Norwegian producer +plattform presents four decadent techno cuts on Thomas Urv and Miss Mostly’s PLOINK imprint this August.Referring to the four to the floor kick pattern as “a canvas on which to paint”, Oslo-based producer Stian Balducci likes to operate across the boundaries of club-culture, improvisation and contemporary electronic music under various different pseudonyms. He describes his +plattform moniker as an outlet for creating club focused productions, and his techno artistry has led to a medley of releases on Australian imprint Gynoid Audio, with Norway’s PLOINK label next in line.‘Tailer’ initiates the package at high velocity with undulating kicks and sinister atmospherics that revolve around a melodic 7/4 pattern, meanwhile ‘Flor’ is more understated in nature with its pulsating low end and rattling synths. Crunchy sounds and a dystopian riff then contribute to a menacing tension in ‘Sour’, before concluding the release with a mesmerising voyage in the warped and twisted ‘Gates’.

From start to finish ‘Twelve’ is a twisted journey through esoteric techno and exemplary of +plattform’s distinct musical aesthetic. Tracks like ‘Kerala’, ‘Wrak’ and ‘Nylon’ exhibit deep atmospheres as tantalising synths work their magic. ‘Brok’,‘Reck’ and ‘Ombre’ are more driving by nature, featuring powerful percussion and sinister effects. Other tracks, such as ‘Dillan’, are mesmerising cacophonies of raw elements combined to devastating effect, whereas ‘Morne’ incorporates sweeping pads and syncopated drums for spellbinding results.

Next up on Thomas Urv and Miss Mostly’s Ploink imprint comes a full-length album from the Godfather of Norwegian techno Mental Overdrive. The 9-track long player begins in apt live-jam style with ‘Totem’ and its chugging acid bassline with metallic hi hats snaking through the track’s duration. ‘Descent’ then maintains the high tempo with ethereal pads and a shuffling drum workout. ‘It’s All Good’ then slows things down with a stuttering groove laced with toms and a resonating melody, then comes ‘Dissolve’ - another twisted house jam filled with syncopated bleeps and jittery flanging percussion. ‘In Flight’ once again ups the ante with deep driving kicks and rolling bass, saturated with white noise and accompanied by industrial stabs, leading into ‘After The Lights’ that combines eerie harmonies with warm 303 squelches. A distorted loop introduces ‘Gone Wrong’ before it’s percussive groove and low-pitched vocal samples take hold, before a rumbling sub and rattling effects progress even deeper into the cosmic voyage in ‘Swagger’. Reverberating drums and spectral synths then merge, forming a new and unique rhythmic entity to conclude the package in ‘Truce’.

For two decades now, Ploink has promoted techno nights around Norway, presenting local talent as well as some of the biggest acts from around the world. Last year we finally set up our label branch and with this we now count 9 releases. Ksmisk is norwegian pioneers Trulz & Robin’s otherworldly alias. We are proud to present their first release for Ploink. We asked them to describe the two tracks - this is what they sent us: Strikkemor - Grandmother is out of bed with here knitting kit. Sneering and swinging here stick around. She is angry. Ginnungagap - Before time, there was nothing. An endless void of Darkness. Until now.

‘Plenty Headroom’ EP is a twisted techno release from Kahuun on Scandinavian label PLOINK with remixes from anonymous Norwegian act Vakum and label boss Thomas Urv. PLOINK started life as a club in Bergen where it has hosted the biggest techno parties in the region. 2014 saw it expand into an imprint, supporting Norwegian artists with releases from the likes of Vakum, Nordenstam, Christian Tilt and label founder Thomas Urv. Bergen producer Kahuun has been DJing across Europe for well over two decades now and saw his first 12” on Paper Recordings in 1999 followed by a string of releases on the likes of Hi Fi Terapi, Bagpak Records and Sex Tags UFO. ‘Plenty Headroom’ incorporates stabbing, abrasive pads that tumble downwards over a muted, staccato bass and a 4/4 beat. ‘Enlargement’ then gets more frantic with a faster tempo and galloping bounce, overlayed with punchy warm synth sounds. Thomas Urv’s remix of ‘Plenty Headroom’ delivers the darkness one would expect from the PLOINK founder, underpinned by a crunchy, compressed sub bass line. Tying everything up Vakum’s rendition demonstrates a heady buzzing synth that builds a tension over a pounding four to the floor.
