The cuts on this 7” were mixed by Manasseh in 1997, with strong support coming from the late great Jah Shaka.

King General’s follow-up to the classic `Money Run Tings’ (1996) arrives in the shape of `Broke Again’, originally emerging in 2009 on CD only. So now, on vinyl for the first time: 6 vocals from the General with 6 dubs from The Bush Chemists Including the singles `Them Wrong’ and the title track `Broke Again’ Two tracks that couldn’t fit on this vinyl release: `Got to be Conscious’ and `Long Way to Go’ will appear separately on a forthcoming 12” (prtl12014).

A welcome reissue for this herbal-influenced Zion Train album, originally released on Universal Egg in 1995.

Vocals courtesy of the late great Jamaican singer Bim Sherman, whose unique haunting voice made him a firm favourite throughout the 70s/80s/90s with the roots reggae crowd as well as On-U Sounds taking Bim to other worldy realms. Originally released on Youth and Alex Patterson’s WAU! Mr Modo label in 1989 and produced by Sound Iration (Nick Manasseh and Scruff). Originally recorded as `It Must Be a Dream’ in the 70s, on this cut, Bim revisits the track in `89 with a meditative part-digital rhythm from Sound Iration backed with a phased-out dub version on the flipside.

UK roots reggae classic from veteran vocalist Danny Red, originally released on the Dredbeat label in 1994.

Originally released on the Abba Jahnoi label in 1993, `Jah is Version’ is one of the holy grail’s of the UK roots reggae and dub scene. A raw and minimalist production style from Danny Red and crew with a stripped down dub version. Other versions and re-recordings of this track have emerged, but this is the original and best.

A brutal bass-rumbler from The Rootsman in the shape of `Fittest of the Fittest’ which originally appeared on the CD only album `Roots Bloody Rootsman’ in 2001, then issued by Partial (prtl10007) in 2015, which swiftly sold out. This 7” release is backed with a previously unreleased dub version.

A UK Dub outing from 1996 from The Rootsman, originally appearing on his debut album on Third Eye Music - `In Dub We Trust’. A mid-paced steppers piece with more than enough weight to cause distress at any sound system gathering. This is the first time `African Style’ has been unleashed as a single.

Heavyweight dubplate pressure from veteran producer Jah Warrior with a crucial bass and drum-led work-out from1996, followed by a dubplate mix. Flip over for a later remix from 2001. All tracks make their first appearance on vinyl.

A welcome repress of an essential dub set from Centry, originally appearing on the Conscious Sounds label in 1993.

Restless Marshaits hailing from Geneva are based around the core of Jil and Stuff. They released a sizeable amount of new roots classics throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Light Shining’ is produced and mixed by the mighty Steve Vibronics from Leicester’s Scoops label. The heavyweight rhythm and dub mix is balanced out by Eve’s accessible and catchy vocal style. Eva, who originally hails from Limerick, Ireland, is creating a bit of a stir in the roots / dub scene and more is expected from her on Partial in 2019.

In 1980 Gerald Moore - of G.T. Moore and the Reggae Guitars and Heron fame - was in Kingston, Jamaica working with Lee Perry on the `Return of Pipecock Jackxon’ LP. Gerald went into Harry J’s studio with James Lascelles (Global Village Trucking Company, The Breakfast Band) and Bud Beadle (Ginger Baker & Salt) alongside members of Zap Pow: Don Grant, Cornell Marshall and Dwight Pinkney. The tapes sat around gathering dust for the best part of 40 years and are now finally unearthed. Mixed directly from the masters by Dougie Wardrop are `Jerusalem’, `Working For The Dollar’ and `Constant Spring’. Also `Utopia’ gets a fresh mix.

Landing on Partial, from the man Jah Scoop is `Insurrection’ - a moody and militant organ-tinged melodic instrumental piece, which refreshingly features nothing but “real instruments”. So, think late 1970’s style with perhaps an unintentional nod towards Jackie Mittoo’s `Ayatolla’
Despite the brooding pace and nature of `Insurrection’, it drops heavy on sound system, especially the echo-laden dub version on the b-side.
So, Jah Scoop? Who dat? Jah Scoop is in fact Guy McAffer aka Geezer, the legendary techno producer and artist Geezer of¬ RAW and Stay Up Forever fame. He’s also the keyboard player for festival-favourites Back to the Planet and guitarist with punk outfit Dogshite. That’s who.
