Red vinyl retail exclusive /// Lucio Fulci directed this dystopian sci-fi epic in 1984. In 2072 the world is ruled by TV networks. Two of these networks are locked in a bitter rating battle and in finding more ways to outdo each other one of them decides to host a Roman centurion style battle to the death featuring convicted murderers fighting each other on motorcycles (wait is this a documentary?) As you would expect from Fulci it’s outrageous, silly, super entertaining and full of over the top violence. The score was composed by Maestro Riz Ortolani and here he delivers one of his most bombastic, striking (and fun) scores. Loaded with killer synth lines, chunky riffs and pounding synthetic drums.

Italian directors GUALTIERO JACOPETTI and FRANCO PROSPERI gave birth to a whole new subgenre of “non-fiction” exploitation movies with their 1962 hit MONDO CANE. After repeated accusations of forgery, unethical behaviors and war crimes, they decided to make a movie about the atrocities of American slavery as an apology of sorts. It was 1971 and the movie was FAREWELL UNCLE TOM (ADDIO ZIO TOM) The famous critic Roger Ebert called the result “the most disgusting, contemptuous insult to decency ever to masquerade as a documentary” Naked flesh, voyeurism and violence is constantly used but gorgeous photography and a memorable score from Academy Award nominee RIZ ORTOLANI add a sickening slickness to it all: rock- beat tunes mixed with classic big band themes, waltz and funny marches and the beautiful OH MY LOVE, with the vocals from Katyna Ranieri, used, among many others by Winding Refn in his cult movie DRIVE (2011).

Digitmovies is releasing the complete OST by Riz Ortolani for the Spaghetti Western “A Reason to Live, A Reason to Die.” Riz Ortolani composed one of his best scores during his long career with this one, an epic symphonic score where a heroic main theme played by horns and orchestra follows the group of courageous men to their deaths. At the time this OST was recorded, no LP or EP singles were released, but one melody was included as track # 1 on the B side of a rare Japanese album (Cinedisc 5010), on the OST from the movie “The Amazones” (aka “Le guerriere dal seno nudo “). First time ever issued on LP and reissued on CD for the first time in years. Limited edition of 300 copies on CD or 180 gram LP+CD.
