The Japanese brand Mizuno Brothers Ltd was established by Richachi Mizuno in 1906 and started retail activity for sports apparel twelve years later. In 1938, Mizuno founded the Select Scientific Laboratory to bring a scientific edge to sports. In 1981, Mizuno introduced the groundbreaking Runbird design at pro sports meetings, two years later these shoes went on sale. When iconic tennis player Ivan Lendl left adidas, he was signed by Mizuno in 1990 to win the Australian Open the same year. Powered by custom Wave technology, the Wave Rider was another Mizuno landmark release in 1997. In the late 90s, Mizuno designed a football boot specifically for the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
