This is a live album of songs from “A Crow Looked At Me” and “Now Only”, eleven songs recorded in a huge church on spare acoustic guitar and singing.

The jackets are the usual high-standard heavy gatefold beautiful ones, with copper foil stamping and multiple paper textures, great printing. This is an object worth owning, a concept which becomes more absurd in the context of the words of these songs.

The old smell of air coming faintly through the spring crack in the snow above a hibernating bear’s winter den, the smell of long self-absorption, burrowing into one’s own chest, re-breathing the exhales of one’s own breath, the smell of squinting in the dark ruminating in dreams beneath layering years, the snow still falling.

In the dark smoldering slowly burning through all the old clothes, sifting through the ash, wiping old shedded fur from the eyes nosing out into the light.

In that brief moment when the airs of the past and present meet, at the mouth of the open bed, egoic solidity burns away in the spring wind, self becomes fuel, there is only now and the past is a dream burning off. Fragments arranged along the trail, crumbs consumed, dust blown, no route back.

Eight new songs written in early 2019 about devotion and release. Julie graciously came back to the northwest and recorded this kind-of-sequel to the Lost Wisdom from 11 years ago. This one goes deeper. We recorded with the doors wide open and between breaths you can hear birds, jackhammering in the distance, and on some songs night air.

Dust is an art book of new photographs by Phil Elverum. There are no words. There is no narrative. These are clear images of a world in color, moments of depth and eeriness found on solitary walks and international drives. The images were made at home (Anacortes, Wash.) and all over the world (in the quiet moments found during Mount Eerie tours), but the where is not the point. The point is the breath of the unknown that a strange new image can breathe from a page if one sits still and looks at it.

They are arranged in pairs, the page spreads building a crucial interplay that creates a third, invisible, internal world as one looks, prompting a wordless conversation between the two images and the viewer. Pairs of rich and mysterious photographs, beautifully printed and bound in black stamped coarse linen. Inside the back cover is a secondary booklet containing 48 photographs.
