Metavari, the moniker of American composer and electronic musician Nathaniel David Utesch introduces his new album: ’ABSURDA: Music Reimagined in the Short Films of David Lynch’. The album contains 12 tracks, each of which have been scored in unison to a collection of short works from filmmaker David Lynch. Spanning Lynch’s career, the films represent a breadth from student work (e.g., ‘Six Figures Getting Sick’ and ’The Alphabet’) to contemporary pieces like the title track, ‘Absurda’, and his now infamous animations: ‘Industrial Soundscape’ and ‘Dream #7’. ‘ABSURDA’ plays through as thoughtfully as the rest of Metavari’s synth-heavy catalog, but there’s an evolution here that explores a deeper level of experimentation. It is a chaotic collage of sound, rhythm, and melody; weaving through both harmonious passages and abrasive acousmatic sound. An almost “plunderphonic” execution of MIDI sequencing and percussion utilizing PCM synths and foley samples. It’s clear that Metavari has found himself on a new path as he carves his niche in electronic music. Metavari describes the process as a “scribbling on top” of Lynch’s films. “I’ve followed David Lynch’s career my entire adult life; cherished pages from a series of love letters that feel like they were written just for me. This project is the semblance of what I’ve scribbled, in my own language, on top of those letters as I write back to the man who has inspired me more than he’ll ever know.” The album comes packaged in a deluxe reverse-board printed jacket with a custom die-cut center hole, also included is a digital download card and a special 4-panel insert (containing synth patch diagrams & instructions for dropping the needle in unison with the ten films. This LP (on CLEAR vinyl) is strictly limited to 1000 copies worldwide. Released exclusively for Record Store Day (UK & Europe) 2019, available in participating stores on April 13.

Soundtrack to the SF-horror classic ’The Blob’ (1988) released for the first time on vinyl. Soundtrack by Kraut/Electronic pioneer Michael Hoenig (Tangerine Dream). Limited black vinyl pressing (with obi strip). One Way Static Records proudly presents, for the FIRST TIME on vinyl: MICHAEL HOENIG’S 1988 soundtrack for THE BLOB.

The Blob is a 1988 American SF-Horror film written and directed by Chuck Russell (Dream Warriors, The Mask) & Frank Darabont (The Fly II, The Mist, Tales from the Crypt). The film stars ‘Shawnee Smith’ (Saw), ‘Kevin Dillon’ (Platoon, Entourage) and Jeffrey DeMunn (The Hitcher). Special effects in the film were handled by legendary makeup artist ‘Tony Gardner’, known for his work on Army Of Darkness, Darkman, The Return Of The Living Dead…and who helped create the signature helmets for Daft Punk.

A remake of the 1958 horror film of the same name, The Blob is all about an amorphous acidic amoeba-like organism that devours and dissolves anything in its path as it grows, where it begins to feed on the residents of the fictional town of Arborville, California. Much like the original film, the remake has gained a cult following after its theatrical release in 1988.

Soundtrack duties for the film were handled by German composer Michael Hoenig, who actually doesn’t need much of an introduction.

Hoenig was part of the burgeoning progressive Kraut & Kosmische rock scene in Berlin where he was a member of the band ‘Agitation Free’ in 1971. In 1975 Hoenig joined the electronic-pioneer band ‘Tangerine Dream’ and then went on to collaborate with other big names like Klaus Schulze’ & Manuel Göttsching (of Ash Ra Tempel). In 1977 he released his first solo album, the highly acclaimed Berlin School classic ‘Departure From The Northern Wasteland’.

Over the course of multiple decades, Emmy award nominee Michael Hoenig has composed a diverse and extensive catalog of material that includes the theme to ‘Dark Skies’, the soundtrack to the extremely popular ‘Baldur’s Gate’ PC game…and countless others. Horror scores composed by Hoenig include Class Of 1999 (1990) & The Gate (1987)…he also performed on the soundtrack for Galaxy Of Terror (1981).

Michael’s music for The Blob is classic top shelf synth-driven electronica that fits the film like a glove. The voices, dark strings and feverish percussion create a rhythmic drive that embodies heroic desperation and a massive sense of relentless doom. Hoenig fashioned a creepy, compelling and atmospheric synth-based score, unleashing textured waves of sonic terror and suspense.

Born in 1936 in New York City, David Hess began his career recording million-dollar chart toppers for the likes of Elvis Presley, Sal Mineo & Andy Williams in the 50ies & 60ies. His biggest hit is probably ‘Speedy Gonzales’ which ended up selling more than eight million copies worldwide. After a career as a record company executive the 1970s, Hess took on the role of actor, writer, director and producer in the movie industry. Writing and working with directors as Rainer Werner Fassbinder and directing the 1980 slasher “To All A Good Night” were only a few of his many accomplishments.

Most of us will remember him as Krug Stillo, the leader of a gang in Wes Craven’s classic 1972 cult shocker “The Last House On The Left” as well as portraying the villains in Ruggero Deodato’s “House on the Edge of the Park” (1980) and Wes Craven’s “Swamp Thing” (1982). Other movie roles include ’21 Hours At Munich’, ‘Hitch-Hike’, ‘Body Count’ and ‘Zodiac Killer’. David Hess also appeared regularly on the TV screen with appearances in shows such as ‘Knight Rider’, ‘The A-Team’, ‘The Fall Guy’ & ‘Royal Pains’.

Throughout his film career Hess’ love for music never waned. He continued to produce music, including several albums (“Caught Up In The Moment” and “Live & Unplugged in Hollywood, 2002.”). Some of his music can also be heard on more recent soundtracks, such as ‘Cabin Fever’ (2002) and ‘Manhunt’ (2008). On October 7, 2004 just two years after his role in the 2009 horror epic “Smash Cut” starring Sasha Grey, David Hess sadly passed away at the age of 75. He will forever be in our hearts.

David Hess composed the soundtrack for ‘Last House on the Left’ & his work here contains some truly beautiful songs, the discovery of which, for some, may be in stark contrast to the brutal displays of sadism and violence for which he was known to purvey onscreen. The fact that Hess could perform as both the poet, and the monster, is a testament to his skill as an artist. The soundtrack to Last House On The Left is a brilliantly unique and diverse mixture of farcical comedy, poignant, reflective folk music and instrumental experimentalism. Hess constructed a wonderful counterbalancing entity, which serves only to accentuate the impact of the movie.

One Way Static Records now proudly presents the complete 1972 soundtrack to Wes Craven’s ‘THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT’ composed by David Alexander Hess. Available as a deluxe limited Black vinyl edition complete with insert containing rare pictures and exclusive liner notes. Also available as a limited color vinyl variant (300 copies solid BROWN vinyl).

Also available as a limited color vinyl variant (300 copies white vinyl) Klaus Schulze is a German electronic music pioneer, composer and musician that needs very little introduction. In the late sixties & early seventies he was a member of several iconic bands such as ‘Tangerine Dream’, ‘The Cosmic Jokers’ & ‘Ash Ra Tempel’ before launching a solo career consisting of more than 60 albums released across five decades. Collaborations were numerous and highlights include working with Steve Winwood, Brian Eno & Alphaville… just to name a few.

Klaus Schulze’s proto moog-synthesizer work is regarded as a milestone in electronic music & during the decades he released landmark albums in genres catalogued as ‘Ambient’, ‘Electronic’, ‘New Age’, ‘Berlin School’, ‘Experimental’, ‘Kosmische Musik’ & ‘Krautrock’. Mr. Schulze had a more organic sound than most electronic artists of the time, often he would throw in decidedly non-electronic sounds such as acoustic guitar and a male operatic voice. Schulze is also known for developing a Minimoog technique that sounds uncannily like an electric guitar, which is quite impressive in concert.

On occasions he would also compose film scores such as Body Love (1977), Barracuda (1978), Next of Kin (1982), & Angst (1983). His best known song ‘Freeze’ has been used in films like Manhunter (1986) and more recently in Sofia Coppola’s ‘The Bling Ring’ from 2013.

In 2009, producer Klaus D. Mueller and Schulze began releasing La Vie Electronique (“The Electronic Life”), a series of sets that collected rare sought-after early works & unreleased tracks put in chronological sequence. These sets contain some of the best music Klaus ever created and are early 70’s masterworks that will appeal to both fans and collectors.

Now available for the first time on vinyl, One Way Static Records presents the SECOND volume in our new archival series ‘La Vie Electronique’. This volume (1.1) focuses on the years 1970-1972 and is spread over two glorious LP’s containing +78 minutes of Klaus Shulze rarities. This deluxe vinyl set also comes with an insert containing extensive liner notes.

Available as a limited classic black vinyl retail edition (700 copies) with obi strip & as an exclusive color vinyl variant (300 copies white vinyl).

Their sophomore LP, Brotherhood of the Ram, released in 2013 was nominated for the 2015 JUNO Metal/Hard Album of the Year as well as the Polaris Music Prize. Genre:Rock / Indie
Born as Florian Fricke’s brainchild, Popol Vuh needs little introduction, the band stayed active between the late 1960s & late 1990s (until Florian’s passing in 2001). Regarded as pioneers in avant-garde German electronic music, their early works practically laid down the foundations for ‘Kosmische Muzik’ (Space Music) with the then new sounds of the Moog synthesizer joined with ethnic percussions.

Later the group evolved to include all kinds of instruments (both electric and acoustic alike) shrouding their music in a spiritual & introspective mystical aura. Popol Vuh influenced many other European bands with their uniquely soft but elaborate instrumentation, which took inspiration from the music of Tibet, Africa and pre-Columbian America. With music sometimes described as "ethereal", they created soundscapes through psychedelic walls of sound, and are regarded as precursors of contemporary ‘world music’, as well as of ‘new age’ and ‘ambient’. Popol Vuh regularly contributed soundtracks to the films of Werner Herzog that include classics like ‘Aguirre’, ‘Nosferatu’, ‘Heart Of Glass’ & ‘Cobra Verde’.

‘For You And Me’ was their 17th album & now 28 years it holds up more than ever. While decidedly new age and world music in sound (with musical elements from the Himalayas, Ireland, Greece and Africa), this album has style and grace, and the updated sonic quality makes it a pleasure to listen to. The light pieces combined with their timeless dramatic signature sound, the majestic piano chords, the profound lyrics and the crescendos of emotions set this album apart from the banal new age mainstream. The authentic Popul Vuh spirituality permeates on every track here, prepare for goose bumps and a divine moment, in For You And Me, they created a more modern day classic, easily their best album of the 90's.

Out of print since 1991 and never released on vinyl outside of Europe, now back available as a gorgeously packaged deluxe vinyl edition. Strictly limited with spot-varnished details on the jacket.
