Born into a musical family in Compton, Ca., Loren Oden grew up in the church. This served as an incredible training ground for Oden, where he not only studied gospel, but secular greats like Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke. Being that those icons were bred in the church, Loren discovered sanctity in using his voice as a spiritual guide for love: a way to express his vulnerability, passion and struggles with handling reciprocal affection. These Instrumentals reflect all those influences and come together to show Oden at his best.

Aura recorded 'When The Feeling's Right' and 'Stop' at Sea West Studios in a matter of 8 hours. Vince Mendoza recalls, 'Gaylord encouraged us to record, he engineered the tracks. This was still early in Gaylord's career when he working at Rick Keefer's studio.'

Vince and his brother Del then took the tapes to the local radio station and gave them to Frank B. Shaner, who played the tape on-air — immediately people started calling in to ask about the song.

All the ingredients were in place to make a smash hit record — take the island's most popular R&B band, put them into Hawaii's top studio with a reputable engineer, and craft a ballad (and disco-boogie groove) for all the lovers and dancers out there. Then, play the tapes over the airwaves for all of Hawaii to hear.

Even Tom Moffatt heard it. The legendary promoter and music executive was convinced that 'When The Feeling's Right' and 'Stop' should be released on a 45, so he pursued the band to press both tracks through his Bluewater imprint.

'When The Feeling's Right' quickly became a massive hit with locals — especially at high school proms. Ask an uncle or aunty today what local high school ballad they remember the most, and it's this: a timeless ballad with soul and style.

Village Live Records is proud to present “The Algorithm Smiles Upon You”, the debut EP by Aver & Move 78.

The Berlin-based band consists of Doron Segal on keyboards, Nir Sabag on drums, Hal Strewe on bass and Aver on sampler and production.

The eight tracks of their EP are crafted from hours of studio improvisations, that have then been chopped-up, rearranged, and layered with additional strings, flute and horns. This many-layered approach has helped create the band’s signature sound: a balance between free flowing jazz and automated, programmed hip-hop.

Upon returning to Paris two years later, he created Moshi, a dark, eccentric effort fusing avantjazz sensibilities with African rhythms, ambient sound effects and melodies rootedin American blues traditions. Cut withFrench and African players including guitarist Pierre Chaze, pianist Michel Graillier and percussionist Didier Leon , this is music with few precedents or followers, spanning from extraterrestrial dissonance to earthbound, streetlegal funk. Wilen pays little heed to conventional structure, assembling tracks like "Afrika Freak Out" and "Zombizar" from spare parts of inde terminate origins. (Jason Ankeny, Amg)

Revelatory reissue of Barney Wilen’s ambitious jazz-fusion journey, Moshi (1972), presenting the legendary French jazzman and Miles Davis-sideman’s wildly ambitious effort fusing recordings of Pygmy tribes with African rhythms and stellar avantjazz leanings, sounding little like anything before or since its release. (boomkat)

Truly one of the most out -there jazz records we’ve stocked for a long time! (bleep)

Originally issued by the seminal imprint Saravah in 1972, and among the most uncategorizable and sought after artefacts of the French avant-garde, Barney Wilen’s Moshi is nothing short of a masterpiece - long holding a coveted spot in the hearts of adventurous listeners and record collectors alike. A wild unkept cultural collage. A series of sonic experiments. A spiritual, psychedelic pilgrimage into the unknown - darting from one continent to the next, each of its tangents building toward a more optimist world view through ordered sound. Its scope remains as difficult to understand today as it was when it was released. Now brought back into the light by Souffle Continu, this is a moment to be celebrated far and wide. (Soundohm)

Deluxe reissue with additional artwork & remastered audio. 20-page booklet including rare pictures, sheet music & original liner notes. Bonus DVD with exclusive artwork of Caroline de Bendern’s movie « à l’intention de Mlle Issoufou à Bilma » documenting this incredible african journey.

Absolutely flawless Boogie sounds on NYC's SAM Records from 1982, Greg Henderson's "Dreamin" was licensed from the tiny Rain Records label and no doubt gained some invaluable exposure to the early 80's post Disco club scene that was in full swing at that time. Breezy, soulful, sweet and most importantly of all - funky, "Dreamin" is an absolute pleasure to the ears.
Greg Henderson only released a handful of records during his career (including the incredible Henderson & Whitfield - "Dancing to the beat") and was also involved in the production of some other classic Boogie rarities (Masterforce - "Don't Fight The Feeling" , Rome Jeffries - "Good Love"). "Dreamin" has always been a sought after record, often fetching collectors prices of £100 - £200 a time. A sublime cut for all lovers of Disco, Boogie, Funk and Modern Soul. Now made available again, legitimately licensed, remastered and reissued in conjunction with SAM Records New York City.

Another winner from J Rocc. This single includes a classic take on Atcq classic “Luck of Lucien”. A track that has never been available as an instrumental. The B-Side titled “Sweat Break” is one for the dance floors. The original track was played in various sets by Legendary DJ Ron Hardy. J Rocc found out the original and made an edit similar to the one that was heard at the Warehouse. Both tracks have been tried and tested on the dance floor and are guaranteed to be a winner.

Jerusafunk's 2nd full-length album and first vinyl LP, Jfunk! Recorded at the Droom Studio in the historic Rancho Linda Vista in Oracle AZ, is an amalgamation of their recent endeavors to compose and perform music inspired by countries that have an analogous sound to their Sonoran home. With a few new band members that are some of the best young musicians in Phoenix, they were able to lay down this record in 7 days on a Tascam 388, capturing a funky psyche vibe that only Oracle, AZ could accommodate.

True school heads already know the deal! One of the all-time classic, original break beats, “Shangri La” is a must for any crate. The mysterious La Pregunta came out with this double A-side single in 1978 and it immediately was in rotation for all dance floors — from disco heads to b-boy circles. “Paradise is very nice!” is the familiar catch-phrase that follows the instantly recognizable, uptempo drum break, and paradise is where DJs will be with doubles of this very cut-able small-hole 7-inch. Following the layout of an alternate pressing of the original 12-inch, the Fraternity Music Group’s from-the-masters reissue has the lesser-known “saxophone mix” as the flip side, but for the first time, a tape speed alteration from the original has been fixed, leaving both sides at the same tempo as they were first recorded. Perfect replica labels and a high-quality 33 RPM pressing round out the package of this essential ultimate break. Real DJs Have Doubles!

The EP follows on from Memory Streams, their fifth studio album and second for Gondwana Records which was released in October 2019. Sonically it explores a similar world to the full-length album, but where Mystery Streams focused on a punchier live sound, WWT explores modern classical and ambient textures.

We Welcome Tomorrow features, the duo Fran and Flora (Francesca Ter-Berg cello & Flora Curzon) on strings, but also builds looped saxophones, drums and synths parts into a rich tapestry of sound. Odd time signatures underpin a surprisingly emotional build that resolves in richly layered strings.

Mirage explores a different side of the band's writing. Moving away from their usual instrumentation and enlisting the beautiful string playing of 'Fran and flora' . It draws influence from the emotional, spiritual minimalism of composers such as Arvo Part and John Adams.

Winding Snake again takes influence from American minimalism but places it against strong, modern drum rhythms and organs. And its energy and instrumentation propel the music into trademark Portico Quartet territory.

For our 7th release we are delighted to be reissuing a single that has brought us a lot of joy in recent times. We first came to hear Delores Fuller’s beautiful single One More Chance Lord in the same way we have heard a lot of new music over the last year and a half – through a friend’s lockdown recommendation. Ever since, the single has been a staple in our collection and permanently on our turntable.
