Gatefold 2LP (180g vinyl, one LP black, one LP white) with special vinyl masteringand incl. printed inner sleeves and protection sleeve Deine Lakaien are a German cultural icon. With their 10th studio full-length, "Dual", classically-educated composer and pianist Ernst Horn and vocalist extraordinaire Alexander Veljanov present a conceptual double album, which connects both full-lengths by a double reference. Half of the double album consists of 10 new songs that Deine Lakaien have crafted with particular artists or songs in mind that have been important for the duo's musical evolution. These sources of inspiration are made clear on the second album of "Dual", which features 10 amazing cover tracks that range from Cat Stevens' classic 'Lady D’Arbanville' via Jacques Brels melancholic 'La chanson des vieux amants' to Kate Bush's 'Suspended in Gaffa' and the surprising choice of the Linkin Park song 'My December'. Each of these renditions has been lovingly translated into the Germans' unmistakable soundscape. In this artistic juxtaposition of a cover version and related new song, the Patti Smith/Bruce Springsteen collaboration 'Because the Night' corresponds with the Horn/Veljanov composition 'Because of Because'. Deine Lakaien lay bare some of the sources of their inspiration and artists that have touched, inspired, thrilled, and shaped them in a most respectful way. Deine Lakaien are once again breaking new ground, which they have achieved multiple times in their now 35-year history. Founded in 1985, the duo started as a purely electronic avant-garde dark wave project. Taking their name from a reference in the song 'Die genaue Zeit' by German experimentalists Einstürzende Neubauten, the band self-released "Deine Lakaien" in 1986, which spread by word of mouth and created an underground buzz. The debut set the duo clearly apart from electronic contemporaries such as Yazoo, Soft Cell, Eurythmics, and OMD by virtue of their singular dark sound. The albums "Dark Star" (1991) and "Forest Enter Exit" (1993) considerably widened the Germans' audience and gained the attention of influential critics. Simultaneous with their growing success, Deine Lakaien broadened their musical scope by playing a fully acoustic tour in 1992, an ambitious exercise that would influence later albums such as "Kasmodiah" (1999). Their impressive and highly diverse catalogue has been summarised in the anniversary releases “xxx. The 30 Years Retrospective" (2016) and "The 30 Years Retrospective: Live" (2018)

Alcest took an audible step towards their black metal roots with their sophomore full-length “Écailles de Lune” ("Moon Scales") without losing any of the trademarks that had evolved on their debut album “Souvenirs d’un Autre Monde”. The French post-black metal pioneers created a sound of lucent, dreamlike quality and otherworldly beauty that has equally defined them and been refined by them ever since. In musical terms, Alcest amalgamate calm, semi-acoustic passages, repetitive, hypnotic patterns, and captivating melodies with outbursts of harsh riffing and aggressive drumming. The same contrasting and complementing effect is used by band founder and guitarist Neige for his vocals. Clean singing that is morphing back and forth between a warm and darker tone and a gentle higher pitch occasionally gets swept aside by despairing shrieks and furious black voices – only to flowingly return like an unstoppable tide. "For this album, I was especially inspired by the sea, the energy, and the exaltation that you can feel when you sit in front of the ocean at night," Neige explained about “Écailles de Lune”. "The sea appears terribly fascinating, full of secrets, beautiful and frightening at the same time." Alcest‘s music has received many labels over the years including post-black metal, post-rock, shoegaze, and blackgaze to name some of the more commonly found terms. Yet whatever the band originally from Avignon and now based with Neige in Paris is called, their sound has always remained unique. Another typical element of their albums is a concept or theme that runs through the songs. On “Écailles de Lune” it is a tale of transformation. “This album’s story is not a metaphor for death as it might appear to be”, says Neige. “To me, it is about a man who decides to literally leave one world for another. It can rather be seen as a passage to another reality or another state of existence.” For those, who want to follow in those footsteps and journey to another place, Alcest offer a key. Just close your eyes and listen to “Écailles de Lune” and you will be taken far away to a world of musical wonders and haunting beauty – but beware, even roses of the otherworld have thorns.

Founded in 2015 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, with a name derived from the Dutch word for "wandering," dark rockers Dool embarked on an ongoing spiritual and musical journey that took them far within a short amount of time on the strength of just one album. However, hearing the sophomore "Summerland," you can't help but think its successful predecessor (ranked #13 among the "Best 100 Albums Of The New Millennium" by German magazine Rock Hard) was just a warm-up.

What do Aphex Twin, Tom Waits and Crowhurst have in common besides vast and challenging discographies? They've all at one point collaborated with Gavin Bryars, one of the world's most important and celebrated living composers. Recorded in an 18th century hotel in the French Pyrenees, the new album by Crowhurst recomposes and gives new life to elements of released and unreleased works by Bryars. The end result are pieces that feel as close to the symphonic drone of Monoliths-era Sunn 0))) as they do to Bryars' collaborations with Brian Eno on Discreet Music or his masterwork 'The Sinking Of The Titanic'. Both artists have consistently pushed the boundaries of their respective idioms, and together the result is a shimmering orchestra of desolation akin to Trent Reznor's finest ambient work. String sections ring out and resonate against metal and church bells sing and whimper. As elegant as it is bleak, "Incoherent American Narrative" speaks to both the past and present artistic statements of both artists and solidifies Crowhurst as the Nine Inch Nails of the post internet generation.
