wyatt to his work on films such as Waltz With Bashir, Sarah’s Key, Wadjda, Disconnect, The Congress, and Testament of Youth - all included inside.

The composer himself comments on his role: “I think music is a kind of amniotic fluid and the film lives in it. Sometimes music can be at the forefront, playing a supportive role without even realising it, but if you take it away you would miss out on the basics.” And there you have it, a smart portrait of the man’s mature and widely scoped latter-day oeuvre, 2008-2015.

Async is Ryuichi Sakamoto’s first solo album in 8 years.
Taking inspiration from everyday objects, sculpture, and nature,
Sakamoto composed and arranged the sounds/music that he most
wanted to listen to. Paying close attention to the essence of each
track and carefully balancing the sounds with a less-is-more
perspective, what remains are singular expressions of Sakamoto’s
current mindset, and one of his most personal albums.
The album was primarily recorded and conceived in NYC, with
some elements drawn from field or location recordings and
museums around the world. During the production process
Sakamoto came upon the concept of creating a soundtrack for an
Andrei Tarkovsky film that does not exist. Needless to add,
Tarkovsky is one of his most favorite film directors.
The pallet includes conventional instrumentation such as piano and
orchestra, but also a deep selection of unique acoustic and electric
sounds both programmed and organic. The album plays with ideas
of a-synchronism, prime numbers, chaos, quantum physics and the
blurred lines of life and artificiality/noise and music.
