In the late 1990s and early 2000s the Berlin based DRM crew have been one of the most famous trainwriting crews the capital had to offer. Their legendary status which lasts until today was established by the group’s ultimate mix of immense quantity and the highest quality pieces. Area, Ruzd79 (†), Rage, TOK and Freak are only a few names you might came across riding a train in Berlin or while checking out graff magazines or videos of this era.

In the past two decades the DRM members were forced to almost entirely shut down their output as a crew due to their family life, job liabilities or conflicts among each other. For Depicting Recent Memories they managed to team up again and recollected what brought them together in the first place: the passion to paint trains. Between 2016 and 2020 the crew made a revival on the Berlin subway and iconic names like Micro, Shus, Soul, Shok or Davis started to reappear alongside newer names like MAD or Azur.

Together with Edward Nightingale, best known for his atmospheric shots which portray international trainwriters at work, the DRM were back in the game. New advanced tools allowed the crew to partial realize giant multicolored burners while the photographer did not only observe their actions, but captured the unique atmosphere in the city’s railway catacombs.

The outcome is a 320-paged massive hardcover including intense shots capturing the tension of the veterans second spring, as well as the finished masterpieces, often caught in traffic. The very well balanced mix was completed with short texts by the crew members on their comeback. Depicting Recent Memories is the perfect merge of what the crew and the photographer are best at: inviting the viewer to authentically join some of the best writers Berlin’s trains did ever witness. The book’s love to detail and outstanding workmanship will catch your eye everytime you take it out of your shelf.

The Canadian photographer Kourtney Roy was born in Northern Ontario in 1981. She conjures an intimate universe pervaded by both wonder and mystery. Her photographer’s eye is drawn to places and settings whose lyrical qualities underscore the sublime banality of everyday life.

The birthplace of graffiti, New York City, has evolved into a global center for street art. Its public surfaces host a range of media from handmade stickers and wheatpastes to huge installations and murals. Artists from across the globe routinely travel to New York City to grace its walls as they refashion the city into one huge never-ending unofficial street art festival. The poetry of groundbreaking Greek artist Lena Platonos takes center stage in Piercing Red: Collected Poems and Lyrics 1984–2008. Best known for her radical electronic music compositions, her innovative work as a poet has been underacknowledged, in no small part due to writing and singing in her native Greek. This book was put together to rectify this lapse, to help encounter her song lyrics on their own as literary work. Collected here are all the poems Platonos put to music over four decades, appearing for the first time in English thanks to loving translations by Stathis Gourgouris. Careful attention was paid to Platonos’s phrasing so that the unique voicings and surrealist imagery would come forth intact. With their rapid-fire juxtapositions and dreamlike narrations, these poems are gestural and performative evocations of the artist’s vast inner world. They are performances of her soul in the realm of words. Since the late 1970s, Nigel Ayers (b. 1957, UK) has cut a bracing, subversive path through the contemporary underground, bridging DIY industrial enthusiasms with multimedia experimentation to form a singular body of work. Co-founder of the groups The Pump and Nocturnal Emissions (along with brother Daniel Ayers and then-partner Caroline Kaye), Ayers has been a contributor to and proponent of industrial music’s high-water marks, his Sterile Records imprint disseminating not only NE sides but also defining work from Lustmord, SPK, Maurizio Bianchi, and others between 1979 and 1986. In 1987, Ayers inaugurated the Earthly Delights label with the now-canonical Caroline K recording Now Wait For Last Year, and the imprint has since served as Ayers’s primary outlet for releasing new work, whether as Magnetizdat, Spanner Thru Ma Beatbox, or Nocturnal Emissions, a going concern to this day.
