Around a year ago, Jerome Derradji received a message from a well known record dealer out of North Carolina. He found a couple of test presses at a storage auction near Durham. In fact the two tests Daniel found were for a Lee Moore release scheduled for release on NYC’s LM Records in 1981. The 12” featured a vocal and instrumental version of the same song - Bodywork - a mean boogie down joint featuring Lee Moore’s trademark heavy bass, gritty soulful vocals and mad synths…
So here it is pressed for the first time, a lost 12” from the mighty king of Memphis Boogie Funk: Lee Moore!

Captain Sky occupies a unique place in the history of Chicago dance music. His cosmic funk was celebrated from coast to coast, inspiring hip-hop producers and house DJs alike. His most influential song, the quirky “Super Sporm,” was sampled by such heavy-hitters as Wu-Tang Clan, Salt-N-Pepa, Boogie Down Productions, Public Enemy, 2Pac, De La Soul, and Mary J. Blige--the list goes on and on. In 1977, at just 21 years old, Daryl L. Cameron aka Captain Sky recorded his first album “The Adventures of Captain Sky” with his bandmates after his father gave him $5000.00 to finance a studio session. Daryl then went to Eddie Thomas (of Curtom Records and Dogs Of War fame) who arranged to get the album signed and released on AVI Records in 1978. It is now reissued for the first time by Jerome Derradji’s Past Due Records. Remastered and featuring an insert with part 1 of 2 of the story of Captain Sky and some never seen before pictures, this release is ultra limited as always. “The Adventures of Captain Sky” was a huge success for Captain Sky and immediately established him as a popular Afro Funk artist right next to Detroit’s George Clinton and Bootsy Collins.

Captain Sky’s first album, “The Adventures of Captain Sky,” is a cult classic that inspired countless hip-hop artists from the East Coast to the West, but his second album, “Pop Goes The Captain,” resulted in his highest-charting single, the deep and cosmic disco favorite “Moonchild.” By the time this record was released, Daryl Cameron aka Captain Sky was also known for his superhero costumes, designed by Dexter Griffin in L.A., who also worked with Bootsy Collins and Rick James. Soon after the release of his first album, Daryl began recording “Pop Goes The Captain” in the summer of 1978 at P.S. Studio in Chicago with engineer Paul Serrano, who worked with Ramsey Lewis, Earth, Wind & Fire, Natalie Cole, and others. Parts were also recorded at Universal Studios in downtown Chicago with guitar player and engineer Danny Leake, who Cameron met through the studio. “Moonchild” stayed on the Billboard dance charts for 7 weeks in 1980, peaking at 76, and was even played on an episode of Dick Clark’s “American Bandstand.” “Pop Goes The Captain” is a cosmic funk masterpiece that only the Captain could have made. It is now reissued by Jerome Derradji’s Past Due Records. Remastered and featuring an insert with part 2 of 2 of the story of Daryl L. Back in the early Eighties, a young producer, keyboardist and songwriter from the Bronx, Richie Weeks, already known for his smash hit “Rock Your World” with Weeks & Co, rallies his favorite musicians and vocalists (including his own brother Sheldon Weeks) to create a new outfit - The Jammers - as a new project for the famed NYC disco label Salsoul Records.
The Jammers were composed of Sheldon Weeks, Debbi Blackwell Cook and Jocelyn Brown on vocals along with Richie Weeks and his musicians: bass guitarist Raymond Earl, keyboardist Dennis Richardson, and drummer Scotty Miller (from Instant Funk) and saxophonist Roy Nathanson, members of New York City Strings, salsa trombonist Barry Rogers and jazz trumpeter Earl Gardner.
Most of the recording sessions for this album were held at the legendary Sigma Sound Studios in NYC with Richie Weeks and Shep Pettibone at the mixing console.
Released in 1982 on Salsoul Records, the self titled Jammers LP was a smash hit in NYC and beyond, even reaching deep into the Bilboard and UK Charts.
The Jammers continued establishing Richie Weeks as one of the most important musician, singer songwriter and producer of the New York Dance and Disco Boogie scene. Richie Weeks blew up worldwide and even performed live at the Paradise Garage and Studio 54 to name a few….
This legendary album has been professionally remastered to Richie Weeks’ specs and also includes the two unreleased versions of “Just For You” - 12” Mix and Radio Mix - for the first time on vinyl.

In 1980, the 9th Creation began working on new music at a Modesto studio, South East of Stockton. The studio was suspiciously cheaper than all of its competitors. After recording weeks of material, the band discovered the reason. “We didn’t know that the guys that were running the studio were drug dealers,” A.D. Burrise recalls. “There was a big raid.” All the studio’s master tapes were confiscated by the DEA. J.D Burrise unsuccessfully sued the DEA to recover the tapes but to no avail. Luckily Mike Micenheimer saved cassette mix-downs of some of the group’s songs from those sessions. “A Step Ahead” is the the 9th Creation’s lost album. 8 unreleased songs of pure soul, funk, disco and boogie.

Arkansas native, Lee Moore moved to Memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in New York, L.A and everywhere in between. As a singer and songwriter Lee Moore spent the 1980s collaborating in Memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like Volt and Stax Records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. Lee Moore unfortunately never got close to reach his goals of fame and fortune. Lee's final project for the Score label is a bonafide underground Gospel burner. Originally released in 1989 it's a perfect look into his transition from the rougher edged Funk, Disco & Boogie of his earlier efforts and shows his smooth transition into a more celestial and blessed musical output. Again this one’s a real rarity and Past Due have secured this high quality, legit reissue for the heads.

For the past four decades, a growing cult of soul music collectors have sought two obscure LPs and a handful of extremely rare 45s released on the vanity record label LAD Productions, Inc. between the late seventies and the mid eighties by the mysterious South Side Chicago singer/song writer Larry Dixon.

Larry's raw songs capture the transition from R&B to boogie-down as disco was rapidly becoming extinct.

They also perfectly illustrate Larry’s ability to overcome his environment and discrimination, transcended by his determination to write and produce music. With the support of his faithful musicians, Larry's success was only hindered by lack of airplay and promotion, but his talent shines through.

This is the story of Larry Dixon, his label LAD Productions, Inc., and his friends and family throughout four decades of music in Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods.

Jerome Derradji is proud to reactivate Past Due Records - the boogie funk division of Still Music to release this fantastic archive – what many consider to be the Holy Grail - of Chicago Funk, Boogie and Soul.
